You should put it right on the front page of your website if you decide to close your doors due to Covid. Caught in Uber over here to have dinner. I get out and walk up to the door and it's locked. There's a notice on the door that says due to Covid we will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday. That should be on your website which is where I looked before I came here. Now I'm having to stand out here in the cold and wait for my next to her to take me to another restaurant. Just a little notice on your website would've spared you this review. Great Espresso Martini! Tried the Seafood Risotto and not what I expected. Nice servings of lobster, mussels, clams and shrimp. More of a dry paella versus risotto. Okay but I would try something else next time. Heard the scallops, salmon and swordfish are the way to go. read more

I took my daughter for lunch at Max's Tavern today... It was a big mistake!! we both ordered filet and loaded baked potato,after we ordered our waiter came back and told us they didn't recieve an order due in so we were unable to have the loaded baked potato. No big deal we ordered the fries instead. soon after that they brought just our fries to the table, we thought the steak must be coming out next. we ate a few fries while waiting for our steak. The fries were mediocre at best. No big deal we were having a nice time together. Almost 20 mins later our steak comes out. So strange to bring the fies 20 mins before the steak. We didnt make a fuss the waiter said he brought extra fries on the steak plate in case the first ones had gotten cold. we ordered the steak med well. Yes I do believe it sometimes is difficult to know what that is in less ofcourse you are at a real "steak house". hey stuff happens!! we both cut into steaks and one is nearly brown all the way through and the other has a dark red center. We literally could not cut the steak with the steak knife, it was sooo tuff, now keep in mind it was a "Filet ". I kidded with the waiter and asked for a sharper knife. He laughed and said he was going to talk to his Manager and do something for us. He soon returned to the table and offered a dessert. We declined the dessert and he quickly brought our check. Almost $60 per steak and a grand total of $165.00 including a tip. The waiter I believe seemed embarrased and just wanted us out of there. He was totally left to handle the situation and the so called Manager never came out to apologise to us. This was an important lunch for my daughter and I as we hadnt spent time alone in months due to a very tragic illness. We did not matter in the least to this place! I never have written a restaurant review before but, I work VERY hard for my money as most people do and completely felt ROBBED! Once again, I gave them a chance. Ordered cooked-through pan seared scallops. Not only did they not cook them normally(in the pan) they seared them and then baked them--not what I ordered. So, I sent them back. The manager returned with raw in the middle scallops. NOT OK, particularly when their own menu warns about eating raw or undercooked seafood and meat. As a compensation, the manager brought me four of the toughest shrimp I've tried in a long while. So tough in fact they were inedible. So, I settled for a small bowl of celeriac purée... Very, very disappointed. The shrimp were so tough that I couldn't tear them in half with two hands as I showed the manager how tough they were. The General Manager/Partner-John Thomas was unable to make his chefs prepare my order cooked through, although before we were seated I described to him other visits when the chef refused to cook my fish thoroughly. The Restaurant Manager, Alyssa Blumenthal, recognized that because of an immunodeficiency from my cancer fight I needed my scallops fully cooked. When Alyssa brought my second plate of scallops to my table, I asked her to wait as I cut open one scallop - it was raw inside. (This was the second plate of scallops) I explained once again that I had ordered them cooked through. She offered to have the chef make a fully cooked plate for me, but by that time, my guest's dinner was already cold, and he was waiting to start eating until his hostess was served. I was lucky enough to catch this during happy hour, which gave me a chance to try a few of their items for a relatively low price. Cheeseburger Sliders - the pickles seemed to be homemade and really complimented the house sauce they put on the burger. It was perfectly sweet and moist, which can often be over cooked with a bite so small. The $5 order came with two mini burgers, which seemed about right for the quantity and quality. Pulled Pork Sliders - The pulled pork on the sliders was quite a bit smaller than the amount of meat on the cheeseburger sliders, but overall the bbq sauce was a good mix of tangy and sweet. Mac N Cheese Side - Very creamy cheese and the bread crumbs were perfectly topped off. I thought the cheese blend though was a bit dull compared to other places. It definitely could have used some stronger flavors to give it a true signature at Max's. Buffalo Wings - They were grilled and not deep fried, which was fine. The buffalo sauce was definitely not your average store bought sauce, which was a pleasant surprise overall. My only complaint was no happy hour drink specials! They had a good selection of bottled beers to choose from however. All the small menu items do add up though! This is a solid restaurant on every front. If you are looking for fresh and well prepared food, this is a great selection. The food is on par with a Ruth Chris and better. Trust me, it will not disappoint diners. The service is always just as awesome as the food and the staff remembers regulars. Max's sits right next to the new Basketball Hall of Fame. They have an exquisite menu, and their wait staff is very friendly. We were able to order freely, and they never pressured us. We had a half dozen oysters for an appetizer, then followed that with an entree that was delectable. I had the special: a blackened steak sandwich with spinach, onions, and mushrooms. I ate that meal about 10 hours ago, and I am still full. The dessert was fantastic too. It was a chocolate chip cookie tart with ice cream and strawberry sauce. I would visit Max's again for sure. Outstanding food. Sandwiches and salads were huge. Jerk chicken sandwich was tasty but piece of chicken was very small. Apple cider donuts, chocolate cake, sorbet, cheesecake were all delicious. Bananas Foster was a little disappointing. We were at Max Tavern to celebrate our daughter's ordination to deaconate in the Episcopal Church. When it came time to pay the bill, our waiter informed me that our check had been taken care of by a friend of the restaurant by the name John. Service was great (Healey). Loved the fried cauliflower appetizer. Unfortunately my daughter's med rare pork chop came out well done. It could have gracefully ended there with disappointment and polite apologies etc. but the staff saw the first cut and whisked the plate away. I had finished my scallops by the time the new one came back, but Alyssa, anticipating this, had brought out a complimentary bowl of DELICIOUS and beautiful soup just in time so that by the time the new (perfectly cooked) pork chop came out, we didn't really miss a beat in the rhythm of our dinner. That would have been enough, but even at the end of the meal she brought a perfect creme brûlée WITH caramelized orange slices and a perfect tauny port to wash it down. It's easy to say a place is great on their best night, but a good recovery speaks so much more. We'll be back! read more

Absolutely delicious. Service was extremely polite and professional. Food came out at a perfect time. I went with my 12 yr old son who wanted a roast beef sandwich from subway instead after visiting the basketball hall of fame. I convinced him to look at the menu of this tavern instead and he was convinced since there are a lot of meat options. The only thing is we felt a little underdressed and out of place since everyone in there seemed to be older business men and women doing business things in business suits. My son and I were in sweats haha. We ordered ribs for starters and then we both had a version of grilled chicken for entrees. The ribs were the most tender I've ever had in my life and the chicken...I don't know how they managed to grill it so perfectly. My son ate the whole basket of cheddar biscuits and he didn't even use the honey butter with sea salt which was a shame. My son is lactose intolerant and I am gluten sensitive and we both left without a stomach ache and although the food was rich we were not weighed down and he went back to playing basketball. We sat there with empty drinks for 20 minutes. He did not bring out the food nor clean the dirty dishes, and still we had to wait and ask for everything. Ruined the 400.00 meal for us. I went to this establishment and I had Christa as a server. It was me, my boyfriend and some friends and she gave us the best experience. Everything was exquisite! Bread right away. She gave us steak knives for our dinner. Made sure our appetizers were amazing. She put in A+ effort. I came here with high expectations from a foodie friend review. It was a late evening and surprisingly the restaurant was packed. The menu lists delicious items and the prices are high ($20-30entree). The nightly special of cod sounded amazing so I ordered it. We also tried the crab cake. Blah. Blah. Blah. The fish had no flavor... I mean, literally no flavor. Which is pretty hard to do. Even lemon is a foreign substance to the chef apparently. There was an aioli drizzle... supposed to be lemon caper but could have been Elmer's glue based on taste. The crab cake also had no flavor, no salt, no seasoning... perhaps the crab was old because it didn't even have a flavor. We got a bottle of wine and at least that was decent. It's rare I have nothing nice to say about a restaurant but this one leaves me speechless. read more

Strip Streak with 'loaded' baked potato for a side looked like something served at a diner. Steak was chalky and potato was cold. Double cut pork chop with BBQ Hoisin sauce was just ok. Chop was moist, but BBQ sauce just tasted like Hoisin and nothing else. Coconut sticky rice served underneath didn't leave a trace of coconut flavor. I strolled in life with a friend around 9:45pm to have something light to eat and a few drinks. We head straight to the bar where 2 seats were unoccupied at the edge of the bar and one seat in the very corner of the bar leading toward the other 3 seats against the wall. I asked the 4 women who were huddled in the corner if anyone was sitting in these seats and they ignored me, so I sat down (leaving one seat in between us). It seemed everyone at Max's was still dressed as if they just stepped out of the office, still in work clothes. Long peacoats, dress shirts, and fake neck pieces around women's necks; meanwhile my friend and I in jeans and a hoodie, maybe that's why we were getting the side eye, we weren't dressed to the standards of the bourgeois there. As we order our drinks my friend nudges me as one of the women in the group in the corner suddenly grabs the purse that was hanging on the chair nearest to us and puts it on the other side of them. I'm thinking to myself... well that purse was hanging there before we arrived, with a full bar area full of people...how hilarious all of a sudden they decide to move it. They were annoying and intoxicated I could hear it in their tone as they were conversing. One claimed she may be having an allergic reaction and her husband (who happened to be a police officer) came quickly. This group was utterly annoying, riding their high horse. If anything it was them who annoyed us throughout the night. But I've visited this venue before and this is the type of clientele they cater to primarily; people with their noses in the air. I ordered a small serving of steak from their late night menu to go with my beers. The steak was cooked perfectly (somewhat salty), but the quality of the meat was mediocre. The beer was beer, Stella, nothing special about it. The bartender was overall attentive, she did step away a few times for longer than expected periods, so we did wait for second drinks. I am unsure if she was catering to the tables in the bar area as well, perhaps that is why. Either way, as a bar manager myself, a bartender should always be behind the bar. She was nice, nothing out of the ordinary. In previous visits, the food is a bit pricey off of the regular menu. The portions small, but the flavor divine. It is neat, clean, well kept, and overall a decent place to dine. We were appalled when we were met with everything but friendliness as we sat down to eat.
