Brought my car for an inspection. Manager told me the car couldn't pass inspection unless I bought 4 new tires and new windshield wipers. None of these things needed changing, and when I refused, he told the "guys" to pass my inspection. Had a major attitude with me at check out. I felt like they tried to scam me into a pricey bill. This particular Mavis was super helpful with my inspection and replacement of both tires - truthfully, any time I've needed work done on my car I have come here and its been solid service whether from Larry or Bruno. This particular 5 star goes to Bruno who was extremely helpful and professional when helping me get new tires that were covered through my warranty with my car manufacturer. He was attentive to every detail and question the claims company had while also juggling other customers and their needs. His communication throughout the process, explanation of the processes and willingness to be a middle man between myself and the claims department were greatly appreciated. Do not use this Mavis Discount Tire! They have hidden labor fees online when you make a reservation and I was charged an additional fee of $149.95 in labor costs when online it stated word for word: "dismounting of old tire, mounting of old tire is included and Proper lug nut torquing to manufacturer spec". Staff was great, just I highly advise nobody to ever use Mavis Discount tire again due to being over charged for a hidden fee of $149.95 and I spoke to corporate about it and they stand behind their hidden price also. Tires / Brakes I am generally not a fan of this chain of tire places- I've had some bad experiences in the past at other locations so as luck would have it, I picked up a rather large nail on New Year's day and had to fill the tire every couple hours to keep it from going flat. The Monday after New Year's day was also a holiday and having called around, Mavis was the only place open for business. I topped off the tire and shot over there. I explained the problem and although there were a few people ahead of me the guy said they could look at it. Fully expecting to be told that they had to replace the tire (which means at least 2 tires) I was somewhat shocked when they told me it was all done and out the door for $16. This is the THIRD time we had an issue with this location honoring our appointment. I cannot be the only one! Todays issue was the same as the other two. I called yesterday at 2:30 from my cell on purpose so if I had an issue when I got there, I could show the man my call log. I spoke to Bruno, we had an entire conversation because he was asking my mileage and I could not remember the specifics. He was able to estimate how much oil I would need...we had an entire discussion. I made my appointment for 11:00 for the next day. I show up today at 10:55, and Bruno asks for my name. He tells me I don't have an appointment and maybe I put it under another name. I gave my husbands name. Nope, no appointment. Gave him my phone number, again no appointment. I have been having a monumental issue with my tire with the Mavis store: 222 West Main Street Smithtown N.Y. 11787 I have been a Mavis customer for years and also started bringing my sons cars there. I went to the Smithtown location because my passenger rear tire had low tire pressure. The manager there put air in it and said it was due to fluctuation in outside temperature. He told me there was no nail in tire and it was fine and I was all good to go. He did not look at the tire and therefore, did not put it on a lift to actually see for sure though I asked him to check it out. Instead, he put air in tire outside of the garage only and dismissed my concern assuring me it was nothing. After all that, a few days later I wound up with a flat tire on Sunday 9/27/20 as I was driving onto a parkway and luckily was able to pull over quickly. I had to then Wait for Roadside assistance to come and put a donut on. I Went back to Mavis the next day which was Monday, 9/28/20 and The same manager told me there's a Nail in tire and I need a new tire. He was charging me for it though I said I'm not paying for a new tire due to his negligence n my huge inconveniences. He told me different stories. That the nail I have in tire most ikely wasnt there when he put air in it and that it happened within seconds n caused tire to go flat right away. When I challenged that n said that's impossible and especially after seeing nail of how Embedded it was in tire and where treads were worn around it. I knew it definitely was in there the entire time from when I initially brought my car in and as a result, tire eventually gave way n blew as I was driving, it's a dishonest to even say that as the same manager never even looked at my tire aa he dismissed my concerns. Since that didnt work to his advantage, He then tried to tell me he put air in another tire: the rear driver side tire instead and plugged it on the rear driver side. I told him no not true and that my Jeep car dealer did that driver side rear tire. The only thing Mavis did was put air in my passenger rear tire; the one that ultimately went flat. I have spoken to the manager's regional manager and he is comping the tire as I am not paying for it, but he hasn't been following up with me. My safety and concerns were highly disregarded and still are. I have been riding with a donut going on over 7 days and still going with donut. I Been getting a huge runaround. I was promised a tire by Tuesday, 9/29/20 and was not informed that the tire didn't come in to Mavis until I called late afternoon on that Tuesday. After further run around from Mavis all week with no calls back to me, I was told on Friday, 10/2/20 that Tire was shipped United parcel service and still not arrived; That there's no tracking information and all they know is it shipped ups from tire rack. I was given a track number n I was told to track it. I was irate - that's his job to find out / I was at my own job n told him to track the tire. He then hung up on me. I spoke to the regional manager and let him know. My boyfriend had to get involved and he called the Mavis store requesting my tire be put on by noon Saturday 10/3/20. And that was completely disregarded. Then I received a call back from Mavis and he changed his attitude without apologizing. He told me he was gonna order another tire after I had to be the one to tell him and the regional manager to do that. No one at Mavis cared because Nobody called ups or did anything about it because I was being comped for tire which is deplorable. That's my life and safety on the line having no choice but to continually drive with a donut. It is all unacceptable. No one within Mavis of whom I spoke to be it the Smithtown store or corporate arenas cared or moved on my situation about a fast resolution or safety driving with a donut. And no one I spoke to apparently knows who the ceo is or their contact information-I had to locate the information. On my own. That is unacceptable. As a woman I know I was discriminated against, nobody cared, I was played games with because Mavis wasnt making money on me and that is repulsive because it's a life being disregarded -mine and now I take that personal and everyone involved to be accountable. I was hung up on, put on long holds, when I called back, phone just rang-no one answered phone, when I called from another number, it was answered. Years ago, it used to be that if you had a major problem with a company and called corporate office, the person you reached had a real sense of urgency and getting you to the highest up chain in command be it the owner, ceo or president. I noticed that one of my tires was low on air. I took it to Mavis and explained the problem to Larry, one of the managers there. He said he would have somebody look at it for me that same day. He showed me the nail in the tire and I had it replaced. It was a no hassle. Quick, easy and the same day. have used Mavis for several years. last 3 experiences not great. made appointment one week in advance for inspection/ oil change and first appt in am. always when Larry is there I somehow get bumped and he takes another customer before me and I was first customer at door when they open it. ok still went back next year. after an hour and a half states inspection machine down and did I want to reschedule / No oil change done in that hour and a half. My final trip the next year had appointment. some man walks in 20 min after me for same (oil change and inspection) an hour after my scheduled appointment I turn around and the person who came in after me is up on lift. I asked when my car will go in and was told by Larry that "as soon as these two inspections are out they both need work" I stated to him this is the third time this happened to me.. make appointment and somebody walks in after me and u take them? why do I bother making appointment? just bad business . I will say I have had brakes and tires done there and Bruno is always fair and doesn't bump ur appointment . I understand if they are behind.. but when I make appointment and somebody walks in 20-30 min after I'm sitting there waiting and their vehicle goes in next for same thing? I needed to get my old truck inspected because I waited until the last minute at the end of the month. Mavis is within walking distance to my house. I also saw on their website that they do inspections and I made an appointment online for a Friday morning on the website for an oil change and inspection (or so I thought). When I showed up on the Friday for my appointment, it appears as though my scheduled appointment went into some internet black hole, as the Smithtown location did not have it. Rather than send me on my way, the staff was helpful and offered to get the truck inspected if I could leave it, which was my intention anyway, as I was just going to walk home and give them all the time they needed. Within the hour, I got a call from the staff indicating that the truck would pass inspection, but that it needed a few things, in addition to flushing the power steering system, new rear shocks, etc. I knew these things needed to be done, as I bough the truck used the year prior. The power steering fluid was black and the rear shocks were totally rusted. I was afraid that the cost to do these things was going to be high, but Mavis worked with me on getting them done for an economical cost. I also had a problem with the front driver's side tire that they looked at and addressed for free. The truck was ready for me to pick up within four hours, and while I spent a few more dollars than I expected to earlier that day, I felt comfortable that work was done to the truck that it badly needed. Later that weekend, my mother in law came over and parked her car in our driveway. She asked me to look at her car because the tire light was on. Well, it turns our she had a flat, and had been driving on it. The tire had been damaged near the sidewall. I called Mavis, late on a Sunday afternoon to ask if they could repair a tire, and they said yes, but to please come soon, as they were closing soon. I took the tire over there and they asked if I could just drop it off and come back later...no problem. They call me 10 minutes later to tell me the tire is unrepairable ( I sort of figured ) and that they had an economical tire in stock they could mount on the rim. I asked them to please go forward with that. They said they would call me when done. Just shy of their closing timing, they called me to come get the tire, which I did five minutes later. I got the tire, mounted it for my mother in law and she was on her way. So in a span of less than four days, I interacted with Mavis Discount Tire twice, and both experiences were positive for me. Positive enough for me to become a customer and continue to go back until I feel otherwise. The location for me cannot be beat and I feel like they do look out for their customers. I happily recommend this location, just call them directly for appointments so there is no confusion, and don't get them confused with other nearby locations. read more

Please avoid. Tried them for an alignment and asked to see the specs and as it turned out I did not need one and charged me $120. My specs were in the guide lines of not needing an alignment. Too many other instances too of charging for unnecessary repairs. read more

They have always been helpful. Repairs flats quickly. But I had the car in for tire rotation in October, and now 8 months later, lug nuts stripped and studs needed. And of course, there is no history of having that car in there for tire rotation. Several of my friends have talked trash about Mavis and I have always been a proponent. Do not make an appointment on line because if you do, you will take off from work only to be told that you wasted your time because the tire you ordered never came in and no one bothered to contact you in any way. No apologies, nothing. Bad business. I am sympathetic to deliveries being delayed due to Covid but you must contact your customer to inform them so they do not take off from work or suggest they go to another dealer 20 miles away when you are there for a flat tire in the first place!!! OK, so I really have not written a review in the past but I was really upset and I wanted to warn others of my experience. I drove my car into the Mavis Tire Center in Smithtown with a small leak in one of my tires. I was going to drive to Rochester, so I did not want to go with a small leak. I saw the nail in the center of the tire tread before I went in and knew that it was the culprit. I was told that the wait would be an hour and a half. I really did not have a choice so I agreed and waited. When my car was finally brought in, they took the tire off and started to repair it. I stood outside the garage but watched. I found out the person working on my car was new from one of the others there. The technician started to work on the tire, taking out the small nail. I found out that they only "plug" the tire versus "patch" it from the inside. (Side note: I repaired many hundreds of tires in my history as I worked for another name brand tire company - so I really do know the process). Once the nail was out, the technician used a tool (pictured here) to make the hole BIGGER so that they can get the plug and tool in the tire. So, once he forced the tool into the tire, he moved it in a circular fashion making the hole BIGGER. He struggled with it the whole time. The manager (Bruno) also came to help with the tire. They seemed to be taking far too long to fix it. Then, the manager comes to me and says that the hole is TOO BIG to fix. He said he tried 2 plugs at one time but it still leaked. I was more than shocked. He said that I needed a new tire. I told him that it was a small nail (see picture) that went straight in. How could it be too big? He said that he could order me a tire as he did not have one. I said that he owed me a tire as it was not that big of a hole until his team made it bigger. He said that he would not even help with the cost because he does hundreds of plugs and mine is just too big. He also did not have the tire in stock and would not get it until sometime Saturday if I wanted one - note that this was on Friday and I was planning on driving to Rochester in that car Friday night. Again, I drove in with the small leak on the Chrysler minivan. I was upset but the manager told me that he needs the spot and will not help with a new tire and that he needs to get me out of his shop and planned to just fill it up with 40 psi and the two plugs that were leaking and park my car outside - REALLY. I said that he at least had to put the spare on, which he did with a lot of help from me to even find it, drop it down from the center of the vehicle, and help to get it out. This was a really bad experience and was really due to the way that I was handled after the service center damaged the tire beyond repair. Now, a small leak (very repairable) will cost me $174 plus tax to get fixed correctly. You can make your own assessment but I think it is clear from the pictures that it should have been easily repaired. I think that Mavis owes me a new tire. We will see how they respond to their customers via reviews. I am more than open to discuss this with a higher level management spokesperson to resolve this issue. I will also use other social media platforms, if not responded to. If they do respond and there is a level of satisfaction, I will post let you know. read more

I've been taking my vehicles here for years with great service but after yesterday I will no longer be coming to Mavis. I called the night before and made an appointment to drop off my truck for a NYS inspection, oil change, tire rotation and fix a leaking tire. I stressed on the phone and when I dropped it off at 8:00 am that I needed it back by 4:00pm. First they failed me for inspection because of tinted windows which they had no problem passing last year. Second they said they fixed the leak and filled the tire back up which either they didn't fix it or didn't fill it up because it's still very low. But most importantly I had to wait till almost 5:00pm to get my truck which forced me to cancel plans and made me an hour late picking up my children. Having my truck for 8hrs!!! Is more than enough time to get it done. read more
