They also made some very smart recommendations for care and maintenance of my car... Scheduled an appointment to bring my wife's car in for a NYS inspection and conventional oil change. I'm a car guy. I know the ins and outs. This guy behind the counter refused to use conventional oil. Only wanted to use synthetic "because the car is a 2021." Also, they make more money on the synthetic changes. I wasn't about to prove myself to this guy that the car manual calls for conventional. Walked right out of that dingy place with unscrupulous owners/workers. Had trouble with my exhaust and a part became rotted where it needed to be replaced.. .drove in unexpectedly the mechanic came over immediately put my car on a lift found the problem told me to make a next day appt. He was courteous and friendly and had stopped what he was doing to come over and look at my car. He told me he can repair it no problem. Spoke to Ijaz at the desk, he was also very helpful and kind. Brakes / Mufflers Don't you hate when you walk into a place, tell them exactly what you want done to your car and then they kill two hours before telling you about a completely and diametrically opposite set of items that they want to replace? What I asked for: my exact statement to the people there was: I want front rotors, pads and an alignment. What they tried to sell me: rear rotors and front struts. What I got: front pads and an alignment. How does something like this happen? I blame it on the so-called inspection that they take it upon themselves to perform. If I asked for front brakes, I should not see my rear tires on the ground. I own the car, I drive the car every day and believe me, I know when it needs brakes or an alignment. Next don't second guess me - if I'm telling you the car drifts to one side, don't tell me that the brand new tires are chopped on the edges due to bad struts- it is an impossibility for a tire to be that damaged with only a few hundred miles on them and for the driver to not feel the rough ride. Another favorite sell tactic, and this is not just Midas, is "the "X" item is past the factory recommended replacement mileage." Bottom line is this: if the recommended strut replacement is at 50,000 miles, and I am driving it with no problem at 80,000 miles, then there is NOTHING wrong with the struts. I was getting agitated since they killed 2 hours looking for shit that had nothing to do with what I wanted - so I told them to forget the rotors and got out of there. As a final footnote: the alignment fixed the drift and the front rotors are still warped - but I can live with it. read more

Where to start... Well this is hands down the best shop I have ever had the pleasure of doing business with. The most important thing I can tell anyone considering doing business here, make sure you come when Bobby is working. (Which is pretty much everyday) Management better know that if they lose him, they lose everything. I hope him and Kevin get a nice looking Christmas bonus because of all their hard work and dedication. My boyfriend and I have a 93' Buick century that had several issues upon our initial visit. Bobby was very thorough with the diagnosis and he knows exactly what he is doing. Due to the age of the car it had a few original parts that needed to be replaced. We had one mechanic tell us that although the first issue we had wasn't fixed, we would be fine driving it. Bobby immediately interjected saying something like "what are you crazy? I'm am not letting them drive out of here like that" he sure as hell kept his word and figured out the problem. Not happy at all. I had a Groupon and things went south. I have been a customer in the past and never had this problem before. Firstly, I called early in the day to see when it would be convenient for THEM to come in and was told 2:00PM. Then when I arrived on time, I was originally set but later told by the manager it will take an additional 20 -30 min. Begrudgingly, I agreed. I can understand that things don't always work out with timing as the he reminded me. Lol! I get it that even at a doctors appointment I have to wait. Then after getting my car in, he needed to order the filter at that time. He starts to tell me it needs a "special filter" and 8 quarts of oil and the groupon is only for 4 quarts. Why would you wait until I come me in, and wait before telling me this? Then he tells me it's normally at least $120 for the oil before the filter. My dealership charges $89.00. Who is going to go to Midas and spend more and wait? I took my car and left. There is no reason to continue here. I have always used various Midas service shops but after the bait and switch and the attempted upsells, I will never return. read more

These guys charge inflated prices and scam customers. I arrived for an oil change. Ijaz Bokahri checked me (he was courteous and accommodating). When his partner "Singh" arrived, I was shown a nail in the tread of my front tire and was told i was lucky the tire has not blown up on me and that car was not safe to drive. I was basically duped into believing car was unsafe. I reluctantly agreed to the price he stated. I later found the cost to be very inflated and almost double what other places -- even dealers -- generally charge. When I brought this up to their attention, I was told since i agreed already, they wouldn't budge. Don't be duped by the nice/older gentleman at the counter. Do your self a favor and save yourself from being scammed. Take your business elsewhere. Btw, I understand they may be opening up another location in Huntington. So stay away from both! read more

Service was okay, the wait was a little long for an oil change, they did rotate the tires for free included in the cost of the oil change, they plugged a tire that had a slow leak /screw in it which l mentioned and told to take care of it. They did try to sell me wheel balancing which l declined. Posted price for an oil change was $29.99 total bill was $59. l guess the tire plug was $20something, a little steep, but WTF, l needed it. To piggy back off the last review the wait was extremely long (2 hours and there was only 1 other person waiting) a little annoyed by that even though he did say it would take a while I had no drop off option. Presented with a $19.95 coupon and ended up still paying their $29.99 poster price bc he charged me for a filter, which is weird every oil change I've ever gotten has come with a filter included. So the coupon isn't really a coupon if you find one on their website you'll end up paying full price with the "filter up sell" or the "your car takes 6oz" up sell. I did have a nail in my tire that was leaking and he said it's normally $30 but he'd include it so that's why they're getting 3 stars from me and not 2 but he did tell me to take care of the guys instead so I ended up walking to 7/11 in 5° whether just to go to the ATM cause I was told to tip the guy well.... A little uncomfortable with that. Anyway, missed my 3:00 o'clock show because I stupidly thought two hours would be plenty of time to get a local oil change. Unfortunately I agree with Lauren. I also had to learn the hard way that this shop is incompetent and run by a scam artist. I took my car in for a hard start. $750 later they told me it was the throttle body and I needed a tune-up, etc... FIVE visits later - yes, five - over the next few months they discover they were wrong and it is a head gasket. The weaselly owner Ajiz (of Midas Syosset and Commack) tells me he will take the cost of the throttle body part ($360) off the now $1200 he wants to charge me to fix what they didn't properly the first time. I take the car to three other shops to get a second opinion. Wouldn't you know it - it's not even the head gasket. It's the fuel pump. In fact, Nissan put out a bulletin for this specific model/year on hard starts. Something both mechanics told me any auto body should know. I called and spoke to Kris about it. I told him I didn't want to argue, but I wanted the $360 credited to a new fuel pump (which should be about $400). Two weeks went by and Ajiz never called. Then when I track him down he tells me that the credit was only good for the gasket. The guy is a SCUMBAG... and the shop mechanics are clearly incompetent. STAY AWAY! read more

I've been using this Midas for years. They do a great job (unlike the Pepboys in the area that usually cause more problems than they fix) and have never recommended any work that wasn't also recommended by my car dealer when getting a second opinion. I tend to stick to the dealership for major work, but this is definitely my go-to spot for oil changes, inspections, etc. Definitely check the website for coupons before you go. And the only reason I docked them a star was because the wait times can be extensive, even if you have an appointment, but they do have a TV, magazines and a snack machine for while you're waiting. If it's that big of an issue for you, you can just pick up your car later. read more

Beware. Don't bother coming here even if you have a Groupon. This had to be by far the worst service please ever. Bobby is the service manager and Rasa was his boss. I went there last Wednesday to get oil change in which I had a Groupon for. Bobby told me over the phone to return my Groupon and he would match my price. Well not only did the price go up because he cleans that my car took more oil than it does he also charges for a oil filter so there goes the price for your Groupon. I waited quite sometime just for a basic synthetic oil change on a Hummer H3. When it was done I started driving home about halfway home I realized the sticker on my windshield stated I needed to come back in 3000 miles. Now I know that regular oil is only 3000 miles and synthetic should be 5000 to 7500 Miles. When I called him up he blamed the kid that did my oil change and told me to come back and he would redo it with the synthetic oil that I originally paid for and that was supposed to be used for my vehicle. This was now my second visit and I was sitting here waiting for about 40 minutes. One of The workers came up to me and asked me for my keys. I nicely said please put synthetic in my car. He then replied are you asking or are you telling me? So I looked up at Bobby the store manager and said I am telling you because you guys messed up on my car the first time. Bobby had no clue who I was until I reminded him of the mess up. It was very unprofessional and I just had a gut feeling he did not want them to work on my car. So not only did I pay for service that was done the wrong way and I paid more than what I received the management and the professionalism was horrible so now I have to go somewhere else to get it oil change and pay again. I went in here as I have for years for a prompt and reliable repair. Initially I was told by the gentleman behind the counter that the technician was at lunch and I should wait. There were no other customers, it was the middle of the day and empty. I waited appx 45 minutes and was told 10 more minutes. After the ten minutes I asked what was going on. The counter person said "10 more minutes, the tech is walking back for some reason" it is over an hour now. I finally walked out of the store to see no one walking anywhere, I went back in and politely told this gent that this is no way to conduct business. He said" it wasn't his usual shop, the true manager was at a meeting", and the tech is seemingly on a 90 minute lunch (that I know of) The tech actually called into the shop several times while I waited and still never came back to address my concern. I had gotten a coupon for 2 oil changes here. I brought the car in first thing in the morning on a weekend so it wouldnt take long. I my car only has 20,000 miles on it. After 5 minutes of having my car up on the lift the manager walks over and tells me my A/C belt and transmission belt are both severely worn and need to be replaced. He has one of the belts in the store and the other can be there within the hour. And since they were doing both at once they would only charge labor once. I said no thank you I have to be somewhere but I will bring it back in soon. I brought my car to the dealership and they looked at it, everything was fine and nothing needed to be replaced. Bottom line is they didnt seem happy with just getting the $30 for my oil change, they wanted to charge me 300+ for the belts as well. Visited Midas Auto in Commack NY on Sunday, 5/20/2013. Went in knowing that I had a break between flex pipe and solid pipe in exhaust system. Hesitantly agreed to what I believed was inflated price based on part cost and stated hour repair time. Paid my bill and went out to my car, turned key, and nothing. Made sure car was in park and tried again, nothing. Went back inside and told person behind counter that my car will not start and the person who repaired my car went and verified that car would not start. He brought out battery jumper/starter and after repeated attempts, car would not start. They rolled it back inside and after a little while called me in to say that battery tests dead and that I need a new battery. I was dumbfounded. I believe in coincidence but the fact that a car that had NEVER failed to start, that never showed any signs of battery trouble would just up and die literally seconds after ANY car repair boggles my mind. At first the repairer (mechanic?) said that the hood was open and maybe the light drained the battery. Granted, I know that the only way having the exhaust repair done could affect my electrical system would be a wire or electrical component got burned while the pipe was welded. If this was the case, replacing the batter most likely would not rectify the issue unless the battery was inadvertently shorted somehow. What bothers me is that when the repairer couldn't jump my car, he placed the terminal clamps on the unit which shorted and sparked due to the fact that he didn't turn the unit off first. Was this par for the course or just nerves after having a car not start right after having fixed it? I asked about replacement cost for the battery and was told $150. I stated that I wanted my car started and I would take it elsewhere since the quoted price was about 50% higher than Sears and Pepboys, both not far away. After a while when my car was not running, I asked whether they could improve on the price of the battery. The owner stated that the $150 price was already discounted because I just had service performed there and the regular price was $189. After a few minutes, he offered me $10 off the price of the battery or a free oil change during my next service. I agreed to the discount because I knew I would not be returning to Midas for service. The reason they couldn't do better on the price, the owner said, was that there is very little margin in batteries. I doubt this as well. I still agreed for fear that I would go elsewhere, save fifty bucks on a battery, and then find out that their diagnosis was faulty. If the battery was not the culprit, I wanted to know before leaving Midas. Okay, it's hard to complain about the initial repair price that I knew about ahead of time and agreed to (however reluctantly) without a gun to my head. And yeah, coincidences can and do happen. But the smarmy attitude of the owner makes me suspicious as does their apparent need to make as much as they can. That is the reason for their "Free" inspections. I cannot prove that my dead battery was due to any ineptness or fraud but the owner did not do anything to lessen the feeling I had when I left that I was fleeced for every extra dollar they could get. We found this place to be wonderful and honest too. My husband realized on a Sunday afternoon while getting the car ready for a trip the next morning that his inspection was past due. I looked to see who was open on Sunday around the Commack vicinity. I found Midas and another auto repair business who we used in the past for an inspection and latter learned that we got ripped off with faulty and unnecessary repairs. We certainly would not go back there. I mean once tricked and twice a fool was not to be. Well let me tell you from past experiences with inspections we braced for the worst but got the complete opposite. We were told the car was fine. Nothing else needed! In addition, although they were pretty busy that day as many places are closed for inspections on Sundays, they were very accommodating and got us squeezed us in.
