Wowee to Maui. Five phat-ass American stars for being a great American-style Chinese restaurant and for being wicked easy on the wallet. Beware that Maui is not an upscale or yuppified place. In-house lottery amenities and table-side views of scrappy junk yards and like make this place unpretentious and blue-collar. My One took me here early in the day to beat the crowds that have been flocking here for over 40 years. The hostess was very friendly and politely informed us that their credit card machine was busted and cash only was accepted. No biggie. We requested a window seat in this empty place and perused the menu and opted for the Deluxe Lunch Special. Your choice of four items among 20 or more choices of "the usual" classics. Moey chose essentially a PuPu Pladder selection (Wings, PFR, 'Goons and Fingers) and I chose Meatless Egg Foo Yung, Beef with Peapods, Kung Pao, and Shrimp with Veggies. Hot tea was served au gratis. It was a bit of a wait until the phood arrived but all was hot n' fresh (sans the PFR per usual). My Yung was "lambasted" with redneck brown gravy and piping hot. My other items were delish and "lambasted" with goopy AF MSG sauces and contained plenty of animal. Very generous portions for a mere $11.50. This leaves plenty of cash in your wallet to play Keno and scratch tix while dining and to do other smart things with your money. The service was excellent as these peeps are true decades-old veterans of Maui. This is most certainly not their first rodeo in serving customers efficiently. If you like cheap prices, lottery, junk-yard views, old-school simplicity and yummy phood then peep out Maui for some good ole American Chinese. Friendly Faces If you're looking for the pretty good "American" Chinese food in the south shore, then look no further. Maui, a long standing staple in the Brockton and surrounding area has been consistent for decades and never disappoints. This restaurant doesn't try to be a high-end fancy Asian place, they know who they are and they are good at what they do. No frills American Chinese food. This place is always filled with characters. The staff is very rude I understand this establishment is low budget w/ no staffing but if you're going to seat ur guests at least acknowledge them we sat for 20 mins and still was not served my husband tried to get a waiter's attention and was fanned off. Visited my hometown, Brockton and wanted to show my girlfriend what good Chinese food tasted like without having to go into Boston. We ordered a pupu platter to share (she loved the chicken wings!) and a combination fried rice which was way too much for the two of us. I got a cocktail (forget the name but it was not to sweet, just sour enough and strong) which the server recommended and she got soup as a starter. Overall, a good meal! read more

The combo itself was $16 and than there were up charges for each appetizer. All in all I believe it was $21 for the combo plate and the portion is TINY. When I say tiny i literally mean kids meal size. Taste wise the food is not bad, but for that price you can really expect a bigger portion elsewhere. Staff was nice. Very accommodating. Unfortunately the food was seriously lacking. Also the place felt and smelled like a tomb. Like it hadn't been dusted or deep cleaned in years. I was afraid to drink my soda as it was obviously fountain soda and I was scared the tubes hadn't been cleaned in God knows how long. Things I like about the Maui: cocktail waitresses, drinks, pricing, food, karaoke nights, the bar/lounge area which is alot bigger and comfier than most chinese establishments & the fact that Keno is available. Things I do not like about the Maui: the young adult who stands at the front desk area and runs the Keno machine. Let me preface my last visit by saying that I'm not a regular, nor a first time patron to the Maui, but I am however, a loyal customer for many years now and I haven't had an experience as bad as my last one at the Maui ever or anywhere else for that matter. Our waitress had submitted my Keno ticket for play earlier in the night and as our party was heading out, I stopped at the hostess/take-out/Keno desk to provide my ticket and gather my $2 winnings. We had cleaned off our table quite nicely and so when I put the Keno ticket on the surface in front of the man working the machine, I also placed the 1st ticket with the penciled in choices next to it, thinking he could throw it away for me. The young man said nothing to me as he reached over and grabbed the 1st Keno form, not the one needed to get my my $, I said nothing, figuring he knew what he was doing & could obviously see we were leaving, what with our jackets on and pocketbooks in hand...then he took the 2nd ticket & after punching it thru, asked me for $3. I was highly confused and said, "What?, I won $2." He then said, "No, you never paid for this ticket." You can pretty much get the jist of the rest of the conversation, I was not understanding how walking up with a $2 winning ticket meant that I owed $3. I even called my waitress over and said, "Can you please tell him that I paid $5 for this ticket and you brought it up for me?" Thats when the kid said, "I thought you were playing another game 'cuz you handed me this ticket." (Meaning the playing card 1st one.) I explained to him that I never handed that ticket to him, that I had put it on the desk to be thrown away & that he just took that one without asking me a thing. I said again that he owed me $2 and I didn't owe him a thing. He said, growing increasingly spastic, he couldn't give me $2 now that he owes the machine $3. A woman approached from the dining room and asked him what the problem was...before I could explain, he said, "Mom, she handed me this ticket or put it right here so I put it in first & now I owe the machine money." Clearly siding with her son, she pointed out the fact to me that he could give me $2 but it would be coming out of his pocket because by the end of the night, he'd still have to pay money to the machine for the now, 5 more games that were mistakenly played. After the back & forths and the kid ridiculing me for the 19th time about how I put both tickets on the table and not to do that ever again, I finally decided enough was enough and told them to "forget it", then headed out the door. Went here with my son this past Sat, Nite. The staff is rude. Two servers were arguing about which table to sit us at. 1st bad sign. Food was nasty. Maui has a lot of things going for it that elevate it in the category of Asian cuisine. The lunch specials are unbeatable. For $9 you get your choice of 4 items from a list of, say, 20 dishes. That doesn't mean you only get one choice of meat/entree either! Last time, I ordered General Gao's, Roast Pork fried rice, crab rangoons, and Kung Pao Chicken...all above average in quality. What really sets this place apart is their portions. The server actually brought out 2 plates in order to hold my meal. Needless to say leftovers were a plus. Quality is good, servers are very attentive, and the atmosphere is pleasing. From experience, you need to dine in to have the larger portions. The quality of the food has gone downhill dramatically. Myself and my daughter had gotten the general Gau chicken and it was so over breaded small pieces of chicken and was overcooked. I am not one to send food back so I just ate some of it and left hungry. I am not sure if they are trying to cut corners to save money considering the whole coronavirus but I will not be going back there and neither will my family. The Maui is the place to be on the weekends. They have karaoke nights and sometimes have bands. Perfect place to hang out with friends and have some really dope Chinese food. I got rice and orange chicken and I was literally going crazy at the table it was that good. They just remodeled and everything looks awesome before you even walk in they have a nice light setup. The staff are really down to earth and funny and are very helpful if you need something. Definitely one of my number one places to eat. read more

This place was really good. There Pu-Pu platter was really good and it seemed as though it's very popular, because every table ordered it. We ordered several items along with the pu-up platter that were all very tasty, egg fu young, lobster sauce, Saugus wings, crab Rangoon and beef fried rice. My favorite item was the egg rolls!!
