This is a quaint breakfast and brunch restaurant that offers locally sourced ingredients, including their delicious coffee beans. This is a place to go that feels welcoming and gives you the "Cheers" vibe where "everybody knows your name." The service is fast, and the food is hot! This is our go to for breakfast.
Food was pretty good. The service was excellent and they were very friendly and super nice. Will return soon.
I've heard good things about this place and was finally in the area to check it out! It was a Saturday morning around 10a, and it was busy, but we didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a seat. They had two areas for seating, one of which was outdoors-ish. The ambiance was classic/modern and colorful. Multiple people took care of us and I think it's all team tips and such. We'd said we needed a few minutes to look at the menu, but then it took them a while to come back for our order. I was expecting more options on the menu, but it was pretty standard breakfast options. No fancy coffees or foods. They also serve lunch and breakfast is available all day. What food we did order was very good. The Christopher's favorite was very flavorful, I liked the crispy hash browns cooked into the burrito. The pumpkin pancakes were also delicious, perfect for the time of year!
08/31/2025 It's hard to believe I had never been to MBB until now. I met up with a friend here for brunch on a Sunday at around 10:30am. They were busy, but the staff moved quick and a two-seat table was available within a few minutes. I went with "The Basics" ($12.29) - two eggs any style, choice of potatoes (home fries or hash browns), and toast with homemade preserves. My friend got "The Hog & Chick" ($14.49) which is The Basics plus choice of bacon or sausage. She insisted that I try the bacon, and it was so good, cooked perfectly and crispy. My over easy eggs and home fries were delicious. The sourdough was thick, toasted, and tasty. I like that they cook with only the good stuff - real butter and extra virgin olive oil. Every staff member we interacted with was so friendly and courteous. I'm definitely adding MBB to my brunch rotation!
There is no false advertising at Matt's "Big Breakfast," you are well-fed here! I ordered the Hog & Chick breakfast with bacon and home fries. As you will see from the photo, the plate was straining to hold it all, accompanied by a thick piece of rye toast. Eggs were cooked perfectly! Everything was served hot and in a timely manner. Our server was great and we enjoyed breakfast on their nice patio. My only regret is that it it's been over a year since I hit up one of the Matt's BB locations!
The location is clean with great outdoor seating. The decor is plain and simple. Nothing special. The staff have always been great and professional. The food though, breakfast perfection. Ok full disclosure I always order the chop and chick or steak and eggs. I absolutely love these dishes. The pork chop is one of the best I've ever had. If you need a brunch place with excellent proteins....this is the place.
We went here a while ago. This place was mediocre in our opinion. I got steak and eggs and the steak tasted like a really low quality steak. Which I get it, I believe it was the happy hour or the daily special. I guess if you're gonna do a special with steak you lower the quality. The hash browns definitely needed to be cooked longer, too soft. The OJ was good! Didn't really enjoy the steak enough to come back.
Our first time at this location...have been to the downtown location several times over the years. As we walked in, we were told to find our own seats. After looking around (they weren't busy at this moment), we choose a table closer over to the kitchen and their view window. I always love sitting near the chef's watching them prep and cook. They have a daily special and today was my favorite, eggs benedict. I actually waivered back and forth between this and their pork chop and eggs but ultimately went with the server choice of the benedict. You don't get a dedicated server, they are roaming and everything is there to help and support you, keep drinks coming, serving, etc. Wife choose The Hog & Chick, their version of a basic eggs/bacon or sausage, and toast breakfast. She didn't specify which potatoes and it came with your classic shredded hash browns which was cooked well, crispy on the outside and tender and soft in the center. She asked for the sausage patties, which had a slight kick to them. The dish comes with a slice of their thick sourdough toast and that most delicious home-made strawberry jam. A wonderful, tasty dish! I want to get back to my breakfast...I specifically asked for the home fries and what a disappointment. Yes, I probably could have sent them back but didn't. My biggest issue...they were so, so greasy. I loved the caramelized onions and the bits of rosemary but overall, just way to greasy for me. I did like their hollandaise sauce, although it also needed more lemon flavor. I had the poached eggs and they were cooked to perfection. Ok and lastly, I just want to say that I was a bit concerned with some of the hygiene I witnessed while sitting and watching both the server's area and the chefs in the kitchen. Had an environmental specialist been present, there most likely would have been some writing up. Things like...new server enters space, places both of her cups on the counter, punches in, pulls her hair back into a ponytail, moves her cups off to the side and goes to work. No handwashing observed. In the kitchen I watched a couple of servers and chefs touch hair, face, pull up pants, etc. and continue to cut, chop, serve. Bare hands observed while prepping including a pulling up of pants, the push back of the side hairs and then reaching over, peeling and slicing a banana and putting the pieces bare-handed into a bowl for serving. When you are in the moment, these actions happen without realizing it but as a customer watching...not Kosher. I asked about their outdoor patio area...it's not pet friendly so wanted to share that.
Came in for brunch with a friend and was expecting a long wait but was seated immediately! I had been to the Matt's in DTPHX and I had been meaning to check out their new Gilbert location. The service here was warm and friendly from the moment we walked in. I love that they have breakfast staples and lunchy and brunchy options such as their grilled chicken sandwich which was dee-licious. I'm a sucker for a good cold brew and although you may not think good cold brew comes in a can this one was delicious and very strong!
Matt's is my husband's favorite breakfast place. It is always clean and bright in this space and every worker we have ever had contact with has been welcoming and chipper. I usually get the Avocado Toast. My husband loves the fluffy, fresh blueberry pancakes. We come early (think 7-ish on a weekday) and it is usually pretty chill then.
We've been to Matt's Big Breakfast in Gilbert many times and it's quite frankly hit or miss. Having gone to their original location in Phoenix for years prior to the Gilbert location opening, we've noticed a lot of inconveniences here. Matt's is obviously a very popular spot, especially on the weekends. During the more popular brunch hours, there's usually an hour-ish wait; they do have outdoor seating for cooler months, which is nice. We've had quite a few items from their menu. I've liked the waffle and griddle cakes the most. If you're looking for something more spicy, their breakfast burrito is good. The reason for 3 stars is because there have been times the eggs were dry/overcooked, same with the potatoes where they crisped too much, burnt bread, and so on. Other times everything has been perfect. We used to go here more often previously, but it isn't our favorite anymore. Also not a fan of the wait, given that the food may not be worth it.
This place reminds me of going to a family member's house and the comfort it brings to be around your loved ones. To be honest, when I first came here it just seemed like a normal breakfast sport with kind people working, like a mom and pop shop. However the more I kept coming, the more I started to fall in love. The food is always consistently good and the service makes me feel like we've all been friends forever. Being here is so comforting and homey. I love how not one person is your server and everyone there is happy to help and always checking up. Not only that, I believe most of their ingredients are locally sourced ! This has become our go to breakfast spot! We have also been bringing our friends here and everyone loves it. We're trying to get their daily specials each day but so far have only gotten the Fri-Sun meals. Looks like i gotta leave work early these days to reach my goal of trying everything on the menu!
Very friendly service and a quaint atmosphere. Portions are large and very hearty. Good flavor with a grilled jalapeño. Bacon was a little too crispy for my taste but has great flavor. Be warned if you are looking for chicken fried steak or biscuits and gravy this is not the place for you. It's not one menu as a regular.

First time here and they did not disappoint. Had the Big Poppa Burrito and it was loaded and large. My guest had the breakfast sandwich with the potatoes. Very attentive service. Will return as the Corned Beef Hash is only available on Wednesday's. Cute place in a very nice plaza. Plan a later breakfast or stop by for lunch as there are plenty of local shops to patronize. read more
Matt's Big Breakfast is a local chain. I came across a list that had the best pancakes in each state. Matt's pancakes (specifically the blueberry ones) were named the best in AZ. With that in mind, we made a point of going to the one closest to our hotel. We went for a late breakfast on a weekday. The place was doing a brisk business but we were seated immediately upon entering. They have seating indoors as well as covered outdoor seating. We chose to eat inside. A server came to our table in short order. Of course, I chose the blueberry pancakes and a glass of lemonade. My husband ordered scrambled eggs with sausages and hash browns plus a cup of coffee. This dish also comes with some toast. The service here is slow. Oddly enough, all the diners we noticed were unfazed by this. What that tells me is that they like the food so much that they're willing to wait for however long it takes. When the food finally came, we were eager to dig in. Each order of pancakes comes with three of them. These were awesome pancakes. They are thick, moist and fluffy. The amount of fresh blueberries is very generous. I spread the butter around and poured some syrup on them. This was a surprisingly filling meal. Much as I enjoyed it, I just couldn't eat it all. I let our server know that I did like the pancakes but I was full! My husband liked his breakfast. The only thing he thought needed work was the hash brown potatoes. He said they were on the dry side. Otherwise, he gladly ate it all. We would definitely go to Matt's again next time we're in town. Until then, I'll just have to dream about the pancakes :) read more

Good spot to catch breakfast with my friends after a walk in nearby Gilbert park. This restaurant sits situated in a new community with apartments, bars, shopping and more. We were able to be seated immediately. The daily special looked so good we had ordered two. My friend ordered her Friday Scramble with egg whites and I got my with 3 whole eggs. The dish was good but mine lacked peppers. I only had 2 red peppers in my whole dish meanwhile my friends dish has so many red peppers. The home fries were super tasty and chalked with rosemary. My othet friend got the skinny omelet which came with a great salad (too much argula for me). All in all a good breakfast. The coffee was plentiful and hot. The pancakes were disappointing. I only ate half of my shared pancakes. The vermont maple syrup was good but overall I would not recommend the pancakes. read more

Went here for breakfast the other day with a girlfriend and the pancakes were pretty good. I liked my scrambled egg. I was not a huge fan of the bacon just because I do not prefer thick cut bacon with a bunch of pepper, but I see what they are going for.good customer service. I would definitely come back and try other things on the menu. I'm interested in the hamburger. read more

Pretty good breakfast fare located in the beautiful Epicenter in Central Gilbert. They don't take takeout orders via phone, only through the website. The interface was simple and the food was ready in around 30 minutes. The staff were friendly upon pickup and the food was great. I ordered the Sunday Special (Steak and Eggs), and my Mom ordered the Hog and Chick (Sausage and Eggs). The steak was seasoned well and our eggs were cooked to perfection. The orders also came with Home Fries (potatoes with rosemary and onions), and Toast with house-made preserves. Everything was great, especially the preserves, but the potatoes needed another minute or two as they were a bit raw. I will be back to Matt's to explore their menu more! read more

Came for breakfast and were told to sit where we wanted. Daughter chose a corner booth (no cushions) and the bench seat had some crumbs and dirt on it. My menu was also dirty, these kinds of things I notice when I go out to eat. Server was friendly and our drinks, honey lemonade and strawberry honey lemonade were delicious. The strawberry one was the winner. Husband ordered the Hog and Chick plate with thick cut bacon and hash browns. Their buttered bread with homemade preserves is delicious. The hash browns were crispy and perfect. The bacon was also thick and deliciously seasoned. I ordered the Wednesday special, corned beef hash. My eggs were cooked perfectly and the hash was seasoned well and very tasty. It also came with a side of bread and preserves. My daughter got the blueberry pancakes and we all got to try them and they were fluffy with a little crisp to them which we liked. I would recommend this place and I would come back again when in the area. read more

Sunday steak and eggs at Matt's Big Breakfast in Gilbert are pure perfection. Tender, flavorful steak, golden crispy potatoes, sourdough toast, and farm-fresh eggs cooked just right, every bite is delicious. The friendly team makes you feel right at home, and the patio at 11 a.m. today was surprisingly cool and comfortable with fans, misters, and a soft breeze. I am not sure how I feel about the "team service" that they are known for, because we had a heck of a time flagging down someone to take our order. I do love that they are farm to table though. The pork is locally sourced from The Pork Chop in town. My pork chop was perfectly seasoned and the home fries were delicious as well. They definitely have regular customers as we noticed most people seemed to be. Overall, the ambiance is great for a breakfast/brunch/lunch place. read more
Took my husband here for his first visit. We sat outside on the covered shaded patio and it was so nice and relaxing. I had the tastiest breakfast burrito and it was amazing. Big chunks of potatoes, eggs, chorizo, pinto beans. And the sauce they smothered it with was so flavorful. It rocked! Husband had the chicken sandwich and he loved it. Came with crunchy chips and a pickle. It was perfect he said. Our server was so helpful and very attentive. Lovely. So we will be back very soon.... read more

This morning my wife treated me to a Birthday Breakfast and have heard many good things about Matt's so here we sit enjoying another year celebrating, many choices to choose from so went with the Tuesday Special Biscuits and gravy with a add on of their thick bacon, everything was great and tasteful and thanks to our waiter advising us of the portion size so split one breakfast with my wife and still left full and satisfied, the service was on point, very nice dining inside and outside with a great atmosphere. So Birthday or any other occasion stop by and give them a try and hopefully you'll be as happy as we were. read more

Came in Saturday around 10am. There was a short line, but the wait wasn't long. We did see someone cut in front of someone else, but I could see the confusion of what happened, but the hostess didn't notice and the party who got cut didn't say anything when they had to put their name down after the guy who cut in front of them. Ordered the Five Spot and the Big Papa. Everything was good. The burrito was hearty for a breakfast burrito, wished it was sauced a little more though. We didn't get our waters topped off any time. My girlfriend had to drink my glass. It can get a bit loud in the restaurant, but the setting was fine. They use real flowers in the table setting. Food was good, service was doable, atmosphere chill... we would come back here. read more
This is an Arizona staple breakfast joint and there's no question why. Do you want elevated diner food? This is the spot! I got the big papa burrito and the iced tea (unsweetened). Come hungry, because this burrito is huge. It blew me away in both size and taste. Great value in this entree. Add some hot sauce and you're good to go! Iced tea was refreshing and lovely. Great atmosphere, welcoming for friends and families. Lots of parking. Waitress was really friendly, and the manager even checked on us! Thankful they opened this new location up! Open recently at Epicenter! Indoor and outdoor seating available. Very clean restaurant. The Chop and Chick: the hash browns were delicious! Perfectly crispy! The pork chop was more on the dry side and salty. Steak and Eggs: excellent hash browns and the steak was made well. Service was great at first with constant refilling of the bottomless coffee that we ordered. They put the bill on our table before we finished eating, and we tried to pay asap, but then they just made us feel so rushed to leave. read more

Matt's Big Breakfast has been on the list for some time now! Opting for a healthier choice, I ordered the GRAINS, GREENS & BEANS bowl, which featured a generous serving of ancient grains (farro), sautéed local organic baby spinach, heirloom Anasazi beans, topped with two poached eggs, crushed herbs, and pink Himalayan sea salt. I appreciated the effort to provide a "healthier" option on the menu, though I felt the dish could have benefited from a bit more flavor. The spinach was lightly salted, and the farro was slightly undercooked. Eggs, while plain, were cooked to perfection. I feel a drizzle of sauce would've finished this dish off well. I was certainly satiated, but I'd probably pass on ordering this dish again. My partner chose THE BIG PAPA BURRITO, a local tortilla stuffed with three eggs,roasted Yukon gold potatoes, organic pinto beans, jalapenos, cheddar cheese, and enchilada style with their ranchero sauce, sans the chorizo. While the portions were hearty and aligned with the price, we found the jalapenos to be a bit overbearing. If I had ordered the dish myself, I would have preferred to have them on the side for a more controlled spice level. The large portions made it easy to share a dish depending on your appetite. The restaurant was bustling on a Sunday early afternoon, but the wait staff remained friendly and attentive throughout our visit. A good breakfast option, but note those with dietary preference of vegan, probably not the spot you'd want to visit. No GF specific options but some dishes could be made so. read more

Breakfast review. Brekkie is served all day and there is also a lunch menu. Matt's is still fairly new and located in the epicenter on Ray and Higley so lots of free parking. Inside is open snd spacious, we were greeted right away and told to sit anywhere. Service was good and our waitress was on top of ordering and getting our food to us quickly. * My friend and I came specifically for the eggs Benedict, which they only offer on Thursdays as a part of their weekly special. Love bennies! Another friend told me her husband said they were great. Lucky him bc ours was eh ok. The Canadian bacon and eggs were good. But the homemade hollandaise sauce was light with not much flavor and ya know the sauce is important! But my other friend's avo toast was pretty and yum! Friend said her coffee was meh.. Overall solid brekkie depending on what you order. read more

I've always wanted to try MBB in Scottsdale. I was happy to see they have one in Gilbert, located in the Tyler complex Epicenter. I was happy to see they have an outdoor patio with misters and fans-- great for cooler weather. I was dining solo and decided to sit at the bar... no alcoholic beverages if you're wanting to brunch hard. Matt's offers a different breakfast special; 7 days a week. Their menu is small in comparison to other breakfast spots. I ordered a blueberry lemonade and waffles with peppered bacon. The lemonade was refreshing and not too sweet. My food arrived quicker than I expected. The waffle was nicely browned, crispy and soft on the inside. The bacon was really flavorful and the peppered bacon was a nice contrast. Two of the servers were dueling about which lemonade was better blueberry or strawberry. I was given a sample of the strawberry. I found the strawberry to be too sweet and overpowered the lemonade. I would drink it, but not me first choice. I was told the lemonade or flavored with preserves. I would come back if I was in the area. read more

We stopped in around 12:30 on a Saturday and the dining room was moderately full but was told wherever there was a menu we could sit. We ordered the big papa burrito to share that came filled with beans, chorizo, roasted jalapeño, cheese and large chunks of Yukon gold potato and of course egg. It normally comes smothered but my husband doesn't like his burritos wet. We also ordered a side hash brown and a side avocado. The burrito was stuffed full and there was an even balance of ingredients. The hashbrown was crispy but still thick and soft in the middle. The ranchero sauce was a verde style with a hint of sweet and spice. So good. The restaurant is an open floor plan with indoor and outdoor seating with the outdoor covered and misting fans to keep it cool in Gilbert! The music was playing just loud enough to enjoy but not so you couldn't talk to your table mate! If I could give more then 5 stars I would! read more

This place was busy, but we expected it to be on a Saturday. Once we sat we got our food pretty fast. Our server was medium, I know they were busy and we were on the patio but it was a little too much. We got the big papa burrito and i'm not sure what else but it was really good, fresh. We stopped by for brunch to celebrate a friends birthday and I was excited to try this place out after seeing so many great reviews.... We walked in and we were quickly greeted by someone behind the counter. She told us to pick any table we wanted and so we did just that. We sat down and looked over the menu. The menu to my surprise was small and did not have too many options to choose from. The drink selection was also small so we ended up getting water. We all ordered something different to eat. One chicken sandwich, one huevos rancheros, one Biltmore club sandwich, one side of griddlecakes, and I had the Hog and Chick. The food didn't take too long and it was brought out by a different lady then the one who took our drink orders. Three plates were brought out first and mine was last to come out. Our waters kept getting refilled by a different person and he was very nice. Right after we got our food, another different gentleman came over and asked us how we were doing. At this time we were fine since we had just received our food. After that, neither of our two original servers checked up on us. We saw them helping out other tables but we were skipped. There were a few things that we needed but it seemed to be like we were being ignored. The food was ok. Nothing impressive. My breakfast potatoes and eggs were bland. I basically poured the whole bottle of pepper and salt to give them some flavor. The bacon was decent. The Biltmore club and the chicken sandwich were the only good plates. The huevos rancheros were a pass, not what was expected. We finished eating and a different lady came over and grabbed our plates without saying anything else. Then one of the original servers finally approached us when she had seen we were done and she quickly came over with the eft machine for payment. The only words that came out of her mouth was when she rudely waved the machine in our faces and asked us whose card it was when it was time to input the "tip." Out total came out to be about $85 with a tip. This place is definitely not worth that price. The food is average and the service was horrible. This is a pass for me. The inside mural is super cute though and so is the presentation of the tables. read more

Met up with some friends over the Memorial Day weekend. We didn't have to wait for a table. Staff was really friendly and served quickly. The food was delicious!! Loved the bacon and hash browns my favorite part of the meal. I highly recommend! read more
