Well it's taken me 18 years to make it to Matt's Big Breakfast. The new Gilbert location is close to me and today, I tried it! Wife & met my daughter there. First impression, there's a BIG door that you easily open to step inside the Magical, Merry world of Matt's Big Breakfast. We were greeted before we fully set foot inside by at least two happy to see us staff, then greeted across the room by several more all making us feel welcomed, like long lost family, VIP's or we owed them money and had come to pay up. They serve their customers team style. Which means you will encounter several different HAPPY to see you staff members all with one goal, to provide you with amazing customer care, food service and feeling like you are their most important customer. And it's authentic. Our first staff encounter was with Ernie, a great guy who got us coffee & took time to explain in great detail the specials & that we could ask ANY staff for anything we needed. (I LOVE THE TEAM CONCEPT AND THAT THEY ALL WORK TOGETHER FOR THE GOOD OF THE CUSTOMER) Now the food. It's plentiful and delicious. Attention to detail is obvious. They use THE BEST of everything available locally when possible. Once you get your first pour of coffee it's YOUR fault if your cup ever gets low or empty. They are ON IT with refills. I enjoyed the Tuesday special, gravy & biscuits, hash browns & two scrambled eggs. The rich color of the scrambled eggs left no doubt the eggs used are cage free and tasty. The sausage gravy was loaded with pieces of real Sage sausage. (I prefer no sage, but that's my personal choice, it was FANTASTIC) I knew when I ordered it there was sage flavor, but my love for good sausage & gravy over biscuits had me order it. And it was so good & the biscuits soft & flaky. Yes, I'd order it again..and again...and again! The hash browns were not like any other I have tasted. They are made with fresh cut potatoes, fried hard on both sides and...well, let your staff member explain the details to you, better than I can. Wife & Daughter had pancakes with real Vermont maple syrup, both VERY good. The home fries they shared were also flavorful and plentiful. We had a great visit at our table with the other half of Matt's big breakfast, his wife Ernie. She shared her story of how they started & some other interesting tales. She was just down home friendly & pleasant. Her love for customer care, quality food & treating staff like family was very obvious. And the price points to me, sat in the middle of what I expected to pay for its location, new buildout and current economy. That shows me that these owners have chosen to respect their history, their customers & their reputation of serving QUALITY food, LARGE portions, EXCELLENT customer service ALL at a very fair price. Well done EVERYONE at Matt's Big Breakfast in Gilbert, We'll be back! read more
