Went here to eat for Sunday breakfast with my wife and our daughter. It was a short wait, although the waiting room isn't much of a waiting area, so may be uncomfortable if there's a long wait. We sat down and then our waitress (one of many it seemed) took our drink and breakfast order. We had the big papa burrito, the griddlecakes, and the waffle & bacon. For me, the Big Papa Burrito was the winner, but others were good seconds. I usually eat this type of burrito with just chorizo, eggs, and potatoes, so the added pinto beans, jalapeños, and enchilada sauce were really great additions! I tried some of the waffle and pancakes with the maple syrup and those were really good as well. We mainly got served by another waiter who took care of our refills and brought our orders out. Our 1st waitress comes back to bring the bill. This must be typical of smaller restaurants, but for some reason, I don't like the whole sticking your card and the waitress standing there while you enter your tip. Also, it defaults to 25% tip, but I ain't paying that just cause. I need to be very impressed for that, not just have it automatic. Overall, I'd say it was a good restaurant. Roughly with food and drink, it's about $20/person. If that's within your range, nice little breakfast spot in the Agritopia community. read more

Matt's Big Breakfast is a great way to start the day. The place is bright and cherry and the servers are great. You had a lot of food on your plate. The potatoes are delish! read more

Side of Maple Syrup costs $2.00. That should be a good enough explanation on why to not come here. Matt's Big Disappointment! Food was over cooked and mediocre at best. Portions were not big and you can't alter anything on the menu. Everything was also VERY overpriced. Will not be returning and telling everyone not to waste their time or money. read more

Good service, nice layout and food is fresh but extremely lacking in flavor. Not worthy of the hype.

Not as many Mexican options for breakfast but tasty options nonetheless Extremely friendly staff, quick service and enjoyable atmosphere. read more

My husband and I went today for the first time, after hearing what a great place it is in Phoenix. The food, served in very large portions, tasted great and had fresh herbs sprinkled on the potatoes. The bacon was top shelf quality and cooked just right! Our waitress was attentive and very helpful in guiding us to what we wanted. Other employees, as well as our waitress, checked to make sure our beverages were replenished and our needs were met. We'll eat outdoors when the weather is a tad warmer. It's covered and in a great location. Highly recommend Matt's! read more

Friendly staff and the food is top notch. We've been eating at Matt's for over 15 years and the Gilbert location still delivers all the best in food, experience and service. read more

We tried the steak and eggs, chop and chick, and big papa burrito. Everything was solid, service was great, and feel of the restaurant was quite nice. The food, being the most important thing, is the only aspect I will nitpick a bit. The steak was well cooked (medium rare), though the quality of cut or clean left something to be desired - I had to dispose of 3 bites back whence it came since it was tough. The hash browns were a bit lacking in flavor and oily. read more

Tasty breakfast with high-quality food, delicious fresh made food from scratch, high quality, locally sourced, though there wasn't a dedicated server. read more

The location is nice, the dining area mostly clean, and the people were pleasant enough tho not particularly attentive. The food was just OK with some things standing out as great and others just mediocre. We each had the special which was Eggs Benedict. Two eggs poached, on Pork Shop Canadian bacon, a toasted English muffin, served with Hollandaise and green onion, with a choice of potatoes. So let's get to it. The eggs were not cooked perfectly. Not under poached with liquid egg white but a touch over cooked. They were adequate I guess is a good description. Still some liquid yolk but over poached and hardening. The Canadian bacon from Pork Shop was delicious. The Hollandaise was very thin but had a pretty good flavor. My son had his with hash brown and I had mine with country potatoes. Mine arrived with a pool of oil under the potatoes telling me they were either reheated in oil or sitting in a container for serving. My sons hash browns also had oil but much less. We also tried a side of wheat toast with butter that was homemade, delicious, and served with real strawberry preserves. My son had two orange juices. I had one iced tea. The pricing was very high for what we received at $54 before tip. For two simple breakfasts that is expensive. And to have the server hand me a digital device to pay our tab that had the highest tip value preselected didn't go unnoticed. That is pretty poor form. Really? I saw you once. That doesn't equal a $19 tip. In short? There are better places out there, delivered by more attentive staff, cooked with more care for quality, and likely $10-$15 cheaper. read more

Average food. Was not impressed. Huge portions though. Probably enough for two people. Just bare minimum breakfast.

They've done it again! The same great food and friendly, prompt service that they are known for at their other spots in a beautiful new space at Epicenter in Gilbert. Bright and airy atmosphere, plenty of parking, and as always the best breakfast in the southwest. Get there soon because as soon as the word is out that the Gilbert location is open it's going to be the place to be on the east side! read more

My friend enjoyed it. I just expected more on the menu based on the name of the place and it just didn't meet my expectations.

This review is on the service solely. While the food did not live up to the original experience at the Phx location, I have to say the service by Courtney was outstanding. Great customer service. read more

Great quality food and wonderful customer service. Let's start with the food. We ordered a pancake stack for the kids with three eggs and I tried a daily special that was comprised of scrambled eggs, chorizo, jalapeño and included a side of potatoes and toast. Everything was flavorful. They even make their preserves (blueberries at the time) in house. It all tasted great and fresh. The pancakes were very large and filling. I felt the egg portions were small. I might be used to XL eggs and forget the size of large eggs. I also felt the passion fruit ice tea was bland. My wife thought their coffee was great. Customer service was great but not due to everything going smoothly but how they turned my experience around. The short story of where I felt things went wrong was my order was put in late. There were 2-3 tables whose orders were out before mine that clearly shouldn't have been. Of course the family was becoming wrestles. I made a mention to the staff and my food was out very quickly with an apology . Then to no fault of the restaurant my 7 year old son poured salt all over the eggs to the point they were ruined. In my son's defense the salt shaker does pour fast. However one of the staff saw the situation including me becoming upset with him. Without a word from me she had put a fresh order of eggs in. I was very appreciative. We will be back. Notes to the establishment on the tipping system. The preset tips jump from 18% to 25%. That is too much of a jump and we did not bother trying to do math with kids ready to go. Do we defaulted to 18% versus 20%. read more

I was surprised at the limited menu. I didn't think there were a lot of options for breakfast. We did have breakfast here. The food was satisfactory but I don't think we'll go back here. read more

Wanted to go out for much and first stop at the Beer Barn but they don't serve food so my husband and I went next doo to Matt's Big Breakfast and saw they were open til 2 and had a lunch menu. We were greeted promptly and told to sit wherever we wanted. Our waitress came over, took our order and that was the 1 and only time we saw her.....except to hand us our receipt. I ordered the tossed Chop Salad, minus the bacon and eggs and my husband ordered the grilled chicken sandwich. Both were disappointing. My salad was barely bigger than a side dinner salad and cost $14.49. Much of the lettuce was wilted and some with brown spots. My husband's sandwich had so much pesto that the bun was soggy. He ordered the macaroni and cheese instead of chips and said it was not good. A gentleman came over to check on us, he didn't identify himself as a manager or owner so not quite sure who he was. I told him about the lettuce and at first I didn't think he cared as he just left. Then he came back and said he appreciated the feed back and took a little off our bill I definitely will not go back for lunch, and I'm not sure if I'll go for breakfast. For breakfast the ambiance is fine. read more

came here for the first time with some coworkers for brunch. service was friendly. i got The Skinny ($15.99). first noticing, i was very disappointed with the portion size. the egg scramble itself (egg whites, spinach, sausage) was less than half the plate. the other half of the plate was filled with just plain greens on the side. the scramble was watery and bland. definitely not worth the price in my opinion. read more

We had been at the Matt's Big Breakfast downtown in Phoenix and was very happy to find this restaurant in the east valley. The restaurant menu was smaller then I remember but they had everything that we could want. What is so neat is that all the wait staff helps everyone. One gets you coffee another making sure your order has been taken. someone else bringing you your meal. No one is sitting around in the corner. We had the delightful honor of meeting Ernie the waiter and also Ernie the owner. Ernie the waiter was wonderful and answered lots of questions we had. They have an outside seating area and only service dogs are allowed. (hoping that will change since we take our dog out to eat with us when we can. All 95 lbs. of him) Okay down to the food but first I got a tip when you are ready to order put your menu down sideways and someone will be there in seconds. Okay maybe minutes but not more than 5 minutes. Coffee was good but just a little bit bitter I had the blueberry pancakes and oh my goodness it was wonderful. Doug had build your own omelet which he really enjoyed. He loves his omelets!! After we were completely full, I couldn't even finish my Pancakes. We sat and talked for about an 1/2 drinking more coffee. Even though this place was crowded we never felt rushed. Will we come back. You bet. read more

We heard of this new location but Omg, todays brunch date was so bad. ): yikes. Service was terrible. Other than the super sweet hostess I didn't catch his name and one of the servers were so rude. Brooklyn was better than the other one. The flies landing on my food every two seconds was ugh. The table was wobbly and spilt the coffee all over before they came to fix it once's we asked them to. the food was COLD. Pancakes were also darkkkk and dry. The coffee was good at least. The food all came out at different times while still being cold. Flagging down a server was so uncomfortable and difficult. You don't get designated a server so they all are like assuming the other server has checked on us... which leads to no service at all. Lastly, The death stare the server gave me when I was swiping my card to pay... I have never seen anything like it. (It was kinda funny but also like... girl you're going to get your tip. Calm down) like look up and pretend to look at the birds or something don't make it so weird. Haha read more

We ordered the Biscuits and Gravy and the Big Papa Burrito, which were both just okay. Both meals had eggs in them which were nothing special, and the burrito was a little plain in the flavor department. We thought the best thing was the biscuits and gravy, even though the hash browns that accompanied them were a bit too crispy and not quite salty enough. Not upset that I came here but probably won't be back, in the end I can find better food in the area for the same price or cheaper. Cute location, service was great, just didn't think the food was anything special. read more

Had the Griddlecakes and the are one of the best I ever had. Service was great. Ambience was good

I've been here for breakfast on a Saturday a couple of times now and Matt's is officially on my go-to list. The service here is incredible. The staff are so friendly and attentive and genuinely care about your experience. That alone puts Matt's at the top of my list. Menu has a lot of choices, food is served hot and fresh. I've had The Skinny both times-good flavor and ample serving size. Indoor and outdoor dining both work well. On a a 90 degree morning the outside breezeway patio was very comfortable with misters going. Great spot for breakfast! read more

My dad and I were on our way to Joe's Farm Grill after church one Sunday and when pulling in to the parking lot I saw MBB and decided to give it a try since we'd never been. The first big disappointment was the hour and a half wait time with a completely empty patio (wasn't being serviced). The second, and probably most important disappointment was the food. Breakfast is by far my favorite meal of the day and MBB (at least this location) was a major let down. If a "breakfast" place doesn't know the difference between sunny side up vs. over easy eggs (yes, there is a difference) and is okay with serving you extremely runny egg whites.. well then this isn't the place for me. I always feel you can easily judge a restaurants worthiness by asking yourself "could I have made it better?" And for this one.. YES.. I already do make a better breakfast than what we were served at MBB Gilbert. read more

This is a tough one because I give their Thursday eggs Benedict special a 10/10, but their country potatoes a 2. Let's start with the eggs bennie....the hollandaise sauce was the best I've ever had. On the 'today's special' board they describe it as 'creamy' and that's 100% accurate. Silky smooth with a flavor that makes me want to put it on everything. There was no trace of it when I was finished....slobbered it all up! The English muffins were perfectly toasted and held up well the the hollandaise and egg moisture keeping their slight crunchiness. The only downside was I asked to substitute the Canadian bacon with country sausage and was told the best they could do was a side of the sausage. The country potatoes were typical of what I don't like about them in restaurants......the cubed potato pieces were way too large. I prefer them diced which makes them much crisper closer to French fries rather than pieces of baked potato. All this said, don't let my country potato experience keep you from eating here. If you prefer the same kind I do, just go with the hash browns instead. The country breakfast sausage was 9.2/10 as well. This is a scratch made kitchen and the food shows it. I don't live anywhere near this place, but if I did, it would be my 'go to' breakfast choice. Their lunch options I saw served looked pretty awesome as well. read more

Terrible in every way. Overpriced terrible parking bland food tasteless sausages no soft drinks said they dont have tomato juice because they don't have a liquor license?? eggs were dry bun was flaky burger was overcooked no french fries- I mean you serve burgers but no fries With all the actual good breakfast places in town, this is a miss and a no need to return. We had about 5 different "servers" With tip was over $75 for two of us. NOWHERE near worth the money. Low quality-not what I remembered from the original in Scottsdale. read more

I really love MBB and have been a LONG time fan of the company all the way back to the days of the original small downtown location. That being said I think the only issues I have with this location is service related, as the food is the same great food I have known and love. The service here (and other locations) is a team serve, where there is no assigned service sections and everyone is responsible for everything. While I think this model has some benefits I believe the size of this location and maybe the new leadership has some work to do to hone this style of service. It seems the staff is running around like they're chickens with their heads cut off sometimes. We were asked multiple times by different people for drinks when we first sat down despite having already ordered them. There doesn't seem to be a way the staff communicates to each other when this happens. Additionally, they don't have carrying trays so these poor servers are having to make multiple trips for a single table (not very efficient). There were several times where we had to request refills from the team. Again, everyone is suppose to being doing everything but it seems there are gaps and no accountability for this method. The food came out in an appropriate time for the crowd and quality was top notch! I have had most items on the menu over the years but absolutely love their waffles and the salami scramble and fond myself struggling to order something else. The pork chops and burrito are always amazing as well. Cannot forget the Pork Shop bacon and the fact we can continue to support great local businesses. I will be a patron of this place moving forward, I would really like to see them improve the service aspect and maybe make it feel a little more personable and less like we are being heard through. This is STILL a place EVERYONE needs to try though! read more

Such a fun atmosphere; light and bright and very inviting! When we entered, someone called out a greeting to us and told us to sit wherever we wanted. We came for breakfast and the menu is small but has some cool options. We got the Biscuits & Sausage Gravy (the Tuesday Special), the Hog & Chick, Blueberry Griddlecakes, Pumpkin Griddlecakes, and the fresh OJ which was amazing. The griddlecakes were big and fluffy, and very flavorful; 10 out of 10! The scrambled eggs were a little runny, the sausage gravy was delicious (sausage on the spicy side) but the biscuit was a little dry. The gravy was thick so maybe if it was thinner or if there was more of it, that could've helped the biscuit. The bacon is super thick cut and not at all crispy, which isn't a downside to some, but not my favorite. The hashbrowns were unlike any I've had before (see the picture) and at first I didn't like them. But after a second try I decided I did! We thought the service was great. Our server was on top of things and very friendly. So why 4 stars? The prices are pretty high (see picture of menu) for a good but not amazing breakfast. read more
