This is a quaint breakfast and brunch restaurant that offers locally sourced ingredients, including their delicious coffee beans. This is a place to go that feels welcoming and gives you the "Cheers" vibe where "everybody knows your name." The service is fast, and the food is hot! This is our go to for breakfast.
I've heard good things about this place and was finally in the area to check it out! It was a Saturday morning around 10a, and it was busy, but we didn't have to wait more than 5 minutes for a seat. They had two areas for seating, one of which was outdoors-ish. The ambiance was classic/modern and colorful. Multiple people took care of us and I think it's all team tips and such. We'd said we needed a few minutes to look at the menu, but then it took them a while to come back for our order. I was expecting more options on the menu, but it was pretty standard breakfast options. No fancy coffees or foods. They also serve lunch and breakfast is available all day. What food we did order was very good. The Christopher's favorite was very flavorful, I liked the crispy hash browns cooked into the burrito. The pumpkin pancakes were also delicious, perfect for the time of year!
Food was pretty good. The service was excellent and they were very friendly and super nice. Will return soon.
08/31/2025 It's hard to believe I had never been to MBB until now. I met up with a friend here for brunch on a Sunday at around 10:30am. They were busy, but the staff moved quick and a two-seat table was available within a few minutes. I went with "The Basics" ($12.29) - two eggs any style, choice of potatoes (home fries or hash browns), and toast with homemade preserves. My friend got "The Hog & Chick" ($14.49) which is The Basics plus choice of bacon or sausage. She insisted that I try the bacon, and it was so good, cooked perfectly and crispy. My over easy eggs and home fries were delicious. The sourdough was thick, toasted, and tasty. I like that they cook with only the good stuff - real butter and extra virgin olive oil. Every staff member we interacted with was so friendly and courteous. I'm definitely adding MBB to my brunch rotation!
There is no false advertising at Matt's "Big Breakfast," you are well-fed here! I ordered the Hog & Chick breakfast with bacon and home fries. As you will see from the photo, the plate was straining to hold it all, accompanied by a thick piece of rye toast. Eggs were cooked perfectly! Everything was served hot and in a timely manner. Our server was great and we enjoyed breakfast on their nice patio. My only regret is that it it's been over a year since I hit up one of the Matt's BB locations!
The location is clean with great outdoor seating. The decor is plain and simple. Nothing special. The staff have always been great and professional. The food though, breakfast perfection. Ok full disclosure I always order the chop and chick or steak and eggs. I absolutely love these dishes. The pork chop is one of the best I've ever had. If you need a brunch place with excellent proteins....this is the place.
We went here a while ago. This place was mediocre in our opinion. I got steak and eggs and the steak tasted like a really low quality steak. Which I get it, I believe it was the happy hour or the daily special. I guess if you're gonna do a special with steak you lower the quality. The hash browns definitely needed to be cooked longer, too soft. The OJ was good! Didn't really enjoy the steak enough to come back.
Our first time at this location...have been to the downtown location several times over the years. As we walked in, we were told to find our own seats. After looking around (they weren't busy at this moment), we choose a table closer over to the kitchen and their view window. I always love sitting near the chef's watching them prep and cook. They have a daily special and today was my favorite, eggs benedict. I actually waivered back and forth between this and their pork chop and eggs but ultimately went with the server choice of the benedict. You don't get a dedicated server, they are roaming and everything is there to help and support you, keep drinks coming, serving, etc. Wife choose The Hog & Chick, their version of a basic eggs/bacon or sausage, and toast breakfast. She didn't specify which potatoes and it came with your classic shredded hash browns which was cooked well, crispy on the outside and tender and soft in the center. She asked for the sausage patties, which had a slight kick to them. The dish comes with a slice of their thick sourdough toast and that most delicious home-made strawberry jam. A wonderful, tasty dish! I want to get back to my breakfast...I specifically asked for the home fries and what a disappointment. Yes, I probably could have sent them back but didn't. My biggest issue...they were so, so greasy. I loved the caramelized onions and the bits of rosemary but overall, just way to greasy for me. I did like their hollandaise sauce, although it also needed more lemon flavor. I had the poached eggs and they were cooked to perfection. Ok and lastly, I just want to say that I was a bit concerned with some of the hygiene I witnessed while sitting and watching both the server's area and the chefs in the kitchen. Had an environmental specialist been present, there most likely would have been some writing up. Things like...new server enters space, places both of her cups on the counter, punches in, pulls her hair back into a ponytail, moves her cups off to the side and goes to work. No handwashing observed. In the kitchen I watched a couple of servers and chefs touch hair, face, pull up pants, etc. and continue to cut, chop, serve. Bare hands observed while prepping including a pulling up of pants, the push back of the side hairs and then reaching over, peeling and slicing a banana and putting the pieces bare-handed into a bowl for serving. When you are in the moment, these actions happen without realizing it but as a customer watching...not Kosher. I asked about their outdoor patio area...it's not pet friendly so wanted to share that.
Came in for brunch with a friend and was expecting a long wait but was seated immediately! I had been to the Matt's in DTPHX and I had been meaning to check out their new Gilbert location. The service here was warm and friendly from the moment we walked in. I love that they have breakfast staples and lunchy and brunchy options such as their grilled chicken sandwich which was dee-licious. I'm a sucker for a good cold brew and although you may not think good cold brew comes in a can this one was delicious and very strong!
Matt's is my husband's favorite breakfast place. It is always clean and bright in this space and every worker we have ever had contact with has been welcoming and chipper. I usually get the Avocado Toast. My husband loves the fluffy, fresh blueberry pancakes. We come early (think 7-ish on a weekday) and it is usually pretty chill then.
We've been to Matt's Big Breakfast in Gilbert many times and it's quite frankly hit or miss. Having gone to their original location in Phoenix for years prior to the Gilbert location opening, we've noticed a lot of inconveniences here. Matt's is obviously a very popular spot, especially on the weekends. During the more popular brunch hours, there's usually an hour-ish wait; they do have outdoor seating for cooler months, which is nice. We've had quite a few items from their menu. I've liked the waffle and griddle cakes the most. If you're looking for something more spicy, their breakfast burrito is good. The reason for 3 stars is because there have been times the eggs were dry/overcooked, same with the potatoes where they crisped too much, burnt bread, and so on. Other times everything has been perfect. We used to go here more often previously, but it isn't our favorite anymore. Also not a fan of the wait, given that the food may not be worth it.
This place reminds me of going to a family member's house and the comfort it brings to be around your loved ones. To be honest, when I first came here it just seemed like a normal breakfast sport with kind people working, like a mom and pop shop. However the more I kept coming, the more I started to fall in love. The food is always consistently good and the service makes me feel like we've all been friends forever. Being here is so comforting and homey. I love how not one person is your server and everyone there is happy to help and always checking up. Not only that, I believe most of their ingredients are locally sourced ! This has become our go to breakfast spot! We have also been bringing our friends here and everyone loves it. We're trying to get their daily specials each day but so far have only gotten the Fri-Sun meals. Looks like i gotta leave work early these days to reach my goal of trying everything on the menu!
Very friendly service and a quaint atmosphere. Portions are large and very hearty. Good flavor with a grilled jalapeño. Bacon was a little too crispy for my taste but has great flavor. Be warned if you are looking for chicken fried steak or biscuits and gravy this is not the place for you. It's not one menu as a regular.

The pancakes were delicious but unfortunately, nothing else that we ordered would draw us to come back. To sum it up, the food was just OK because it lacked flavoring and was pretty bland food in a hipster atmosphere. Our family of 4 ordered several items from the menu and unfortunately nothing stood out to make us want to come back especially for a tab of $72 for brunch (two adults and two kids). We came on Saturday afternoon around 1 PM and were quoted a 10 minute wait which was about accurate. Once we were seated and ordered it took about 20 minutes for the food to come out. We had the big butter burger, bacon, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, the meal with two sausage patties with two eggs over easy and home fries, a side of bacon, a blueberry pancakes, a regular pancake, fresh squeezed lemonade, fresh squeezed apple juice, and coffee with the only option of whole milk in it. read more

Having been to the Matt's Big Breakfast in downtown Phoenix when it first opened, I was super stoked to hear one was headed to the East Valley. Expect the usually learning curve when new spots open, but their staff seemed up to par and busy. I will preface that I had enjoyed the OG downtown location! But for the newly opened Gilbert spot, I love the overall location, easy parking, EV charging stations, and bold signage to Id the place from the road. You can't go wrong with anything that's slated for Epicenter! The interior has a modern farmhouse vibe with a cool art mural repping Gilbert, with the main entry of the restaurant from the south. A communal table aligns the west part of the restaurant, and a bar seating area along the west facing the large windows that look out into the covered outdoor area. Because it's fairly new, plan for a wait, no advance reservations, and the space is small, not hole in the wall small, but it had about 4 rows of 4-5 quantity 2-4 tops, so unless they can snag a bunch of those tables to put together, not ideal for super large group over 10.... You'll find a loud and busy vibe, even for a Sunday AM bite. Even for a semi large group of 6, we were told 30-40 minute wait but we were seated with only a short maybe 10 minute wait., since a party before us was a no show (Thank you!) Host was super friendly and overall service was good up until getting our food. Don't get me wrong. I'm not one to want someone hounding on me while I eat, and their communal service concept helps cover ground and expedite I'm sure. But our coffee was only offered for refills once and I had to ask someone for water refills when we were close to checking out and had finished our food. The orange juice isn't worth it, unless your wanting a shot of fresh squeeze. The food is good, but unfortunately my lower rating is a result of inconsistencies. Not only with the drink refills but all the hash brown orders we had 5 total on our table as part of side items were varying degrees of either unseasoned to super salty. There is also no kids menu!!!!!! How do you have a breakfast spot in suburban, family friendly Gilbert, and not have a kids menu!? I know, I know, Matt's isn't known for a kids menu, but maybe it's time to reconsider.... The space is KIND of on the small side, don't get me wrong there's high tops, mixed size tables and flex so they can accommodate a group but because we got there on a rainy day, people were cramming against the mural wall waiting for their table, with maybe 1-2' from the people sitting along the high top communal table. Glad we weren't sitting there! There's no real "waiting area" but maybe that's what they were anticipating outside is for?? Again the weather didn't help as the large entry door kept swinging open with all the foot traffic that it caused large gusts of cold to sweep through the restaurant area/tables closest to the entry. If you can swing it, maybe wait another week or so for this place to hype down and get their consistency in order. I will say though my griddle cakes with Vermont syrup was delicious and I liked the coffee as well. My husband had the pastrami omelet and that too was just too salty... hmm seems like a trend... read more

Hashbrowns were mushy in the middle, as soon as I cut my omelette open grease pooled onto my plate and it wasn't appetizing or presented well at all. Orange juice has crushed seeds in it. Wasn't busy on a Saturday morning for a reason. read more

Decided to try this spot for breakfast since I've heard good things, food and service was ok. Ordered the cheese omelette and homefries but the server must not have felt that I was worthy, I received hash browns instead. Didn't see and wasn't offered hot sauce which was disappointing. Experience was just ok. read more

Firstly, this new Gilbert MBB lived up to its name as far as big portions better than Phoenix which was great! The location is lovely surrounded by other awesome businesses. Although the place was busy, we were seated quickly. Our server was so informative and had great character! Our food was 3/5! I would return for sure to try something else. Personally, my father and I agreed the potatoes were lacking in flavor and slightly undercooked. On both plates. And the big papa burrito was actually quite good and has a lot of potential. The enchilada sauce is only a little sweet. And please more chorizo on it read more

I had seen Matt's Big Breakfast before and also heard some reviews from people around town. I was over at the SugarPlum Festival at the Potato Barn location in Mesa with my son, when we became famished. It was still early enough that breakfast would be served at pretty much any establishment. I was at the point where hunger was really going to dictate where we went. The closest location to where we were. It was Matt's BB. Done! I had been to this plaza before where the Tyler Apts are and a few other locations. My husband and I had a date night a few doors down at Undertow (totally rad place BTW). Parking was plentiful and very easy. I walked in and I could tell the place was very, very busy. It looked like there were a lot of people waiting to be seated and not many people working there. A very nice gentleman who was running around in circles, trying to please everyone, came over and took our names. He said it would be about a 25 to 30 minute wait. I wasn't going to leave and try to find another place at this point so I put in my name and then I realized seats were opening up at the bar. My son and I sat down at the bar and we were greeted right away by the bartender, who is so kind. Really nice to my 2 1/2 year-old son. He took our drink orders right away. My son ordered a fresh squeezed orange juice and I had one of the Rishi English breakfast teas, which came in a cute mug with a lemon wedge and a side pot of (Costco) honey, I saw him pour it. My son was happy about the honey. It actually held us over because we waited for almost an hour for our food. The place was so busy. We actually left and went next-door and my son played with toys for a little while, that's how long it took, they were very busy, but they did their best. I ordered the Skinny which is salad, eggwhite, and chicken apple sausage in a scramble, and my son ordered the avocado toast, as is, no poached egg. The portions are reasonable, the prices are reasonable to high, and the environment is fun. There's indoor and outdoor seating. The food didn't blow my mind. The avocado toast I would order again. I liked that it had tomatoes and sprouts on it, it was healthy for my son and the bread was delicious. I really did not like mine. I didn't like the dressing on the salad. It was 95% lettuce and overcooked eggs and the chicken apple sausage just wasn't good. I would not recommend ordering the skinny. It looks good on paper and my son seemed to enjoy his avocado toast. We ordered the big Papa burrito from my husband, to-go. It was heavy to carry home, that's how big it was. Very spicy, but he seemed to like it too. read more

Such a wonderful addition to the East Valley! Matt's Big Breakfast in Gilbert is such a treat. You can tell they really care about the ingredients they source for all their made-from-scratch dishes. Big shoutout to the orange juice... it was DELICIOUS and so fresh. We love getting their daily special, it's always some sort of egg scramble on the weekend and it always hits the spot. I split blueberry pancakes with my daughter and they were...yum. The staff was really friendly and attentive and very random but a big shoutout to the family-friendly bathrooms. Will definitely be back! read more

As advertised! We came into town for a tournament. Needed to start the day off with a full tank. The food is fresh and plenty. Service is great. We sat outside they came and fixed a wobbly table. That never happens! They have a few locations in the valley so I wont shy away. I'll be back read more

The inside of this restaurant is so cute. The yellow walls make it so bright and cheerful. My husband got eggs, bacon and hash browns. He asked for onions and peppers on his hashbrowns and after they checked to see if it could be done they said yes but it is $1 each. That seems expensive for that $2 for both! He ended up not really caring for it very much either so didn't eat it. I got waffle and bacon and mine was good. If I were in town, I don't think I would stop back into this place due to the fact that there's not much on the menu that I would eat, especially when another place is right next-door and I just got done eating there two days ago and absolutely loved it. read more

This is our 3rd time coming here. Every single time, the food has been AMAZING!! We were able to get seated right away all 3 times which is not common in Gilbert. Sunday's special is steak and eggs which my boyfriend got today. He shared some of his steak and WOW! So tender and flavorful for only $20!! Can't beat that price! He ordered his steak medium and it was cooked to perfection. Tasted like an expensive steakhouse and you would've never know it was sirloin. You also can't go wrong with their traditional breakfast which is what I got. The "home fries" are anything but bland. Not sure what that other reviewer was talking about. Those potatoes are seasoned perfectly with rosemary and onions. Chef's kiss! You can actually taste the rosemary in every bite. No need to drown it in salt and pepper unless your tastebuds are fried. The meals we ordered are not even close to mediocre. I mean just look at that bacon. You can taste that the food was made with love. I'd like to know where all the people who gave bad reviews are eating breakfast at. Don't order a Spanish dish here and then compare it to a Mexican restaurant because it's NOT a Mexican restaurant. The ambiance is modern but yet comfortable. Very cute inside! It is a little loud in there but so are many other breakfast spots in Gilbert. You can find quiet seating in the corner of the restaurant if you'd like though. They also play good music. The prices are very reasonable especially for the quality of food you're getting. The staff and manager Erik are also wonderful. All very friendly. I saw other reviews about the service. I don't think Matt's has your traditional server platform like other restaurants. It's very common for multiple people to come up to your table here to bring your food, see how everything is going, and even to bring the check. Highly highly recommend!! Stop going to these overrated, overpriced restaurants and give Matt's a try. read more

We've been coming here since they opened in Agritopia. No matter what we order, everything is delicious. We've tried the boss burrito which was amazing and the breakfast sandwiches. Bacon is always thick and delicious! My service animal is always welcome in with a smile. Love this place and highly recommend for service, food, cleanliness and friendliness!! A bit on the higher end for price, but it's worth it for me based on all of the above! read more
