    27. Tempura Plate
    Marianne C.

Had the Tempura Plate at Matsui inside Mitsuwa Marketplace's food court. It consisted of shrimp (2) as well as assorted veggie tempura, steamed rice, and miso soup. Everything was made to order and the portion was quite a bang for your buck. It is a solid spot, aswell as quick. The meal was very satisfying I would certainly comeback again to try their ramen and other Japanese dishes sometime.

I bought the pork katsu set expecting pork katsu, but it came out looking absolutely rancid and when I politely went to ask to switch it out, the owner was harsh in tone and said that this is how it is supposed to be. Glad to know I was supposed to gag and received something that is unlike any respectable katsu. And when I looked to the picture on the menu, I was spoken to as if I am an idiot and told that it's supposed to be deceiving. I will not be coming back since this is how customers are treated with even the slightest sign of not liking the food.

Out of all the food stands at Mitsuwa, Matsui is my favorite. I've been eating here since we first moved down to Dallas in 2019, and the quality hasn't changed. COVID-19 made a lot of the stands close down at Mitsuwa, but Matsui stayed strong during that time. They have a glass display of what the dishes look like (similar to what you see in Japan), and the portions are pretty big. I don't think their prices increased much in the last 3 years, which is why I still love to eat here. I usually get a small pork katsu don combo, and it comes with either cold soba noodles or hot udon soup. The price is like $13 after taxes and I have a bit of leftovers to take home. If you want some curry, get it on the side for $3. Ours came in a pretty big bowl and it was enough to feed 3 people. Overall, this is definitely one of the more solid spots in Mitsuwa if you want to dine at the food court.

Nestled in the food court of Mitsuwa market is a small food stall serving up some delicious katsu and curry. I got the Pork Katsu curry spicy, it also comes witha. small miso soup. I would say this is homestyle japanese cooking done well. The katsu was crispy, hot and fresh. Super tender and not overcooked. The curry was flavorful although I would have preferred even more spice. The miso soup was standard, and taste good. Overall a great option for a quick bite after you're done shopping.

I honestly think that this place was really good. The katsu curry was very tasty and the takoyaki was super delicious. I am definitely going to be returning here for their food. It was fast and the person taking my order was quick and polite. The food court is completely clean and nicely arranged. Great spot!

Since this restaurant is in a food court, there's no table service, and the ambiance is just what you'd expect from a typical Japanese food court. The pork chops were perfectly crispy, though a bit lean for my taste--I personally prefer a fattier cut. That said, it was still a great lunch, and the fried oysters were equally delicious. I'd definitely come back for another meal!

Pork katsu curry, soba noodles, Four Piece Takoyaki

I was at mitsuwa for some shopping, and decided to go try something out in the food court. We decided to try out matsui because I was craving soba noodles. There was a great lunch weekday deal that had soba noodles and a curry together which went to about 14$ which was a steal! I got the pork katsu curry and the katsu was the perfect crispiness, and the curry was very flavorful. The soba noodles were so good and refreshing I really enjoyed this entire meal. I added on an order of the 4 piece takoyaki and that was pretty good too! I will definitely be back here if I'm here in the area and wanting an affordable meal.

The older gentleman at the counter was really sweet, or maybe he was just old and I love old people (': service was quick I think the portion was a little small for the $14 that I paid It was hearty and flavorful but a little too salty. Your sodium level will skyrocket after this meal lol if it was less salty I would've loved it. I liked that it had a lot of veggies, helped with the saltiness

Pork Katsu Curry and Hot Udon Noodle Lunch Special

Matsui has my favorite classic pork katsu with curry in the DFW area. They are remarkably consistent with their food quality, taste, and portions. Always freshly fried to a beautiful crispy golden brown. Always an adequate amount of meat. Lots of rice, hot and tasty noodles. The list goes on. Please give Matsui a try if you are in the area. You will not be disappointed. As a bonus, their weekday lunch specials are a great value, with a 1/2 serving of the entree and an included bowl of hot/cold udon/soba with rice for the price of a full size entree only. I've gone for lunch about five times at this point and have always left full and satisfied. Outside of standard mealtimes, seating is easy to get, especially around weekday lunchtime. During mealtimes the food court can get pretty busy, so seating may be a challenge. P.S they do have a small additional charge for takeout orders to cover the cost of to-go boxes and utensils. Not a dealbreaker but can be annoying if you aren't anticipating it.

Im so excited to have found this food hall! The store front reminds me of food shops in Japan. I love zaru udon and its hard to find in the metroplex. I had it with tempura and it was delicious. The pork curry was also delicious. Definitely a great spot.

Flavor is on point. This place knows the difference between tempura and ebi fry! Fast, delicious and reasonable! Love this place for japanese curries as well!

Great food, good prices, fair portions. Love the katsu don and cold udon. Friendly staff. Food comes out about the right amount of time. Usually a lunch rush line.

Udon with mini tempura Donburi combo

Tucked away in the food court in Mitsuwa, Matsui offers Japanese noodle dishes, Donburi, and curry. It may be because I've been living away from Japanese food like this for a while, but Matsui really hit the spot. I thought the food was decent quality and we definitely got our money's worth. I really like the combo options so I can fulfill multiple cravings! They also offer free tea and water which is greatly appreciated :) The dining hall can be a little loud but there's plenty of seating. We'll be returning!

I love their katsu curry rice plates! They're very authentic and they are portioned well. I eat there almost every time I'm in the market.

That's why I'm not entirely sure how they messed it up so badly. We ordered: Chicken meatballs - couldn't tell you how they taste. They ended up grilling us the pork belly instead. Luckily, my child isn't a picky eater and he ate it. Takoyaki - it was ok. Not bad but nothing special Chicken thigh - it was literally a chicken thigh, sliced open with the bone still in and skewered. Not sure why the meat wasn't cut off the bone and then threaded onto the skewer Spam musubi - no sauce, seasoning, or dusting of furikake on the rice. Sliced piece of spam on top wasn't basted either. Teriyaki sauce on the side - this is what really made me want to give a frank review. I didn't think that this meant don't season or baste any of the meat. But apparently, that's what it means. Not only that, but they gave us the spicy teriyaki sauce. I'll take the blame in that I should've tried it before I dipped the meat into it to feed to my child. But I didn't, so he sat there suffering. The dining in portion is part of the open hall concept and everyone is considerate here so that's not an issue. They're lucky that's the case because I would hate to see them trying to also manage bussing and serving tables if they can't even get our order correct. The food also took forever and I don't understand why. We decided that we're never going to be ordering food from here again. I advise that if you choose to, triple check your order when you go to pick it up at the counter. Check every single detail, line by line, and don't leave until you make sure.
