I came here to do some work for a few hours and it was just ok as a work space. There's plenty of space / it wasnt too busy mid-day on Tuesday, and there's outlets available. Wifi was ok, a bit slow but I was able to join a meeting with my camera off. But the tables are all bizarre heights - either way too low or too high to be ergonomically comfortable. Majority of tables are really low so you'd be hunched over, the one large shared high table puts your arms at a weird angle. Drink wise: they have some interesting sounding drinks on the menu. Just got a cold brew einspanner this time and it was pretty good. Barista was nice and brought it out to my table. Prices were ok too, maybe $1 lower than some other places. read more

I am in love with Mate Coffee Bar!! Please come try this family owned shop out. This coffee bar is what happens when a person takes their appreciate for music, American culture, and coffee and pours it into this place. The decor, the music and the amazing staff brings me home and feels like I am walking into their kitchen to be served drinks. This place is so cute and has the best vibes. We thought the space was very well decorated and is spacious to grab a drink, hangout, or study. We tried two matcha drinks and they both were sweetened perfectly. I thought that the banana was very fresh and added a nice flavor to the matcha. Mate Coffee Bar Tried switching it up from my usual matcha (still undefeated), and went with the Eaton Mess Latte -- espresso with oat milk, strawberry purée, house cream, and a meringue cookie on top. Really solid drink. Leans on the sweeter side, but not overpowering -- the espresso still comes through and balances everything out. The strawberry adds a nice freshness, and the cream + meringue give it that dessert-like finish without feeling too heavy. The Drinks: 1. Wimbledon Melon Latte - melon milk with espresso. Not for me, but only because I now realize I REALLY don't like the taste of melon. I always knew I disliked the taste of cantaloupe but I never put two and two together that melon includes fruits like cantaloupe, and that melon milk would taste like a liquid version of cantaloupe. That was completely my fault, and my aversion to the drink is entirely due to my own preferences. 2. Mate Latte - toffee with a cream top. I love toffee lattes but I wasn't a fan of this one because the flavor tasted overly artificial. I found this place by merely casually when I was heading to a store. I came to have my coffee and ordered the honey coffee latte, there's not much variety as I wish they have. I like the flavor , but I would preferred more hot. The everything croissant was good had cream cheese inside already but I didn't know. As a recommendation always ask if it has something inside , you might be lactose intolerant. Also chairs are small , something different but is cool. They also have tea parties you can check the picture for more info. I thought it was nice since you don't see places holding tea parties often. Service is good they are very attentive and kind. Such a cute and charming place! The girl working the counter was so attentive and gave great recommendations. We got the double matcha latte, the banana matcha latte, and a couple of pastries. The pastries were AMAZING, i've never had an almond croissant taste so good. The matcha actually had the most decent amount of caffeine, I've only been able to replicate this caffeine when i make my own at home. This would be the perfect place to catch up with a friend over coffee or even do a little work. The service alone is worth the 5 stars but the drinks and food make it a solid choice. read more

Their signature coffee is the Mate Coffee, it's a toffee cream top latte with crushed Biscoff cookies. Thoughts: I want to love it but I don't. It's just okay. The bitterness from the toffee syrup and the shots of espresso doesn't give me the coffee latte flavor I love like at other coffee shops. It doesn't taste smooth. It's sharp bitterness that can't be covered. FYI, this coffee shop just opened like yesterday so, I'll give it some time for this coffee shop to perfect their cream top lattes. Okay, the coffee here is very good indeed. I tried their Mate Latte in iced form which is the second one I've gotten from them and I highly recommend it. It's a sweet latte with the components used to make it and I enjoyed it to the last drop I could slurp up. My coworker also got the iced Mate latte and the London Fog Einspanner with the Hoji cream. From what he told me it was quite delicious and from reviews it seems to be a popular drink. The location of this coffee shop is one that I'm not too sure about. Nothing dangerous or anything like that, I just think it might not be the best spot to get incoming traffic unless you know about them (or find them on Yelp ). Once you find them the interior is very nice. Has a cool, low key set up and it felt very comfortable to me. I can't say enough about the staff. They are very friendly, knowledgeable and will to help with questions. Plus, plus all around. I'll be back to try some more drinks and I hope they get lots of traffic to keep going we'll cry years to come. Sorry, I didn't take a photo of my drinks... PSA because a new café just opened up in LA County and it's too good not to share Mate Coffee in Hawaiian Gardens is officially my new spot. The inside is super spacious but still cozy, with plenty of seating, WiFi, and free parking (a win already). I tried the hojicha latte with the hojicha cream top AND the Wimbledon melon latte -- both were so good and crafted with so much care. The flavors are unique but balanced, and they paired perfectly with the pastries. You can really tell they put intention into everything they serve. They also offer afternoon tea sets with snacks and teas, which is such a cute touch if you're trying to chill, study, or catch up with a friend. My go to way of testing any coffee shop is simple: I order an Americano and a latte. No frills, no fancy syrups. If a place can nail the basics, I trust everything else on the menu will follow. Here, both fell short. The Americano lacked boldness and depth, coming across flat and one-dimensional, missing that rich, satisfying character you'd expect. The latte had a balance issue too, with the milk overpowering the espresso rather than the two working together harmoniously. The coffee flavor just got lost in it. These are the most fundamental drinks on any menu, so when they're off, it's hard to feel confident about the rest of the offerings. That said, the issues feel more like consistency and calibration problems than anything unfixable. The place has a good vibe and I genuinely hope they tighten things up. I'm obsessed with the London Fog Einspanner! This cafe has such a cute and spacious interior. There's lots of seating, and during my visits I see a lot of people working/studying or elderly people just hanging out (which is a good sign!) Service is always friendly and the drinks come out quick. You can order drinks for here (in a glass) or to go in a plastic cup. I especially love that they hand whisk each matcha or hojicha drink, but my favorite of all time is the London Fog Einspanner, which is earl grey tea, milk, and hojicha cream top. I'm a sucker for anything floral and hojicha is one of my favorite tea flavors so I was really excited to try it. I don't usually go for cream tops in my latte but the London Fog Einspanner delivered! The earl grey isn't overpowering and you can really taste the richness of hojicha in the cream top. I would definitely get this drink again. The staff is very friendly and even brought my drink to me while I was waiting. The inside is incredibly spacious with lots of seating, and it was easy to find parking because of the large parking lot. It tasted as if you were to drop a Werther's original candy into some milk and coffee, then swirled it a bit for that sweet caramel type flavor.
