The brunch is well worth the cost. There are plenty of tasty bottomless foods, served tapas style. Will definitely be going back.

Visited the new Matchbox in Silver Spring last night. Everything about it was great. Loved the decor and the staff was welcoming and friendly. Fred was our waiter and he was exceptional. Great evening last night at the new Matchbox! Had really good calamari with an amazing jalapeno jelly, excellent ribs and fried chicken cobb salad. Tablemates loved their scallops, short rib pasta, and chicken sandwich. Also the pear salad got rave reviews. The service was excellent, which was surprising since they've only been open a few weeks. This restaurant clearly does not care about its customers. We ordered a cauliflower pizza because one person has celiac disease, so flour is medically harmful. They delivered a normal pizza, and when we called to address this, the woman told us that to get a replacement, we had to order it again online, they would deliver in about an hour, and refund the fee in 5 business days. They also forgot another part of the order altogether. read more

I love coming to matchbox i am a regular at matchbox silver spring. This Friday i came in it was the worst experience i have ever seen at any industry in my life. Josh has been a great Bartender for me any time i come. I know he just got promoted this day he was so rude to his team. He yelled at them in front of guest including myself. The way he treated them was the most horrible way. I never seen this side of him. one server literally cried i was so upset i went over & asked her if she was okay she said she feels like she want to quit because he was so rude to her. i got her name it was kayla. The team felt a bit on the edge & the worst part i watch it all unfold. As a leader matchbox need to train managers how to up lift there crew for success not kicked them all around especially in front of guest. this was so unacceptable & as a regular i am very disappointed in Josh behavior towards his team. Had dinner last night for the first time with my husband and our daughter. Service was excellent with our server Kim. Very outgoing and engaging with our family . Knew the menu well and able to answer my daughters numerous questions . Food was tasty , will definitely be back again. read more

We decided to pop in for a quick bite after a very long movie. We knew nothing of this restaurant and thought it would be worth a try. It was a horrible experience. We were seated way in the back isolated from the rest of the crowd, for reasons I don't know, since the place was pretty much empty. I ordered a gin and tonic, which apparently they have no idea in how to make. Not only was there way too much gin, but the tonic water was flat and there was no lime, seriously??! I sent it back and told them to add tonic and lime, and again the tonic was flat, but at least they added a dried up lime. We order a caesar salad with steak, a fried risotto appetizer and some fries. The risotto was okay, but the dried up tomato sauce was tasteless. The caesar salad came out, with no steak, how complicated is this??? So we asked to have that remedied, and then they brought is back with 5 little 1 inch of steak on the whole salad, and then charging us 10 dollars more-a total rip off. The salad was tasteless, the dressing was tasteless, and the romaine was limp. So not only can they not make a gin and tonic, they can't even make a caesar salad. When it was time to pay the check, the waitress took our card, and then we waited for a long time to get it back, the reason was they had to go over the check. Don't you think they would do that before they hand it over to the customer? It was one of the worst dinners I have ever had. My cafeteria at work serves better food than this, and the seating was horrible, isolated in the back with the vents blowing cold air on us. NEVER AGAIN. read more

Good food. Service horrible. I went there to celebrate my birthday along with my friends. They gave us two different bills, since we had two different servers (my server btw was okay, cannot complain). My side of the table tipped 20% (as it should be done). However, the other side was having trouble with the bill, and when the server came to take the payment, there was only $10 as tip. She started crying about it, but she didn't realize that people where actually talking about how they were gonna tip her!!! One busboy came to our table, and when I politely asked him what was going on, he told us that if we didn't have enough money, we should've gone to McDonald's instead!! One, that was not he's problem, and he was incredibly rude in the way that he talked to me. Two, the server started crying out of nothing, and my friends ended up tipping her $40 (more than 20%), so she could stop crying. This whole experience literally ruined my night! I don't see myself recommending this place to absolutely no one on earth. read more

Very disappointed. We came for the first time for the advertised Bottomless brunch... nope $29 dollars for a Menu bundle with appetizer and main course. The Bottomless mimosas were an additional $25 dollars per person on top of the $29 dollars for one ($6) Brut bottle of champagne and after only 4 glasses of mimosas. Also, food did not come out as order, steak cooked wrong, eggs cooked wrong... End result for 2 people bottomless brunch and mimosas for $120. Not for what you get thats for sure its not worth the price tag. They should make it clear about the bottomless deals unless you are planning on drinking and getting wasted. I have to say service and staff were wonderful. Maybe change the policies and practices to help the costumers, after all the customers are why you are here. The customers expect great quality and good deals so this is not what the customers expect for their hard earned money. read more

Food was great during their soft opening. We went back one week after and the food quality was quite different. We ended up talking with the server and the manager about it. But their response was very disappointing. We won't go back there. Let's see how long they will last... Hen Quarter which was at the same location disappeared quickly and I anticipate the same will happen to matchbox. read more

Went here for dinner this week. Had heard good things about the food. The food itself was quite good but the entire experience for my friends and I were soured by the bad service. We had a reservation and I arrived about 10 min before the others. I was seated and given menus. A couple of minutes later, my server identified himself and confirmed I was waiting for two more people and then he left. Didn't ask me if I wanted anything to drink or order something. I had to flag him down to order one drink. My friends arrived and we had to flag the server down again to order two more drinks and our food (2 appetizers and 2 entrees all for sharing) and he forgot to order one of the entrees which added more delays. My friends' drinks came about 40 min after they were ordered. Our dishes came about 40 min after they were ordered (not counting the entree that wasn't ordered). No one checked in to see how our meals were or if we wanted anything else. All around very disappointing. This was my first experience at matchbox and I don't know if I'll go back (even to a different branch). read more

I was super excited to see that there was a Matchbox in downtown Silver Spring! I live in walking distance so the location is obviously amazing for me! I enjoyed a Mother's Day brunch with my mini me @ Matchbox and was pretty impressed. I'm not really sure how I feel about the unlimited small plates, but having to pay for each mimosa. In DC at certain restaurants, they have it to where it's all unlimited for both small plates and mimosas (same price too). I think it's something Matchbox should consider for sure! Anyway, I loved my waiter, the shrimp and grits, chicken and grits, chicken and pesto pizza, and I also ordered the avocado spread. I was disappointed because there was a small hair in my spread (after eating most of it, I noticed). It's been awhile since I've had this happen! But, the manager and my waiter handled it very well and I hate to make a big deal out of things like this because we are humans! Mistakes happen. The manger paid for my unlimited brunch because of the issue and I only paid for my mimosas, my daughters meal and her drink. I went to brunch here with some friends for a birthday celebration. Most of us were from out of town but we enjoyed ourselves very much. Our server Joshua was great and you could tell that he enjoyed his job. In spite of the pandemic it felt like quite the normal experience. Employees wore mask and gloves and customers were social distanced. Also you could look at the menu from your phone which was pretty cool. We sat outside and got to enjoy the weather. The lemon pound cake French toast was a hit with our whole table and the mimosas were a favorite too. Will 100% be back when we're in town again! read more

I really want to give this place a better review- they have a great atmosphere and the food is pretty good. I am not one to complain but the 2x I have gone the service is below-average at best. Both times we sat in the bar area and waited almost 15 mins to put an order in. On our last visit Drinks were forgotten about, we had to ask for utensils twice, we asked 2x for a leftover box for food and ultimately got up and grabbed one ourselves. Server was uninterested in us being there and had to flag him down after waiting for check for a while. For the price tag that comes along with the meal- much better service is expected. read more

I had high hopes for the next try from this restaurant group that has been in this space for many years. Other Matchboxes have been great and my first couple times at this location were okay. But, tonight, the dismal service of the past showed up. I asked the host if I could sit in the back of the restaurant, since they had the windows open in the front and it was a little stuffy for my tastes up their. She proceeded to take me to a table up front and when I said something, she offered me another table in the same area. I told her I was leaving, she said have a good night. I was looking forward to Matchbox tonight, so I walked to the back to see if there were any seats and all 5-6 seats at the pizza bar were empty and set and ready to have diners. When I asked about those, she was argumentative with me, so at that point I did leave. I really hope they can get their service issues fixed, since these are the same issues I experienced at South Austin Grill and Hen Quarter. read more

We visited Matchbox based on a recommendation from some good friends who live in the area. I find it difficult to find good Italian food at reasonable prices. We have a 2 year old so it's also nice to have a selection for kids. I ordered the pear and apple salad with chicken EXCELLENT! My husband ordered the ginormous meatball spaghetti. The spaghetti was the best I'd had in quite some time. Not sure what kind of sauce but it was working. Loved the casual but lively atmosphere and the music was excellent. The drinks were good also. No. Don't do it. I made a reservation for Sunday brunch with a few girl friends. We were excited about the small-plate format. The service was terrible. After being seated, we waited for at least 15 minutes, and no one had come by with a menu or to take our drink orders...no one even came to bring water. No one. We had to flag down a server just to ask if someone could please come to our table. Eventually, we proceeded to order 2-3 rounds of small plates. The food was SO SLOW in coming out to us that we eventually just had to leave before we had a chance to try everything. Some of the things we had ordered in the first round NEVER CAME OUT...2 hours later. It was crazy. Our server was super nice, and he did say that they were short-staffed that day. I think there must be problems in the kitchen because they must have lost track of some of our orders. Enjoyed brunch meal and had great service. My only issue was how the food was plated. I had 3 slider burgers that were covered in a huge heap of onion straws. It looked ridiculous and I had to dig the burgers out from underneath. It was more inconvenient than creative. read more

We are just getting home from Matchbox in Silver Spring and had to write this review. Our table of 10+ a baby/stroller showed up for brunch without a reservation and the staff at Matchbox could not have been more accomodating. They even appeared to open a new section for us. Everyone in our party opted for the unlimited brunch and were not disappointed. We got to try almost everything and the food was fast and fresh. We all left very satisfied. Our server, Kyle, was fantastic. He really took our experience to the next level. With such a big party, he made sure we had everything we needed and was close by to check in at all times. We will definitely be back and will request Kyle! read more

My first visit was on Mother's Day 2019, we had to wait for one and an half hour before my party was seated which was no problem since we didn't have a reservation ahead of time. But once we were seated our server Kim greeted us immediately and offered us something to drink and appetizers for the table we ordered the calamari and buffalo chicken wings and it tasted delicious, the calamari was served with a jalapeño peppers jam and the wings with homemade ranch dressing it was fabulous and delicious. Then, drinks and entrees we ordered crispy half chicken with smashed Yukon gold potatoes and asparagus, a tuna burger which is featured as the burger of the month with Asian slaw and sweet potatoes fries I swap the sweet fries for regular French fries not a sweet potato fries fan, my Day ordered the chicken Alfredo pasta she said it would have tasted better with shrimp.. our bartender Wesley did a superb job making our drink especially the 8 chilled 1800 tequilas shots we had to tip him also.. my experience to this location for the first time was AMAZING !!!!!
