I had three mini burgers... they were the best burgers I have had in a long while. Perfect sear, perfect bun to patty ratio, perfect amount of cheese, and a slice of pickle. Matchbox McLean used to be good. Good food and reasonably priced. Management for some reason decided to upscale this restaurant and it has somehow caused a steep decline in quality and service. My family has been eating at the Merrifield location for years and were very pleased that they opened the McLean location so this decline is very disappointing. In addition they used to have a nice brunch but have ruined it. You cannot order a light breakfast. They force you to buy the all you can eat for $38. I am not an all you can eat person and neither are the rest of the family. read more

So we went there today to grab a lunch and I have to admit I was definitely not happy after our meal. We ordered the crab soup and there was absolutely no lumps of crab in it. Just a thick broth. I should've known, but I went ahead and ordered the crab and avocado tower and I was just disgusted because there crab seem to be grounded up. It doesn't seem to be that lump juicy crab that I'm used to. We were the only people there and now I see why. Had brunch here - menu choices and the food was great. Our challenge was . . . why do hey crank the music at 10:30 on a Sunday morning. It was so loud our multi-generational family was stymied carrying on a conversation. We had to ask them to turn it down - and they complied - but that is always uncomfortable to have to make the ask. I am disappointed. Having driven from the airport with an appetite we walked in at about 8:45 PM with a sign saying they close at 9 and we were told we could only get takeout. The signage? Well, a detail. I went back and asked for the manager, and noted that they just opened and should want someone like me to like it there, but they were more interested in closing and going home than having a happy customer. And artichoke spinach dip $14.. I would rather go to a higher quality restaurant and pay the same amount for better food. Only reason why we came was to try it for Father's Day. Absolutely ridiculous food - stopped in for Happy Hour with a fiend and had their watermelon crushed ice drink that was so sor I gave up on it half way through - the short ribs (so tiny you'd have to be Barbie to eat them- and a fruity citrus Long Island Iced tea - if you want a hint at how to make a Long Island, never try to "improve" on the recipe by adding lemonade! My sister and I were in the area and stopped in for lunch. We've both been to other locations and we agreed it was so pleasant to away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Ben greeted us and ironically was also our server. We sat outside under the shade of an umbrella. Ben recommended the calamari (in fact he insisted) & we ordered the crab tower. Both were delicious. Red snapper, seared salmon salad, and the apple pear salad were very enjoyable. Ben has a welcoming and kind spirit. We enjoyed our light conversation about his background and journey. The Texas standoff and dirty little secret were nice for the day we had & both pack a decent punch. Restaurant and bathroom were clean. Service was swift. Tap pay at the table was convenient. Needless to say Matchbox has earned a spot on my radar, specifically McLean. read more

My first time at a Matchbox, and I am a fan for life. Their pizza is AMAZING- perfect crust thickness and texture, delicious fresh sauce and just the right amount, ditto for every other part of my margarita pizza. Their McLean location is clean, spacious and the Matchbox McLean staff deserves props for their excellence customer service. Ed, my server was so on top of everything, and their Director, Pete, was also touring tables and speaking with customers to make sure everything was Matchbox perfect and all customers had a one of a kind experience. I have been to Matchbox about 5 times since it's opened. I've noticed the prices ($17 for a mixed drink, $27 for a GF personal pizza $17 for a simple salad with protein and average of $18 for each appetizer) I have been shocked at the total price of the bill. A family of (4) will run you over $100 for a quick neighborhood pizza joint for a mid week dinner, In my opinion I would rather go to Rocco's or Santini's for food that is comparable at 1/2 the price. Matchbox bring your prices down 20% and more locals will visit. read more

Decided to give Matchbox another try after a decent, but not great dinner the night before. Ordered a Pizza to go. How hard could this be? Showed up, my pizza was ready, just sitting there, but I couldn't check out because there was only one check out terminal available and another customer was taking his sweet time going through each of the individual items on the menu, asking lots of questions, etc. I mentioned to the staff that my pizza was getting cold while I was waiting to pay. "Sorry sir, we only have one terminal for check out". Result? Cold pizza upon pick up. Disappointed. Hopefully, management will address this. read more
