Great experience at my favorite restaurant! No pics of the Apple Pear Salad. It wasn't around very long. But it was perfect: the salad dressing was plentiful but wasn't overpowering of the salad. The greens were fresh and crunchy. Pepper helped intensify the taste. Wow! Where to start. I have been to matchbox many times but tonight was simply special. I have to tip my hat to Chef Jim, our waiter "G," and the entire staff for making my sons birthday so special. They went above and beyond to show this mini-Chef-in-training the ropes, all the while giving him the most memorable experience. And oh yeah, the food was amazing. We ordered 3 pizzas online today. It was easy and efficient. Once we ordered it gave us a 15-20 minute window for pick up. We drove up in front of the restaurant, parked, and walked up to the table in front of the restaurant. Instructions were clearly marked, we called the number on the table and let them know I was there for pick up. A friendly person brought me my pizzas. As always the pizzas were delicious. We love the wood fired pizza crust and all the various fillings offered. Margarita is my favorite, my husband likes the meat pizza and our daughter has a custom order. I am sorry that the dining in is still closed, nonetheless, we will continue to eat at Matchbox where food is always delicious and so many excellent choices. Thanks so much! read more

It's irritating when the table across from you gets seated five minutes after you, but is greeted by their server five minutes before you. It's also irritating when your server drops off drinks and takes your order and then you never see him again. (Someone else delivered the food and no one came by to check to see how anything was or if we needed anything else.) And then it's realllly irritating when you have finished your meal and don't see your server for ten minutes and still have to flag him down for him to come by. In short, awful service. We ordered calamari, which was tough and overlooked. Half the dish was full of deep fried jalapeño slices so if you thought it was squid you were in for a spicy surprise. But their food, namely their attempt at pepperoni pizza, shows what happens when you mask mediocre pizza with too much salt. We had a group of 6 on a Saturday night. They do not take reservations but they do have call-ahead seating. We called at 6 pm and the wait time was 1 hour 45 minutes. We live about 30 minutes away and planned on having drinks at the bar until a table was ready. At the bar, the bartenders were attentive. All the specialty beers were served in glasses with the name of the brewery etched on them. Kinda cool. When our table was ready, it was corner booth in the bar area. That was ideal since someone in our group was on crutches. We ordered the crab + ova app and the hot artichoke + smashed garlic dip apps. Being a vegetarian, I loved that the crab + ova was served with the crab on the side. The presentation was great. I tried a bite (sans crab) and then squeezed the lime on top of the avocado and it was so much better that way! The artichoke dip's presentation was less appealing. The garlic was served on the side and was not "smashed". Maybe you're supposed to smash it yourself on the toast? Also, this app is listed as having artichokes and roasted red peppers. Ours had neither! Can you tell by looking at my photo? My husband said his bistro burger was excellent and that I should toss being a vegetarian out the window and try it! A friend had the baked salmon and enjoyed it. Another friend had the prosciutto + white turkish fig pizza and loved it. Another had the mini burgers and urged me to try one. Our experience at this location was not the greatest. After a long day of class/work, some friends and I just wanted to start off our weekend with happy hour and a nice dinner. I called at 5:00pm to make a reservation for a table of 6 and the staff member who picked up the phone informed me that it would be a two hour wait...at 5:00... My friend didn't believe her so we showed up without a reservation, and got seated right away! There were plenty of tables available. Bad impression #1. Half of our table showed up first and ordered their drinks and meals right away. The other half had car troubles and didn't show up until 5:40pm, which is still plenty of time to order off the happy hour menu. Well our waitress did not even acknowledge that half of the table until 6:00, which is when HH ends. She definitely saw us, but it seemed as though she purposely ignored us. (Bad impression #2) We were getting impatient and I think one of the managers saw because he came over. As soon as he asked us if we had been helped, our waitress appeared out of no where. We explained to her how we still would like to order off the HH menu because of how long we had to wait to get help and she told us she could do that for us. The drinks and food didn't take terribly long to come out. I ordered the sangria, which looked cute in the mason jar but was not very good. It tasted like straight up red wine. Some other friends order the lemonade off the HH menu, and that tasted a lot better, even though it didn't taste like there was alcohol in it at all. As for food, my friend and I shared the sliders. At the other locations, we have always been asked if we what kind of cheese we wanted. This location didn't even add cheese. Regardless, they were good. My friend got the crab cake burger and enjoyed that. Other friends ordered off the HH menu, but none of them were pleased with what they got. Overall, we weren't impressed with One Loudoun's Match Box. The interior was nice, but the staff needs to learn better customer service. For now, I think we will stick with Bar Louie for HH. read more

Definitely recommend the mini burgers. They are small, but perfectly satisfying. They come with a ton of fried onions which are delicious on their own and in the mini burgers. Normally, I don't like fried onions or onion rings because I find them too greasy, but these were on the drier side and seasoned nicely. Tried their salad with seared tuna. It was good for the most part, but they sprinkled some uncooked ramen noodle pieces which I didn't find too appetizing. The pizzas were ok - I'll have to try the pizzas again and make better mental notes. Crab cake sammich was good - nice portion. read more

Very expensive for what you get. Yes it is in Loudon county however the food was mediocre at best. The layout was odd and the service was somewhat slow. The appetizers came out quickly but the food took a decent bit of time to come out. The pizza was very soggy and floppy (haha) and was not impressive. The calamari was ok and the drink selection was bland. After eating dinner I was craving sweets, so I figured I would get dessert, but the waitress never came around and when she did she said she sent someone and I said no one came around. By that time I lost my sweet tooth and decided to just get my check. Miraculously a server came over after she left the table to ask us if we wanted dessert in which I told him no thank you. There are only 4 drinks (besides wine and beer) on their happy hour menu and they are def not happy hour prices. $7.50 for happy hour is not happy hour prices!! The mojito was ok, the patio lemonade was good, the sangria was TERRIBLE, it tasted soooo old and rotten. Barely any alcohol in any of the drinks. They need to lower the prices on the drinks and add more to the happy hour list. The bartender was very unfriendly and never checked on us until I had to ask someone else who worked there to get her attention for us. I'd try their food but the bar is a no go. A bunch of us Verizon ladies go to lunch 2-3 times a week and for some reason Matchbox always wins out although there are many excellent choices of restaurants at One Loudoun. The only thing consistent is the food! Always delicious especially the salads! The bartender's make a great French Martini too! Service is sometimes erratic and at times there is an air of confusion among the waitstaff. That being said they are super friendly and rectify any problems quickly. This Matchbox is no different in terms of service, decor, and ambiance with it's high ceilings, woodwork, and fire pits. Service here is friendly and knowledgeable, but can be a bit on the slow side at times. We had a bit of a late start with our meal, as there was a bit of an accident bringing the food to the table. It was quickly caught by management. The tuna tacos and fried arancini (fried rice balls) are solid ways to start the meal off. The taco shells were a bit too thick, so when you bit into them, it made it quite messy to eat. They only have individual sized pizzas here, but the Chinatown & Rockville locations both had regular large pizzas for sharing. I really like their steak salad, as it comes with tater tots and blue cheese. Good combination and with a generous portion of steak. There's a lot of seating, but some of it is on a second floor. Downside, it's probably a touch pricey for the area. read more

I've tried liking Matchbox several times, I really want to but the fact of the matter is the food is not good. It's average. Maybe a little below average. Definitely doesn't justify the price. Tried Matchbox in time for happy hour but we had to ask for the happy hour menu. No biggie except for the food.. 1. Calamari tasted like frozen squid instead of a real one; the jalapeno jelly was a nice idea but it didnt taste well for me. 2. Spicy tuna tartare tacos didnt have enough flavor to it nor was it spicy. 3. Mb chicken sandwich was better than the 2 appetizers but it still wasnt the best i've had. We asked it to be Nashville style, which was supposed to be spicy but did not have enough kick to it. 4. Sangria was not mixed right. This is one of the best Matchbox locations I've ever been to. Sometimes on the weekends during peak hours they will get very busy, but the wait usually isn't too bad. There's ample seating both downstairs and upstairs, as well as an outside bar. The wait staff is always friendly and the food is always served promptly. We've gone to matchbox twice now. The ambiance and decor of the restaurant are great and the only reason I took down 1 star was because the second time we were seated upstairs and it was HOT. Everyone in our group was sweating and the waitress was also sweating thru her uniform. Even with the heat - our waitress maintained her cool and served us well and was still always smiling :) so if you do come.. I recommend sitting downstairs or in their outside patio ;) Food was great. Our fav is def the mini burger sliders with the onion rings on top! You must try! We loved their pizza as well. read more

I'm not the biggest fan of matchbox at all. To be a pizza place and provide me with soggy crust is a huge no no in my eyes. I wish it were different as I'm running out of good food joints in the one loudoun area, but I would definitely try Spinfire if you're in the area and in the mood for a nice slice of pie! Updated review- Came here with my family for my brother's early birthday dinner before he went back to school. Same great service and tried a few new dishes. The burger is insanely good! Loved the sauce they put in. It was the perfect size and the Parmesan onion straws was a hit with all of us. The crab + avo was tasty, but the guac had too much like for my taste. The acclamation came with a jam dipping sauce, which was different. Both were very good. Three of us got pizzas, while the other ordered tuna tacos from the appetizer menu. If you want two different flavors they can do half and half. I gotta small pizza with half q special and half mushroom white. Both were very good but the mushroom was my favorite. My friend and I got a side of onion straws just because and it was huge! For dessert, we couldn't decide between the churros or brownie sundae so we ended up getting both (what a way to start our New Years diet right?). Brownie was our favorite all around. The churros were a little bland for my taste. The dipping sauces definitely made them better. Service was good, but we felt like our waiter was always breathing down on us. I don't even know where to start with this place, in a few short months this has become not only one of my favorite restaurants but also one of my favorite local hang out spots. I guess we will start with their delicious hand crafted cocktails. Personally I never thought I'd be a Moscow mule kind of person, but the matchbox Mule has kind of changed my life. It's really a must try! I'd also highly recommend their watermelon cocktail on the happy hour menu, it is so refreshing and actually packs a pretty nice punch for a fruity drink. The artichoke dip is amazing! I love that they serve it in a little cast iron pan, and the top of the dip is perfectly golden brown and crispy. Try the roasted garlic that comes on the side, it is a match made in heaven! Of course everyone raves about matchboxes pizzas, and it's for good reason! I personally love their margarita pizza, its fresh and flavorful. They use great tomato sauce and olive oil that compliments the mozzarella and basil perfectly. The matchbox meat is perfect for anyone who loves meat lovers pizza. I like their style of pizza, it on the thinner side, not too crunch like a cracker but not overly doughy. We were planning on eating at another restaurant nearby but we weren't thrilled with their 45-minute wait time so we decided to head over to Matchbox instead. I'm so glad we did because the wait was only 5 minutes. They were also doing a lot of social distancing and practicing safe methods like having hand sanitizers present and everyone wore a mask. We were starving so we asked the server to have the spinach and artichoke dip as soon as they can and it was nice and hot. The chips were fresh. Nothing too exciting but our main entreês were amazing! We all ordered the same thing which was the special- crab cakes on a bed of greens and farro. To be honest, I wasn't too excited about the farro since I've never had it before and every time someone tells me it's a healthy substitute, I'm always skeptical about the taste but this meal did not disappoint.
