my salad was completely wrong. They didn't add the chicken(which I paid extra for) and they only put pears instead of apples and pears. I had also requested goat cheese instead of blue cheese and they didn't add any at all or let me know that nothing was added. I'm very disappointed since I pretty much got a basic salad for $20 plus tip. The customer shouldn't have to check their order after pickup. I had the scallops (special) and margherita pizza. The scallops were cooked to medium rare which is typically a little less cooked than what is typically served at restaurants. This is ok with me but others may not be used to it. The sauce for it was a spicy corn sauce and not too bad. That gets a 2/3. The Pizza was not very good however. So sparse in toppling. Hardly any basil at all. (1/3) Service was reasonable but it was on the slow side. (1/1) Overall I would give this place one more star except that it is fairly expensive for what I got. The atmosphere was really cool at this restaurant. We ordered the Dynamite Shrimp as a starter, it was perfect and probably the best fried shrimp that I've had. The batter was light and crispy and the sauce complimented it perfectly. We then ordered a large pepperoni pizza as our main entree. I really liked the thin and crispy crust as well as the pepperoni. It was really good pizza with great flavor and a nice crunch. The only negative thing I can say about our experience at Matchbox Pizza is that we thought that the size of our large pizza was a little small. It was a beautiful Saturday evening and the place was hopping. It's big, so we didn't have to wait. The decor is different, kinda industrial modern with barn wood and brick on the walls. Omg. Literally the most confused and horrible experience ever from the front of house to the kitchen!!! We never got our waters until the end of dinner because "the glasses were being washed". Like literally the whole night? We asked 4 times. Then our drink orders never game. And after asking 3 times he finally said: he showed the receipt to the bartender and the bartender insisted he never got the receipt and "you know, sometimes the computers don't work and they don't get the order." Okayyyyyy but, we still had to ask you about our drinks. And PS STILL asking about our waters. Then my dad's pizza came while some of us had apps, and he had finished his pizza by the time his beer had come. He then asked to take it off the tab as he no longer wanted a beer, as he had finished his meal, and he needed to run off for an appointment. (The beer remained on the tab which we later had to remind whichever waiter was in charge of our table. Not sure. He kept disappearing for long lengths of time as we flagged others down. The manager was very nice but seemed oblivious to the chaos that was front of house, bar and kitchen. She insisted on having the pizzas made correct , but we agreed to just one of the 6 pizzas we ordered to be remade. As I "must try the mushroom with arugula the proper way". Then as I was only able to have 2 of the slices, the waiter cleared away the pizza with everything else's completed plates, didn't ask if we wanted it boxed, and again had to find the manager as he disappeared w the pizza, along with others leftovers, never to return. What?? What? What? We managed to get my pizza before it was trashed but the other pies, including ones that were actually being enjoyed were gone. Who takes plates of food and doesn't ask first if it is boxed up or if someone is done eating? That was 2 whole pizzas that vanished, not a half eaten burger. Still I've always been asked if I am to take it. This was the worst Matchbox experience ever and I don't understand how everything could go wrong. I go to the Matchboxes in DC all the time! Matchbox pizza is a fun place to come to, the atmosphere is cool, the restaurant is nice, it's not too noisy inside and the customer service is good. They also bring out the food fairly quickly. This location is at the Pentagon City Mall. The pizzas here are really good and if you're a fan of wood fired thin crust pizza, then this is the place for you. The pepperoni pizza is simple, but great. The fire and smoke pizza is really good too, it comes with chipotle purée, roasted garlic, onions, roasted red peppers, smoked gouda and basil (considered one of the spicy pizzas). The pizza here is really good, but it's more than just pizza. They have really good burgers and appetizers as well. In fact the burger sliders here are a really good app, as well as the calamari that is complimented with a jalapeno jelly. read more

While we were eating the fire alarm went off and mo one knew what to do. There was no mentioning of protocol, or if it was an accident, nada zip. Matchbox is always a solid choice for dinner. The drinks are good, and served with minimal ice. The wood fired pizzas are always a winner. The Pentagon City location is conveniently located right outside of the Fashion Centre, which is excellent for those who do not want to eat in the food court. I had tried Matchbox in Palm Springs, CA a few years ago and loved everything about it, so I was thrilled to discover that there was one right next door to our hotel when we arrived at the Ritz-Carlton in Pentagon City. It worked out even better that we woke up our first morning starving and wanted to grab breakfast before heading out to play tourist in D.C. and I knew exactly where we were going to go without any deliberation. My first impression was great as the ambiance and decor was just as lively and nice as the location in Southern California. Sometimes when you remember something great, it can be a letdown the second time around because you hype it up so much in your head, but that was not the case here. We were quite astounded to find the restaurant jam packed even though it was a Friday morning and we figured people would be at work and were immediately asked if we had a reservation. We of course, did not, but the hostess was able to squeeze us in at the bar which had full menu service, so we gladly accepted this option over waiting a half hour for a table. I was pleasantly surprised to be handed a brunch menu as I tend to be more of a lunch-food type person, but I ended up opting for the Huevos Rancheros which included guacamole, pico de gallo, black beans, corn tortillas and chipotle sour cream. I am not generally a big chipotle fan, but it was not overpowering in this dish and added just the right burst of flavor to each bite. I enjoyed the tortilla versus chip base layer and overall found the plate to be quite tasty, not to mention fairly large, which meant that I was unable to finish it. My boyfriend went with the Chicken and Waffles which came covered with sausage gravy and maple syrup. He noted that the waffles were wonderfully fluffy and the chicken meat white and moist (sorry for those who dislike the word moist, hah!). He did say that he wished it was more of a fried chicken entre versus oversized chicken tenders though. He too, had a massive number of leftovers. Normally this would be great, who doesn't like more bang for their buck after all, but since we were only there for a quick weekend vacation, we didn't get a chance to finish our leftovers. read more
