How would I rate my experience? Strange. This was our agreed locale for an after-hours dinner. The first thing I noticed when I sat down was myself. Yep, there is a row of tables against the window where you can look up and see a 45-degree mirror pointing directly back at you. Some people may like that. I do not. At all. That turns out to be my only star deduction. Although this place purports to be smoked meats, we all tended to order other items. I ended up set on the Epic Smokehouse Burger, a "Blend of ground pork and beef, bacon, smoked gouda cheese & apple wine homemade BBQ sauce." What a great blend that is. They cooked it rare to order - maybe I even needed to let it sit a minute to finish! Normally it arrives already medium, so that was nice. I ended up dipping my fries in my friend's steak juice dip (drained directly from the cooked steak I think) that he wasn't using. Great flavor, not too runny, perfect amount in the cup. Location is not bad and you just have to trek through Costco's parking lot from the metro. We didn't have a reservation but got seated right away. Service was ok, our order was taken pretty quickly. The restaurant shape was narrow bar on one end and booths/tables on the other side of the walk area. Food was fine, but on the pricier side. This restaurant seemed like it was going for high-end BBQ. Cornbread was served as table bread, and I enjoyed it. We ordered an epic combo for two that comes with prime rib, ribs, pulled pork, and brisket. The combo came with mashed potatoes and Brussel sprouts. We also got loaded potato skins and burnt ends Mac and cheese. Of the meats, we like the smoked prime rib and the brisket best. Came here on a business trip. I'd say it's right on the edge between a 3 and 4. I tried 3 things: Brussel sprouts with bacon, burnt ends Mac-n-cheese, crab cake. The best of those was the crab cake which I really enjoyed. Lots of crab, not heavy on filling or mayo. Quite tasty. The burnt ends were, as advertised, burnt. Overall not bad, but just doesn't top my list. Not suggesting you don't give it a try but I think it's pricey for what you get. Parking can be a challenge because it's mostly paid street parking and can be hard to find a spot. Staff are friendly, and the inside is quite nice. I got a pork belly sandwich, which was very flavorful and filling, and salad, although they got my salad wrong. My wife had the chicken and waffle, which I found lacking flavor. I took my team for dinner here since it has a good variety of food and it's really close to our office. Good service. We ordered a few appetizers, burnt brisket ends that were good but a little tough and chewy. Chicken wings which were a little dry. Calamari which was good. I don't drink but I ordered some of their suggested wine bottles for my team to drink and they said it was good wine. I ordered the salmon stuffed with crab meat and it was delicious with a decent serving of light veggies. It was a very good venue for a team dinner as we were able to converse easily without any loud music or chatter from a filled restaurant. This can be my go to when I'm in town. This was a pretty ok place. I stopped here for lunch during a conference that was at Amazon HQ and it was the only place that wasn't packed. It was a nice day and the interior is very dim and quiet. I sat on the patio and there was only 1 server - which wasn't too much of a problem because there was barely anybody there at that time, but service was still slow. I ordered a Paloma which took about 15 min to come out and an Epic Salad with chicken - which was essentially a southwest salad in a taco bowl. One of my favorite places to eat when visiting the DC metro area and specifically, Pentagon City. This is not your regular smokehouse but a quality eatery that serves great tasting protein with excellent side dishes to top off your meal. My wife had the brisket and mac cheese dish and it was outstanding. The brisket was cooked just right w a smokey taste and tender beef. The mac and cheese must be an old family recipe as my wife raved over it. I had the brisket poutine and I was very satisfied w everything the meal had to offer. Restaurant was dimly lit restaurant and quiet, which makes it a fantastic place to actually have a conversation. We sat at a large booth near the windows and was greeted kindly by the staff. Our waitress was nice and cheery. We received complimentary corn bread with sweet butter which were good but a bit dry. We split and order the combo which came with 1/2 rack of ribs, pulled pork, prime ribs and brisket. It came with brussel sprouts and we replaced the mashed potatoes with mac and cheese. The brussel sprouts were tasty and the mac and cheese had a nice crispy layer on top. There was an upcharge for the mac and cheese but it was worth it! The prime rib was delicious with the horseradish but the au jus was salty. The ribs were on the sweeter side but was tender. The brisket was a little dry for me but the pulled pork was good. We got the appetizer sampler to share and this try three things. Had I just ordered the burnt ends, I would have been equally satisfied. They were the best thing on the platter. The Kahula pig rolls and hickory smoked wings with BBQ sauce were good but the twice smoked and seasoned brisket ends stole the show. The portion was generous. It's been a few years since enjoying Epic in D.C., but we will NEVER forget the food, ambiance, and experience there. Top shelf service that was intimate; open kitchen and servers were always within view and attentive. The vibe gave off a busy, downtown eatery feel which was just right given the location and outside foot traffic. The menu offered wonderful smoked plates; not a mountain of food to make you so full that you lose your taste but just enough to never forget what you had. Usually when you order steak frites, they slice the steak for you and it's a lot thinner but here they literally give you a whole steak that's worth the money and I probably bet you won't be able to finish it (in a good way). Truth in advertising, as all the flavors I tasted were deliciously Smokey! I came here with coworkers from our home office after landing in DC. It was walking distance from my hotel which made it a bonus little burn. Our waitress Stephanie was hilarious and friendly, accommodating the various dietary restrictions in our group. Their menu runs the grilling gamut from beef to seafood, and they have both inside and outside seating. We started with their appetizer sampler, of which my favorites were the juicy burnt ends and chicken wings with sweet chili sauce. The sweet flavor contrasted nicely with the smokier bbq chicken. Portion size was very nice as well; it was a very juicy bird. The fries could have been a touch crispier but still and all pretty good. The wings have no flavor and the burnt ends were nothing but fat, not burnt ends at all. We tried the steak frites and a side of mushroom - both were very garlicky and salty. Our toddler had the chicken tenders and creamed corn. The tenders were ok, they were more like a chicken cutlet style. The food was not good at all for the price they charge. We had an event here yesterday, where we were able to rent out the venue, have good fellowship, good food and good drinks. The staff was amazing and so hospitable, that a few of us stayed when they opened the doors to the public again. We had a great selection of food choices, to cover multiple allergies and food preferences, and the space was perfect for our needs. Stopped by and had a delicious burger for lunch. The service was fantastic. Very friendly staff. I enjoyed watching them make their own ginger beer at the bar. It takes about 36 hours for them to create a batch. I look forward to trying one o a future visit. It's a wonderfully clean establishment with a nice decor.
