Everything here is stellar. Beef ribs were massive and falling off the bone. Pork ribs had perfect smoke and tender meat. The jalapeño sausages had great snap and flavor with a nice touch that stands out. The brisket is the real deal though. Perfectly smoked, juicy, incredible bark. Both the straight brisket and the brisket sandwich are winners and the sandwich is loaded and satisfying. The mac and cheese is creamy and a perfect side. Generous portions, authentic BBQ technique, and everything tastes like they actually care. This is quality smoke and meat done right. Highly recommend. read more

Three point five stars, but because it's barbecue, I'll round up. Right? By default, all barbecue is worthy of a half-star grace rating. The quick: Good brisket, pulled pork, and sides (at least the two I tried). An active atmosphere and Guinness on draft. Decent sauces. The dirty: Maybe a bad night, but the pork ribs were like jerky. My group came it at 6pm on a Saturday night (just before a so-called snow storm of the decade). The bar side was hopping with patrons. The dining side had maybe 4-5 tables filled (it did become quite busy by about 6:45pm). I had the tacos appetizer (with pulled pork) and the 2-meat platter with beef brisket and pork ribs. My sides were the esquites (Mexican street corn salad) and cucumber salad. I chose these to act as a foil to what I hoped to be smokey meaty goodness. The tacos were great. The pulled pork had a deep smokiness. No sauce needed except for the light dressing that came on the tacos. The platter was well-presented with sliced dill pickles and pickled onions as garnish. The brisket was pretty darn good. It wasn't oozing juice and fat, but it wasn't dry, either. It was tender enough to break away with just a little prodding from the fork. The bark was fully developed and seasoned with black pepper. For some, the pepper might be a little heavy, but I liked it. The ribs. Hmmm, the ribs. They looked dry. And they cut like cutting beef jerky with a spoon. I'm not sure if these sat out in the open under heat lamps for too long, or if they were just simply over-baked. The flavor was good, but I had to sauce these up to bring back some moisture so that they wouldn't completely desiccate my mouth. I hope it was just a bad batch because I really want to go back and try them again. The sides were great. The corn was flavorful and provided a nice balance to the meat (which again, on account of the ribs, I had to sauce up). The cucumber salad was refreshing, with a bit of mint. I might ask for a lemon wedge next time to brighten it up a little. Overall, pretty good barbecue for which I HOPE the jerky pork ribs were an anomaly. I'd go back to test that theory. read more

Texas good and I know because I lived in Texas and went to most barbecue restaurants from Austin to the little small towns around and in between Austin to Houston. Okay now that you know I know barbecue let's just say I ate everything. The grilled wings should have been an indicator that I was in the right place. I usually only eat wings that are crispy well now I can say I used to only eat because these wings were so flavorful with that grill taste I ate them all. The bake potato was good, the ribs melted off the bone in my mouth no barbecue needed. Potato salad great and Brussels were godly like thee absolute best I don't know how they were able to get the perfect texture and flavor. Sausage Great, my kids tenders and Mac and cheese was great they left nothing. Unlike the BBQ place I went to last week there is no comparison because this place is in a league of their own. Even the pickles and pickled onions were good. read more

I thought I had found our forever barbecue join, but Texas Jacks made picking between the two HARD. The ambiance feels very much like a barbecue joint and the smokes smell hits you when you walk in the door. Ample seating indoors and on the patio, with a dining room and bar in the back. We tried the chicken sandwich, double cheeseburger and I had the brisket burrito. Everything was good and the crispy fries were delicious. read more

When I moved to Arlington I saw there was a BBQ spot! As someone who loves a good thing of pulled pork and lean brisket I had to give this place a try! I ordered a two-meat (pulled pork and brisket) with a side of mac and cheese and it was incredible! I ordered online through the Toast App! The staff was friendly, food was great! The BBQ sauce selection is good too. Not as wide as a Mission BBQ but good selection that hits all the different BBQ flavor profiles in my opinion. The inside looks like one of those upscale BBQ spots that people make jokes about where portions are small and expensive but trust me when I say the pricing is fair and portions reflect pricing. There is a parking lot but if you go during peak hours you might struggle. Doesn't help that it's one way in and out. There is street parking nearby but again Washingtkn Blvd during peak hours can be a hectic street. read more

Had a fantastic saturday evening dinner here with the family (2 adults, 3 kids). We didn't make reservations & were seated right away in a booth at the bar area despite the place being packed. We ordered... -Brisket & chicken medley: easily the best brisket in the area. Extremely tender & juicy with a great bark. Chicken was juicy & had great smokey flavor. Came with 2 sides. We chose cole slaw & potato salad. Both solid! -Cornbread muffins: decent but nothing crazy special. $3 for 2 very very small muffins. -Mexican street corn: great side! Liked that the cheese was subtle in this compared to other street corns I've had. -Kids brisket cheeseburger: my son inhaled this! He said it was an 1000/10. -Banana pudding: definitely skip this. Not your classic banana pudding. It was just a bowl of whipped cream with some caramelized brown sugar & bananas. No custard or softened Nilla wafers as you'd expect. Overall, a delicious bbq joint. Service was great despite it being busy. Loud but a kids-friendly place. Parking is hit or miss. There is a dedicated parking lot right next to the restaurant but it's small & fills up quick. We got lucky though! Will definitely be back for more bbq! read more

Dripped by with a large party for lunch. Pretty decent spot. I went with the brisket burnt ends, brisket egg rolls and brussel sprouts. The brussels were good with nice vinegar with creama, the light fry helped them be a tasty start. The burnt ends were pretty good as well. The bark was good and there was not too much fat on them. They were a tad bit on the dry side and could have used a wrap or cooked to slightly lower temp. The egg rolls were different and good with a nice fry. Others ordered the brisket entree and the feedback was too much fat. The chicken tacos and chicken entrees had good reviews. The chicken was cooked well and moist. The ribs were reviewed as good, not quite fall off the bone but good. The service was pretty good for a party of 20+. read more

We did a walk in (no reservation) and there were still plenty of seats. The service was good and the restaurant is a super casual spot. The meats actually tasted smoky and the food was delicious. However, I'll say it's not my favorite BBQ spot in the DMV. The portions were as big as I'd hope for the price you're paying. Everything was delicious though! We ordered: Deviled Eggs 8/10 Chips and Queso 9/10 Pulled pork nachos 9/10 1 meat Brisket platter 8/10 Side of Mac & Cheese 7/10 Beans 6/10 2 meat brisket & Sausage 8/10 Cornbread 8.5/10 The others in our group really enjoyed their food as well. We were here to see our friend from Luxembourg. He organized the dinner at this place as one of our other friends is a regular here and has recommended this place a bunch of times. Ambiance is great. They have TVs on one side if you want to watch sports. The service is great as well. One of the best Texas barbecues in the area. We ordered two meat combo with two sides. Pulled pork shoulders and ribs were very delicious. Ribs were fall off the bone tender. We ordered Mac and cheese and bean for our sides. Very good as well. This place is decently priced as well. Our friend Mark is a regular here and the restaurant was very kind to give dessert on the house so we could taste a bunch of their desserts. Tres leches and the pudding was my favorite. Tried the meat platter and a couple sides (egg rolls, Mac n cheese, elote). All were really good. The meat was very tender, except I found the half chicken to be a little dry. I would probably try chicken wings next time instead. All and all I think they do those things all very well. I did not like they house BBQs sauces though. All of them were way too sweet. Even the one labeled spicy, was very sweet. read more

One of favorite BBQ places in the DMV. Food is consistently good and they have a huge whiskey selection at reasonable prices. Our experience at Texas Jack's was excellent! Recommended by our son, so we had to try it. We sat in the bar area and our server was Alecia, who was friendly and efficient. The time between our orders and delivery was very quick. She helped us choose our options with helpful details about the items on the menu. Alecia definitely made our dining experience very pleasant. We started with the burnt ends, which unfortunately, were too saucy and not tender. Next we shared the 2 meat combo with brisket and spare ribs, Cole slaw and mac-n-cheese. To this we added 1 jalapeno cheddar sausage. All these were excellent! The brisket was fork tender. The ribs were meaty and tender and the sides complimented the meat perfectly. Recommend this platter but would not recommend the burnt ends. Go to Texas Jacks! Ask for Alecia and enjoy a really great BBQ dinner. read more

Came for brunch on Sunday and I loved all the options. Could barely decide what to eat. I thought the spare ribs were pretty good. Wasn't too big of a fan of the Mac and cheese as the cheese was a little on the watery side but the noodles were cooked well and the flavor wasn't too bad. The cucumber salad was fresh, but missing something. I'm giving one star (I wish I could give zero stars) because of the audacity of the server selecting a preferred tip amount and not telling me he did that when he brought over the payment machine for me to tap my card. I feel it was a very sneaky thing for him to do, and I don't like that practice. When I choose to tip, I decide how much to leave. For me, it ruined what was an otherwise good lunch with a friend. For starts, Yes! I would definitely visit again and recommend for others to try it as well. In a to-go order, I got the wings, one meat with two sides (brisket, Brussels, and esquites (corn)), and a 2 piece cornbread. The brisket was pretty good. Not the best I ever had. However, it had great texture and was thick cut. Dipped in their bbq sauce- it was even better. The grilled wings were great. Fat juicy drums! *I gave my aunt the flats, and she enjoyed them too. The brussels and esquites were great. Im not a big parmesan guy, but on the brussels it surprised me. The cornbread had a great texture as it was moist and held up nice; it wasn't dry and crumbly. I prefer my cornbread sweet though. Id pass on it next time. Upon request, the pickles were great, but the pickled onions not so much. They were more bitter and "onion'y" if you know what I mean (it tastes like they used white onions, the ones that go on hotdogs). Im used to them being a little sweet when I get them from bbq places and even Mediterranean spots. And lastly, I didn't like the blue cheese too much it was more bitter (im used to sweeter blue cheese similar to Ken's). Another thing I'd pass on in the future. Overall, the main courses and sides were good. I recommend and would go back again to get the same things and even try the white meat chicken. read more

Ummmmmm.... I was so disappointed in this spot. I really wanted BBQ and couldn't wait to sink my teeth in some goodness. This place has no flavor. The brussel sprouts was the best thing on the menu. That's it. I had the egg rolls (no seasoning) the best thing about them was the crema. The deviled eggs tasted mostly like pickles. Not a fan. The burnt ends was DRY! With no seasoning. The best part was the fat. Without the fat. 1/10 easily. Also had the 2 meats 2 sides with a side of beans. The brisket over cooked and NO SEASONING! The chicken gave school lunch. Again no seasoning. The corn was cool could use some lime. The beans...meh. I really wanted to like this spot but it just wasn't for me at all. read more

This was an ok visit but I doubt I will come back since I would be passing multiple BBQ spots before getting to this location. There wasn't anything that stood out to make me want to come back but if you're in the area, it's cool to satisfy the bbq craving. The Lavender Haze cocktail was ok, the lavender flavor was really faint. The brisket eggrolls were interesting - the cojita cheese was prominent. The meat was tender. The pulled pork sandwich and chicken sandwich that we ordered was stacked with meat. We were pretty much full from the eggrolls so we only had a few bites of the sandwiches. We tried each of their bbq sauces and weren't wowed but they did help bring some flavor the eggrolls and our sandwiches. The noodles could've been cooked a little longer but the Mac and Cheese was really good. It's the highlight from my meal. I'm not sure of the cheese blend but it had just the right amount of seasoning and the texture worked well with the type of noodles used. Although we were satisfied with our app and entree (we decided to take home the remainder of our sandwiches), there's always room for dessert right? We opted for the peach cobbler and it was terrible. The peaches were hard (partially frozen) and cold. We're accustomed to a warm peach cobbler with cold vanilla ice cream - not cold fruit and hard, salty biscuits. The biscuits were extremely salty. The restaurant looked clean, bathroom was neat and service was decent. I appreciated our servers understanding about us not enjoying the peach dessert. There's plenty of seating indoors and outside which is nice. There are other local spots that easily give this place a run for their money but Texas Jacks can't be completely written off. read more

My friends and I were feeling Southern American BBQ, so we went to Texas Jack's for dinner last Friday. We made a reservation (just in case) but it didn't seem necessary given the spacious dining area they had. The service was fast and we were in and out in less than an hour. CORNBREAD MUFFINS (2) - 2.50 We got two orders of these and they were pretty standard. I love corn-based foods, so I enjoyed these regardless. The honey butter was good, but I was OK eating the cornbread muffins without it. Good, but nothing to write home about, though. CRISPY BRUSSEL SPROUTS (LARGE) - 11 The large portion is a good sharable in our group. The brussel sprouts were generously topped with parmesan aioli that gave it more of an "oomph". However, it was way too oily and greasy for me and not too enjoyable after a few of them. PORK SPARE RIBS (HALF RACK) - 21 So tender and the meat easily falls off the bone. The flavor on them was pretty smoked, and overall above average. The meat was tender, but the pork ribs weren't very big or juicy. Either way, we enjoyed them! Food isn't too expensive. We paid around $16.50pp after tax and tip, and we were quite stuffed at the end. Good food and good value! read more

We can as party of three and got a variety of items. The cornbread was great. I was surprise the pull pork came with a sauce on it. It was the Carolina sauce nothing spicy but was not expecting it. The Mac and cheese is good normal favor. I got the brisket and chicken meal and the meats were great. I wish the chicken skin was crispier. The Brussels spouts tasted like fries not sure if they use the same oil but was a little over done in parts. We had a great dining experience here getting our bbq fix! Small parking area to the left of the restaurant but we found parking along the residential street. We got seating outdoors ordering: Caposaldo (5/5): crisp, dry & refreshing pinot grigio that we LOVED! Brisket Egg Rolls w/ cilantro jalapeno sauce (2/5): crispy wrapping but filled mainly with sauteed veggies, would pass on this next time Corn Bread (3.5/ 5): slightly dense, but soft & paired well w/ the cinnamon honey butter Meat Sampler (5/5)- fall apart tender, esp the spare ribs & brisket, and was delicious paired with their bbq sauce! we ordered buns on the side to create pulled pork sandwiches which made our meal more filling! it's served with pickled red onions and sweet&spicy pickles which added great acidity to the heaviness of meats + sides (mac&cheese and esquites) Would return for their well-executed bbq meats & good service! read more

I heard that Texas Jack's has some of the best BBQ in the area, so I came in with high expectations. They were really empty on July 5th, but still open for lunch! The medley has 1/2 lb. brisket, half chicken, 3 pork spare ribs, 1/2 lb. pulled pork, 1 sausage links, and two sides (collard greens and cornbread). I found the brisket to be just okay. Texas Jack's for me is hands-down the best, most consistent bbq spot in the DMV area. Their smoked meats are never dry and never under-cooked. They have delicious and simple sides, especially the mac-n-cheese. The DMV isn't really well known for their bbq in my opinion, but Texas Jack's is definitely solid. Also, they have really delicious cocktails and their lavender lemonade is one of my favorite drinks. If you eat-in the servers are all super nice and fast/efficient. Stopped in for the first time around lunch hour on a Monday, it was not busy at all, seated right away by staff. The restaurant has a plethora of seating; booths, table tops, bar seating, and what looked like a private event area in the back with a private bar too! The server was friendly and very attentive! Started with a butter scotch root beer which tasted very good, almost reminded me of a butter beer, for all my Harry Potter fans LOL! Also ordered Carolina Gold wings and the flavor was tangy with notes of savory and smoky, very juicy as well! For my main I ordered the brisket sandwhich and it was average, the meat itself didn't have that much flavor to it, wasnt too dry. After adding some of the house bbq sauce (Carolina Gold BBQ) it definitely added flavor to the meal which made it tasteful. After trying the other house bbq sauces I'd say the original is the best tasting, the spicy just seemed alittle more smoky tasting than the original, didn't really get any heat from it. I tried the pulled pork sandwich which had lots of flavor very juicy the coleslaw was a good compliment to the meat as well! Ordered the corn bread and it was really good, moist and the butter to top it was the right amount of sweetness. The fries were amazing, seemed to be double battered or fried up to make them super crispy with that hard outer layer that adds a crunch to every bite! Over all the experience was good, I definitely want to come back and try more of the menu! Also can say the bathroom was very clean! Thanks for your business!!! read more

Wow, what a great barbecue spot. I've always driven by it when I'm hanging out Clarendon I've never actually gone and a friend of mine must tell me about the brisket egg rolls. I got curious so we came Saturday right before 3 PM so they still have their brunch menu first thing we got where the brisket eggrolls really happy to see that on the brunch menu and that shit was fire Afterwards my friend told me her next favorite thing was their chicken sandwich and I was like how would you compare it to like a Chick-fil-A sandwich and she definitely said it's more grown whatever that means but it was pretty good. I wish I kinda had gotten something else I was leaning towards the burnt ends at first, but I'm glad I got the side of mac & cheese, cause that was really really good.
