Crème brûlée matcha latte with oat milk and less ice
    Raymond N.

The last time I visited the Serramonte location of Matcha Ren was during the grand opening less than a year ago. Now it seems the hype has significantly died down and only one person was waiting for her order when I arrived. There were two baristas working at the time, though I was standing at the counter to place my order for a good three to four minutes before finally being acknowledged. I wanted to try the new ube toasted coconut matcha latte and crème brûlée matcha latte and ordered both with oat milk. I like how the business is transparent with what milks it uses in its drinks: Kirkland Signature whole milk, Califia Farms almond milk, and Califia Farms oat milk, with the nut milks being an extra $1 charge. The place is clean for the most part, but that is not saying much considering Matcha Ren is just a kiosk in the center of the mall. The drinks were ready in about five minutes. I thought it was a bit weird how the ube roasted coconut drink had a lid but the crème brûlée did not when both had the toppings poured over the matcha in the same way; I was provided a lid for the crème brûlée upon request. Both drinks were made with less ice upon request and even then the drinks tasted watered down with minimal matcha flavor. The ube and crème brûlée flavors were also not too distinct and definitely got lost in the matcha when mixed. After a few minutes, the matcha in the ube drink already showed signs of separation and this made me question the quality of the ingredients used. I could see why Matcha Ren did not maintain its hype over the past year. The staff also did not try to make up for the flavorless drinks with great service as they kept me waiting for minutes before even acknowledging me at the counter. Even the previous matcha spot in Serramonte was much more flavorful with better service. Unfortunately, I don't know how much longer Matcha Ren will last in its undeserving prime center spot in Serramonte where the old fountain used to be.

Ube toasted coconut matcha latte & creme brûlée matcha latte

I stopped by for their BOGO drinks this past weekend for their matcha lattes. I came on Sunday and there was a short line. There were 3 employees working and the line moved pretty slow. They took orders for a couple of customers and then stopped to make the drinks. The offer was valid for 3 specific drinks: ube toasted coconut, crème brûlée or oreo matcha affogato. We got the ube and creme brûlée. I didn't see any toppings listed on their menu. It would have been nice to have some boba. Both drinks had a good strong matcha flavor but tasted a bit grainy/powdery to me. The ube cream mixed well into the drink and the ube flavor was noticeable. The creme brûlée was mid. I wished the sugar was torched a bit longer to create that crunchy sugary top. It didn't really enhance the drink once mixed and just tasted like a regular matcha latte.

Strawberry matcha late & matcha and milk swirl soft serve

First time here and I tried the strawberry matcha latte and the matcha and milk swirl soft serve. The strawberry matcha latte tastes like any other strawberry matcha latte, bitterness from the matcha with the mix of sweetness from the strawberries. It's not too bitter which I like The matcha and milk swirl tastes like matcha and the "milk swirl" tastes like the white rabbit candy. That's the best way I could describe the flavor. So if you like white rabbit candy, you should def try it! Overall I enjoyed it and I would come back again :)

when I tell my boyfriend I'm craving a matcha, and he offers Serramonte mall, I never really knew if he means Starbucks or a hidden gem. Turns out, it's more of an underrated lil treat. Matcha Ren, the lil kiosk shop near the photo op for holidays/by JD shoes. It's a screen order system so you can customize it before the receipt gets printed for the barista. Boyfriend did a "prank" and put "please make with love" and the baristas laughed, but why was his slightly sweeter than mine? Coincidence? I think NOT. Now, back to the drinks. Mango matcha is a new drink hyperfixation for the boyfriend, it's sweet, easy to drink, and they do double shots of matcha (hence the color as dark as my soul). Blueberry matcha is good too, not super sweet but definitely freshly muddled which is perfect. We'll definitely be back!

Matcha Mont Blanc Softserve $10.11 can you see the hollow space in the middle??

Matcha Ren is located in the middle of the mall and with all the hype around matcha everywhereso of course we also fell for this... what I don't like about a lot of these dessert type of places now is there is literally zero human interaction. There is only one kiosk to order from so the wait can be long. What's even more annoying is that when they're done with your order, they just leave it at the counter for pick up and don't even bother calling out the number -- how lazy can you get?? Anybody can just come up and grab your order. I also didn't get a text that my order was ready! C'mon and you're asking me to tip you? For what... Matcha Mont Blanc Softserve $10.11 with tax included. We saw this spaghetti matcha on TikTok but in actuality, I don't understand how this adds to the overall flavor of the dessert. Also they swirl the soft serve around the edge of the cup so that the middle is actually hollow -- so basically you get less for what you paid -- thumbs down

Pretty great flavor and fair price, just extremely busy. Line moves fast, but due to sheer amount of people, the wait was about 15 minutes. Big cups and good quality ingredients. I think I'd come back.

Opening weekend was amazing. Long anticipated Matcha Ren opening close to home, sparing us the 70-mile round trip to their San Jose location. The kiosk is no-frills and easy to spot in the center of the mall by the fountain (formerly their sister spot, Mochill). But every visit since has gone downhill from the lack of service by the monotone, resting-betch faces at the register and pickup counter to the slipping quality & shrinking portions. The drinks barely taste like matcha now, and the soft serve is hella skimpy. I'm so sad. Has it just been three off visits? Should we give them a fourth try? At this point, I'm not sure the prices justify another chance rn. Might have to head back to San Jose where their flavors, quality, and portions remain consistent for years.

    Strawberry Daifuku
    Meriya S.

It was my first time walking around this area, and I was in the mood to try something matcha-based. This shop immediately caught my eye--the desserts looked beautiful and very tempting. I decided to try the Strawberry Mont Blanc Parfait ($10) and a Strawberry Daifuku ($4.80). The staff let me know that they were out of whipped cream, so they substituted custard instead, which I appreciated them explaining upfront. When the parfait was placed on the counter, it accidentally tipped over, so it didn't look as pretty as expected (you can see that in the photo). I told the staff it was totally fine and that I could still enjoy it--I really didn't mind. They were incredibly sweet and grateful, and as a kind gesture, they gave me an extra daifuku for free. The staff even offered to remake the parfait, but I declined since the shop was quite busy and I didn't want them to feel rushed. Honestly, the service here really stood out--very thoughtful and warm. As for the food, it wasn't amazing, but it definitely wasn't bad either. Overall, it was enjoyable and satisfying. I especially liked that the matcha flavor was rich and not overly sweet, which is perfect for me since I don't enjoy desserts that are too sugary. The shop is located inside a mall, so it can get crowded, and you may need to wait in line at times. Still, with such kind service and decent matcha desserts, it's a nice place to stop by if you're in the area.

    Chocolate strawberry and matcha strawberry
    Lynnelle E.

This is my first time here, but I always see the spaghetti matcha soft serve on tiktok. I went for the mochi treats to eat when I get home. The line wasn't too busy and I was helped right away. I quickly scanned what they have and saw a chocolate strawberry mochi and matcha strawberry mochi. I was low key disappointed when I opened it that the mochi was cut in half and a strawberry was placed in the middle.. but I honestly didn't know what I was expecting. The chocolate mochi was alright but tasted artificial in flavor if that makes sense. The strawberry was juicy and tart. Sadly, this is something I'll pass on next time. The matcha strawberry mochi on the other hand was everything I wanted and more. I'll definitely come back for this next time. Prices seemed high at first but honestly reasonably priced.

    Chocolate Strawberry Mochi
    Melinda K.

Needed a matcha fix after an hour drive across the bridge during a hectic morning commute. The matcha latte wasn't too sweet with almond milk and the chocolate strawberry mochi was alright. The strawberry was a bit green at the end though and it was cold. Not a line before lunch time and service was fast from one person. Nice to have a matcha kiosk inside the mall.

Matcha soft serve with a cone on top
    Ming S.

Great service and great soft serve. Matcha Ren is stationed in the middle of the Serramonte mall, which makes it easy to locate and get to. I tried the matcha soft serve, it was better than I expected. The staff were friendly and helpful when deciding. I noticed they used Crystal Geyser water for their lattes, instead of regular tap water, which is a plus. I'll come back to try the matcha lattes next time.

Took over Mochill Mochi Donuts (rebrand, same company)
    Cherylynn N.

When one concept is slipping or not doing well. Pivot. And, rebrand to something "trendy". Matcha has been around but they've been blowing up in the last several years. With Amausaan Uji Matcha closed, I guess it makes sense to open Matcha REN. This week, Mochill Mochi Donuts has rebranded to Matcha REN (same company). They legit transformed Mochill overnight to Matcha REN. Impressive. They're located at the water fountain area of SerraManila (mall is dog friendly). The company also owns Takoyaki Yama-Chan (J Town + Mitsuwa) and Mochi-Ya REN (Mitsuwa). M E N U Soft serve: matcha or hokkaido milk, crêpes (rice flour), freshly made mochi, shakes, mont blanc, and more. They also sell the same matcha drinks as Mochill (hand whisked to order). No more mochi donuts. Grand opening promo 9/12/25-9/14/25: 50% off drinks and soft serve only. D E S S E R T Strawberry Mont Blanc Parfait ($10): https://tinyurl.com/5tz9m2se - Regular price, not 50% off Gimmick or nah? The matcha mont blanc has been a viral dessert but I haven't had the chance to try it at their sister business Mochi-ya Ren in Mitsuwa (SJ). A layer of strawberry puree with clear jelly cubes, QQ dango mochi-like rice balls, and cereal are topped with creamy hokkaido + matcha soft serve that's crowned with matcha anko (white bean paste) extruded into the shape of vermicelli noodles like the French and Japanese chestnut dessert. While this got mixed reviews from their other locations, I enjoyed it. Strong matcha flavor with the earthy bitterness balanced by the sweet ripen strawberries and nutty "mont blanc". Not too sweet but the hokkaido soft serve was lacking a milky flavor. S E R V I C E Order took a long time (20 minutes) because today is the first day. They didn't have a soft opening to practice so the staff was trying to figure things out. Overall, Matcha REN is a welcome addition to SerraManila that's becoming a hub for AZN cuisine like nearby Stonestown. Up next is Koi Palace, Marufuku Ramen, and HaiDiLao in SerraManila....talk about a glow up of one of my childhood malls!

    Jessie H.

Pretty damn tasty! A decent price for a cone 6.5 and it was flavorful and fresh tasting not too bitter at all & not too sweet. Creamy with some icey & smooth. I like how fast they were and she was friendly with the service!

Another late review here, whoops…read more Can I tell ya'all how stoked I was to walk around Serramonte Mall and find AMAUSAAN UJI MATCHA? Just the mention of "matcha" and I am there, so even before I approached the store to peruse the menu, I knew that I had to go there and try something. Not just an ice cream parlour, AMAUSAAN UJI MATCHA is a matcha specialty sweet shoppe that specializes in a range of matcha-based desserts, including lattes, soft serve, and traditional Japanese desserts. This location of the Japanese dessert café was uber kawaii ("cute" in Japanese) in décor with a kimono-dressed white rabbit standing beneath lit lanterns, welcoming guests at the entrance. Pink walls and faux cherry blossom trees created a serene atmosphere, inviting patrons to savour their treats in a tranquil setting reminiscent of a cherry blossom festival in Japan. I did my research - AMAUSAAN UJI MATCHA is a tea brand that offers Uji matcha, regarded as the highest grade of matcha in Japan, sourced from the renowned Amausaan farm. This store's menu featured a delightful selection of cones, parfaits, cakes, smoothies, sodas and more, most of which were infused with the rich and vibrant flavour of matcha. Below are some items that we ordered: K2 Uji Matcha Latte with Matcha Soft Serve & K1 Royal Uji Matcha with Matcha Ice Cream Ball - For a more pronounced matcha taste, it was worth paying extra for the floats of a swirl of soft serve and a scoop of ice cream. B1 Double Matcha - V ordered this creamy soft serve infused with high-quality Uji matcha, served in a cone. Despite the silky and smooth texture, V was meh over the flavour. L1 Ice Royal Uji Matcha & L2 Ice Matcha Latte - Unlike K1 & K2, these yummy FLOATS were automatically served with matcha soft serve toppings. Both offered perfect balances of sweetness and bitterness with each sip. E1 Inari Chidori Matcha Mille Crepes - I was excited to dive into the 18 layered delicate sheets of sweet crêpes, separated by even airier layers of light matcha-flavoured whipped cream, topped with a dust of green matcha powder. Surprisingly, I wasn't blown away by this cake as I expected. Just ok I found this dessert to be. I was sad to see AMAUSAAN UJI MATCHA leave the Serramonte Mall.

Because who doesn't love a super cute themed Japanese dessert place? I guess with the location being in the mall, the lack of staff, ingredients or what not, the entire parfait section of the menu wasn't available and I can only order a drink to go and it was served in a to go cup instead. Just tasted like a standard sweet matcha milk with some matcha ice cubes. The interior was cute, but that was it. A good part of going to a place like this is to enjoy the presentation and atmosphere, so it killed a bit of the vibe. Fingers crossed that this place survives or this franchise gets revitalized elsewhere or tries in SoCal!
