Not sure the banana matcha latte is worth the hype. It was good, but it's very sweet and tastes like banana laffy taffy. The matcha itself was bitter and green. Matcha 108 is really popular online. The matcha flavor is nice, but overpriced and their popular matcha (banana matcha) is not made with an in-house syrup. Matcha flavor did not taste as rich and strong as I would've wanted. However, the banana matcha fl tasted really nice even as someone who doesn't live to eat banana. It's natural tasting and it pairs well with the matcha. Service: so nice! So quick and efficient. Ambiance: very little seating but it helps make it easy for customers to come in and out. this is probably one of the few places i trust in downtown manhattan for matcha that isn't a waste of your money. i make most of my matchas at home with marukyu, so it is on the rarer side i crave matcha when i'm out and about that meets expectations. they put a healthy dose of matcha in their banana latte, so much so that i generally leave feeling pretty energized, have increased heart palpitations, and get a teeny-bit over-caffeinated. not a huge problem, but better remember that if you're sensitive to caffeine. the matcha taste is a little on the stronger side (more grassier/vegetal), so it helps for me personally to ask them to add a little extra sweetener in it. i think the banana flavor is there, more on the subtle side, but noticeable and nothing near artificial-tasting or overbearing. i can get the small size on my own and feel SUPER caffeinated or split the larger size with my husband and still feel pretty caffeinated without catastrophizing. it definitely feels more on the coffee/latte like spectrum of caffeination, which is on the rarer side for me personally when it comes to matchas. the staff here are pretty quick and efficient. i also love that their go-to milk is oat, which they don't charge extra for. that's kind of a big deal with all the other places upcharging for plant-based milk alternatives b/c they use shitty dairy milk to cut costs (I SEE Y'ALL!!). the space has some limited seating (about a couple tables and a bench or two), so it might be better as a swing by to pick up and get on your merry way kind of place, but if you want to rest a table might open. very chill vibes. i just appreciate the no-frills aspect of this cafe. they don't skimp on the matcha, it tastes good without being fake or overly dessert-forward, the staff are nice, and the establishment remains a humble hole-in-the-wall, just the way i like it. probably best matcha for it's consistency, trueness to flavor, and no-frills experience. read more

Tinyyy as hell place but I was in the area and wanted to get so matcha with a friend, but also wanted to sit down and chat. Luckily my friend and I were able to snag the window seat and enjoyed our matcha for about an hour. Their matcha is pretty good and the cafe itself is cozy. Not really a place where you can sit down and work - more like stay for an hour max enjoying your drink. read more

From my first experience at Matcha 108, I wasn't quite blown away by their matcha, primarily due to the fact that I probably shouldn't have ordered the vanilla matcha. The vanilla flavor felt quite cloying and overwhelmed the taste of the matcha. Additionally the straws are flimsy and when I tried to stir my vanilla matcha, the straws got bent quite badly and the drink wasn't stirred as well as I'd like, which contributed partly to the strong vanilla flavor. I finally removed the lid to stir it, but overall felt that the vanilla was too strong and the matcha itself wasn't the nutty flavor profile that I like. Judging by other reviews, the banana matcha is much more popular, but I'm not a fan of bananas, so this may not be the store for me. read more

This is one of my friends's favorite places to get matcha in Manhattan, and I see why! They use a lot more matcha than other cafés do in their drinks, so you can be sure that you are going to be caffeinated after finishing your drink. The space itself is small, and it definitely is not great for large parties who want to try to sit down and enjoy their drinks indoors, but I will say I love the way that they decorated the space. The artwork is awesome and whoever curated the artwork has a great eye. The baristas were nice and took their time preparing our drinks. Didn't feel rushed at all even though there was a long line behind us. I ordered the Uji matcha latte but I would try the banana one next time. I also love that by default their milk is oat milk! read more

A kinda hidden & lowkey matcha spot in the outskirts of Chinatown. Calm and minimal interior design (a lot of diy which is cool). Got the lavender matcha here (~$8) and it was alright. I feel like they needed to add more lavender for the taste to stay throughout the drink. At first the lavender was potent but as you mix it with the matcha the taste disappeared and it just tasted like a regular matcha latte at the end which was kinda disappointing. Overall a decent spot but given the amount of cafes opening in the city, let alone in that area, this spot doesn't stand out much. read more

Matcha 108 is a small shop with limited seating and friendly service. Two young women behind the counter took orders and prepared the different flavored matcha lattes and hojicha lattes. I've never had a hojicha latte before so it was an easy choice to try. Hojicha is a Japanese roasted green tea. I was recommended to add sugar which I chose 50 percent. It was the right amount of sweetness. Overall, it is a great addition to the neighborhood. I can't believe how much the neighborhood has changed. read more

This is the coolest matcha place I've been too and nothing can compared. When they say their matcha is ceremonial grade then you know Matcha 108 is not lying. Their matcha is very bright green compared to a lot of matcha places I've been to. I decided to go for their matcha banana latte and it was so cool and tasty. Could taste a subtle of banana syrup in the matcha. The matcha grade was so bright green that I licked every piece of matcha I could find in the cup! Also the interior of the store is so nice! Lots of Japanese armory and pieces of art! Love the wallpaper! There's also a racket full of clothes sitting against the wall, which I did not find it fit with the rest of the Japanese artwork. There bathroom is a bathroom behind the curtains in the back, which is a tight fit to get to. The bathroom is really small and looks like a bathroom in your own apartment because it has an old shower inside. read more

4 stars for the drink, but minus 1 star for limited availability of menu options unfortunately. Probably one of the best matchas/hojichas you can get in manhattan, but with oat milk being the standard pairing, it lacked the full bodied texture and flavor that a latte has with dairy milk. I did appreciate the strength of the tea - it's quite rare to find a spot that actually puts enough tea in the lattes! Unfortunately they seem to run out of menu items, which can make ordering what you hope for potentially difficult. The day I went there was only agave sweetener, and no vanilla, which I imagine is a popular variation of both matcha and hojicha. (Makes me wonder, how can you run out of vanilla?!) There is a small amount of seating inside, and staff are overall helpful and are doing what they can with what is available to them. Management likely needs to better estimate how much stock they need of their various flavorings so that they don't sell out. read more

The vibe of matcha 108 is great! Super nice place to study or hangout with friends. The service is quick and the staff is super friendly! I appreciate that they automatically don't serve cow milk it's a great place if you are dairy free! My only complaint is that if you get a matcha with almond milk, the milk takes the majority of the flavor, so definitely choose a different milk! read more

A relatively new matcha spot in the LES! I really enjoyed the bold, earthy matcha that they feature. Love how they give you a GENEROUS amount of matcha!! My partner's banana matcha latte was probably my favorite out of the 3 drinks I tried. The matcha blended smoothly with the banana milk and it wasn't too sweet. The uji matcha without milk was refreshing and mixed very well. My uji matcha latte was less creamy/milky than others in NYC, but it again really highlighted the strong matcha flavors. All drinks are made with oat milk. Unfortunately my drink had more matcha clumps, but our other two drinks did not and were mixed well. There was a long line so I wonder if they were just in a rush when sieving/mixing. You have the option to sweeten your drinks but we didn't. Several other customers asked for more ice but I felt like my drink to ice ratio was fine. Staff members were really nice and attentive. The store itself has limited seating. I liked the Japanese decor with the Chinese lettering outside. Definitely hole in the wall type of exterior. This place partners with a clothing store that features kimono-inspired clothing with other traditional Japanese influence. read more

At work sometimes I like to take a coffee break in the afternoon. So walking down Madison St I saw this shop many a time. Seems like Matcha is new popular drink in a lot of tea & boba shops. So I tried plain matcha and banana matcha. Matcha is not an acquired taste but it can be. These drinks were measured and prepared by friendly mixer. I love the smoothness and flavor profile. Matcha is not cheap. About $35 for 2oz small container of premium matcha powder. Been here multiple times. Place has limited seating available. But if the weather is right you have many options available walking by South St between Manhattan and Brooklyn Bridge. read more

A great matcha drink - I got the iced banana matcha, which claims to use 7 grams of matcha per 12oz drink. It's definitely earthy and rich with a vibrant green color. I got it lightly sweetened and enjoyed it. It's not too strong, banana wise, which I enjoyed! My husband got the Uji matcha latte and thought it was pretty average for him. I think the milk choice just results in a less creamy matcha latte. All drinks are made with oat milk, which I appreciated as a lactose intolerant Asian haha Limited seating, not too loud, a cute spot in the two bridges are. Would come back! read more

The matcha here is high quality and very classic. They don't have an overcomplicated menu, and their drinks are simple but good. They don't skimp on their lattes and put a proper amount of tea. They also don't charge extra for oat milk, which is a huge plus as a part of the lactose intolerance club. Drinks aren't too sweet either. Truly best matcha in the city! They pour in charcoal water and mix religiously. Only downside is it's so hard to get in and lines get long. Definitely recommend all the matchas, cheesecake, and ice cream. The matcha flavor is so rich and love that they focus on it. read more

Very cute little location, they had a couple seats available. They only have oat and almond milk which was alittle disappointed in. I got the matcha with no milk so it was just water. It was such a beautiful green and had such a strong matcha flavor! I ended up being very happy with it although I do wish it had regular milk the matcha with water was very good read more

After exploring Dumbo, I stopped by Matcha 108 in Chinatown. This is a fairly new matcha shop. They really took their time decorating this place because the seating is very unique with plants and antiques. They also have some clothes they sell as well. They have various matcha and hojicha drinks for sale. You can either get a small size of 12 oz or a larger one of 16 oz. There's a girl who works this shop herself and you can watch her make your matcha. You can tell by the dark green color that they use a high quality ceremonial grade matcha. All lattes are also made with oat milk. In addition to the regular lattes, they have vanilla, lavender, and banana flavors available. I decided to get the vanilla matcha latte and my friends both for the banana matcha latte. The matcha had a deep earthy flavor. The vanilla flavoring was enough as a sweetener and didn't overpower the matcha at all. My friends really enjoyed their banana matcha lattes as well. I'm no matcha expert but this is definitely a potential spot to check out if you don't want to wait in long lines of neighboring matcha spots read more

Quality of the matcha was insane. So glad I stopped by and tried. Prices are about what you'd expect, I paid under $10 for an iced banana matcha latte with oat milk (oat milk is their standard milk of choice). The location is out of the way for me but worth the walk and it's pretty cute inside. Not too frilly and the focus is definitely on their matcha quality which I appreciate. So green and they don't skimp. Definitely want to visit again and try their other options read more

I went there at 3pm and hunted for a table and my friend got there by 330pm. By the time we ordered and started drinking our coffees - we were informed the lounge area will be closed at 4pm to prepare for the evening wine bar. Oh right this cafe turns into a wine bar in the evenings! How cool! At 4pm we thankfully grabbed one of the high tables - sharing it with another couple but it was large enough for the 4 of us. The lights dimmed and the atmosphere changed to more intimate. We unfortunately had to leave at 5pm, but I imagined picking up a James Baldwin book, ordering some white wine and enjoying both.... Mmm definitely next time. Maybe sometimes after work - sounds like a great wind down.

Our wait was at least an hour and a half and were texted when our table was ready. They have indoor and outdoor seating with one bathroom for all to use. We got the viral pancakes and they were everything you'd dream they be and then some for sure very filling and buttery. I got a "pick me up" and it was perfect gave me a beautiful caffeine kick to start the day I recommend for sure. Weather you come for the viral moment this feels like a solid staple in the community with bright music playing everyone kind of everywhere and just a relaxed feel that you can't wait to enjoy after you get seated. The honey butter pancakes were pretty good but kinda drenched in the butter that made it hard to finish. The korean wings were also alright but the batter to me was kinda thick and heavy and lacked crispiness. The best item we ordered was the breakfast sandwich with hashbrown, scrambled eggs, and sausage. I think the eggs are cooked with cheese, and as someone who typically does not eat cheese, I didn't mind it. I don't know if I'll be back again - I think the concept of an asian twist on the classic diner does sound intriguing but difficult to execute. I also wasn't a big fan of the wait time. If you typically like heavier, diner food then this spot might be the place for you!
