Transport to India without flying? Say less This coffee shop is such an iconic spot in DUMBO. If you dine in, grab a seat first and they'll come take your order at the table, grab and go can be ordered at the counter. The menu is super interesting with lots of Indian dishes and drinks. Definitely try the rose chai, it comes with a quick pour performance from the staff, very fun! And the food... so good. The egg sandwich sounds simple but somehow tastes unbelievably good.
I would come here every week if I could! The staff is super helpful and nice. The menu ranges from drinks to foods and there's something for everyone on there. They also have a lot of seating options. Loved my drink and want to come back!
SERVICE - located in DUMBO near the waterfront - spacious interior for a cafe with ample seating at couches, bar, and tables - store in the back sells small business owned goods with a focus on South Asian brands - option to order at the counter for take away or sit down and have the menu brought to you - servers were very friendly and engaging - food served relatively quickly - ambiance good for a semi casual meetup MENU - Indian inspired cafe foods and drinks - vegan/vegetarian options available - average price FOOD - mango cake (4/10): mango cake with a vanilla icing. This was on display and it was marked as vegan which made it sound very enticing. Unfortunately it was a miss for me. The icing was overly sugary which gave it an almost cloyingly sweet taste and a crisp top. The cake was dry and lacked a strong mango flavor. I would have liked it more if there was a different frosting that was creamier and less sweet and if there was a layer of jam in the middle to keep the cake moist. - mango smoothie (10/10): mango blended with coconut yogurt and vanilla pea protein. This was phenomenal and i am surprised it was not as popular as it should be considering it has protein and probiotics. The texture is thick and creamy, but the tartness from the mango and yogurt make it still feel light. WOULD I GO BACK? Yes! It is a nice hangout spot with a decent menu of drinks and food.
Love this cozy spot for chai! I've had their Royal chai twice now (both the hot and iced version) it's more cinnamon and saffron forward with a hint of sea salt! Delicious but I may ask for it slightly less sweet next time. I also really enjoyed the Kati roll breakfast burrito! The smoked salmon toast was great too but maybe could use some extra podi This spot is spacious and conveniently located near timeout market. The seating is cozy and would be a great place to work from. Service is also great as well and if you are seated there the chai comes in cute glassware. Will come back to try more items (the mango lassi and nimbu pani cake sounds good). Def check this spot out!
Such a cute neighborhood spot! I wish I discovered it earlier. They have fresh chai as well as Indian inspired food available. Cozy space to chill or have a casual catchup. Even better...the chai is made with plant based milk.
This was a fun, fusiony place. The food menu however was not very extensive for brunch and it's more of light cafe snacks. It's a nice place with good ambiance; however seating is rather limited. We were able to find some counter seats on a Friday morning. Ordering, payment etc was somewhat unclear. They come to get your order if you're seated. And payment too, but it's hard to get their attention since they're working up front at the cafe counter. I had a ginger chai and I was happy to see they're trying to do the pour traditional style in front of you where you sit. This was seriously strong ginger and it was amazing! Food was decent but not specially amazing. We had the Kathi-rito and Avocado Bharta Toast. Ultimately, while the names are Indianized, the food was still mostly plain burrito and avocado toast. Would have liked a bit more Indian flavors in there. Couple of things did not work. The Ginger Chai was served in a glass tumbler. It was SO HOT that you couldn't actually lift the glass. They need to use mugs with a handle. I appreciated the beautiful glassware, but I still need to be able to touch it. The cloth napkin. Omg. I have NEVER seen this. I put in my lap and my pants were lined all over with this insane lint/fuzz that was hard to get off. DO NOT place the napkin on your clothes. Repeat. DO NOT place the napkin on your clothes. DO NOT.... Finally, I got a Cutting Chai.... and the menu doesn't specify how big or small it is going to be. I was staring at a 4 oz serving when they gave it to me, hahaha. Apparently, it was written in the glossary at the back what the size was, but not on the menu where you're browsing actual menu items. I want to give it 3.75, and it's rounded to 4. Would still go back to try more things on the menu!
Super good coffee, I was really impressed! I ordered a vanilla latte with 50% syrup, and it was sooo good-- you can taste the quality espresso. I would definitely come back. Though it's expensive: $7.50 for my latte! Service was decently quick and there's tons of seating inside. Great little coffee shop if you're in the dumbo area!
An interesting restaurant with a little storefront ( Du-kaan) with wine and food choices that's rather unique . Quite a large airy, bright space with low key casual seating options , with tables , Long bench / day bed with cushions , floor cushions, bar seating as one of many seating choices . Heather was our friendly and cheerful wait staff making for a lovely interaction . Offered some suggestions from the menu and the neighborhood. Kathi-Rito was our pick for a light snack which very good . A roll with eggs and avocado a medley of other ingredients with a light dipping sauce . Cutting Chai was with it was excellent . Tea was particularly well made with a subtle note of Indian spices . Such eclectic restaurants are hard to come by and when they do it needs to be done right like Fontainhas.
Food/drinks: Been here enough times to try most of their chais and now their food! My favorite is the ginger chai and masala chai Atmosphere: Looooovveee this space & closes very late! Laptops are only allowed on the bar, lots of seating, some outlets, & has wifi Service: so sweet and friendly!! Price: $$ but I think worth it for their specialty drinks + atmosphere
Came in and said we wanted to dine in, but our orders weren't taken until after 20 minutes of waiting. We couldn't even alert the workers because they kept passing us or were busy with other people. Was a little odd but the drink we got was refreshing. Nice open atmosphere with plenty of seating. Service was meh.

cutting chai is the perfect small cup and the masala chai was really good also tried the condensed milk bun which was so light and airy and perfectly sweet the breakfast kathi-rito was also sooo good! chutney and amul cheese gave it enough flavor would be a really good place to work from too
Warm cozy cafe with a cute gift shop. They have really high end products from beauty to kitchen staples, which was nice. The cafe has a small array of snacks and teas. We tried 2 kinds of chai, one had oat milk. It was a unique experience, the barista prepares it in front of you and serves in an authentic little chai glass, which were on sale on the shop
Super cute vibe! Able to work as it's fairly quiet. We came during World Cup so currently watching semi-finals. We ordered couple cold lattes: Pistachio and Miso Salted caramel. They were both refreshing and mild in flavor and sweetness which I enjoyed. Staff members were kind and patient as we came in with our toddler. Part of the place is a restaurant/ cafe and the other sells stationary items/ grocery items like spices, wines, rice etc. They have a few kids pouches also. read more
Cute and comfortable atmosphere close to the DUMBO waterfront with lots of natural light. Seating is limited and it's quite expensive even considering NYC prices. Lovely rose and cinnamon chai, subtle and fragrant- tiny portion for the price. Good for grab-and-go in the morning if you're passing by, fast service and no queue. Also I hope they update their Google listing, as their hours are incorrect and my whole team waited in front but they don't open at 7:30am as listed. read more
Since my optimistic initial review, I've had the chance to re-visit Fontainhas a few times and sample more of the menu. I'm sad to say that this has turned out to be a disappointment, catering to the Matcha-drinking Alo-wearing DUMBO crowd. One Google reviewer referred to the cuisine here as "gentrified", which I'm inclined to agree with. The filter coffee was absolutely atrocious - one is not supposed to be asked "with or without milk?" when ordering filter coffee. The paneer sandwich was supposedly made with Amul butter, but any charming nostalgic aspect of this dish was removed by the dry layer of ghas-phus above the paneer bhurji. I am all for fusion as the propeler of culinary innovation, but I do not want to live in a future where Sweetgreen has infiltrated the foods that I hold near and dear to my heart. read more

Really enjoyed this new all-day Indian cafe/restaurant in Dumbo. Their breakfast roti and masala chai is off the charts! Could be the best breakfast sandwich I've had! Coming back for those and more of their unusual, flavorful dishes and homemade baked goods. A great spot to work from (there's WiFi) with comfy seating, tons of light, and fragrance in the air. 5 stars!!! read more

Really cool spot to hang out and relax after a long day. Their chai is good quality and flavorful. Recommend getting the cutting chai if it's your first time so that way you can get a smaller portion to try out and see if you like it before committing to a larger cup. Not sure why it's called Fontainhas (maybe something Goa related?) - kind of confusing if you walked by it or came across it on Google Maps without being in the know. read more

Such a cute Indian cafe in Dumbo! I've never been to an Indian cafe before and it was such a nice experience. They had a variety of chai teas and drinks on their menu (also has food options and wine as well if you don't want to go for only a cafe vibe). I ordered a latte since it was early and a tomato soup since I didn't want to eat much prior to a lunch reservation. The soup wa delicious and you could also add toast if you want it to be more filling. The indoor space and decor was so lovely and felt so warm and cozy. Would be a great spot to have a catch up or date or also to read a book on your own or do some work! Close by to Brooklyn bridge park if you want to go for a nice stroll afterwards. The service was quick and the staff was friendly and helpful. read more

Pretty good for the area, good middle-of-the-road Indian food with some fusion-like adjustments to make it crowd-pleasing. Breakfast kathi-rito was pretty good, other things were okay. Nice ambiance for small, low-volume hangs. read more
