They make a reg iced latte and then add this korean cereal called jolly pong. The guy working here was very nice. Also he told me that at night this place turns into a speakeasy if you can find where the door is that will take you to it. There were some pastries here but I only got the coffee. The cereal tasted like a bit sweet and caramel. It made the iced latte have some more interesting flavor to it. read more

This is a coffee spot I can't stop thinking about, and I wish I had one of their specialty coffees right now while writing this review. Many specialty coffee spots have been popping up all around Manhattan, and many have been trying to one-up each other with various flavors and combinations or revamp classic Asian sweets. Cafe Joah is an adorable coffee shop in the East Village that is a bit of a walking journey or train ride but well worth it! My friend ordered the Strawberry Matcha Latte and asked if there was a lot of sweetness inside that drink, the cashier/barista informed her that yes and that she could tone down the sweetness. I ordered the Jolly Pong Cereal Latte, which is a trending specialty drink all over social media. This cereal latte was delicious from the crunchy cereal factor and taking sips of the latte. The latte is slightly on the sweeter side but paired perfectly with the cereal. Do remember that you can ask the cashier/barista to make alterations to your drink based on the sweetness level or type of milk used. My only 'but' with this location is the door entrance, which closes abruptly and loudly. I know this is more of a repair on their end, and this doesn't affect my review of the overall service, drinks, and experience. Highly recommend taking some time to go to this location, order their specialty drinks, and chill inside (space is limited, so do keep that in mind if you are bringing a group of friends) read more

A Korean style cafe that features some standard coffee drinks but also a small selection of specialty drinks. I was intrigued by the jolly pong latte since strawberry matcha and the other ones I've tried elsewhere, so I wanted something more unique after numerous coffee shop visits. The jolly pong latte is a cereal latte - like cereal on top of latte, so it's like a caffeinated cereal and milk. It works but the flavors don't really mesh together, so get it for the novelty but not necessarily the flavor. I really wanted to drop by this cafe for their fun specialty drinks (I've tried their strawberry matcha and pandan coconut latte) and their fun store logo (I'm a sucker for cute branding). The cafe is a tiny - there are a few bar seats by the window so it's mostly a to-go place. Although the drink concepts are fun, I remember thinking the strawberry matcha was just ok, and the pandan coconut latte tasted a bit off to me and was a little too sweet (I prefer the pandan latte at Le Phin). The shop decor is cute and modern, and the shelf doubling as a door to their actual bar/restaurant was a cool idea. Did not get to try the speakeasy this place turns into so this is just for the coffee portion. JOLLYPONG LATTE Has a nice roasty, not too sweet flavor to the latte itself, and grabbing a spoon to eat the jollypong on top was a nice little treat. Def didn't feel overwhelming and certainly felt that the flavors complemented each other. Would come back to try their other drinks but def recommend and hope they stick around. REAL TALK: I've been wanting to try out Cafe Joah for a minute, as I loved their super cute tiger logo! They have coffee, espresso, tea, cold coffee, and their specialty drinks. We stopped by while in the area, and we tried the Jollypong Latte - this was an espresso latte with Jollypong cereal on top. This was just okay- not too sweet, but I think it was just hard to drink this with the cereal on top; you'd have to kind of wait until it got soggy to get more of the Jollypong sweetness to the latte; not something you could drink with a straw. I was also a little disappointed, as when I saw some of their business photos, there was merchandise that you could have purchased, but when we got there, there were only packaged coffee beans. I would have to loved to purchase a bag or a shirt, if they had those! Staff were super friendly, and the cafe, while small, was bright and inviting. Cafe Joah is a clean minimalistic coffee shop that offers classic coffees amongst other unique blends and flavors of coffee. I tried a general ice vanilla latte and the coffee felt filling, sweet, and perfectly brewed. My friend got the red ginseng latte (hot) and it was the perfect temperature to drink (warm and not scalding) with an earthy taste. The customer service was so nice, and they offer pastries as well. This korean-inspired coffee shop is one of the cutest places i've been to with the most aesthetic drinks but sadly the looks did not live up to the taste. We got the two more popular drinks-- the jolly pong latte and strawberry matcha latte-- but both were disappointing. The jolly pong latte (while absolutely beautiful) had very little flavor and was very watery. The cereal is a cute gimmick but not practical at all because once you start drinking/mixing, the cereal gets really soggy and has a really weird texture when you sip through the straw. It also doesn't add any sweetness so I felt like the presence of it didn't do anything for the drink. The strawberry matcha latte was also very beautiful but was very very watery. It didn't even taste like milky matcha... just watery matcha which was odd. The drinks are pretty expensive and while I would recommend them for a picture, the overall experience is just meh. I came upon this cute dainty Korean cafe in East Village. Upon coming in, it's small but big enough for a small crowd. Fit with some seating by the window and this cute mirror, great for Instagram photos. They have macarons for purchase ($4) and some pastries that are freshly picked up from a bakery every 2 days. Although I didn't get any, they all looked so good! Upon checking in the Yelp app, I was able to add a complimentary CBD drop in a drink purchase. I feel like I came at the right time because for a limited amount of time, they were giving out complimentary CBD full bottles. (I've always wanted to try) I'm so glad I came today! I'm not too picky, so most coffee shops feel the same to me.. but I've been meaning to come to cafe Joah for a while just because of how cute the tiger logo is. The interior is cozy: there's a small merchandise wall, a few seats along the window, and the counter where you order. It's feels quite clean and inviting. Not really a space to hang out with your friends since it's a little small. For now, there's complimentary CBD oil that you can add to your drink. The cutest new coffee shop! I love the logo (so much that l bought a shirt). There's a secret speakeasy inside (behind the merch shelf). They are planning to open a restaurant/bar in the future, but right now, you can sit there to relax and chat with friends. I got a strawberry matcha latte with oat milk - it was pretty standard, although I would prefer for it to be a little sweeter. They have lots of non-dairy substitutes for milk, including oat, pistachio, and cashew. They have a small interior space, but have tables and chairs set up outside, great for people watching! The staff was kind and even offered me some free baked goods that they had left over as it was near closing time. There are only two bar seats if you are dining in at the cafe, but through the shelf of coffee beans, you'll find a speakeasy that offers zero alcohol cocktails and food. On the menu there were so many choices (banana Nutella, ham and cheese, etc), but they only had original. The original was good but I was still disappointed. The staff that took my order and made my drink was patient and extremely kind. The strawberry matcha latte was great although I felt like there was not enough flavor to it.
