I really wanted to drop by this cafe for their fun specialty drinks (I've tried their strawberry matcha and pandan coconut latte) and their fun store logo (I'm a sucker for cute branding). The cafe is a tiny - there are a few bar seats by the window so it's mostly a to-go place. Although the drink concepts are fun, I remember thinking the strawberry matcha was just ok, and the pandan coconut latte tasted a bit off to me and was a little too sweet (I prefer the pandan latte at Le Phin). Baristas are nice though and let me grab a spare tiger sticker to go!
Another excellent café! I'm so glad NYC is seeing an increase in Asian inspired cafe's. I just love the innovative drinks they offer and we have so many of them here in LA but when I used to live in NY, there weren't any! I really enjoyed the strawberry matcha here.
Cafe Joah is a cute spot nestled inside east village, where you can grab a quick drink! The shop decor is cute and modern, and the shelf doubling as a door to their actual bar/restaurant was a cool idea. I visited during the day time though, so aside from the 2 seats by the window and a bench, seating was pretty limited. It's still a cute space though! I got the strawberry matcha, and it was the perfect drink for a hot day. The matcha was nice and strong, and they actually whisk it in-store too. They also have some cookies and pastries for sale that they get from a local bakery that looked tasty too! All in all, I would pop by again! I want to try their specialty drinks, like the pandan latte and blueberry matcha. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area!

Did not get to try the speakeasy this place turns into so this is just for the coffee portion. JOLLYPONG LATTE Has a nice roasty, not too sweet flavor to the latte itself, and grabbing a spoon to eat the jollypong on top was a nice little treat. Def didn't feel overwhelming and certainly felt that the flavors complemented each other. Would come back to try their other drinks but def recommend and hope they stick around. The actual coffee itself is nothing to write home about but their creative drinks are super cool and worth checking out. Would def come back - wishing them all the luck! Also need to try their speaeasy! Service was really nice, and it's a small charming place.
Came to Joah because I was on my way to Stuytown and it was so close! It's a cute little coffee shop with two bar seats and tasty coffee. They have coffee and matcha options and even though it's a small shop, service was still great! My barista was super nice and friendly. I was picking up a drink for my sister and the barista was patient with me as I checked with my sister on what drink she wanted. Excited to come back again some time!
i got the decaf black sesame latte! the black sesame flavor was pleasantly strong & not too sweet, and the selection of drinks, especially the pandan coconut matcha, makes me want to come back. lovely service & space, albeit limited seating. fun fact: it's also connected to a speakeasy!
REAL TALK: I've been wanting to try out Cafe Joah for a minute, as I loved their super cute tiger logo! They have coffee, espresso, tea, cold coffee, and their specialty drinks. We stopped by while in the area, and we tried the Jollypong Latte - this was an espresso latte with Jollypong cereal on top. This was just okay- not too sweet, but I think it was just hard to drink this with the cereal on top; you'd have to kind of wait until it got soggy to get more of the Jollypong sweetness to the latte; not something you could drink with a straw. I was also a little disappointed, as when I saw some of their business photos, there was merchandise that you could have purchased, but when we got there, there were only packaged coffee beans. I would have to loved to purchase a bag or a shirt, if they had those! Staff were super friendly, and the cafe, while small, was bright and inviting. There were some counter seating available as well as some tables outside, but most seem to get their orders to go. +friendly service +limited seating
And behind that unsuspecting book shelf which actually doubles as the doorway to a cool speakeasy/bar/restaurant in the back. It's a small space as most speakeasys are with tables and sofa for lounging and eats. Invited for a private event, it was actually very good. Friendly bar and wait staff, with good drinks and excellent bar food. We opted for the wings and bao buns, which both hit the spot. Not sure of the hours, but by the time we left, the place was humming. Looking for an off the beaten path speakeasy, think you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Cafe Joah is a clean minimalistic coffee shop that offers classic coffees amongst other unique blends and flavors of coffee. I tried a general ice vanilla latte and the coffee felt filling, sweet, and perfectly brewed. My friend got the red ginseng latte (hot) and it was the perfect temperature to drink (warm and not scalding) with an earthy taste. The customer service was so nice, and they offer pastries as well. There are two stool seats by the window and one small bench, definitely a place where it may be difficult to sit and chat with 3+ people. Will definitely come back to try the other drinks.
This korean-inspired coffee shop is one of the cutest places i've been to with the most aesthetic drinks but sadly the looks did not live up to the taste. We got the two more popular drinks-- the jolly pong latte and strawberry matcha latte-- but both were disappointing. The jolly pong latte (while absolutely beautiful) had very little flavor and was very watery. The cereal is a cute gimmick but not practical at all because once you start drinking/mixing, the cereal gets really soggy and has a really weird texture when you sip through the straw. It also doesn't add any sweetness so I felt like the presence of it didn't do anything for the drink. The strawberry matcha latte was also very beautiful but was very very watery. It didn't even taste like milky matcha... just watery matcha which was odd. The drinks are pretty expensive and while I would recommend them for a picture, the overall experience is just meh. I can't speak for their other drinks or pastries but at least for these two drinks I would pass
The cafe is really adorable and well-decorated. The staff was super nice as well and recommended some milk mixes that taste good! My strawberry matcha was SO good. It's sweet but not overwhelmingly so. The strawberry flavor is not artificial. I recommend it with pistachio milk. YUM!
I came upon this cute dainty Korean cafe in East Village. Upon coming in, it's small but big enough for a small crowd. Fit with some seating by the window and this cute mirror, great for Instagram photos. They have macarons for purchase ($4) and some pastries that are freshly picked up from a bakery every 2 days. Although I didn't get any, they all looked so good! Upon checking in the Yelp app, I was able to add a complimentary CBD drop in a drink purchase. I feel like I came at the right time because for a limited amount of time, they were giving out complimentary CBD full bottles. (I've always wanted to try) I'm so glad I came today! I've purchased the iced strawberry matcha latte with almond milk and it's delicious. They add strawberry purée on the bottom, milk then topped it off with the matcha. It was a good balance. I would definitely come back here again. And the barista is type good looking c:

I'm not too picky, so most coffee shops feel the same to me.. but I've been meaning to come to cafe Joah for a while just because of how cute the tiger logo is. The interior is cozy: there's a small merchandise wall, a few seats along the window, and the counter where you order. It's feels quite clean and inviting. Not really a space to hang out with your friends since it's a little small. For now, there's complimentary CBD oil that you can add to your drink. I had an iced masala chai, which was satisfying and not too sweet. I'd really like to try the cereal latte next time - didn't realize it was topped with actual cereal until I saw yelp pictures!

Small coffee shop on lower east side with one person working there atleast when I went there was only one person. I came here to try the Korean cereal iced latte. They make a reg iced latte and then add this korean cereal called jolly pong. The guy working here was very nice. Also he told me that at night this place turns into a speakeasy if you can find where the door is that will take you to it. There were some pastries here but I only got the coffee. The cereal tasted like a bit sweet and caramel. It made the iced latte have some more interesting flavor to it. read more

This is a coffee spot I can't stop thinking about, and I wish I had one of their specialty coffees right now while writing this review. Many specialty coffee spots have been popping up all around Manhattan, and many have been trying to one-up each other with various flavors and combinations or revamp classic Asian sweets. Cafe Joah is an adorable coffee shop in the East Village that is a bit of a walking journey or train ride but well worth it! My friend ordered the Strawberry Matcha Latte and asked if there was a lot of sweetness inside that drink, the cashier/barista informed her that yes and that she could tone down the sweetness. I ordered the Jolly Pong Cereal Latte, which is a trending specialty drink all over social media. This cereal latte was delicious from the crunchy cereal factor and taking sips of the latte. The latte is slightly on the sweeter side but paired perfectly with the cereal. Do remember that you can ask the cashier/barista to make alterations to your drink based on the sweetness level or type of milk used. My only 'but' with this location is the door entrance, which closes abruptly and loudly. I know this is more of a repair on their end, and this doesn't affect my review of the overall service, drinks, and experience. Highly recommend taking some time to go to this location, order their specialty drinks, and chill inside (space is limited, so do keep that in mind if you are bringing a group of friends) read more
A Korean style cafe that features some standard coffee drinks but also a small selection of specialty drinks. I was intrigued by the jolly pong latte since strawberry matcha and the other ones I've tried elsewhere, so I wanted something more unique after numerous coffee shop visits. The jolly pong latte is a cereal latte - like cereal on top of latte, so it's like a caffeinated cereal and milk. It works but the flavors don't really mesh together, so get it for the novelty but not necessarily the flavor. There is a door to a speakeasy that was open at some point during my visit, but I don't think it was open. It would be nice to come back to see what they offer there read more

The cutest little cafe with the cutest little logo. My sister and I passed by this place and it was so inviting and quaint. There is a speakeasy inside and the barista informed us that they are planning to do brunch and dinner inside. We got an iced matcha latte with oat milk and it was so creamy and tasty! The cutest new coffee shop! I love the logo (so much that l bought a shirt). There's a secret speakeasy inside (behind the merch shelf). They are planning to open a restaurant/bar in the future, but right now, you can sit there to relax and chat with friends. I got a strawberry matcha latte with oat milk - it was pretty standard, although I would prefer for it to be a little sweeter. The straws they use are bamboo(?) but they aren't the greatest and it was pretty difficult drinking the strawberry bits. I'll be back to try their toast in the future! read more

I've been to a couple coffee shops around NY trying different strawberry matcha, and Cafe Joah honestly hit the spot for me. It was so GOOD! I've been a couple times and I would also recommend trying their Jolly Pong Cereal Latte (don't know any other Korean or Asian cafe shop offering this drink) Best part? The cafe chop has a speakeasy in the back!! Great way to end the night. read more

A cute Korean cafe with a speakeasy in the back. I stopped in for a drink as I had some time to kill before heading to a dinner nearby. The staff was kind and even offered me some free baked goods that they had left over as it was near closing time. What I got: - Strawberry Matcha w/ Soy Final thoughts: The space is small but very cute. There are only two bar seats if you are dining in at the cafe, but through the shelf of coffee beans, you'll find a speakeasy that offers zero alcohol cocktails and food. My strawberry matcha was super velvety smooth, but I did find that it got a bit bland after a while. I'd stop by if I'm in the area or come to try the speakeasy, but I don't think I'd go out of my way for this cafe. read more
coffee is life in NYC and it is paramount that you explore it to its fullest. if you enjoy dark roast coffees, try the Cafe Joah's "bold as love" house blend--needs nothing added to it imo and has a nice rich flavor. there's a full menu of familiar coffee drinks as well as signature ones too. Cafe Joah is a small place, few seats inside--clean, bright, and warm to the eyes. the staff is pleasant and chill. definitely worth a stop by if you're in the neighborhood. read more

Cafe Joah has such friendly staff that helped me decide what the best drink for that time was! They are also super friendly with dietary restrictions. They have lots of non-dairy substitutes for milk, including oat, pistachio, and cashew. They have a small interior space, but have tables and chairs set up outside, great for people watching! Also, they have a speakeasy in the back which is perfect for a little late night fun. As their Jolly Pong Cereal Latte went viral, so did their mirror. Great for those Instagram pics if you want to snap one with your friends! read more

This coffee shop has great aesthetic but the coffee and drinks had a lot to be desired. The coffee was very bland and tasteless. My friend said her matcha tasted very bland as well. The croffle tasted decent but it took a very long time (20 minutes) for the waffle to be ready. I probably won't be back because there are so many other better coffee shops with better tasting drinks. read more

Cute little coffee shop that has a speakeasy in the back during the night. We got a regular iced latte and a strawberry matcha latte. The coffee was decent and the strawberry matcha was good, but a little bit sour/not sweet enough. The inside of the shop is very small, barely big enough for more than 3 parties. The only seating is 2 seats at the window counter so this is definitely a grab and go place. The barista was very quick to serve multiple customers and was easy to chat with! read more

I did not think much of it when I entered @cafejoah because the place is tiny with just a 2 people window seat. However, the coffee actually turned out to be pretty good! The muffin looking donut also looked plain in the display, but was actually yummy and went well with my latte! Definitely a good place to pick up coffee to go! read more

Unique space, lots of natural light, and the clean design makes you feel refreshed walking in every time. To top it off, the baristas are really friendly. A cute cafe that serves a variety of different drinks. When you check in on Yelp you get a complimentary drop of their CBD. The staff that took my order and made my drink was patient and extremely kind. The strawberry matcha latte was great although I felt like there was not enough flavor to it. I think the milk kind of took over majority of the drink. By adding a bit of liquid sugar, it enhanced the taste a bit more. Overall, I would definitly come back to give the other drinks a try and they have a rewards program that you can sign up for. read more
