Mat Jib is one of the "mid" choices in H-Mart Cary's "food court" and I'd probably rank it 2nd, which isn't saying much because the only excellent concession here is the #1 ranked Love Bao (Taiwanese food), which I previously reviewed. We tried both sushi rolls and corn dogs in our 3 experiences as a customer at Mat Jib before: 2 for corndogs, 1 for sushi. The sushis are nothing special here; a bit overpriced for their mediocre quality. However, we'd return to Mat Jib for its Korean corndogs. There are 4 kinds of corndogs you can choose from: 1. Potato + Hotdog (no cheese) - $8 2. Half Half (Half mozarella/ half hotdog - $7 3. Only Mozarella - $7 4. Only Hotdog - $6 As you can see, no matter what we choose, there seems to be something lacking depending on your choice. What if I want a full hotdog with cheese with my corndog? "Oh sorry, you can't have that!" What if I also want cheese if I choose the potato + hotdog option? "Oh sorry, that's not one of the choices either!" If you're going to sell a corndog for $7+, why not fill it up more? In our latest visit, we got 1 Half Half corndog to share. I was standing in front of the Mat Jib concession, waiting behind what I thought was a short line. But it turned out that those people were just waiting for their order and the employee standing in front just looked at me without saying a word. I went closer to the cashier, and ordered that Half Half corndog. She asked if I wanted ketchup and mustard placed on top of the corndog or on the side. I said on top. The service in Mat Jib was kind of slow. There were only about 2 to 3 customers waiting before me, and it took about 15 minutes for our corndog to be ready. We got the spicy popcorn chicken from Love Bao 5 minutes earlier than 1 corndog. Ridiculous! Mat Jib shares dining spaces with other food concessions here in H-Mart, so there's nothing special about its ambiance. It can get super crowded here on weekends, so it might be better to just take out a corndog or 2 than wait for vacancy. We didn't have issues finding a couple of seats on a Wednesday evening, however. We enjoyed the mozarella cheesiness of the corndog and how the breading is tasty with the mustard & ketchup. One thing that annoyed us was how the hotdog inside was little since it's half; it was more like a Vienna sausage. I got a couple of sushi rolls here recently and I was pretty disappointed. The spicy salmon roll and spicy tuna roll tasted pretty much exactly the same, and they slathered everything with spicy mayo. Hey, I like spicy mayo as much as the next guy, but it completely ruined any chance of actually tasting the sushi. The rice also tasted strangely "thick" somehow. I saw another reviewer comparing this sushi to grocery store sushi and I would say that's a pretty accurate comparison. One note is that I ordered two rolls and I couldn't finish my food, as the rolls each had 8 pieces and they were covered in spicy mayo, as previously mentioned :) So I'd maybe suggest ordering one less roll than you normally do. Wow!! So tasty!! I've been wanting to try these ever since they opened. I'm never really in this area, but i decided it was time to take a trip on over. I got the half cheese, half sausage corn dog. Amazing!! I love the sugary crunch on the outside, it's not overly sweet, it's just enough. I also like how they put honey mustard and ketchup top. My husband thought it was some fancy sauce and didn't believe me at first when I told him it was just ketchup. The cheese was my favorite part. I think next time I might go with the full cheese option. They make them fresh so you do have to wait 10-15 minutes for your order-- totally worth it. It's really not like anything else I've tried before--salty, sweet, savory, crunch, awesome! They didn't seem to be part of the intercom number system, so you really just have to listen out for your number to be called. A small (maybe 200 sq ft) space with a kitchen and a counter where you can place your order and take the meal to go (or sit in the general dining area). Besides the Sushi they have (which is pretty good for a food court), they have these 'special' items which are on a stick... Cheese, half cheese / half sausage, sweet potato, and one more that i am forgetting. These are HEAVILY fried through, but they are pretty good (as I'm told by my kids who devoured them). I'll give it to them that the potato one tasted nice and crispy (the potato part) - like a nicely fried French fry. However, even though we were starving, these hotdogs were too much. It was too much batter to actual hotdog and cheese ratio. It just became heavy and oily as we kept eating, honestly couldn't even finish it. The cheese pull is nice! For the price, I was pretty underwhelmed with the service as well as the corn dogs. Service: The guy taking orders didn't seem happy to be there, but whatever. More concerning- behind the counter there was a girl working in flip flops, who then ended up eating something in clear view with another coworker. Just seemed unsanitary (especially considering they serve raw fish... sushi) and unprofessional. She ended up serving us our food too. As for the food: The hot dogs are $3-$5 depending on which one you get. We got the potato crusted one and the ban ban (half sausage, half cheese). They're described as being topped with honey mustard and having a sausage inside. It ended up being regular yellow mustard (that's fine, but why'd they advertise honey mustard, which would have been better...) and not a sausage -- it was a kinda cheap tasting hot dog. I wasn't expecting a gourmet meal but I feel like the menu descriptions were pretty misleading. The corn dogs took around 10 minutes or so to come out. They were fresh so that was nice. The dough was pretty chewy, so it was hard to eat without ketchup or mustard. The hot dog part didn't have much flavor. I liked the potato coating texture - it was like French fries - though it didn't have any seasoning or much flavor. The only other Korean corn dog place I've been to is Chung Chun Rice Dog in Seattle Chinatown, and although Mat-Jib doesn't have as much of a variety, its quality is definitely comparable. If it's your first time trying a Korean dog, try the ban ban dog to see what you prefer--the top half is filled with warm melted mozzarella cheese, and the bottom half is the classic sausage. If you are a cheese fanatic, I would highly recommend the mozzarella cheese dog--it's just full on cheese goodness with the crunchy lightly sugar coated exterior and all of the satisfactory gooey cheese pulls. read more

Hot diggity dog! Korean style corn dogs have finally come to the triangle! This new stall is located right in the food court of H-Mart right after you enter. They serve sushi as well but we only tried their corn dogs. After binge watching so many kdramas featuring these delightful treats, I've wondered if I'd ever get an opportunity to try them. Finally, my dream has come true without having to fly to South Korea. These are not your typical state fair corn dogs, no sir. These babies will whisk you away on a fluffy cloud to sweet, sweet paradise, yes sir. If anything you could probably even call them dessert dogs. Anyone who's got a sweet tooth will fall in love with them, especially kids. The flavors we chose for our corn dogs were the original for 3 bucks and potato for 5 bucks. Both had a crispy outer coating finished off with sugar, ketchup, and a sweet tangy mustard. The potato corn dog, as the name implies, had diced potatoes coating all over the outside. Both were a good hefty size about 6 inches in length. Probably one or two would be able to fill a person up depending on how hungry they were. Taste-wise, they were pretty darn good. The batter was airy and fluffy. As mentioned earlier, with all the sweetness from the sugar and sauces going on throughout the dogs, it felt like eating a dessert. But all of that sweetness melded nicely with the saltiness of the inner hot dog. Overall, a very good snack or meal if you're in for something sweet and unique. Only reviewing the sushi and not the hotdogs. California rolls were not bad, just very bland. The spicy tuna did not taste right...both the color and texture were very off. I only ate 2 pieces, so don't get that. Price wise, it was a bit pricey for the quality, but the portion was decent. I thought the shrimp tempura roll was ok.
