Stopped by M Sushi in Fenton for lunch and wow it was so good!! When you arrive there is parking available in the lot behind sport & social or parallel on the street. Just as a heads up, some of the parking is paid by the hour. Just flagging to help avoid any parking tickets. Walking into the restaurant there are two doors when you walk through the first door. One door will lead you to m sushi and the other will lead you to the sister restaurant m tempura. We went with m sushi this time, however I definitely need to try m tempura. The restaurant feels moody, upscale and intimate. To start the meal I ordered a miso soup while looking through the menu. For starters we ordered the Crispy Rice (Spicy tuna, inari, kizami wasabi, mustard truffle soy sauce, yuzu tobiko, microgreens & avocado) and the Tuna Nigiri Trio (Akami, chutoro, otoro topped with caviar). Both starters were excellent and these are must orders. For entrees we just split a couple rolls: 1) the Truffle Seared Tuna (Shrimp tempura, spicy tuna, seared bluefin tuna, "O" sauce, soy glaze, masago, chopped chives) and 2) the "M" Special (Tempura shrimp, cucumber, avocado, spicy tuna, seared scallops, shiso, masago, chives, fried shallots, calamansi curd, soy glaze). Both rolls were excellent, tasted fresh, and the flavors were well balanced. Overall, M Sushi is still my favorite sushi restaurant in the NC triangle for the quality of food and overall ambiance/experience. My friend and I stopped by M Sushi for an early dinner after an afternoon of shopping at Fenton. Neither of us was very hungry, so sushi was the perfect light bite before heading home to our families. When we arrived, the attentive host greeted us and seated us immediately after confirming our reservation. We were seated in a cozy corner of the restaurant, and our server came over shortly afterward. She was knowledgeable, welcoming, and made sure we had everything we needed. We both ordered the rainbow roll, and my friend also had the miso soup. She was craving calamari, but unfortunately, it was not on the menu. The sushi was fresh and delicious. The restroom was clean, well stocked, and had everything you would expect. I especially loved the scent of the soap! Parking is convenient, with plenty of spaces available behind and beside the restaurant. The sushi is a little more expensive than at some other restaurants, so be prepared to spend a bit more. M Sushi at Fenton is definitely an experience! If you appreciate really fresh sushi and beautiful presentation, this is one of those places where you can immediately tell they take their food seriously. The restaurant itself has a very intimate, modern and upscale feel, which makes it perfect for a date night or when you just want something a little nicer than your typical sushi spot. The service was attentive, and I appreciated that everything felt intentional--from the presentation to the pacing of the meal. The sushi was incredibly fresh, and I love that you can keep things fairly traditional with nigiri and sashimi or venture out and try some of their more creative specialty rolls and small plates. Everything is presented beautifully, so of course you're going to take a picture before you touch it. Now, M Sushi is definitely on the pricier side, so this wouldn't necessarily be my casual Tuesday-night sushi run. But for the quality, atmosphere and overall experience, I understand why it has the reputation it does. My view on sushi as a whole has completely changed...in an absolutely amazing way. Omakase Style: basically translates over as "I leave it up to you." The chef curates a multi course and highly personalized tasting menu. My wife and I had the pleasure to partake in this unbelievable experience for our 21st anniversary, and it was hands down one of the best meals we've ever had. Not this month, not just sushi, not just in NC...but one of the top meals of all time anywhere. We had the Grand Omakase, which came out to 10 courses in total. I won't go into detail on each and every course, but let's just say that each and every course was of the highest quality fish, sushi or meat we've had anywhere. From the sushi flown out straight from Japan, to the beluga caviar and A5 Wagyu, and everything in between. We've had sushi across the nation and overseas, 100s of times. This has taken the top #1 spot out of all of them, especially with what we were served in the Grand Omakase package. Impeccable service, 8 sushi chefs all working efficiently at once in an open style sushi kitchen, all within a classy (but not pretentious by any means) establishment. M Sushi is the talk of the town with high recommendations and a "must go" reputation, so of course it's one of the first places I try since moving to Cary. Sadly, I am sorely disappointed. Hailing from Florida, I'm used to high quality raw fish and M Sushi does not deliver this. Claiming they source their fish from Japan may be true, but I question how they store and prepare the fish, as it did not taste fresh. I tried the chirashi bowl, which was not what I was expecting: served on vinegar rice and shaved tomago, the fish was cut into chunks, not the thin slices well trained sushi chefs deliver. The fish tasted bad. Their sushi rolls can make up for the fish flavor by adding over powering ingredients, but their mismatched flavors, like spicy tuna and some kind of fruit sauce, didn't work. The only good thing I had was the truffle white fish dumplings, they were spectacular. Which makes me think I might still enjoy the other M restaurants. Sorry guys, this place just isn't it. She was funny attentive and so kind. She recommended some unique Sake options, The Pink Lady was my favorite and faintly tasted like rose. Grabbed dinner here for a recent celebration and had a good time. First, I was a little disappointed that no one was present at the front desk when we walked in, and we had to wait a couple of minutes for someone to greet us. Just seems a little odd for a restaurant as nice as M Sushi to drop the ball on something this simple, but whatever. Otherwise, the staff were super nice throughout our meal, including our server. We were seated at a standard table (one booth seat, one chair) and I immediately noticed how long the table was between me and my wife. Nothing crazy but it did make the meal slightly less intimate somehow, and it also made it a little harder to hear each other. The tables were also quite close together, so it felt a little bit "NYC" somehow :) Not terrible but I guess I wouldn't consider it a super romantic spot. The all-black vibes were pretty interesting, though, and the walls kind of looked like volcanic rock or something. We booked the Grand Omakase for our table of two, so we were served a whole bunch of courses :) I was actually surprised at how quickly the food was brought out. I was expecting our dinner to last at least 2 hours, but we were there for only 1.5. I think I would have preferred a slightly slower pace, but the amount of food wasn't too overbearing at least, since each dish was quite small. My absolute favorite was the caviar with the fatty tuna tartare, but the sashimi and nigiri were also super tasty and fresh. Drink-wise, the beer menu was OK - I got something light to avoid overpowering the food, but I probably should have ordered sake instead. My wife got a glass of Riesling and I thought it was kind of yucky but I'm not a big wine person so take that opinion with a grain of salt :) Our bill ended up being nearly $500 after tax and tip, as the Grand Omakase was $165 a person. M Sushi is probably one of the best sushi establishments in the Triangle area. They offer a few different Omakase options as well as a la carte services. They are not cheap but the sushi is great quality. We had a reservation and it was fairly busy the night we came. We had gone to a few Omakases before so we're familiar with the process but our server did a great job at explaining everything and explaining the different cuts of fish. We didn't sit at the bar for the full experience but everything else was very good. They also offer a variety of drinks as well. The inside can be a bit crowded during peak dinner times so plan for that. It's a bit dark inside and goes for kind of like a night bar vibe. The bathrooms are nice. Once the Omakase is over you can order a la carte. Definitely one of the best if not best sushi options in the Triangle. They also have a location in Downtown Durham. read more

This was my first time coming here, and having heard all of the hype from my wife about this place, we decided to pop in for a weekday lunch. Arriving not long after the restaurant opened for the day, we were comfortably able to grab a table. But I noticed the seats began filling up during peak lunchtime and by the time we left, there was a slight wait. I ordered the sushi deluxe lunch combo, which comes with 8 pieces of chef's choice nigiri, alongside a sea trout and avocado roll and miso soup. Every bite was a savory adventure and totally worth the splurge. The service was fantastic and my water was topped off plenty of times throughout the meal. One of the celebratory events that we planned for my daughter's graduation from college was to have dinner at M Sushi. My son heard about them on social media and made reservations a couple weeks back. My daughter's graduation was yesterday so our reservation to M sushi was last night. Our original reservations were for 8:00 pm, but due to graduation activity delays, we called in to have the reservation changed to 8:45 pm. We didn't have any complications changing the time. We arrived a bit earlier than expected; however, our table was not yet ready, so we went across the street to another restaurant to have some drinks. We came back at exactly 8:45 pm, but our table was still not ready. We ended up waiting another 15 to 20 minutes before our table was ready. The ambience in this restaurant was nice and had a modernized feel and look. It is not a spacious restaurant. We ordered several things from the menu: Small Plates - Edamame and Scallops; Maki - Truffle Seared Tuna, M Special, Spider Roll, Dynamite Roll, and California Roll; Nigiri - Shime Saba House Cured Japanese Mackerel; Specialty Drinks. No one in our party liked the scallops. They did not taste fresh and did not have the seafood flavor. It was a bit bland and the texture seemed off. It was a little better with the sauce but still nothing that was appealing to anyone at the table. The edamame was good, but needed some sea salt on the top or mixed in consistently as only the ones on the bottom had the flavor of sea salt. The Maki we enjoyed. While they all tasted good, our favorites were the Truffle Seared Tuna, the Dynamite Roll, and the M Special. The Truffle Seared Tuna was unbelievable. It tasted fresh and was the most flavorful of all the other Maki. My ultimate favorite dish of the night was the Nigiri Shime Saba House Cured Japanese Mackerel. This was hands-down the most flavorful and best tasting dish. The texture was perfect, and it almost felt like it melted in your mouth. It was incredibly good. Overall, we enjoyed all the dishes we ordered with the exception of the scallops. Pretty solid sushi spot with nice ambiance & service when we visited for lunch! I came with a party of 5 and we had made a reservation ahead of time so there was no wait, but the restaurant wasn't too busy during lunchtime. Unfortunately, two of the people in our party accidentally went to the Durham location so they had to trek all the way over to this location in Cary which delayed them by quite a bit. Our server was so gracious when we explained what had happened, and we didn't feel rushed throughout our meal at all. We shared the tuna crispy rice and crudo to start and both were tasty. I really enjoyed the combination of flavors for the crudo, though I have had better tuna crispy rice at other establishments. For my main entree, I got their M special roll which came with a sea trout / avocado roll as well as part of their lunch combo. The fish here is definitely fresh and high quality, and I like that their specialty rolls aren't too over the top -- it really lets the ingredients shine! The others ordered a variety of different items ranging from nigiri to other Japanese fare including the gyudon and curry udon. Went out for a girls dinner this will be my last time, I called earlier to make sure that reservations were not needed. Spoke to Alex, told him I was on my way. I got there sat down ordered food the waitress was just OK. Not friendly seemed like we disappointed her by not getting drinks. The bill was not cheap it was only two of us and it was $159. I was overnight near Raleigh and asked the hotel front desk for a list of recommendations. He gave me a printout of restaurants nearby and I noticed one named M Sushi. Since I love good sushi I asked him about it. He smiled and said it was great, reasonable and had wonderful food. I tried it and he was absolutely right on! M Sushi is a gem located in the Fenton District near Cary. The food was very fresh, I had Yellowtail Nigrini and the M Sushi special roll. It was outstanding! In addition it was after 8 when I arrived, the place Closes at 9:30 but I was never rushed. I ate at the bar, being by myself, and the bartender was very courteous and friendly she took very good care to make sure I had everything I needed. I got plenty of soy sauce, wasabi and ginger root! Final bill was $37 with tax, which is very reasonable and the food was really more than I could eat(but I did anyway because it tasted so fresh). Another M restaurant down in the book, M Sushi! This was obviously one of the first restaurants I wanted to try post-pregnancy, and typical of the M restaurants, it did not disappoint! I loved the modern decor, especially the back wall made of rock. Our server was upbeat, knowledgeable of the menu, and had great recommendations. Per our server recommendation, we started off with the crispy rice and scallop small plates, which may have been my favorite part of the meal. The scallops were lightly fried so that they were still raw in the middle - the crunch on the outside was exceptional paired along with the smooth bite from the inside. The crispy rice was definitely my husband's favorite - The rice was incredibly crisp and the tuna and sauces on top packed in a powerful flavorful bite. We opted for the Truffle Seared Tuna and M Special makis, which both had wonderfully cooked sushi rice and were wrapped well. The quality of seafood here is incredible. My gosh, I could eat at this place everyday if I could! The service is amazing! I've had Hadley and Ning Ning as servers and they are amazing! Kind, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Same dark and chic vibe, but I prefer the aesthetic in Durham a little more, it feels more intimate, if that makes sense. M has consistently good sushi. I'm always happy with the omakase. To the point that, that's pretty much all we order. You can add on à La carte if you want, so we usually add uni, but you don't really need to, as it is plenty of food. My preference is to sit at the sushi bar, but they have table service too. You're in for a lot of food, during a dinner rush it can feel very leisurely, but it is just really well timed out. That said, I would not come here for a quick meal. It's more of an evening out experience. I wish Yelp allowed half stars bc it's more of a 4.5 for me than a 4, but it's still a great place for a date. read more

There is a vegan bento box which has several different options including vegetarian sushi, a potato croquette, dumplings and much more. It was delicious and very filling! *So* sorely disappointed...sigh. I only recently heard about the Fenton development in Cary. I had a midday class very near there and was encouraged to see the many restaurants that were part of the community. Always open to trying new places, I thought I would head over for lunch after my class. I *love* sushi; reasonably enough, then, I selected M Sushi as my lunch destination. I was also swayed by the rave reviews they garnered on Yelp and elsewhere, as well as a first-person thumbs-up from an acquaintance. I arrived shortly after they opened for lunch and in fact was their first customer. As you'll see from the enclosed photo, seating is limited to a row of tables against the wall and at the sushi bar. (As you'll also see, the pic was taken after a few more guests had arrived.) I was seated at the corner table closest to the front of the restaurant. That was fine. My first issue was with the ambience. I think this was a case of there being a difference between what kind of space works for lunch vs. dinner. The dining area at M Sushi-Cary is a small, subtly lit space; there is no natural light (i.e., no windows to the outside world). That probably works just great at dinnertime, but no so much at lunchtime. I thought it made the small-ish room seem borderline claustrophobic. The next issue had to do with my server, a very friendly young woman whose name I will not share in the hopes that my issue with her was not attributable to her personally, but perhaps was due to the restaurant requiring certain behavior of their wait staff (although I can't imagine why it would be). My server repeatedly called me "my dear" and "my love." I am 65 years old. If anyone is going to call anyone "my dear" - let alone "my love"! - the roles should be reversed. I find that behavior incredibly unprofessional - especially in an upscale restaurant - not to mention patronizing. Yes, I could simply have said, "Please don't call me 'my dear' or 'my love'," but I think that would just have made the rest of the meal awkward. Onto the food! I had a perfectly fine glass of prosecco, the seaweed salad and the tuna roll with cucumber. I thought the seaweed salad was overpriced. Although it may appear as a generous portion in the photo, I believe that was due to its sitting on top of a bed of lettuce leaves. Other than that, it was a typical, fine seaweed salad. I was a bit disappointed in the tuna roll, but that was probably my own fault for not ordering something more adventurous/flavor-forward. All in all, I felt let down by M Sushi. I perhaps could be persuaded to return for dinner sometime, but will rule them out for future lunches. read more

So we go out to eat a lot. And Japanese food is what I loved. Took my wife for an nigiri omasake experience. So first off, we came to the wrong door. And the restaurant is on the other side. So for the experience, it was just too loud, too busy for an omakase experience. I would recommend that the restaurant make a quiet experience for omasake. Loved the smoke old fashion and my wife had the cab. For the nigiri itself, well - it was a 2 . Fish seems fresh, but I think they used different parts of the same fish here and there. For the fish itself, u barely could taste the fish because of the amount of sauce in the rice and on the fish! Omasake should always be the top chef! I'm so glad M Sushi opened a location in Cary. I came here for lunch on a Wednesday and it wasn't super busy, thankfully. We didn't have a reservation but was seated promptly when we arrived. My wife and I got seats at the bar so we could watch the food being prepared. I ordered the Chirashi Combo while my wife got the Sushi Deluxe Combo. The Chirashi was delicious - the amount of fish was very generous, the quality was great, and the price was very much worth it. It also came with a miso soup. My wife's Sushi Deluxe Combo had 6 pieces of nigiri and a sushi roll, and also came with a miso soup. The food was great, the service was friendly, helpful, and prompt, and the space is nice, new, and clean. Parking at Fenton is convenient, but may be a bit of a walk depending on where you park. New and better This place is a revamp of the msushi of Durham and it is excellent. The decour is glossy and new. The nigiri omakase experience is probs one of the best in the area. The chawamushi starter was excellent - savory with a pudding like texture. The first 8 pieces of nigiri was delicious - loved the yellow tail, fatty tuna, and trout. The last 4 were not my favorite - namely the scallop and the eel. Ended things off with a crispy handroll which was very tasty tho a tad oily. Really high quality fish and rolls. It has a darker ambiance and the seating is a bit too close quarters for my taste. Even though the rolls were delicious, it was a bit pricey for what it was. I asked to substitute out crab for fish and got upcharged $4 which I felt was ridiculous read more
