The shooters are amazing!!! They also have items that are flown in straight from Japan!

Hands down one of my top 3 favorites in the Triangle. Bird the owner and head sushi chef is an expect in all things sushi! The quality and freshness can't be beat. The main focus is sushi, not any other distractions like Thai food on the menu. If you're looking for real sushi and want options you're not gonna find at any other "sushi" places... this is the place to head to. Don't let the gas station deter you... It's super cute inside! You'll thank me later!!! @theyumyumgirl

Always a great experience. Wonderful people and amazing food. Every time I have a friend visit I take them here. My whole family goes here. So go to place for date night, celebration, and just when we are craving good food.

We went at peak time on a Saturday night and had to wait 50 minutes for a table of 8. They were very courteous and accommodating. The food was delicious, although the complexity of the flavor profile masked the freshness of the fish. I was really impressed by the quality of what I paid for, so five stars all around. The decor and atmosphere were really cool, and the service was good as well! I liked the Shishito roll, Phat Boy roll, and king salmon appetizer the most. The Yuzu Japanese cheesecake was lightly sweet.

The food here was absolutely delicious! Seriously, everything we ordered was top-notch. The service was also incredibly fantastic; they really went above and beyond. We were celebrating a birthday, and the ice cream presentation was just spectacular. We'll definitely be back again soon!

Get there before they open to avoid long waits but they are totally worth it. Everyone is so kind and works to make it efficient as possible. It's a small space and they have a cult following. Be prepared to wait. Parking is horrible because they are connected to a gas station. Again worth it. I love the rolls but their lunch specials are great because they come with a soup and salad. The signature rolls are great, king salmon and voodoo are my favorite. It's my favorite sushi place. FYI on weekends and Friday dinner they do not do to go orders. During the week they are easy to order to go on the toast app.

Overall: I originally only came for the novelty of it being a "gas station sushi spot" but I was surprised with how high quality the sushi was. A really cool spot! Food: The sushi here is all really fresh and they offer fairly generous cuts. Good tastes overall and nice flavor balancing on the rolls. Service: The wait is a bit long since they don't have many seats and this place is a bit popular. Try to come at off hours if you want the skip the line. Ambiance: This is a lively sit-down place, suitable for a casual date night. I highly suggest entering or exiting at least once via the gas station doors. Just walk in the Han-Dee Hugo and head towards the bathrooms, there will be another door at the end of the hallway that leads you to Akami.

Don't let the "gas station" name sway or fool you into thinking any kind of way because this sushi is the real deal and very good. My friend had been wanting to take me here for a long time and I can't wait to go back. The sushi here is definitely the best I've ever experienced. It's fresh, flavorful prepared well.

Seeing all the staff, and how their greetings is always welcoming to everyone sitting down The only sushi we eat. We appreciated the extra welcoming today. Thank you Bird and Team

I had the VooDoo, King Salmon and the Hamachi & Scallion...my son had the TarTar, Toro Scallion hand roll, Phat Boy, spicy Salmon and Spicy Tuna. Along with some Hot Sake, a Asahi and Sapporo. Best Sushi in North Carolina for sure. Much Love and Aloha to the owner and crew.

The eel jalapeno up front was the best sushi I've ever had! Sat at the sushi table and had green tee (refillable) with the hibachi torch. The experience was so wonderful, its the next day and I'm still thinking about it.

This place looks unassuming from the outside, since it's attached to a gas station, but that's why you don't judge a book by its cover! Akami has great quality sushi for a very reasonable price. My wife and I came for lunch on a Monday, and the place was relatively quiet, but there were already a good number of take out orders being prepared. We were promptly seated at the bar (by request) and given drinks. I ordered the Sushi & Sashimi from their lunch menu: 3 piece Nigiri (I ended up with Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi / Yellowtail), 6 piece Sashimi (Tuna, Salmon, Escolar), and California Roll. The fish was all very tasty, good quality, and generous portion size. It also included a miso soup and salad. My wife ordered the Rainbow Roll Combo from the lunch menu: Rainbow Roll (Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi, Escolar on top of a California Roll) with 4 piece Nigiri (She ended up with Tuna, Salmon, Hamachi, Escolar). She also enjoyed her order and was very full (I helped her finish her sushi). The service was very quick and friendly. The space is small, but very clean and good for smaller groups. The bathroom is shared with the gas station, so that would be my only critique - it was a typical gas station bathroom. But overall, I enjoyed the food and the dining experience here. I hope to come back to try some other things in the future!

I absolutely love this place! Sushi in a gas station? I know right, I thought the same thing. I found this restaurant on Yelp and put it straight in the GPS based on its reviews. As we pulled up, all I saw was a gas station and immediately felt confusion. We noticed the entrance on the side of the building and parked. The entry to Akami is inviting. We had to wait for a table, but it was not a long wait. The restaurant includes a bar area where you can sit and watch the owners/chefs make your order right in front of you. The menu is full of options for those that like raw or sushi with cooked items. We ordered the Miso soup, Prawn Shumai, Dragon Roll, Spider Roll and the Shrimp Tempura Roll. Everything, and I mean everything we ordered was full of flavor. This place has the best sushi that I have ever eaten! Hands down! Eating sushi at a gas station = my new favorite place! You HAVE to try this place. This is not sushi in a plastic tray, this is sushi made to excite your tastebuds.

    Do they do BOGO?

No. But the quality is well worth the price.

Has anyone had the Omakase (Chefs Choice)? What did they serve? 18 courses for $80 is a steal considering the quality of fish.

Yes -had it last night! Amazing !!!!

あん肝 Ankimo with thinly sliced green onions and momiji oroshi, seasoned with red chili pepper, and drizzled with ponzu sauce?

Do they serve alcohol? Particularly, hot sake?

Yes, they have their license and sell beer, saki and wine.

My wife and I booked a reservation for 5:30 PM, and the booking system was a little strange. First, you have to wait for the restaurant to confirm your reservation, so you're basically just submitting a request. Also, there's an "Assignments" selection in the reservation form which has a possible value of 1, 2, or 3. No idea what it means so I left it blank. Then, the next day, we received a curt text telling us that our reservation was confirmed and that they would only hold our table for 5 minutes. I mean, geez, I get it, but how hard is it to say "Thank you for dining with us!" or something to that effect? Not a huge deal, obviously, but kind of funny :) Our server did a pretty good job throughout the meal. The food was prepared quickly and it was very good! My two sushi rolls were very tasty, and my wife's sashimi was definitely fresh. Because we ate there in the late afternoon, there were also some happy hour specials that I appreciated ($13 for any specialty roll, and $6 for certain beers). The beer selection wasn't bad at all, and of course they had sake as well. Overall, we had a really good time at Sushi Suyu and would definitely come back!

I did not care for sushi because I was there for Ramen. Besides, they have a vegetarian Ramen is what I was looking for, my daughter ordered a teriyaki Ramen. My vegetarian Ramen had a lot of tempura in it, which defeated the purpose a little bit for me because it was a little oily. The boys went with miso soup, which was flavorful but came out lava hot. Like, ice-cube-required hot. Tasty, but proceed with caution if you have kids. For sushi, we kept it simple and solid with a mix of one classic and two specialty rolls: Spicy Tuna, Phoenix, and the Crunchy Roll. All were fresh, well-made, and hit the spot. Crispy Salmon Roll was light and refreshing and their Rainbow Roll was like no other I've had. She was so kind and was the absolute best part of our visit. She gave a range recommendations, very professional, and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy the meal. We are coming from the Irvine, CA area so we VERY familiar with top tier Asian food and possibly that impacted our standards vs others in the review section. Now on to the rest, there were so many flies that I ended up having to smash them on the window with a napkin--just gross! Then, my son's food was not flavored well at all and had HAIR in his noodles! The Pad Thai was really bad! It was a lighter color first of all, so maybe they added an ingredient that isn't standard in traditional Pad Thai, but it did not make it better at all; I could barely stomach it. Then, there was a huge egg shell in the dish that somehow the cook let come out and served to us. The sweet and sour chicken portion was outrageously small for a dinner portion, and the dish was smothered with sauce but somehow the chicken was dry as if it was day old or several days old chicken. The cashew chicken, the same, dry chicken that was being covered up with the sauce and we had to chew a great deal. The sweet tea, it just tasted like they put a bunch of sugar packets in and was worse than a McDonald's sweet tea. Their white rice was not moist at all and we could've just done without it. Out of the sushi we ordered, the spicy tuna was good, but the rest was grocery store quality sushi and extremely small portion. In my opinion, people rave about this place because it is 'different' and plays into an upscale restaurant as you can see with their overpriced items. This place doesn't hold a candle to shopping center Thai fusion in California. I have lived in many states and am not a snotty Californian, but man oh man I can tell you this one is a fail. The only star for this visit goes to the waitress (she was a 5) but if I could give this a zero for the food, I would. Don't waste your time or money.

Not this month, not just sushi, not just in NC...but one of the top meals of all time anywhere. We had the Grand Omakase, which came out to 10 courses in total. I won't go into detail on each and every course, but let's just say that each and every course was of the highest quality fish, sushi or meat we've had anywhere. From the sushi flown out straight from Japan, to the beluga caviar and A5 Wagyu, and everything in between. We've had sushi across the nation and overseas, 100s of times. This has taken the top #1 spot out of all of them, especially with what we were served in the Grand Omakase package. Impeccable service, 8 sushi chefs all working efficiently at once in an open style sushi kitchen, all within a classy (but not pretentious by any means) establishment.
