This restaurant was recommended by the concierge at The St Regis Hotel where we are currently staying in Florence, Italy. The restaurant is about a 5 min walk from our hotel. The area is pretty safe and fun to walk as it is tourist oriented with multiple shops and plenty to see and do. Great ambiance, we were greeted and sat down at a table immediately when we arrived. The waiter was helpful and provided good service. The food was great! My wife and I enjoyed our plates and even decided to trade half way through meal to experience both dishes. Luci ordered pasta fagioli, I have made pasta fagioli in the past as a good friend of mine had taught me how to make it. This dish was delicious and well seasoned, the consistency was a bit thick but I actually loved it. I ordered a Penne Pasta with shrimp and fresh tomatoes. The pasta was al dente, the shrimp and sauce was delicious with a hint of spiciness which created a great balance of flavor. We ordered a bottle if house table wine to enjoy with our dinner. At first, I was not sure about the wine, once it aired out for 15 mins it was great! We definitely enjoyed our dinner. At the end we were given a complementary shot of limoncello. Delicious as well. Excellent food, service and a casual ambiance. Great selection of wines on the wine menu (Chianti Classico for me!!). Pasta all the way for our group but the selection of pizzas looked great too! I had Pappardelle al Ragu Bianca Toscano which was very flavorful! It wasn't a cream-based sauce nor did it have tomato but it was so flavorful! We ate here on our 2nd / last night in Florence. It was about 5 blocks from our hotel and probably about 3 from the entrance to the train station. There seemed to be a true interior dining room and also a well-enclosed sidewalk/patio dining area (heated, I assume). We opted for inside. I don't recall any one thing that distinguishes this spot in my memory. It was similar to 2 or 3 other places we had eaten in Italy. That isn't a criticism, but when you are travelling and have little frame of reference, similar places sometims run together. The interior decor at multiple Italian places was surprisingly similar, though they had no business relationship to each other. The food here was good. I got lasagna, my daughter got a differnet noodle dish, and my wife got a steak. We all split a salad. I had a glass of Pino Gris too. I'd consider coming back here for a meal if I were in Florence again. read more

Our evening meal in Florence. Found this place, one previously visited by our vacationing partners Steve and Carol. Greeted and took a table for four outside. Florence evening was perfect and the dinner exceeded that as well. Surprisingly, two of us ordered the Gnoochi, while other two ordered the Tagliatelle with Boletus Mushrooms. After being served some warm bread and various dipping sauces, our plates arrived hot and ready to be consumed! You can always tell when dinners are exceptional when dinner conversation takes a back seat to eating and enjoying the plate. They were both fantastic. Two desertsvwere split by each couple and such a great finish to a wonderful meal. But I would be remiss if I did not mention our server. It is a shame we did not get his name because he made our dining experience so much more fun! He helped us with "our" Italian while having fun with us as well. We ate there several times and I asked the waiter for recommendations and each dish was delicious. Not a fan! The glasses smelled like mildew, most likely from towels that were mildewed. When I complained I was told that no one smelled it but me and then my wine from the mildewed glass was poured into another glass that smelled equally as bad. This was not my favorite restaurant in Florence . I won't be back. It's a convenient place near our flat but it would be better to walk further and find a place that is decent. We came to have some wine and stayed for dinner. Mason was a perfect place to spend our last night in Florence. It was a rainy cold night and we had vegetable soup and my wife had prawn soup, which was actually the best. We then moved on to a calzone which we split and it was a good size for a split. Right across the street from the Grand Hotel Adriatico sits Maso. There are several hotels right around it, so yes you will get a lot of tourists. I didn't find it to be lacking in service, quality dishes or anything else that, that label sometimes denotes. I had the spaghetti carbonara and it was out of this world buttery with plenty of pancetta to give it a salty kick. Our waiter was attentive and helpful. I found the atmosphere low key. They went above and beyond to accommodate an allergy I have, and it was a much needed place to stop and enjoy a beautiful meal after a very busy day! My boyfriend and I went here for dinner one night because it was close to our hotel and had gotten positive reviews from our tour guide. Atmosphere: Romantic, Italian, maybe a little rustic. The red napkins on the table really popped. There is plenty of seating, although you do run into the typical the-tables-are-too-close issue that is part of Italian dinning culture. Luckily, we went at a quiet time and there were not many people in the restaurant so we were not bothered by this. There is both indoor and outdoor eating. It was too cold to eat outside, so we opted for an indoor table. There was good lighting, both overhead and natural. There are windows along the front so some tables get a great view of the street. The place seemed clean and well kept. I bet during peak hours it gets pretty crazy in there.... Service: We were sat immediately as the restaurant was not very crowded. Our waiter was nice enough, spoke very good English. He took our order in a matter of minutes and brought our drinks promptly. The wait for the food was average. One thing I will say that was super weird was that they brought my boyfriend's pasta dish out about five minutes before my pizza came out. They did not check in with us and we had to ask for our bill, which is all normal in Italy. We were thanked on the way out. Food: The menu was definitely strictly Italian food. Most of the things on the menu were typical of the other Italian restaurants we had visited. My boyfriend got the carbonara. which he really enjoyed. The pasta tasted fresh and homemade, the cream sauce was flavorful and the pieces of prosciutto added a nice salty touch. The portion was huge and he struggled to even finish (not typical of him). I ordered a margarita pizza. The crust was thin, had big dough bubbles, and multiple burnt spots. The ratio of sauce to cheese was really off as there was WAY WAY WAY too much cheese on the pizza and hardly any sauce. The sauce I did taste seemed like it would be really good but all the cheese drowned it out and made it really greasy. I had to steal the napkin from the table next to us. I am sad to say the pizza was quite the let down especially after hearing that they had good pizza. Portion wise it is a big pizza. I was unable to finish it partly due to size, but also just to quality. Cost: Reasonable. I think we spent around 30 euros for the pasta, pizza, a beer, and a soda. The portions really are big so you get your money's worth. Reading over everyone else's reviews I feel like maybe I just had a bad experience personally? My boyfriend really enjoyed his dish. Some of the other people from our tour group ate there and reported good things as well. If I went again I would stay away from the pizza (even though pizza is my favorite food ever) and order something different..... read more

Great! We were out hunting any restaurant open on the Ascension holiday. This place had one of the street-parking patios that are common in Florence and we sat down after the friendly owner greeted us as we read the menu. Service is very attentive and friendly. They took great care of us. The menu is expansive without being annoyingly so. Great range of typical Italian/Tuscan favorites. We started with the house red, a steal at 19 euros. Then we had the vegetable "spicy" soup that wasn't spicy and wasn't really a soup. But it was *very* delicious. I almost couldn't stop eating it but I knew we had a lot more coming. Our 6 year old had the lasagna which is not a cake like in the US, more of a large noodle pasta dish with meat. Very similar. Their version had great flavor and was excellent! Our mains were the spaghetti with cherry tomatoes. Simple, delicious tomato flavor with a little oil and perfectly al-dente pasta. Fantastic. We also had the Tuscan beef on a bed of arugula. Also fantastic. We finished things off with the tartufo, very good, and coffees - equally so. The price for this meal was a steal. This place was so great, I had to come here twice in the few days I was spending in Florence. The staff is extremely welcoming and exceptional with providing stellar recommendations with their food. I was told to give the Maso pizza a try and it did. It disappoint. Several meats atop fresh mozzarella on a thin crust paired with a local beer and you have it made! The staff enjoys making conversation with the patrons and you really do feel at home at this restaurant. Very easy to find and you can sit outside under the canopy or inside to take advantage of the air conditioning. Two thumbs up!! read more
