This restaurant is absolutely a MUST visit when in Florence. We felt taken care of from the beginning to the very end. The restaurant is casual, cozy, has a warming vibe and the people are one of the nicest people we ever met in the restaurant. They have nice selection of wine to start off the delicious dinner. The amuse bouche given from the chef was definitely nice touch and was an essence of meat sauce flavor. For the start we took selection of Tuscan meats which was deep in flavor, well cured and different textures of meat. Il Vezzo as many Florence restaurants offer famous Steak a la Florentina which was undoubtedly one of the best steaks we have ever had. It has its distinctive flavor thanks to the cows being pastured in that specific area. One steak should serve two people as a main dish of the dinner. We laso tried their artichoke witch chickpeas an potato terrine which was fantastic. I liked the way of serving which was a traditional dish constructed in the modern way. Great meal in Italy! Definitely recommend. Ambiance is casual, rustic, intimate. My husband and I shared the scallop appetizer, ravioli, and Pappardelle. Everything was delicious. My husband said it was some of the best pappardelle he has had. The tiramisu was just okay. The bottle we shared of red was delicious. My only reasons for 4/5 was the a/c was out which honestly is uncomfortable when you're eating. The two gentlemen working were very nice but they were clearly busy because they could hardly check in on us. Guests adjacent to us had their pasta portions split for them but we didn't which I also would've much preferred. I would give them a 4.5/5 if I could. All in all, great food and experience. I'd give 10 stars if I could. This is one of the best dinning experience we've ever had. We were charmed as soon as we walked in by the decor, ambiance, music, lighting. It was both elegant and welcoming. We were greeted warmly by our amazing servers Oli and Julia. They took care of us with such warmth and fun. We laughed and shared good vibes. Not to mention that Oli was clearly knowledgable about the menu and her recommendations were spot on. And the food...stellar. First meal I had when getting into Florence and probably my favorite even though we also went to other restaurants in Florence that are highly revered. The appetizer of scallops on top of braised leeks and the best hollandaise I've ever had was one of the best appetizers I've had in a very long time. I ordered the filet and my wife ordered the cannelloni pasta which was also very good. The tiramisu was also really good I just wish it had more ladyfingers in the bottom of the cup. This place deserves beyond 5 stars. Tip: make a reservation. Everything served is perfect. Not only the main dishes (cauliflower soup, ravioli, duck, steak, etc.), but also the free house-made fresh bread (so so good!), the free appetizer, and the desserts! This place is all about local traditional ingredients and recipes with a slight modern twist and presentation. When you see a limited menu (I think only four items are under each category), you know it is a place that takes their items served seriously. I was told that they are starting a garden so will be serving salad from there in a few weeks, while the salad I had was already the best I had in my life - perfectly fresh and cut to maximize your enjoyment. I didn't drink but it seems that other guests enjoyed the wine pairing recommendations greatly. Service is excellent. One of the co-owners runs the front of the house and speaks perfect English and will accommodate whatever you request may be to the best they can. In my case, they got a small piece of steak so I could enjoy a Fiorentina steak by myself. Given the way the food is prepared - such as pasta is made to order, there could be a wait in between dishes. Please be patient. Good food doesn't come fast. Ambiance is nice as well. It is a small and intimate place with a lot of nice little details for decoration. Most guests are considerate enough to not talk too loudly so it is perfect for date nights as well. I made a reservation 2 days in advance, and was able to reserve my preferred dinner time. The people are welcoming, the ambiance is a casual, rustic, Italian vibe. It's intimate. My companion and I felt cozy and relaxed. The amuse-bouche of cauliflower soup with lobster sauce was delicate and delicious. We then shared a side salad, and ravioli. The side salad was great, with fresh with perfect tomatoes. The ravioli was not only plated like a work of art, but presented itself before it arrived at our table as we could smell the aroma of sage and butter. The ravioli flavor was fantastic and one I'll remember for a long time. We then had to try the Florentine steak. It was also good but had a lot of gristle which I don't like - I would up throwing away as more or more that I ate even because it was so gristly. The steak alone costed more than all of our other plates and our wine. So needless to say i had hoped for a better quality. That is the reason I deducted one star. If I had a phrase for Il Vezzo it would be this: attention to detail. From the moment I step into the door, I noticed the rustic l, beautiful atmosphere with wooden shelves, wine bottles and even a bicycle on the wall. The leather table mat goes well with the heavy culinary set. The bathroom hand towels add to the sense of pride that comes from the restaurant. We start off with a pumpkin puree with beef stock; flavorful, artistic. The various breads complimented the Tuscan mears that were chosen well. The pink shrimp pasta is beautifully arranged and delicious. The tropea makes me appreciate even the thin slices of onion amongst the muffa sauce and avocado. The gel foam dessert was creative and perfectly whipped without being overwhelmingly sweet. The service is friendly, sincere and humble. We got the parpadelle, Florentine steak (1.25kg), and Vezzo salad. The Florentine steak (T-bone) was cooked to absolute perfection. Be prepared to eat (the size they recommended is 1.25 - 1.5kg for two at I think $6.50/100g or something that started with $6.xx). MUST VISIT FOR A FOODIE WOW. This was the best meal we had in Florence. Great wine (Chianti) paired with exceptional food unlike anything I have ever tasted at a fantastic price point. A MUST VISIT in Florence!! Before our meal arrived, we were given a dish complementary by the chef, and it was SO good! The presentation was amazing, and the pumpkin dish tasted so unique, paired with so many flavors in one dish. As appetizers / antipasti, we had the "Tagliere delle Selve di Vallolmo il Bianco e il Grigio del Casentino" or "Selection of Tuscan cured meats from the Selve di Vallolmo farm" and the "Vellutata di verdure di stagione con crostini di pane, mandorle tostate e semi di papavero" or "Velvet cream of in-season vegetables with bread croutons, toasted almond and poppy seeds" (zucchini was the seasonal vegetable). Both were fantastic - the meats melted in your mouth, and the zucchini cream with the crispy croutons and poppy seeds tasted so great together. For mains, we had the "Spaghetti di verdure miste con crema di zucchine e olive taggiasche" or "Vegetables zucchini and carrots spaghetti, with zucchini cream and taggiasche olives", and the "Cipolla di Tropea al mirin, pomodorini confit, burrata affumicata, cecina, patata dolce, maionese di avocado e cialda croccante al rosmarino" or "Tropea onion with mirin, confit tomatoes, smoked burrata cheese, cecina, sweet potaties cream, avocado mayonnaise and rosemary crispy wafer." Best restaurant I went to in Florence. In fact, it was so good, we canceled a reservation to revisit Il Vezzo another night. The starters were great, with the pate being the star of the show, absolutely delicious. The ravioli and the bolognese pastas were incredible. What made them so delicious is the perfectly executed simple flavors utilized in the dishes. They did not try to do too much with, which many times is the hardest thing to execute well. We also had the Florentine steak, which was very nice, although different than what is usually expected from the dish. The steak was obviously a premium quality cut, but contained very little dry aged flavor. In fact, I would say it is better compared to an American steak instead of a Florentine steak. Even though it wasn't the best we had in the city, it was definitely worth having. Honestly, the desserts did not share the same quality as the other courses; I would not order any again. The restaurant itself was beautiful with a great quiet atmosphere in the evening. The service the first time we visited was exceptional, we felt at home and completely taken care of the entire time. My mom doesn't eat much meat and she had a beautiful dish of polenta, onion, and little butternut squash steaks. The butternut was beautifully cooked with herbs. The service was above and beyond - the server apologized for us having to wait (only 8 min for a table) and brought us each a glass of Prosecco (on the house) while we waited outside. This was one of the meals that we enjoyed the most in Florence. It has a lot of French cuisine influence in terms of textures and flavors of the Italian food. So if you're looking for traditional home cooking, this may not be the place. They gave us a free starter which was so sweet and the service there were all very sweet and attentive. Portions were small to medium so we were able to try more things. I honestly think you can't go wrong with anything in the menu. The only thing that was not my favorite is the starter with avocado purée. A lot of the stuff on the place is purée, so I personally didn't love the textures cause it was a little like baby food. However, my partner still really enjoyed it and all the different flavors. The ravioli is probably the closest thing to a simple home meal that we tried. Not pictured, was the rice foam dessert. That was truly an adventure to eat-- lots of different textures from crunchy salted caramel to fluffy rice foam. If you have time and would like a different change of pace of traditional Italian food, this place is such a gem and definitely worth a visit. Best food we ate in Florence, perhaps Italy as a whole. The flavors in every dish were well developed and carefully thought out. We ordered the Ravioli with spinach and a butter sage sauce, and the spaghetti with tomato and basil. I don't have proper words to describe the flavors and heart behind each dish. The hotel at which I'm staying, Palazzo Castri 1874, recommended Il Vezzo because it is nearby. I have heard only great things about it and it has over five trip advisor/etc stickers on the door FOR A REASON! I started with the buffalo mozzarella with roast peppers julienne and beetroot chips. It was moist and perfectly briny. Next, I had the home made pappardelle with traditional Bolognese sauce- delicious BEYOND words. Fun bike decor, wine bottle decorations, and homestyle vibe. FIVE HUGE STARS! Tastiest buffalo mozzarella and any type of ragu/Bolognese/meat sauce I've ever had. So rich and filling! Pasta perfectly al dente. This was my best meal in Florence. The menu (both Italian & English) is posted in their window and is online. This is not traditional or Classic Tuscan cuisine (although they do have Bistecca alla Florentine on the menu), it is innovative, reimagined Italian cuisine. I got the Vellutata di verdure di stagione con crostini di pane, mandorle tostate e semi di papavero as an appetizer. It was basically a wonderful creamy zucchini soup with croutons and almonds. I skipped the primi and got for the secondi the Filetto con spinaci in crema e all'italiana e fumo di betulla, which was a tender filet mignon with a side of spinach cooked in garlic with raisins and pine nuts. The is also a spinach spread underneath the steak which gives it "wow" flavoring. The mixed salad side was huge and above those in ingredients found in other restaurant. And, by the way, their bread basket of 4 different breads was fantastic. House wine was a DOCG Chianti and excellent. Entire meal cost 51 euros It is a small restaurant popular with the locals so reservations are a must - even in the off-season. I was turned away 2 weeknights in the last week of November and finally wised-up and made a reservation. While eating people were again turned away with a reservation. Get the point? There was a sense of ownership and pride in what he was serving and how he was checking up on us. We had pretty much everything but I just wanted to talk about the best dessert of my life. He was the best server I have had in a long time. It is a small restaurant (maybe seats 24?) And has a few traditional Italian items, but they also have very creative food as well. Everything was cooked perfectly and was delicious. We liked it so much, we came back on our last night in Florence. They take reservations on "Thefork" a smartphone app. The desserts were good too. An adorable escape in the heart of Florence. Walking into this restaurant feels like walking into a small quaint house in the country or something - quiet, peaceful, and tranquil. The service was impeccable, with only 1 waiter working the restaurant floor flawlessly - it was great! The food was delicious, a new twist on traditional Italian food! We ordered Ravioli ripieni di ricotta e spinaci con burro e salvia (Ravioli stuffed with spinach and ricotta, with a butter and sage sauce). Surprisingly delicious and elegant! We also share a traditional Florence Bisteca - which was cooked to perfection, and flavored well (maybe, a tiny bit salty). For dessert, we had tiramisu - of course! The atmosphere is lovely, the green stripes along the walls, quiet music playing, low voices of all the patrons, and candles on the table - really felt so intimate and a world away. With only 10 tables, this tiny restaurant packs a huge experience. Greeted warmly by our host and server Giovanni (who took excellent care of us all evening) this warm restaurant welcomed locals and tourists alike. We enjoyed the Chianti Rufina followed by fresh pasta covered in a white, rabbit, ragout (so creamy and delicious). My other half enjoyed the crispy octopus is delicious over Dijon mashed potatoes. For my main, I had the smoked filet mignon: the BEST I'VE EVER EATEN!!! The steak was creamy, and smoky, perfectly cooked, and served with spinach cooked with golden raisins and pine nuts. A red beetroot semifreddo and tiramisu closed a meal of unexpected and subtle flavors. A very special evening... that was followed by another!!! A week later - we went back, on our last night in Florence. Despite having wonderful steaks elsewhere...I had the same filet...and it was the same... Best I've ever eaten!
