They were very efficient and we were in and out of there within an hour. All bottles of chianti were gone over good conversation and we were on our merry way walking through Florence. If I could give 10 stars I would. The spicy stewed beef pasta is simply the best I have had! The pasta was cooked perfectly (in many places in Italy they cook too al dente in my opinion), the beef melted in my mouth and the sauce was a perfect combination of savory and umami. Food arrived very quickly, in about 10 minutes despite of them being very busy during lunchtime. The restaurant has a traditional and tasteful classic Tuscany decor. Restaurant is in an ally there are tables outside , but it was a pretty warm day so we choose to sit indoors , it's a charming old and homey , makes you realize your sitting and going to be eating a meal in ITALY . I just had to order the Fagioli al fiasco had it here before still as delicious as I remember it just cannellini beans But just delicious , also the Tagliere di salami toscani (salami and assorted cheeses and olives), main dish was the Bistecca all a Florentina di scottona (steak thick cut from Chianina cow) cooked med rare topped with large flaked salt it was melt in your mouth pure steak heaven. When I think of a classic northern Italian ristorante, Trattoria Casa Toscana makes my list. The food here is delicious. They use basil liberally and the layering of flavors in their food are incredible. Growing up on the east coast, I really enjoyed the flavors of Sicily, with its use of garlic, oregano and red peppers. That is not what Casa Toscana is all about. This is a white table cloth place, around the corner from the Piazza Santa Croce. It's family run, with a rich history of preparing things fresh and made to order One of our young servers discussed visiting her relatives in Pennsylvania when she was younger. She described her surprise over how basic the local Italian food scene was and how she couldn't wait to get back home to Florence. Our small group started off with an appetizer of Caprese Con Bufalo (see photo). Btw, they have their Chianti bottled for them and it had a nice balance of flavor, without a sharp alcohol residue. I would certainly recommend it. Next up was Lasagna Bolognese (photo). You could see little bits of carrots and onions in the sauce. It was very tasty, that made you want it linger on your palate a while longer. I make it at home too, but theirs had a nice layered flavors to it. Yum. For dessert, we had a real treat. We were served a delicious Panna Cotta (photo). Yum. It had a creamy milk panna cotta with a chocolate wild berries sauce. I can't say how much I loved this restaurant and still do it justice. The food is so perfect. Everything is so fresh and so flavorful. I had a steak stew over thick spaghetti pasta. The stew was like a brisket that just melted. The pasta was so fresh and so perfectly cooked that every bite was heavenly. My wife had the tagliatelle pasta with roasted cherry tomatoes and burrata cheese. So perfect and so simple but the best meal we have had in our five days in Rome or Florence. Great pasta in a busy area in Firenze. It was recommended by the tour guide and it was a great experience. Servers are flying back and forth nonstop bringing food and wine. Casa Toscana was one of my favorite restaurants during our trip throughout Italy. I would honestly say that the best pasta we had during our whole trip came from this place. Their house wine is delicious. My boyfriend ordered the Pennette All'Arrabbiata (Penne pasta with hot & spicy tomato sauce). It was simple, yet rich. I ordered the Rigatoni Con Salsiccia Toscana & Crema Di Tartufo (Rigatoni with Tuscan Pork Sausage Sauce & Black Truffle Cream). It was incredible. The bread was crusty and yummy. The wine was delicious. Our server was so sweet and so friendly. She had a restaurant full of people she was helping. I admired her for keeping such a friendly attitude while she was working so quickly. The atmosphere in this restaurant is very cozy. It's great for both couples and large families. The prices are very reasonable. I plan on visiting Florence again and I'll definitely be returning to Cafe Toscana. read more

Very poor service, a tourist trap. No sense of real service. An eating mill. Our party size was 15 people. Our tour agency booked the lunch. It consisted of 2 courses of pasta and a glass of white and red wine. We asked them to leave us the bottles of wine for us to enjoy on our own, but they refused. We asked them to start with just a taste and they poured a taste and never came back for the actual glass of wine. They didn't serve us water until the second course. I had to flag the waiter down for everything, including water. Once water was gone, they didn't replenish it. we ordered some pizza because they only served pasta course. Dirty plates were left on our table for over 45 minutes after our meal ended. Again, I had to flag waiters down to remove the dirty plates. Eventually we got up to leave, and our guide said, "wait they will bring out sweets." After a 2 hour meal that consisted of just 2 courses of pasta, they brought out biscotti and some cheap liquor shots which we had while we were standing around. If you are looking for a dining experience, this is not it. Don't recommend it, even for free. I have never given anyone 1 star rating anywhere in the world. This is my first one, let alone in Italy, which I love deeply. Avoid this establishment at all cost! read more
