I decided to come here because it was right around on the corner, and I was a bit disappointed especially from the raving google reviews in Italian. The spaghetti was very mediocre and after a week in Italy, I can sort of tell the differences. Sauce was basic and not much flavor. The seafood risotto was the worst I've ever had. The risotto was super hard and undercooked and the seafood wasn't very fresh. On the bright side the salmon was good! It was very tender and I liked the pink sauce because it had a sharp and interesting cheesy taste to it. The peppercorns were a nice touch. The vibes from the staff was also very weird. Even for the usual slower paced service, our food took a while and the waitress seemed very out of it and slow. They also overcharged us for 2 bottles of water we didn't drink. Decent pizza We stopped in for dinner, I decided on a pizza, my wife an Ossobuco dish. The food did not come out quickly, due to the time involved for my wife's dish. I know because you can watch the pizza maker from the dining room, and it was many minutes before he started on mine. But, as you may have guessed, they timed it perfectly so the pizza was ready with the Ossobuco was ready. The pizza I selected was called Boscaiola, a mushroom and sausage pie with pecorino cheese. I had quickly looked up the cheese and was curious how that would be, a harder cheese than traditional pizza cheeses. It turned out ok. I think I will stick to the more standard cheeses going forward. One issue I had with the pie was moisture, it seemed a bit wet, not oily, more like water. Service was pretty typical. As an American tourist I am trying to not compare service standards between the two countries. They did ok. read more

Authentic homemade pasta dishes served us well along. They even went out of the way to prepare a special dish with pesto for my wife.

The best pasta and steak we ever ate. After sightseeing in Florence for the day we found this restaurant on the way back to our hotel. We were looking to try Bistecca alla Fiorentina but most places in the area required your dining party order a minimum. Since we also wanted pasta the owner graciously accommodated us with a smaller cut of steak. Everything we tried was delicious. Spaghetti Aglio e Olio, Pappardelle al Sugo de Cinghiale, the Bistecca and Grandfather Cake were some of my favorites. We loved it so much we went back the next night. We heard about Giglio Rosso from our excellent Rick Steves tour guide Tina. As a plus it is owned by the husband of the woman who owns the hotel we stayed in for the tour. We started with chicken livers on toast. Damn they were good! Next came the baked lasagna for my wife and I had the Tuscan sirloin steak with basil and cheese. OMG both were PERFECTO! We were about ready to leave and the owner insisted we each have a glass of Limoncello on the house. I have never had a drink after diner that's paired so well with everything we ate, and being a super hot night, the chilled glass of liqueur was heaven. As an added bonus since we were staying in the hotel we got 10% OFF the meal. I would not hesitate to recommend Giglio Rosso to anyone, and I am sure they would not be disappointed with the meal. Go here and have a terrific meal. (Plus the atmosphere was cool.) The topping on the cake was that the restaurant was exceptionally CLEAN! We appreciate that when we go out to eat. We stumbled upon this place after shopping around. Best decision we've made so far. We got the first and second course, we skipped the apperitivo because you will end up paying for bread anyways (2 euro service/bread fee). It's a nicer restaurant, but you don't have to spend a lot if you don't want to. There are also so many options. The waitress we had was really nice and patient, we took a while to look through the menu because it was so big, but we loved what we got. The asparagus risotto, penne Rosso and lasagne was a great first course. Then we got the grilled salmon, and chicken with mushroom cream sauce. All delicious. We also shared a liter of wine between three people and it ended up being about 2 glasses each. Also, the waitress gave us complimentary limoncello after our meal. It was such a great experience, she was so sweet! All in all the staff was friendly; the restaurant has a fancy flare and everything was great! We are still very full! This restaurant isn't very reviewed, but don't let that deter you! Seriously, we highly recommend this! It's family style, there is a dessert tray that will come around at the end of your meal and they don't skimp on the helping! We didn't get dessert, but everyone around us did. MAMA MIA! I think that I just had the best pasta ever here. Well I got the the four cheese gnocchi and it was delicious. My sister also got it, but her taste thinks that the cheese is too rich. Personally I loved it though! And it's conveniently located by the train station too. read more

Good solid offerings in this raucous, expansive restaurant. If it seems like people are coming in from every direction, that's because they are: there are 3 different entrances on 3 sides of the building. We had a simple tomato, mozzarella, basil appetizer, a simple pasta and a simple steak; all were prepared well and were delicious. Service was friendly and attentive. Decor is clean, somewhat modern. I might return here, if the opportunity were to come up later into an an extended trip, but I wouldn't rush back. read more

We placed an order for takeaway through Deliveroo instead of going to the restaurant due to the dining out restrictions. After waiting nearly two hours for the food to arrive, we were notified that the order was cancelled. At this point it was 20h40, you can imagine how the news of no food arriving went over with two children. Don't miss this place. YOU must go. This is the beginning of one of the most fantastic typical Italian style meals in Florence Italy. Understand that I grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Chicago, so I am even more picky then normal. We begin sharing a mixed house salad with different breads. My 2nd course was a Pappardelle pasta with wild boar sauce. Very tasty creation. It is like a pure meat sauce with garlic, oil and light seasoning. I actually enjoyed adding cheese and a little balsamic vinegar to offset the heavy meat flavor. But, don't get me wrong. I loved it. My 3rd course was the best monk fish that I ever tasted. It was prepared with a garlic sauce that contained as far as I can guess, Crushed garlic White wine, Olive oil, Salt, Rosemary, Crushed tomato for a little color or pimento, and Capers. If those ingredients sound good to you, then you will be in heaven. My wife had a T-bone steak that she loved, and cooked perfectly to her preference. My final course was flan which was as light and creamy as Cubans make. Of course, espresso to complete it My wife enjoyed Strawberry Goliath. With a liter of wine, and 1/2 liter of Pellegrino water, the bill totaled 78Euro. Which includes tip. Our waitress was so kind, that she offered us a "digestive". It was a very chilled combination that had the taste of semi-sweet Prosecco, orange juice and lemon. It was amazing. Being so delighted with the meal and service and experience I gave our waitress 10Euro. Enjoyed dinner with 28 others in a Rick Steves tour. As part of prix fixe menu we enjoyed primeri of cantaloupe with prosciutto, a segundi of gnocchi with Gorgonzola sauce, an entree of tenderloin Robespierre, prepared with salt, pepper, rosemary and olive oil doused with brandy braised over coal flames. A visual feast! (And fortunately no fiery incident .) Side plates included olive oil-cooked potatoes and fresh mixed salad. Then a dessert dilemma, having to choose among a dozen delectable options. I had almond torte, my husband had the cream pie with cherry, covered with chocolate flakes. We had to create a wall to prevent stealing from each other. Service is friendly and appropriately slow, i.e. perfect Italian style. What was lovely was that the person needing gluten-free and the two persons requesting vegetarian were accommodated flawlessly and they said their dishes were very tasty (although their entrees arrived later). Owner Angelo came out and welcomed us exuberantly, proudly introduced his granddaughter and came by several times to make sure we were happy. We arrived at 7:45 pm, and finished a little after 10:30. Excellent steak florentine! Went here our first night in Florence after a week in Rome and we wanted a change from pizza and pasta. The steak was recommended and it was thick, juicy, and delicious! Great service and very good house wine. The mixed salad was also good and you won't want a heavier side or appetizer with the size of the steak. read more

The steak Florentine knocked our socks off, holy heck. It was so well cooked, so delicious. What a great find a little walk from the train station. We were a larger group and reserved through The Fork. I did it sort of last minute and didn't know if the restaurant received the request, but we were hungry and decided to stop by to see if they could accommodate us. They did so, immediately, acknowledged my reservation, and also honored a rather large percentage discount they told me I was entitled to for reserving through The Fork. I hadn't even mentioned I'd tried to reserve. Spectacular. The cheeses and meats that we ordered for appetizers were also so delicious. Just a great meal, fabulous service. One of the best Restaurants in Florence. Close to Santa Maria Novella which offers a central location. Food is delicious, fresh and seasoned. Service is great and moderately priced but definitely worth it. Best Ive had so far in 3 days here. Oh, and lets not forget about the dessert cart. We had a sample of each and there was not a single one we didnt like. Would definitely reccomend it! A+++ read more
