This place is walking distance from my house and has come in handy MANY times. I have never done any drastic tailoring but when I need a dress hemmed or straps shortened it is always done well! I've always agreed on prices with them ahead of time and they are reasonable. When I needed something super quick they accommodated and when something wasn't in a rush I said a week and a half was no problem. I figure it is best to be flexible when I can be so they can accommodate rush orders which I have been guilty of. (Like- I need this bridesmaid dress shortened by tomorrow pretty please!) I have read the one-star reviews for Master Tailoring and was astounded. I was so surprised I decided to write my review. Master Tailoring has been in business for many years at this location. They are located in a high-end shopping centre. The people who live in the area and use Master demand the best service and quality. If Master were so terrible as these reviews point out, they would be out of business in a New York second! If one looks closely at these one-star reviews, some use the same words. Ever since the clerk "Lori" came on board the quality of the service provided has declined dramatically. After years of taking my clothing here I took one item of clothing for alteration recently and when I picked it up there was a stain on the white part of the item and the bottom of the pant section was so long that it was dragging on the floor. I thought maybe they had forgotten to do the hem but when I asked Lori, she said that was how "I" wanted it. She also blamed the stain on me. I decided to give her a chance to correct it. I left the item with her with the agreement that the problems will be corrected. After a few days I went back to pick it up again and when I tried it on the right and left sides were uneven. Again I asked her to correct it and left the item with her for correction but she did not correct it at all as was evident by the hem being exactly as it was. I took the item to another alteration place and they corrected it within 30 minutes. Apparently their poor ethics is commonly known amongst others in their profession. Lori is rude and dishonest. She will not take responsibility for poor service. Even though she agrees that the job was poorly done she refuses to correct it in a timely manner or at all. She has no problem calling the customer "difficult" when she can't be bothered to even write up an invoice or when the service is clearly incomplete. She also hates dogs and refuses to allow service dogs to come inside. Unfortunately whatever has caused her to be so bitter towards everyone is affecting her professionally. I will never go here again and I recommend everyone else to look for another more professional alteration business as there are many close by. Don't get fooled by her initial fake attitude. Once she takes your items of clothing she has no intention of providing good service and if you ask her to correct it she will somehow find a way to blame it on the customer. read more

Poor service and poor attitude. I had a few suits tailored here and the hem came out of one of the pant legs the day I needed to wear one of the suits. I popped into the store and asked if they could repair the hem and was told no flat out. I wasn't asking for a free repair of their poor quality work, just for the hem to be fixed later that day. This business does not care about their customers as clearly reflected by my experience, I will never use them again. Update: I went back and asked a different person to help out which she begrudgingly did. Thanks! Still one star for poor, poor attitude. read more

LORI is absolutely AMAZING!! i gave her what I thought would be a near impossible task and not only did she kill it but she did it with a huge smile and great customer service! I brought in a full suit totally unhemmed on Wednesday 5/20 and she was able get the entire suit custom tailored by Saturday 5/23 for an interview I have on Monday! Thats bringing the pants in several inches in the waist and the back of the leg as well as taking the coat in in the back! She also did an amazing job on the break in the leg and I'm able to now wear multiple styles of shoes with it! Unfortunately cause I have broad shoulders I'm always stuck getting suits that only fit my chest but not my legs, waist or stomach but the way Lori was able to get my suit tailored I've never looked better! This place is HORRIBLE!! I brought a dress here to be let back out to the normal size after my sister borrowed it and had it taken in in the chest area. (this is an extremely easy job for anyone who knows alterations) I explained exactly what to do, showed her the stitching on both sides of the dress and when I got the dress back they had only let out one side!! The dress was completely lopsided! The lady told me I was WRONG, that I never told her both sides had been taken in, and I would have to pay an ADDITIONAL $30 (after I had already paid $30) to have the other side done. We are talking about the top of a dress, 5 inches max. She YELLED at me and when I asked for the owner told me "No...I'm done with this." Do not go here!!! Horrible customer service and craftsmanship!! Here, the customer is always WRONG, not right. This place will be out of business soon! Good riddens. read more

Horrible, horrible experience!!! I read terrible reviews and heard from my fiancé that they can't even do the simplest tailoring.. but I chose to give them a chance to draw my own conclusions- since they were right across the street from where I live. Boy, was I wrong to do that! I brought in a dress to be tailored- the bust ended being too tight, the sides were taken in too far down toward my hips (when I specifically instructed her not to), beadings falling off, and the inside lining shortened, hence pulling the hem of the dress upwards and making it shorter, floppy and crooked. The lady doesn't even have the knowledge or expertise to recognize that the inside lining is too short and pulling up the bottom of the dress. Overall, it was a horrible job. The lady's defenses were up the minute I explained that I didn't like how the dress was tailored. I explained that I would like the dress redone to my expectations or for her to bring it back to its original shape and I'll get it done elsewhere. I was open to them redoing it but the lady was so mean, unyielding and nasty (her retorts were rather immature and untactful) that I was not confident she was listening to what I was saying or understood what I wanted. Additionally, she wanted me to pay her for the unsatisfactory work she already did before she'll agree to fix it. If that were the case- if I were a business owner- I would always do unsatisfactory work the first time around so I could charge extra to fix it. And yes- as one of the reviewers on here said- the customer is always wrong at this establishment. I was wrong to not like how they tailored my dress and I was wrong to want the dress to look a certain way. After some contentious back and forth, she ended up throwing my dress on the floor rather than handling it back to me. read more

I took friends' recommendations & totally regret it! $65 for alterations on a bridesmaids dress; and she wouldn't even use their coupon that came in my mail between the time I dropped it off & picked it up! I know it SAYS must be presented with incoming order; but I've NEVER had a Service Business refuse before. Then, I got the dress home & realized she'd put it on a clippy hanger that's crushed the top, so now I'll have to steam it before the wedding. Also, she didn't take off the plastic snaps, which I asked her to remove, since we're not using the detachable bow on the back of the dress. DO NOT GO HERE! THERE ARE PLENTY OF GOOD TAILORS IN NEWPORT BEACH. I wish I could give negative stars. read more

Absolutely the worst experience i've had! Not only they misplaced my pants and were lost for 2 weeks, nobody will call me to let me know where my designer pant where but their job was bad and situation was not handled appropiatley. I took 2 pairs of pants for regular hems and a month after they started unfolding. Not a professional taylor at all and waaay over priced. I will not return nor reccomend this place. read more

Understaffed. I have used them because they are convenient to my home but their work is inconsistent. At least 75% of the things I have altered have to go back and be reworked because not being done correctly the first time. I am extremely disappointed with their most recent foul-up. I don't think I've ever written a bad review in my life but I would give this place zero stars if I could. Wow, what a horrible experience I had dealing with them. I must say I'm stunned at the cost of this place, the bad workmanship you get for it and the absolutely rude, and I mean nasty rude staff woman who works there. I had a dress that needed to be taken in on the sides, should have been an easy alteration, slam dunk no problem job. Not here. I take it in there and when she pins it on me it seems to fit fine, when I get it back and try it on it's huge so I ask her to re do it again. I come back in again and it still doesn't seem to fit right but thought if I took it back and tried it on with a different bra it might work. Well, it didn't. I bring it back a third time and plead with her to fix it so it at least fits on me somewhat. A month and half later I call her and ask if she has it and she says they took in the top more but not the bottom since it would cost more. Fine, fair enough. I go in and try it on and now it's so tight I can barely breathe. After all of my time trying to get this dress altered I now have to take it somewhere else and pay to have it done again. So I intended to tell her that, as I was leaving, that it's disappointing to spend $35 to alter a dress and after three attempts that it still doesn't fit and now I have to go somewhere else and pay again to have it done again. At this point she starts yelling me that I expect people to work for free and that it's all about the money. You could have knocked me over with a feather. I tried to tell her, I was happy to pay the fee I just expected for that fee that the dress would FIT at the end but she wouldn't stop yelling at me. She said they base their fees on the fact that they are in Newport Beach and they can get it and I shouldn't expect people to work for free. I again made one more attempt to tell her I am happy to pay people for their time and talents but I do expect a successful result. And in all honesty, even an ok result would have somewhat worked but I dress that I can't wear just doesn't help me and is a total waste of my valuable time and money. Do not take your stuff here. I know it's close and convenient, which is what I was thinking but you end up paying too much and wasting your time trying to get things done right and the woman there is super rude. There's just too many other places to go. Save yourself the aggravation and go anywhere but here. read more

I haven't had any garments that are complicated done here - I've only had my pants hemmed. However, they do a very good job and in general have a fast turn around time. God knows that when you find the perfect pair of jeans you don't want to wait a week to wear them out of the house! It costs approximately $10 for a regular hem and a bit more if you want the original hem. read more
