I remember know why I quit going to Massage envy. I recently received a gift card for my birthday for a hot stone massage at ME. I had never had one of these types of massages and was looking forward to it. I scheduled the appt for 330 on Monday 8/26. I arrived at ME at 3:15 as they had suggested to fill out paperwork. When I arrived they told me I was already late and the appt was for 3:00. I let them know that I was told 3:30 as I would only see a female therapist and she wasn't available until 3:30pm. After being told that I would only be receiving a 60 minute session instead of the 90 minutes since I was late and they had another appt. Since they already had my card number, if I just left they would charge the card anyways. I filled out the paperwork and went back with the therapist. Once in the room she explained very nicely what she was going to do and then left for me to get undressed. After waiting for 8 minutes in the room, I was not at a point that I was completely irritated and started to get up to leave. At that moment the therapist came back in. She started putting the hot stones on my back, after a few stones were put on my back she told me they were too hot and she needed to leave to get some cold water. She left the room and at that point the stones started burning my back. She returned a few minutes later and I mentioned they were too hot so laid down another towel on my back. I have never had a hot stone massage, but I assumed that since it includes the word massage there would some sort of massage. Instead she barely rubbed those hot stones over me for the next 45 minutes, no massage whatsoever, and barely any pressure. After she was done, she left the room and at that point I was so irritated I quickly got dressed. I could hear her outside the door waiting and I was probably in the room alone no more than 30 seconds. I came outside and she pointed me to the exit. When I walked up front the asst manager asked how my experience was and I relayed my disappointment. She then went into a sales pitch about their membership program. I told her no thank you. She then opened up a brochure that was from the therapist that outlined the therapists recommendations based on our session. I looked at the asst manager and asked how this could have been done after my session since once the therapist left the room I heard her outside and was in the room for no more than 30 seconds. I questioned how there was time for her to complete this recommendation, bring it up front and return with water in 30 seconds. The manager looked at me, as if she was caught in the act. I am assuming that the 8 minutes I spent laying there to begin the session was when the therapist filled out the recommendation. Nice job there, filling out my recommended plan based on my session before the session even began! The asst manager moved on and gave me the total price, which by the way I received no discount for the shortened session even when I asked. I paid using the gift card I received and I still left a tip. At that point the asst manager again when into the "we have a membership plan" script again. I declined and left. Why the hell would I pay every month to have that crappy service? There is a silver lining in all of this. My wife scheduled an appt later that same night with Touch of Tranquility in Gilbert, the place we normally go. They sent me a confirmation email 30 minutes later (maybe take notice of that business practice Massage Envy) and I had, as usual, a fantastic massage. Just made me remember why I go to Touch of Tranquility, a much better experience and not a rip off. read more

I haven't had many massages so I''m not to hard to please but I was pretty disappointed with my experience here. The massage was ok but had many distractions and seemed undedicated, but I get the impression my therapist was new. The room was super bright until after I was already on the table and the therapist came back in, and I could here people talking in the hall and the waiting room throughout most of my massage. I also found the front waiting room very awkward and small and not the appropriate place to be reviewing a person's personal details before taking them back for their massage. I guess my experience at Massage Envy proves the adage that you get what you pay for (and sometimes less!) I have had many massages in my life (it is my preferred way to spend money on myself) and although I didn't get the worst massage in my life here, it was pretty close to being the worst. The therapist picked me up 10 minutes late, gave me close to 10 minutes to undress, and then quit the massage at 10 minutes to the hour. So my so-called hour was really only a half hour. And it was half-hearted as well. I would say that close to 70-80% of the time, she used only one hand. And the pressure I asked for--medium--was not in her repertoire. It was like she was rubbing my skin rather than massaging my muscles. I won't be returning to Massage Envy. read more

This has to be the worst franchise ever! I was a member for years and never had a problem. Last summer I moved to Oklahoma and tried switching my membership due to the cost being lower here. I am not under contract and this location refuses to do the transfer. Before I left I changed my address to my OK home. Never once did they tell me I couldn't transfer. As a matter of fact the front desk person suggested it due to the price difference. I have sent in proof of address and it hasn't been accepted. They say "corporate" won't accept it. I asked for "corporates" phone number and was told that they don't really have one. Tonight the Massage Envy here was told that I need to send my information in again and they will consider it. Massage Envy just lost a customer. Oh and did I mention that when I cancel, I lose my prepaid massages! Crooks!!!! read more

Massage Envy is a franchise and that exactly is the feel as soon as you walk thru the door. The receptionists are very friendly but most of the staff seem very inexperienced. They are lacking spa etiquette. Not very relaxing and the rooms always cold. I am going to cancel my membership once my 6 months are up. The therapists are inconsistent in how they follow up with you after the massage, letting you know what areas need more attention next visit. read more

Be very careful...read the contract. I thought I was signing up for 6 massages (6 months). Come to find out there is "autorenew" spot they make you initial. I had no idea I was being charged until 5 more months had acrued. When I found out to cancel...they will only allow you 30 days to use all 5 of those massages. The therapists are good but I would never go here again, because of the poor management and policies. I felt like they tricked me with the contract. I found a much better place, for $39.00 anytime, no contract next to the Sprouts on Southern and Higley. read more

I have been asking for MONTHS what my options are for canceling my contract but still being able to use my credits. Every time I call my home store there is never a manager that can do anything for me. I'm told I will be called back but no one ever does. I've made in-person trips to the store and there is never anyone there that can assist me. Today I call and while who I spoke with was very pleasant (this is not her fault at all) I was told yet again that there was no one there that could make a decision and help me. That I needed to call back when a lead was on staff at 4 p.m. The last time I spoke to a lead they weren't able to make a decision for me either. I want what Hand and Stone does.... to be able to take my 7.5 credits at $50 each and use it for gift cards or product. I would even be happy if I could put my account on hold indefinitely until my credits have been used up so I can cancel ONLY after I use what I paid for. This is another option Hand and Stone offers to their clients. The only option I've been given is to give a 30 day notice and try to use all of your credits before the 30 days is up. That's crazy! I've been a member since 2009. That's approx $4,800 that I've given to this company over 7 years. All I'm asking for is to be able to use the $375 that I have on file. read more

I would definitely recommend Massage Envy to my family and friends. Got a gift certificate and had a facial and massage. Looking forward to my next appointment.  I've had several experiences with massages at a Resort and in strip malls.  While my experience in a Resort have always been first class. The professional staff, the ambiance of the hotel and the perks offered before and after a treatment in the relaxation areas are well worth the money spent. However, Massage Envy compared to other local strip mall spas is a first class experience.  The location is convenient, it is clean, and the price is ok for what you get.  The only con I found is the up selling of products.  This is the only spa I have ever experienced selling you their products when leaving. Also, the front desk agents need a little more professional training. read more

This was the most disappointing massage service I've ever had. I have about 4 gifts cards at present that I received for Massage envy. I used one late 2018 in Gilbert location (no problem). I called the San Tan location to make an appointment in Jan 2019. The gift card stated "1 hour massage $65). When I finished my massage, one of the front desk gals tried to do a "Used car sale" with me for a membership. I told her, I was not interest in a membership, I will wait until I have finished my gift cards before deciding. Unfortunately, I had left my gift card home, therefore I decided to pay for the service. She stated, it would be $95.00, I asked, are you kidding. She said, it's because you've been in before & $55.00 is for intro fee. First of all, this seem backward to me, if I've been in before, then I don't need an intro fee, I am not new. I told her no way, I'm going to pay that, I will call my husband to bring my cards. My husband brought my card to location, then she goes, you have a $45.00 balance... I said "What is that for, I've given you the gift card. If I give someone a gift card, I don't expect them to pay almost half the cost". It was such a rip off, I spoke with the people who gave me the cards & they ALL stated, they were NEVER told that..."Who does that". Another front desk gal, poking her nose into the conservation, stated "Our policy is, if you're not a member then you have to pay the non member fee of $95" My response was, in other words, you're trying to force the customers to become members. I'm not giving you $45 in addition to my $65 gift card and I'm NOT becoming a member. Another gal walks up & goes, just charge her $5.00. I will burn the remainder of my cards before going back there. Really left a "bad taste in my mouth" Don't screw your customers over, we put you there. read more

I got a call from the General Manager today (Monday 5/26). He was very understanding and apologetic for the experience and we came to an agreement to compensate me for the experience and damage done. Luckily Im feeling much better. I have been going to massage envy since 2009 and this is truly my first horrible experience. I will for sure give them another shot. Its great to hear from a business owner (not only on-time as promised) but to have one who very obviously cares about the customer experience. My home spa is Gilbert Gateway - well, was until my ahhhh-mazing therapist retired because of rheumatoid arthritis :( since then I've had one heck of a time finding someone that is even half as good as he was. I mostly do trigger point/deep tissue therapy and the few times I've done it with other therapists, it's felt like some horrific kind of torture as opposed to therapy. The one time I did visit ME San Tan, it was a lackluster performance. The lady talked the whole time which I found rather annoying. She also felt somewhat qualified to diagnose me as if she were a doctor. My main frustration is in the lack highly qualified therapists. As other posts state, turnover is ridiculous. It's very hard to find a good match - I've wasted so many sessions on trying to find someone who is phenomenal. I am going to give this location one last go.... failure to impress will mean I'll be canceling my membership and letting my cat do the kneading! read more

I have been to the San Tan location a few times for massages & facial, both were great!

I would not recommend this spa at all! I usually go to one of their other locations, which is wonderful, the staff are professional and I have never experienced any issues. For Mother's day, my husband called and booked me an appt. He informed the receptionist I was a member and attended another location, when I arrived for my scheduled appt, the receptionist informed me the person at their spa failed to follow their own policies when booking my appt. The wrong person was scheduled. When they called to confirm my appt they called a person with the same name, who indicated she did not make an appt. The receptionist then proceeded to provide me with the personal information of the other person they called. This all occurred with the Assistant Manager sitting next to her! When my husband called while I was at the spa the receptionist hung up on him. We requested the name of the manager to follow up. The Assistant Manager indicated they could "comp" me a massage since it was mother's day and their mistake, however, if they can not follow their own policies, divulge personal information and are unprofessional, why would I want to return to get a massage? I declined and indicated I would not be returning. There are other Massage Envy locations that can meet your needs- these are franchises so individually owned, so you can find spas with great staff, this is just not one of them. read more

Well, this massage envy was fine until I needed to cancel my membership. I put it on hold for awhile because I was having issues with my back. Called to cancel then in September because I was going to be having back surgery and knew I could no longer use the massages or even sit for a facial for that period of time. Was told it was cancelled then. Then I got charged again in October. Then they called to say my credit card wouldn't go through. I wouldn't give new expiration date because I said my account was supposed to be cancelled. Was told a manager would get a hold of me and they never did. Then I realized they charged me again $130 in December so somehow they pushed through on an expired card. Then I called 1/11/18 and spoke with Rosemary. She was really nice and said she could see the hold and all that went on and should have been cancelled in Sept and I should get all charges back from September on and that a manager would have to get back to me to process. Guess what?!?!!? No response again!!! Whenever I call or stop by it's the same story no manager available but I will pass along your info. So they now charged me again on 1/12/18. I'm so freaking fed up I will never go back even when I'm all healed up. Rosemary also said I could transfer some massages and they wouldn't charge me the $10 because I had some built up from before cancellation. "for my inconvenience" . Doubt it will happen. Basically they are sitting on $325 that they owe me at this point. read more

I paid for a 2 hour massage and got 100 minutes - started 12-15 minutes late (and I arrived on time for a change) and the standard 5+ minutes early. It's like it is the customer's problem that the scheduling is done at the top or bottom of the hour. They could allow 1 hr 15 min per massage to give them time to service the room, but they prefer to be dishonest by continuing to call a 50 minute massage a 1-hr massage, a 90-minute massage a 75-80 minute massage, etc. The therapist was one of the best I've had (Krystle - my favorite, Desiree, quit a few months ago as 'my favorite' always does). But there is an atmosphere of poor integrity that bleeds to the therapists that, yes, it's a 2-hour massage, but guess what? It's only going to be an hour and 50 minutes or less (most of the time less). And everyone, from the front desk to the therapists to the managers just look at this as the way they do business, but to me it is a dishonest business model that is done the way it is for their convenience and greed. I've been a member for 10 years and I'm ready to move on, as you can tell. read more
