On a random test, about 40% of their 1/2 size is actually significantly smaller than posted size. Look for an honest company.

Individual cabinets there run about $1500. Though the sticker shock really got us, I still wonder if that was the right price at all. I think new items at Home Depot cost less than that. Called Alliance lumber yesterday 4/29/26 and to get quoted on 17- 2x6x20' boards as well as 2x8x20'…read moreboards. Both Doug fir. The guy quoted me $284.92 for the 17 2x6's and $247.17 for the 13 2x8's. Sent my brother down there to grab the 2x8's and the guys charges him $307 and some change for the 13 2x8's. He told the guy at the front counter what we were quoted while I was on the phone and with attitude he says. " I highly Doubt that". I have no reason to lie about a $60 price difference frankly I don't care. But as my brother is loading lumber he called me and stated that the gentleman working the will call desk came out and told him he cannot continue to sift through the bundle of boards looking for decently straight ones and that he needs to leave. He stated that all the material is going to be bent and split. Mind you he already paid for the material. He then states that he's willing to refund him for the material he did not load yet and turned around and walked off. Point being is that I'm not paying for broken and damaged boards and it was wrong of them to treat him that way. We're a smaller outfit but after being treated that way this will be our first and last time using alliance lumber if this is how they treat their smaller customers. I guess if you do not have a large order and aren't well known they will hike up their prices and treat you like dirt. 10/10 do not recommend.

Unfortunately, I have to be in a Wi-Fi area in order to use my phone like that. And they don't have Wi-Fi. I needed very specific things size wise. And you're not allowed to open packaging but when you pick up a lamp and you lightly shake it and you hear broken glass, but you're not allowed to open up the package and see what exactly broke why bother buying it at half price if you're not gonna be able to use it. This happened repeatedly also I was looking for a specific size bathroom medicine cabinet. Since much of the writing on the boxes didn't have dimensions, and I couldn't open the boxes because it's against the rules. I could find boxes that I think might've had the right sized item inside but I really couldn't take the gamble especially when I can't see if they're scratches or dents or a door ripped off, etc. I think the only thing I will come back here for is tile. If you're doing a craft project and you need a few pieces of tile or you're doing something special to cover a table top and you only need a few feet. This is the place to come for the tile. Unfortunately, the majority of the tile is not labeled and not priced and I hate having to run up to the counter every single time I find something to find out how much it's gonna cost. It's just ridiculous. I found a similar place, not too far away, where the people don't mind if you open the items to look at them and they will even go so far as to take a light fixture and wire it to a test area to show you that it works. So I think I will keep going to this other place instead.

I said I would never good into such a backward place again. It was a throwback to the gold old boy attitudes of the 50's. Day before yesterday I needed a piece of wood that was 14" by 22". I was prepared to make another trip to Home Depot. For some reason I thought of Heldt which is just a few minutes from my home. I decided it might be time to try and be open-minded and go there. It was a better experience. The men in the back worked with me to find a quality of material that would meet my needs then cut it to my specifications. It was a positive experience all the way around. One thing to remember is this is a lumber yard, not a Home Depot. I did have to do some asking to find where I needed to go and to get help in the back. I could accept that. It went pretty quickly and the price was reasonable.

After the phone call , staff actually emailed me and told me that I had wasted his time by doing so. I found his response incredibly rude, unprofessional, and completely unnecessary. As a potential customer, I would expect to be treated with courtesy and respect, especially when simply requesting information. It's disappointing that a business would make a customer feel like an inconvenience for asking questions or even calling. Based on this interaction, I would not recommend Heldt Lumber to anyone who values good customer service.
