My first time here and the size of the place was overwhelming. I was looking for something with a variety of items at a big discount, including items that might be ready to go. I don't feel very comfortable with DIYing. I noticed a lot of scrap materials for building. I was curious about the cabinetry because I've been wanting some for a useless nook area in my house. Individual cabinets there run about $1500. Though the sticker shock really got us, I still wonder if that was the right price at all. I think new items at Home Depot cost less than that. If I had a rental home maybe some of the materials might be worth it. They have some very decent looking countertop materials. I really like Stardust Building Supplies. Stardust is a nonprofit thrift shop offering salvaged & used building materials. I have been recycling for years as I hate throwing things in the landfill. I take any usable construction materials to Stardust. They don't take everything like used carpet, open containers of grout and some other items. I have found quite a few hard to find things there like cabinet doors, drawer fronts, ceramic tile that is no longer in stock and appliances. One time I found a granite sink top that was in great condition. The pictures are the master bath sink that was already there. I was able to find a sink top for the hall bath that matched and was about one third the cost of a new one. It is a plus that you can return things that don't work albeit it has to be within in a few days. Like all thrift stores this is a treasure hunt. Some things are beat up and some are in good shape. They have limited employees so there is not really anyone to help you find things. They also support the animal rescue called Lost Our Home and have one section for large donations like furniture and art. read more

They have a pretty good selection of used household items at good prices. We were looking for one base cabinet to use as a base for an island in our kitchen. We saw a cabinet we really liked, asked for the price and were told it was part of a set and could not be sold individually. No big deal we decided to keep looking. A few minutes later there was another woman looking at the same cabinet and was told she could buy just one or two of the set if she wanted, so that's not cool. Found another cabinet we liked and asked if it was on sale. The sign at the front of the store said "50% off all single cabinets". The guy first said only cabinet sets, but I showed him the sign and then he said that was only for cabinets that have been there since August, but the sign says clearly all single cabinets. He was pretty rude about it. We ended up leaving and not getting anything. read more

Regarding Stardust's Demo Services: Five stars for great service on the phone, one star for canceling a job at 1:30 p.m. on a Friday afternoon before a demo scheduled for the following Monday morning... I was asked to put off the demo until Thursday (impossible when considering that other contractors were scheduled around the start date that was set several weeks ago). So... I know nothing about the company, but loved the idea of a free demo and kitchen materials that can be recycled. Cancelations like these can really affect a remodel schedule, so be very careful when scheduling a demo and make sure you have a commitment if you're running on a fixed schedule. read more

Save your money, a lot of not so great items and lots of people donating items that aren't working, because they are home and clearing out their junk they don't want to pay the dump to take, so it ends up here. Honestly you are better off going and getting new items from Lowe's, ACE or Home Depot, at least you'll have a full warranty on all your items, save time, the employees will be able to further assist you with your important questions and you'll have less hassles all around. I recommend selling your old items yourself or donating to someone in need during these hard times, something to consider. read more

I am a young new homeowner and went to this store so I could purchase a gently used dishwasher. Well I got one and it was what I wanted in color and size and it appeared to be very clean and able to be used. Well I hook the thing up and run it with nothing in it so I can test it out, as they have no way to truly test the dishwashers at their facility. The dishwasher ran but would not drain. Well I went and got another one that was fairly cheap, but again it was a newer model, again was told it worked and brought it home. 2nd dishwasher also would not drain. Point is,they have a lot of appliances and run down items they are selling for cheap. be careful because you don't know what defects your purchase has and if you don't return within 7 days you only get store credit up to 30 days after purchase. as if that would even be worth it. Never shopping here again. I suggest you don't either. read more

Interesting mix of building supplies. I was looking for a shabby chic door, but didn't find what I was looking for. It appears that timing is everything here. Saw some cool stuff in the "sold" area. Cabinet sets, appliances, countertops, doors. You can see recent additions to inventory on their website. Not very convenient to any highway. Unless you count US60 as a "highway" in the West Valley. Other locations in The Valley. Star added for being a charitable organization. Donate supplies, get involved, have them do your "deconstruction" project. read more

I've had it with Stardust I've bought many cabinets from them in the past. Today I bought a toilet tank lid. I was shocked when he said it's $20 they used to sell a whole toilet for $35 in 3 different pieces the lid was $5. Now it's 4 times that? Something they got for free as a donation. That's ridiculous. I'm done with them this is nuts and they know the alternative is go to a plumbing supply store because home improvement stores don't sell them. So they got ya. read more

I called for pick up. They came to the door and said the could not take any of it. There were 2 new counter tops still in paper. Needless to say I did not show them the cabinets in the garage--they had been out of the carton for a month, so I know they would not be usable. I would thing they would be willing to take and recycle items they can not use. Needless to say my items will go someplace else. read more

My husband and I bought a refrigerator plus a washer and dryer and several ceiling fans from Stardust. We have had all of them for almost 4 years now and they are still working like champs. The fan motor on the refrigerator seems to be failing now, but I find it amazing that we purchased it used and have had it for so long and it's the only problem we seem to be having with it. The employees there were amazing and so helpful. They even helped us load everything onto the trailer. We will definitely be shopping there again in the near future if we can't fix the refrigerator. I bought an office chair for $10 and when I went to pay, they asked me for just $3 and I asked why. The man pointed to a sign behind me which said, office chairs are just $3 today. He said they just received 200 of them and so they are cheap! Be sure to check the specials, when you arrive there, because I was prepared to pay $10 for the chair. It's a nice one and I'm sitting in it, as I write this. Many things in the store are way, way, way overpriced and it seems, if you're interested in something, they want a lot of money for it and you could be overcharged. Since all the stuff comes in as a donation from builders, they get it free and they want to get rich on everything you buy. I give them three stars, because you can get 70% off, as I did on the office chair or you can get clipped when they overcharge you. My impression of the store is that it's a smattering of junk and vintage designs, but one could luck out. I would not go to this store, because there is no consistency in pricing. I would not recommend the store, because most of the stuff is overpriced, old, broken, used up and obsolete. What any retailer should do is price the garbage very, very low to earn a good reputation and to get it out of the store before customers see it. IT'S GARBAGE! When stuff is a rare treasure, price it so that it sells, but it isn't given away. After all, it's free to Stardust! Someone donated it! The main flaw with this store is poor merchandising! read more
