for many years I've searched for a specific part on my cartridge for my Technics 1200 turntables. The wires that connect from the cartridge to the head unit. The only way I could buy them was to purchase a new head unit. Mine are custom all gold plated so I don't need new headshells just the wiring. I used to shop Marvac Electronics before they moved from the location across on the other side of Harbor like a block north. When they moved I thought they closed down, until one day driving by I saw the sign. I've built bass bottom 15", crossover, wiring, connectors, plugs that I've purchased over the years from here. They don't sell junk that's for sure. Stuff from Amazon or eBay are cheap China products. Marvac has some top quality merchanise that lasts. The speakers I built in 1985 and to this day all the wiring the speakers everything is in top working order. Quality!! in the picture, all the connectors wiring, plugs, speakers, mids and tweeters were all purchased at Marvac Electronics. I don't DJ anymore but the set up is in my garage and I still crank it up. read more

Just purchased a new bench panavise from them. The item that arrived looked like it had been heavily used with multiple scratches, dents, torn and worn label, etc. Looks like they took it off one of their benches and put it in a box, charged us full price as anew item and then shipped it. Sent them photos and asked for a return shipping label as well as a full refund. DISGRACEFUL! This is why everyone buys from Amazon - small businesses like Mar Vac can't get away with treating customers like this. Companies like this need to be run out of business. read more

It's important to understand what MarVac is, and what it is not. MarVac has stayed in business, as Radio Shack and Fry's and all the computer stores around it, have died and faded away. It seems to me that MarVac has done this, by stocking ONLY what I would call "timeless inventory." Switches. Cabling. Soldering supplies. Masking supplies. Relays, capacitors, resistors, transistors. Copper etching chemicals. The vast majority of stock in the store, would be immediately familiar to an engineer from 1990. The flip side is that they carry NO motherboards, CPUs, memory, or any other device or connection that might seem dated in a few years. That inventory ages like bananas, and you won't find it here. Damaged my $1200 device and Deno supposedly the owner lied to my face saying he saw it damaged when I brought it in, the. When I challenged him that he wasn't even there, then he says I saw it when my worker "BILL" showed it to me Which was after the fact. Not even for a second taking into consideration that customer might be right. Horrible attitude and customer service. Horrible experience Simple speaker cord splice extension job Employee Saul was going to leave the work order blank I insisted he write down $25 he quoted to do entire job. He never explained the $25 was for labor and 12 feet of cable additional I was the brunt of abusive language and fighting in person over an employee who called Saul to hold him accountable for not telling me the truth $25 became $40. Ridiculous I would never go back or recommend this shop Art Scott Demo Had Saul wrote down a full quote Labor is this much part and been honest from the start I would certainly paid the $40 I asked your employees to pull the original hand written quote to verify what Saul wrote. They looked at me like I was a two year old and claimed they would have to dig through the trash. Sloppy Train your employees to write down what they promise and keep it in binders. Common sense. The fact that I had to ask write down what he quoted was a huge red flag For Saul to lie over the phone and then justify the labor took 2 hours was bullshit. read more

You just have to go here, or Orvac Electronics in Fullerton, CA. If you live anywhere in their proximity (Costa Mesa, CA or Fullerton, CA), I just have to rave about their service I've received both times I visited their location, which is not close to me. Compared to an ongoing pattern of markedly poor service at most of the Radio Shacks I've visited (the associates were helpful in Avalon) in different cities, the service I again received (today) at Mar-Vac Electronics was absolutely terrific! The super friendly and helpful people at this long-time and very venerable company give you nothing less than the best service AND with the MOST knowledgeable people in the electronics business, BAR NONE. While Radio Shack's one employee who seemed knowledgeable said he was too busy to help me out while he was constantly on the phone. The second time I went there today, they had about 8 customers, so I threw in the shopping towel there to end up driving about 40 miles to Mar-Vac electronics, which was so worth it! They had the exact replacement part for my sailboat and the necessary associated parts! This is where the pros shop for basic electronics supplies to the very high end equipment-that as a layman, I know absolutely nothing about. I wish this company could be as numerously placed/conveniently located as Radio Shack...but as I've experienced, the QUALITY of SERVICE, at least what I have experienced both times, has been PERFECT!!! Marvac is the mecca for mechanical engineers, the Shangrila for solderers, the Disneyland for all things digital. With massive selections for capacitors, resistors, cables, soldering irons, etc, you will definitely find what you want if it's electronic related. Their prices are good but not quite as good as the cheapest online shop but you should definitely support your local brick and mortar shops because they have convenient return policies and the ability to feel exactly how ridiculous 14 gauge wire really is. read more

I have been shopping at Marvac for over 40 years! Today I went to the store and I was APPAULED! The store is 1/10th the size and so crowded you can't find anything. It reminded me of a slum lord Radio Shack! Did they have what I wanted? Well, yes and no. I went in for TV alignment tools and they had a set so I was ok with that. I also wanted some Tin-it or PC board trace tinning solution. They didn't have it, don't carry it and won't order it! Sooooo, ORVAC, here I come...you should too ;) read more

This USED to be my go to place for electronics pieces I needed/wanted for building controllers for my aquariums. While many of the parts could be had up the street at Radio Shack (and sometimes for cheaper) I like going out of my way to try and support local businesses. Unfortunately, the last few times I have been into the store the customer service has been absolutely horrible. Most of the folks working on the weekend are ok but during the week be prepared to be blatantly ignored by the people who work around the parts desk. Marvac, if you are going to consolidate your store down to a smaller size and make customers reliant on your parts desk then HAVE PEOPLE WILLING TO HELP ACTUALLY WORKING THE COUNTER. It's really 'Business 101' kind of stuff so I'm not sure why that is so hard for Marvac to accomplish. read more

Marvacs does not observe basic consumer rights. They refused to honor the shelf price claiming the posted price was merely faded. I have photos which I am happy to share! The supposed faded number was not the current posted price but a barely legible bleed through of an older label. I was all but thrown out for questioning the matter. As a fellow business owner I have referred my customers to Marvacs many times for items I don't stock. I have also purchased many items from Marvac over the years as they are one of the only electronic dealers left in the area. I will no longer do business with or refer anyone to a company that is more concerned with their bottom line then customer satisfaction. Amazon and Digikey will be the suppliers of choice. read more

MarVac is the definition of a small, family-run business. Every time I am in the store there is someone three times my age talking about coming here 20-30 years ago. There is a small staff, but it is obvious that they actually care about what you're looking for and put in alot of effort to find it. They've been local to Costa Mesa for generations and if you're a fan of supporting local business Marvac is definitely where you need to go. With the demise of Radio Shack it's hard to find components but Mar Vac has whatever you're looking for. I was intimidated by the shear size of the store and it's contents.
