Laptop take a dump? Ours did. We first patronized this small business almost 8 years ago, purchasing our first lap top, a Fujitsu, in late 2007. The inconvenience of time and distance (a 30 mile trip) made our being a repeat customer not feasible. But we had come to him more than once for assistance early on, and were always satisfied customers. Not sure where or how Mr. B bought his 2009 Asus laptop, it was not through Notebook Shop. The other day, its motherboard crashed and was totally, unarguably beyond repair. Since the older Fujitsu still worked, we limped through (noticeably slow in today's terms) while we went shopping around. We got to thinking about Notebook Shop again and felt comfortable repeating our business. A quick trip to NS had Mr. B drooling and pondering over an HP Probook. We went home and slept on it, and the next day Mr. B declared he wanted that Probook that Richard had shown him. What an easy sale, nothing remarkable other than it was quickly over. He called Richard around closing time and ordered it over the phone. Richard said he could have it ready in a few hours. It was ready to carry out the door when we arrived the next morning. Richard had installed Windows 7 Professional (which we are already familiar with), Microsoft Office 2010 and Kaspersky Anti Virus; we had asked for nothing more. Mr. B walked out the door within minutes with a legal sized, white envelope containing the bill of sale, and a box containing his Probook. Nice computer. Does exactly what he wanted, he is not a high maintenance user. The no-glare screen is great. The processing is quite fast as compared to his older one. And it better be! However, I have one big concern, the warranty. There is no mention of one on the bill of sale, and upon looking up the HP warranty online by serial number, their's appear to expire in about 2 1/2 months. Am I to assume Notebook Shop is good for the one year warranty he promised verbally? Not sure. I always want things in writing, but see nothing on the receipt. Shame on me for not getting involved in the actual sale. Small business or large, this issue should be disclosed with complete candor. SMH. Hence, the 3 stars with a potential upgrade to my rating later. read more

Can't recommend this place more! My computer died and Apple was unable to retrieve my data and the only option they suggested was sending my computer to a place up North to retrieve the data with their system and they quoted me $900-$4,000! I was hopeless until Paul saved me! He did so much research and figured out a way to retrieve my data by using another computer and did what Apple was not able to do and for a very reasonable price! I realized about a week ago that I was in big trouble. My desktop computer where I did most of my photo, video and document management and storage was not finding its most precious drive... my 2 TB hard drive. To offer context, I scan ALL my documents... financial, receipts, legal... EVERYTHING! In addition, I am about to celebrate my first child's first birthday... so all those photos and videos... ALL MISSING! My computer isn't brand new, so given that the drive was completely missing (vs a corrupted message,) I assumed that it was just time for a new computer. I headed into the Notebook Shop... a go-to that I have been going to for all my computer repair needed for about 5 years and he informed me I was sorely mistaken. That the computer was fine... but my hard drive and all its data was the problem! He wasn't sure it would be recoverable other than spending hundreds to thousands of dollars at a data recovery center... but he would give it the college try. They were able to recover over 240GB of lost data from my external hard drive!! The internet said is couldn't be done, and others were going to cost me a fortune for the amount of data that had to be recovered. I've had both Richard and Jovi assist me and they've always been forthright and fair! I had spent a terribly frustrating 4 weeks with Microcenter repair (they cloned a virus onto a new hard drive!) I was referred to Notebookshop and have never felt more secure. No matter what problem I have, they take care of it. And quickly. Their prices very reasonable for the skill levels they represent. And their computer prices are equally reasonable. I have a Fujitsu that travels easily and have had none of the headaches I had with pricier bigger name laptops. I've taken in old laptops there were destined for the trash and computers with such a mangled mess of virus I didn't believe anyone could salvage them. But somehow, they do. This is just classic. As suggested by the best customer service, Richard, I called on Sunday to talk to this Weekend only person. I called around 3PM on Sunday. It was the previous sales person, he heard that I wanted to know the status of my order, he then quickly transfered me to Jovi, the weekend only guy. It tuns out, this Jovi person is trying to play the same game as Richard! When I first started to explain myself and the situation all over again, as soon as he heard the name RICHARD, he said, "Oh I don't know about that, I think you best talk to Richard and see about your order." WHAT?! I immediately stopped him and ask him to please listen to what I have to say first. He complied and I am actually grateful, because that Richard guy wouldn't shut up and listen. Anyway, after he had heard what I have to say (basically what I had typed the first time, he told me that he doesn't know my order and Richard never gave anything to him. He would have to talk to Richard on Monday and will give me a call back. SERIOUSLY? Mind you, I already talked to this weekend person once before. He told me to wait 1 to 2 more weeks 2 weeks ago. Are you kidding me? Monday is the last straw. --------------------------------------- Monday. Doomsday. I went to their store and immediately saw Richard in his comfortable chair in the back. He saw me and greeted me. I told him I wanted a refund, as he took the purchase/service order from my hand I said, "Remember me? The Acer power jack?" He then quickly said yes and went to the front and working on getting my refund. (Oh yippee one star for the efficiency on giving the money back to the customer, hooray.) Just as he swipe my card through, once again he said, "I am sorry, but we have no control over it." Sigh. I said, okay I yelled, "How can you not have control over the shipment you ordered? Why do I have to talk to some Jovi and track that person down when it is you who placed the order?" Then I said my laptop is dead because of them. Which is true, but for their inefficiency and continuous warranty/guaranty on getting my power jack part "soon," I would've just gone to another place and fix my lap top already. He immediately shut up after that. After he kept me there for another 5 minutes because of the new sales tax thing he need to recalculate for their INTERNAL purpose. I asked him one last question, "Did you guys even place my order?" Not surprisingly, Richard said yes, they placed the order right after if not on March 6th (the day I went in the store). He then started talking about how they have TWO different ways of ordering parts and JOVI, the weekend only guy who he now claims he is the SUNDAY only guy, I guess I must've been talking to a GHOST on Saturday 2 weeks ago, is only in charge of one route. And conveniently enough, my "order" is the OTHER route! So all this time, these people telling me to talk to JOVI, the guy who is in CHARGE of purchasing parts, is not even in charge of EVERYTHING that has to do with purchasing. The funny thing is, Jovi came out from the back room, because he heard me yelling and talked about his name. He then said how he'll take care of the order and it'll only take two days. Wait are you telling me you didn't place the order yet?! Seriously, WTF? BASTARDS! Conclusion? This store might be good if they actually start to care about their customers. I applaud them for giving me my money back so quickly, but that is not what I really wanted in the end was it? I wanted to get my laptop fixed and quick. I have purchased three laptops over several years from The Notebook Shop and have always received excellent service - installing operating systems, setting up email accounts, restoring data, anything and everything. They have always done a great job of communicating with me - cost, time, what could and couldn't be done. Things have always been completed exactly when they said they would be!!! Anyway, the reason I'm writing this review is because this week I lost all my digital photos because of a hiccup in my Carbonite backup. Well, I thought the d partition was getting backed up and it never was. We are talking 13 years of pictures from the moment my kids were born. I was heartsick. I had just been in there recently for virus removal and had that laptop wiped clean and windows 7 installed. I desperately took it in and Richard did not make any promises, he was honest about the fact that it could be really ugly. Anyway, he scanned it and was able to retrieve 5000 pictures. He put them all on an external drive (which I should have had in the first place). I am just so grateful I can hardly speak. I was lucky enough to find the NOTEBOOKSHOP while doing research on where to get my computer fixed. I called and spoke to Paul. After a brief conversation, I was convinced this was the shop for me and I jumped in the car and headed to Paul's shop. Paul explained best and worst case scenarios, quoted me a fair price and I was on my way. Approximately 2.5 hours later, Paul calls and says my computer is ready for pick-up. I was amazed at how quickly he completed the project. When I returned to pick-up my computer, Paul walked me thru what he had to do, demonstrated the computers functionality and then proceeded to charge me LESS than the quoted amount. Now that's HONESTY for you. He could have charged me the full amount and I would have been satisfied and returned to his shop in the future. Now, I am for sure a customer for life thanks to Paul, his expertise and of course his honesty. Worst store you can go to ever. They short credit over $190 for a return of malfunctioned laptop computer day after we bought it. They recommended wrong computer for photography work so they recommended another one which we paid $300 more. Computer malfunctioned very same day we bought it and returned it next day but they credit us back $190.05 as a restocking charge. I called and requested credit on balance $190.05 and asked for the owner but despite several attempt he never returned a phone call. They would not even give owner's name. RIPOFF !!! I really should have written this review some time back, but being in and out of the hospital I never got around to it. As I was saying, this happened some time back (early to mid 2013). I asked my wife to see if it would be feasible to have an older laptop fixed (Dell Vostro 1400). I suggested she find someone local that might be able to get an estimate on it. She found These guys and thought that their special of $49.95 to have it looked over was not bad because they told her that the $49.95 would go towards the overall bill should she decide to have it fixed. So a couple of days later she calls and was told that with parts and labor it would be under $200.00. She thought cool, with the $49.95 already invested, it should be under $150.00 when she picks it up. NOT! She was charged a few dollars under $200.00 PLUS the $49.95. Of course all of this while she had everything in life, including my health on her mind. Feeling like she was taken to the cleaners, she hoped and prayed I would approve when I was released from the hospital. I was furious! Not so much that she had it fixed, because she thought she was doing something nice for me. No, I was just really pee'd off at this store's business practices. Dealing with laptops all of the time, they had to know that our Dell wasn't worth half of what they charged. Why couldn't they have mentioned that to my wife and offered alternative ways of dealing with it. Example: For the $49.95 you have spent we can retrieve your stuff from the hard drive. Or for $200.00 or so more we can offer a better model laptop. No, instead it was ream city for an unsuspecting woman that happened into the shop. I'm going to end this simply by saying that my wife works for THE largest corporation in IRVINE. Anyone who lives here knows what COMPANY I'm talking about. I bought my first PC from them shortly after they opened, and the service was outstanding, So over the years I've continued buying from them and I've probably bought over a dozen laptops from them personally for my own business use and personal use plus for my wife and sons. Plus my business buys computers for our customers and we've bought literally dozens of laptops for use in extremely demanding video applications. They always work hard to select just the right pc at the right price and the best options for each requirement I have. And the after sales service is outstanding. My customers (and sons) are hard on PCs and many times I've grabbed a sandwich next door and its all ready when I get back. I'm not generally a fan of electronic stores. I'm not comfortable in places like Best Buy. But, I needed a new laptop, so I went here on my friends' recommendations. This store is clean and organized. In the middle of a Saturday afternoon it wasn't at all crowded. We wound up being personally helped by the owner. He asked what our requirements were and was very knowledgeable about the computers we were looking at. He also gave us some great information about why some laptops were more suitable than others. After choosing a laptop that was even lower than what I expected to pay, they offered a service to setup the computer (at no cost) and we were on our way home in less than an hour. As promised, I only had to turn on the computer, connect to my internet at home and I was all set! I was so impressed with the knowledge and attitude of the staff, I brought my wife's all but abandoned computer (with Microsoft Windows XP) to see if I could get it working again (or buy another computer, hopefully one without Microsoft Windows 8). Richard listened carefully to what I wanted, and explained why repairing it was better in this situation rather than buying a new laptop. After he carefully explained the charges to me, twice, we agreed on going for repair and upgrade to Microsoft 7. Even though they told me it would be done that day, I was stilled surprised when I got the call later that evening. Not only did he bring the dead to life, he even was able to recover photos we thought we lost forever. All at a third of the cost of a new computer! So, in less than 36 hours, I had two fast computers and one happy wife. A happy wife makes a happy life. Completely painless experiences. I would totally recommend this store to anyone. read more

I took in my Dell Inspiron 1545 in for a power jack replacement on 8/12/11 and they said it would be done on 8/16 after they ordered the part. They called me on 8/16 to come in, I thought it was done but they hadn't even ordered the part they just wanted to charger for when it got there and said it would be ready by 9/4. So I call on 9/4 they don't have the part yet but have opened up my laptop. I go to pick it up on 9/8 and finally this ridiculously and uneccessarily long process is over. I am glad it finally got done but it took much longer than needed. I will not return even if they are the only place that can fix my computer. I did not like their service but the job seems to be good ( I haven't gotten home yet). read more
