My son wanted to build his own gaming computer. I thought, what could go wrong with that? Ha! He watched a YouTube video to figure out what components he needed. We ordered the components online. He and I put the computer together in a few hours. When we went to switch it on...nothing happened. No power. No lights. No display. Nothing, nada, bupkis. We took everything apart and put it back together with no luck. My son did some troubleshooting and determined it was either the motherboard, CPU, or power supply. Wow, son, that really narrows it down for dear old Dad. He decided we better call in a pro. I agreed. He found Computer Runner. It is close to home, so I gave them a call. They told me to bring it in. I dropped it off at about 5:00 on Thursday. Friday morning I got a call. They told me they needed to do a deep diagnostic. The price for the diagnostic would be wrapped into the repair price. I asked them to call me with an estimate. A few hours later we had the estimate. We okayed the work. A bit after that, they called and said they noticed we did not have Windows installed. We had them go ahead and do that for us. A bit later, they called and told us to come pick up the computer. My computer would not power on. I brought it to Computer Runner and they did the complimentary diagnostic. Scott was friendly and helpful throughout the process. They got back to me in about 24 hours. They told me they needed to do a more thorough diagnostic as the complimentary diagnostic could not detect the problem. Upon finishing the second diagnostic they were able to identify the problems with my computer. My computer was fixed within a week from bringing it in. I am overall incredibly happy with the results and my computer is up and running again. I will definitely come back for any future needs! read more

The hinges on my laptop seized up and it couldn't close anymore without causing damage to the casing, + the screen was ready to pop off the hinges. I did some really brief research for a laptop repair place and found these guys, the reviews seemed good so I took it in. Took three days (I had to call them back to ask about it) and cost me $142 or so to fix the hinges on my screen (no idea what they did to fix it but it certainly involved removing the bezel and opening up the upper panel). They said I should minimize opening and closing it at all (lol, it's a laptop though). I took it home (during which point it was closed in transit), opened it, began working, and I adjusted the screen very minorly, once, and I heard that same loud SNAP of it breaking apart again. I took it back to them the next day. To their credit they didn't charge me for fixing it the second time, and the manager came out to explain it to me like I was a) a five year old and b) like they were doing me a huge favor for not charging. They also told me the hinges could not be fixed! It didn't make sense to me but who was I to question professionals? NEEDLESS TO SAY.... it broke again after maybe 2 days of minimal screen-movement. Never going back there. It's a few months later and my screen has been incurring damage from the seized hinges so I had to find another place to take it to (Abarely) and they're charging me........ $180 for screen replacement AND fixing the hinges. I was apprehensive because of course, Computer Runner told me the hinges couldn't be fixed, and I was ready to pay for replacement, but... No, they fixed them SAME DAY and sent me home with my laptop while we wait for the replacement screen to come in, so I can still work in the meantime. Absolutely bonkers experience, but a learning experience at least. read more

Wow. You know how you want to find that shade tree auto mechanic you can trust with your car? Well Sammie is that guy for your technology equipment. Not the easiest place to find, tucked away at the end of a cul de sac not far from the Roma d'Italia restaurant. But I'm sure the rent is reasonable, which keeps prices down. The shop is fairly small but reassuringly chock full of tech equipment and test gear. My super expensive very high end monitor had been fried when California Edison shut down and restarted the power to my neighborhood. This was preplanned and the monitor was off but not unplugged from the UPS. My bad. Two days without power was pretty horrendous though, and a week on generators after that. Crazy. Funny how you learn to take power for granted. Anyway, I looked on line. Figured it was a fried power supply. And saw very few parts on line for around $150. Sammie fixed it for less than $200 total, and his estimate had been a little higher. Under budget is much appreciated. Keep in mind this is not your typical DC monitor but a really big AC unit with every kind of connection imaginable, it's own built in card reader, very high resolution screen, etc. Delivered on time. Great communication getting authorization to proceed. Friendly people. Zero complaints. Highly recommend. read more

Scott and Sam were great! Sam worked diligently on my 12 inch retina MacBook. The laptop would no longer turn on. I was quoted an outrageous $600 to repair it at Apple, quite literally half of what I originally paid for it. They quoted us a really, really fair price. Considering that they replaced all the parts in it, I don't think they made any money off of fixing it for me at all. I highly recommend taking your computer/laptop here. Had a leak and failure in my liquid cooling system for my desktop causing damage to my motherboard and gpu. Not only did they replace the cooling system, they also did an amazing job cleaning and repairing the individual components. Amazing repair shop! To begin, I am reasonably technical and have done a bit of work on my laptop (HDD install, wifi card replacement, RAM replacement, and numerous software related stuff). That being said, I snapped a piece of my hinge cover (which bugged the crap out of me) and I was planning on replacing it myself. I even ordered the part but after looking at the scope of the work however and having further pieces snap off of the hinge cover/palmrest, I decided needed it fixed - and quick. I called around to some big-name stores - who all didn't perform the "scope" of work I was looking for. Then I searched "local computer repair" and found Computer Runner. I gave them a call and spoke with a nice man who told me he was pretty sure they could do the job but would like to see it all before saying so on the phone. Totally reasonable. I arrived (side note: the map location on the Yelp map is incoccorrect, that is, the address is correct but the shop is located near Walnut & Jamboree NOT Newport and the I-5), replacement part in hand and these guys were extremely upfront after taking a look at the laptop. I was walked through what would need to be done, the cost, and estimated time. Despite being a time consuming repair which required essentially dissecting the computer from the rear, Computer Runner got the job done same day - which is important for someone who uses their computer for work. I was incredibly impressed with the quality of the repair and the price was EXTREMELY reasonable. They are great! I called in January after trying to cancel a Geeksquad appointment (they never answer their phone). I spoke with Sam about the two computers (laptop that wouldn't turn on and desktop tower), and he asked me to stop by. The drop off process was easy and they said they would let me know what the issue was before fixing anything. The prices he quoted me for both were reasonable and so was the timeframe to diagnose the issue. I decided to leave my laptop only as it is my main computer; it was ready within a week. Easy, affordable, and good customer service! It was working fine for about two months and then it started to freeze. I called and they told me to bring it in. It took about 4 days to fix and they charged me since it was a couple months out from the last time, which was understandable (it's their time/labor). It worked for a couple days, then started freezing again. I emailed Sam and he replied quickly, but I was busy so I didn't drop it off again. Instead, I went through my files since they said it could be a corrupted file. I saved important dox/photos to an external hard drive and deleted most files off of the computer. My Lenovo laptop that was less than 1 year old stopped working (loop of Microsoft blue screens of death) and these guys were able to recover all my data from it. It took days of effort to do it but they charged me the originally quoted amount that was very reasonable especially when compared to other places like Best Buy. TERRIBLE place to go.i wish i can rate 0 star I ve been using yelp for half a year but i register today just to WRAN ppl that considering going to there. here s the thing. i sent my laptop which is a foreign model to got it fixed for my screen is broken. the guy called Sam said that the screen gotta be replaced and has to order from Canada. its 260$(labor not counted). i said cool. and deposited 100$. 1 week later. that guy got a wrong screen and gotta return it. but he CHARGED me my 100 bucks for a fucking cable without telling me before. well fine. i can take it as long as my laptop can be fixed quick. and then i ordered the screen from China by my self.which its only 100$. after that i dont wanna go back there anymore. so i asked my IT-major friend to put it on for me. and he found out that SOME OF MY SCREWS WERE STOLEN BY THEM. in one word. that Sam guy doesnt know shit of computer. all he knows is that money is green and he loves it. Had a very, very good experience here with Sam (Sammie?). I had a 27', $400, Korean monitor that had a blown-out PCB board. Looked online, and the replacement would cost me $150 alone. Decided to drop by here, hoping for any chance to save some money. The interior of the place looks a little shabby, and the old flip phones they keep around on display kind of made me hesitant to give them a modern piece of technology. But fear not; they've kept up with their times. Sam quoted me on a price, and told me to come back later. Precisely two days later, I get a call back, and Sam says everything is ready to go. Within those 2 days, he kept me updated on the status of the repairs. He did quote me $45 when we first met, but after finishing, told me the repairs would be $60. I was a little dismayed, but he did lower it down to $55, as he seemed to slightly recall what he'd offered me on the first day. I didn't mind though, as it would have cost me a fortune to mail it back to Korea and whatnot for repairs. Sam, as well as the Asian gentleman who was the actual technician offered tips to prolong my monitor's life, and threw a little extra knowledge of monitor connector cables my way, before leaving. Overall, my monitor is now working like brand-new, and I'm quite happy with the outcome. I'd definitely give this place another chance. You'll notice I deducted one-star. It's due to a few scratches on the bezels around my monitor that I've never had before. I am quite anal about my products, and keeping them in perfect condition. But again, the trade-off for a few scratches for my monitor to be back in working condition was well-worth it. To be fair, my monitor is big as heck, and just as heavy. I'm sure it was an accident. 10/10 customer service experience. 9/10 repairs experience. 10/10 would return. Oh, and consultation for your device is free. They'll also order more parts if necessary for you, and charge you the exact price of the item. The only thing they charge for is labor. If you don't like the price of the item that they ordered for you, they'll even provide you with the name and model number, so that you can buy it somewhere for cheap yourself. It's been a long time since I've seen such an honest business being run; they're so rare to come across. I don't normally write reviews, and moreso, reviews this long, but I can assure you that is how well I was treated here; enough to get me to get off my lazy-butt and give them the credit they deserve. read more

I have used Computer Runner twice this year and they have been great. First time was to transfer data from some old hard drives that I could not access. Second time was my kids gaming PC bombed out - windows wouldn't load. They work quickly, they explain in layman's terms what the issues are, and took the time to discuss with my 12-year old what he should and shouldn't be doing in order to maintain the health of his PC. I am very disappointed. I am disappointed that Yelp only allows up to 5-stars for my review of Computer Runner. I would prefer a 6 or 7 star option. I have a laptop that had a 500GB solid state drive. Unfortunately, it was filling up and I had to move all photos and videos up into Google Drive or Dropbox. That's not bad, but I went to see Sam (owner) about my options. He was unhurried even though it was near the end of the day. He took the time to explain my options, and assured me that he would be able to image/copy my current hard drive EXACTLY onto a new 1 TB sold state drive. Keep in mind, the laptop is currently functioning perfectly. I had some reservations in worrying that files would be lost, items on the desktop would be lost, etc. etc., but I agreed to let them do the work. Two days later, I pick up the laptop. It had been cleaned, the drive replaced and now with 500GB of new available memory, and EVERYTHING else, programs, files, even the desktop files and background image were perfectly as I left it with them. Sam's young employee (sorry, I forgot the name) finished out the transaction when I arrived to pick it up. For a young computer guy, he was not only knowledgeable (I think he did the actual work) but very pleasant, and utterly focused on customer service and satisfaction. We had three laptops that needed fixing for all different reasons. One they were able to fix on the spot within 10 minutes of us walking in. The other two we left and they were able to fix in 2 days! I came in with my Sony VAIO, it was 7 years old and the hard drive was literally gone but the problems were more than that and I thought I lost everything and would have to go get a new one. I wasn't very hopeful when I brought my 8 year old computer in. I knew the power supply was giving me problems, and the hard drive was acting up. I was astounded when I was told that the computer was ready, and the price was more than reasonable.
