This was my 2nd visit to Adam's Electronics. The first time was for a printer and this time was for a camera. I was a bit skeptical bringing my camera in. I needed a memory card door replaced, which needed some electrical wires to be removed in the process. It is an expensive Sony camera so my concern was valid. They replaced the camera part and the camera is working. Their knowledge working on electronics is vast and their work is precise. Took a Denon CD player and a Sony cassette player here for repairs. The cassette player needed a new belt and new pinch rollers installed; I provided the new parts. The CD player I thought was not producing any output to the digital outputs, but played fine through the analog output. It turns out that there was nothing wrong with the CD player, as the tech called me and stated it played fine, so we determined the problem was with my amplifier and not the CD player. So the tech never did anything beyond playing a CD through the player, but they still charged me the full $160 diagnostic charge. The cost on the cassette player was $320 which seems a bit high, but at least some actual work was done on that unit. When I asked if I could get a reduction on the diagnostic charge for the CD player the owner/manager declined. I was not looking for a full refund, but just a reduction of even $40 would have gone a long way towards developing good customer rapport. (UPDATE) Well, I just plugged the cassette player into my stereo system and lo and behold, it still has the same problems it had when I took it in, and maybe even worse. So I paid $320 and spent quite a bit of time and gas money to drive back and forth from San Diego to Huntington Beach just to be left in the same position I was in at the start. I spoke with Scott, the manager, and he wants me to drive the unit back up to them and sit with the tech so we can see the problem together; not a bad idea if I lived closer. I'm going to speak with the tech tomorrow morning by phone and will update this review afterwards. read more

I have an HK Elements E110AS subwoofer that had low volume on both the sub and the line array column (when attached), and HK America recommended a list of local shops, the closest of which was Adam's Electronics in Huntington Beach. I brought in the sub, and described the problem to them: ie, it worked, but the volume was low compared to a properly functioning E100AS sub. I offered to leave behind a line array column and/or my other, properly functioning, E110AS, so they could compare it to a working system, verify the problem, and the fix. They declined this offer, saying their technicians would be able to handle it, and they didn't need the additional equipment to verify the problem. I foolishly believed them, and plopped down my $190 repair fee, with authorization to spend up to $300-something if they needed more time/parts. I waited about two weeks for a call, and then the blessed day arrived: they told me my sub was ready, and I could come pick it up! Lo and behold, when I arrived, I discovered that they had not been able to duplicate the problem, nor had they attempted any repairs. They apparently did inspect the various amplifier PCBs, and, I assume, at least disassembled and reassembled them. They indicated that the sub was functioning normally and never had a problem. I was skeptical, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt, and was hopeful that, perhaps, there was a loose connector or some other component that had wiggled itself back into place, and I now had a properly functioning E110AS. Unfortunately, that hope was ill-founded. The sub, as of this writing, the day I retrieved it from the shop, still has the low-volume issue. They did not fix it, and I believe they did not even understand that they were hearing a malfunctioning sub. If they'd listened to me in the beginning, and bothered to compare to the unit I offered to leave behind with them, the malfunction would have been obvious. They could easily have compared it to its mate, and heard how different the volume was. The fact that they still had the gall to keep my $190 payment after not following my advice, and making me wait two weeks only to find out they had not fixed my sub, nor even demonstrated the problem, as they said they could, is the icing on the cake. What a waste of my time and money. Zero stars, if that were an option. How this place became an authorized repair shop for HK audio (a high-quality pro audio speaker manufacturer) is beyond me. Adam's is not a pro audio repair shop. They might do ok with consumer electronics, but I'm extremely disappointed in both their lack of expertise in relation to HK Audio products, as well as their overplaced pride in their own troubleshooting ability. It's a fair point that HK Audio is not a common manufacturer, but if they are an authorized repair shop, you'd expect that they have the requisite knowledge about HK the products they are authorized to repair. Or if not, at least the humility to admit that the customer might actually know something about what's wrong with their own gear. read more

Took my reel to rewl tape deck for repairs. Charged me 160$ for diagnosis and another,$200 to repair. Paid them. But the repaired deck went back to pre repair condition same day! Took it back. They could not fix to $200 was returned to me. They gave me a diagnosis that was totally wrong as diagnosed by another repair company I took it to same day I picked up from adams. They were chasing mechanical issues while the problem was an electronic issue! Did not refund $160 for incorrect diagnosis l. I dont think the technician Sunny Knew what he was doing after 2 months having kept the recorder. It was in worse shape after picking it up! read more

I took my JVC SR-DVMUS70 dubbing machine into Adam's Electronics. This machine is the core of my business GOBI ENTERTAINMENT PRODUCTION and it had a failed hard drive. I took in another similar machine for extra parts. A couple of weeks later they called with good news that they had fixed one of the machines but the other was unrepairable. So I went down to pick it up. Skyler was the receptionist and and delight to work with. I made the mistake of not checking the work before I left and when I got back to my Studio it didn't work. Since I had clients waiting I returned that Monday early and told them I was back to square one. I was informed by the Technician Bailey that the ride back to Santa Clarita might have jarred the hard drive causing it to fail. So I left it with Bailey, also a Pleasure to work with, and he immediately got on the job knowing I came all the way down from Santa Clarita. 3 hours later I tested it and it worked perfectly! They even bubble wrapped the machine so the ride back to Santa Clarita wouldn't cause it to fail. No charge! Now my clients are coming in and All is Great, thanks to Bailey and the bubble lady! I brought in my Ampeg amp in December because it was humming when the treble knob or gain knob were turned up. I just got it back in February. I have a warranty on the product which I purchased through Guitar Center. I got the run around from Guitar Center because they couldn't help me with it in any of their stores. They told me to call Ampeg. Ampeg diagnosed it over the phone, and said that it has a bad pre-amp tube. It is something I could have replaced myself, but since it is under warranty I wanted to have a technician check it out and see if there is anything else at the same time. The technician in San Diego was unavailable because his father was in the hospital, so I had to drive it 1 hour and 40 minutes to Adam's Electronics. The receptionist was friendly and took down my information. She told me it should take 4 - 6 weeks for them to get to it because of the holidays. I called Adam's in mid January to see how the repairs were going because I had a gig that weekend. They told me it wasn't ready because they were waiting on parts. I asked if I could talk to the tech working on it, but he was gone for the day. I told them to leave him a message that he could call me and I could describe what was happening, and that I could send a video I had taken. I then got a message the first week of February and they told me that there was nothing wrong and they were sending it back as is. I called back and asked to speak to the tech, but he was gone for the day again! This was maybe 10 minutes after he left me a message. They mailed it back to me, so I at least didn't have to make the drive again. I am just really frustrated that they lied to me and didn't even do the minimum to address the issue. I understand that customers can be tough and you just want to dismiss them sometimes, but the "waiting on parts" excuse when they were actually not doing anything is frustrating. As well, I offered to explain the problem in detail and share Ampeg's solution, but they didn't seem interested. It also took them 8 weeks to do nothing. I would not recommend. read more

If customers needed any parts we always refer them to our Parts Distributor PacParts. You may want to bring it to Electrotech in Glendale or George Meyer in LA to get it fix. This company lied and said this part is out of stock and that was the reason they couldn't fix my mixer. It's available with PAC parts and Pioneer. Please. Don't trust this place. They tried to charge me 240$ (had to fight for them to bring it down to 160$) just to "diagnose the issue" when I told him it needs a jog wheel. read more

I have used Adam's Electronics twice before to repair a Marantz Pre-Amp. This time I brought in my Marantz Amp to repair. Each time was fast and completely resolved the issue which involved one of the audio channels failing. Came across this spot after having coffee a few shops down. I asked the front clerk if they converted cassette tapes into DVDs and she said yes... then I asked if it's even the ones from 1995 she said yes, so went home and brought the tapes in. I paid about $20 for each one to be converted to a DVD. She gave me about a week turnaround time, I wasn't in a rush to get them. Later that day received a call that all of them were ready. Stopped making dinner and went down to pick them up. Watched them after dinner, great quality and an amazing way to bring back memories. read more

I took in a Maxell MC-WU8461 Projector. The unit would not focus after the bulb exploded. They charged me $320 to diagnosis. This would be applied to the repairs. I sent them several emails telling them I needed the projector ASAP for a meeting. They never responded. I call after almost two weeks and was told to call back in a week. I told them to cancel the repair. I would pick up the unit and get a refund. Then they changed the story and said the motor needs replaced, $2k. The motor worked, I just could not get the focus sharp. I would not trust these guys with a Projector. Maybe they are better with TV's, but they are not friendly, not responsive and I don't think the diagnosis was correct or even honest. read more

In the last 6 months they have lost two of our JVC pro cameras in shipping. The first camera box never even made it to us the note say's they put it in a locker the problem is we don't even have lockers in our building the 2nd camera was lost just last week I received the hard case but it was empty lol. Complete scam! Stay away! Brought a 20 year old Velodyne amplifier for a home theater subwoofer to Adam's for diagnosis and repair. They didn't even look at the amplifiers components to see what was wrong they just took my $250 and told me I needed a new board. This part from Velodyne is $800 according to them which is more than the amplifier is even worth. I came here for repair of components not for a new amplifier. Essentially, they unethically stole $250 from me with no work done at all. I got the amplifier back, sent it to a real repair facility and had it 100% perfectly up and running for less than $200. I would steer clear from this scam, and go to an ethical business. Shame on you Adam!! read more

Had a Marantz Cinema 50 under warranty serviced here. the process was seamless - Adam's team took care of the logistics once I showed receipt. The experience with service was great - Scott kept me updated on progress and the unit was fixed earlier than expected (Appears most of the wait was in the part from the manufacturer). I would recommend. I use to work in a repair center so I know it's a lot of moving parts to get unit repair. Unfortunately wasn't repairable. Once the new year and christmas was over, they moved quickly to get a replacement out. Denon said it usually takes 5 to 10 business days for a replacement. It was a lot faster. Everything was covered by warranty. Overall, I would Come back for Denon warranty repair. read more
