After eating next door for a lunch, we saw the signs all over MartAnne's claiming they are "The House That Chilaquiles Built!" We were intrigued enough that we visited MartAnne's the very next night for dinner. That was on a Tuesday at around 6PM and it wasn't too busy the entire time we were there. House Horchata ($5.99) - This drink comes in a giant 32 oz Ball jar with tons of ice. Per the server it's made with milk and condensed milk, no rice milk at all. It's rich, thick, creamy, sweet, filled with earthy notes of vanilla and cinnamon. There's so much spice included that at some points, there's almost a gritty feeling while drinking. It's perfect for a hot day after hiking. Buckwheat Pancake ala carte ($4.99) - Buckwheat pancakes are something we've never seen before on a diner menu in the past. It seems to be pretty common around Arizona, so we had to give it a try before leaving Flagstaff. This one's pretty big, almost plate sized. It's really moist, fluffy, bouncy, and light with a slight sweetness and a certain earthy flavor. It's moist enough that it sticks to the ceramic plate it's served on. The pancake is somewhat crumbly due to the low gluten content of buckwheat, although I believe they use a mix of buckwheat and wheat flour to give some more stability. It's bluish grey in color with black specks of ground buckwheat throughout. It's dusted with powdered sugar, but it's not a ton, making the pancake not really sweet at all. The pancake comes with a small cup of their cinnamon honey butter. It's not mixed that well, leaving it mostly unhomogenized with streaks of honey and spice through the softened salted butter. Tamale ala carte ($4.99) - MartAnne's offers two types of tamales - the first a red chile beef, and the second a green corn and cheese. We went with the latter, which is a homemade tamale with a somewhat looser, coarsely ground masa shell surrounding an interior of yellow sweet corn kernels, a bouncy and somewhat spongy block of Oaxaca cheese, and a fragrant green chile. There's a slight sweetness throughout and the tamale overall is easy to eat. Chilaquiles, Xmas, Fratelli ($17.99) - This is a monster sized plate of a mishmash of ingredients. There are three things as essentially a base layer. Firstly some Mexican rice that's tender, moist, and fluffy, totally unlike the more common dry and and compact version. My guess is that they skip the initial frying step that helps keeps the starch together. It's quite fragrant and has gives a bit of heat. On top of the rice is a layer of hash browns. The potatoes are tender on the interior, griddled on one side to give a delightful crunch, although there's some acridity that develops. Another third of the plate is covered with chili beans - tender pinto beans that are well salted and seasoned. Then there's the eggs stuffed in between layers of corn tortilla chips, smothered with sauce. I went with the Christmas combination of red and green sauce, followed up by the Fratelli-style pork green chile. The green sauce is fragrant and vegetal, while the red sauce is more smoky. The pork, which is cut into chunks, on top is a bit tough and dry but there's more than enough sauce to make up for that slight demerit. Finally, there's a small mound of I believe jalapeno peppers, cut into small neon-green colored pieces. Some pieces are spicy, some are mild, all have a vegetal pepper taste. I found the food at MartAnne's to be pretty good. It definitely hits the spot after hiking all around the area for most of the day. Bathrooms - Two individual rooms, one for men, one for women. The only problem I have with it is that on a recent trip through town I made a point of stopping here with my dog, both their yelp listing and Apple maps listing have them down as dog friendly. Almost no one in the restaurant at 3pm. We were given the worst table in the place but asked to move. Maybe that made our server mad because she threw the utensils and napkins on the table. Never once smiled or told us her name. Extremely rude service. The food came fairly quickly but it was tasteless. Our server spent the rest of the time at the back table on her cellphone. Nothing authentic about this food. The salsa came in a tiny plastic fast food cup and tasted weird like oregano. Rice was tasteless and beans were right out of a can. The bill came and there's a surprise $1.75 service added charge for inflation. On top of horrible food and service. Don't be fooled by the cute decor...this place is BAD. To the owners: Better spend your extra $1.75 wisely because we will NEVER be back. We can't be the only ones that feel this way. It's sad because this place used to be epic. Not anymore! After a long day of driving to and from the Grand Canyon and exploring out in the sun, one of our friends found MartAnne's nearby as we arrived in Flagstaff. Thank goodness for his decision to come here because it was the food highlight of our whole trip! We were greeted right away at the counter and escorted to a table for our group of 4. On a Friday night, the restaurant was definitely busy, but we lucked out with finding parking in the lot and also getting a table. After a short wait to look through the menus (breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all served all day), we decided on chilaquiles (Christmas), pozole and a tamale, a pork chimichanga, and the LGBLT sandwich with fries - quite an assortment! The interior decor is a feast for the eyes while waiting for the food. The red walls and decorated with paintings and art throughout, which we enjoyed talking about as we were seated. The food arrived quickly though, and our focus immediately shifted to how delicious everything was! Everything tasted incredibly fresh and homemade in the best ways. The portions were generous and if you know me, you'd know that value makes things taste better lol. Very warm and cozy mom-and-pop restaurant in downtown Flagstaff. The servers were kind and welcoming. The food was delicious, and portions were very generous. One thing to note is that everything on the front menu comes with hash browns, beans, and rice, so you will definitely leave feeling full no matter what you order. It is a bit on the pricey side, but that may just be typical Flagstaff pricing since things do tend to run a little higher here. Their drinks were also a bit expensive, so I stuck with water this time. My boyfriend ordered the iced white chocolate coffee, which was really tasty, though definitely on the sweeter side. I ordered their posole with two over-medium eggs on top. I've never had posole served that way before, but now I might not want it any other way, it was so flavorful and comforting! The first time I ate here was during breakfast. I remember saying that was the best breakfast I've ever had. Came back for the lunch menu and tried the birria tacos. Delicious again! This is quite the local favorite spot for Mexican cuisine. Service was a bit wonky with orders because my aunt's order was wrong but got it corrected quickly. Just sitting watching others in the restaurant, it appeared they got their orders wrong as well. Not sure where the mix up starts either from taking the order or the back of the kitchen. Fish taco plate ($17.99) Easily the best fish tacos I've ever had. Great seasoning, great texture, and the beans and smashed potatoes (no cheese) were excellent. Street carne asada tacos (3 for $17.59) Just okay -- flavorful enough but not memorable. The beans on the side were great. Red chile beef taco ($5.29) Underwhelming and lacked depth. The food had some standout moments, especially the fish tacos and the beans, but the lack of greeting when you walk in really affects the overall experience. Wow this place was amazing! After a long day traveling, site seeing, and getting in late, the next morning we wanted something hearty and delicious. We found exactly that! The place is very well decorated with artwork from a local artist. Each piece was amazing to look at. The service was amazing! The staff is very friendly, very professional, and explained the nuances of the menu in detail. Amazing food rounded out a stellar experience. This delightful place is located right on Route 66. Service was fast and friendly, and I loved the interior decor featuring the work of various artists. My husband and I shared the Chilaquiles, Christmas and Fratelli style. The portion was large and generous enough for both of us. We loved the added hash browns that gave the plate added texture and flavor. We finished with a tres leches that had a generous amount of milk to soak our cake pieces in. I visited MartAnne's based on a recommendation for breakfast and we were seated right away. Our server was nice and took our order. We ordered a Horchata latte, a vanilla latte, an Emmett, which is vegan and one BBB pancake. Let me just tell you, the food was in incredible and the coffee was just as good. The Horchata latte was gigantic and was practically two drinks in one. My partner and I ate everything and I was very pleased. Our tab was not crazy expensive so that was nice. Let me start by saying this is the most reviewed restaurant in Flagstaff this year so far! That is what swayed us from going to Foreg Flg. This is a homey place with a mom and pop vibe. I wanted to try everything! They're known for their chilaquiles. They have a motto: This is the place that chilaquiles was built. But I went against my better judgement and ordered Jerry el Mujeriego (enchilada filled with pork green chile, cheese, sour cream, cilantro, and topped with two over medium eggs. They're served with rice, beans, potatoes, and tortilla). My wife ordered Juevos Benedictos, eggs Benedict. When they brought our plates out, I couldn't believe how much food they gave us. The plates were full to the edges. Of course it came down to the flavors. My plate was just IOK. I was really expecting flavors that would pop, something that would stand out Mexican! Everything was kind of bland. I hate to say it, but it was as if they were catering to non Mexicans. I'm not Mexican, but I'm in a Mexican restaurant and I want bold Mexican flavors. Granted, they give you a lot of food. Maybe that's more important to some people. Now I wish I ordered their chilaquiles! My wife's Benedict was delicious however! Martanne's is a fairly popular Mexican breakfast and brunch place. Despite the other people waiting, my friend and I were able to get seated in under 10 minutes. I tried out their banana split French toast which includes a banana, some strawberries, 4 small pieces of French toast, whip cream, and a big scoop of Neapolitan ice cream. Everything about it was good except for the bread used; it was worse than other French toasts I've had. I tried their seasonal pumpkin pancake which actually came with cream cheese instead of butter. It was pretty good as well. For some odd reason, they charge a hidden extra fee for eating there. I'm not a fan of lies so I wish they would just put the real prices on their menus. SOOOO GOOD! I'm only knocking a star off of my review due to the waitlist situation here. No numbers or texts, just wait around for your name to be called. When we were told there was an hour wait, we weren't sure if we should wander around downtown or stay nearby incase it wasn't that long of a wait. It ended up being about 30 min wait, so good thing we stuck around! I definitely think they should implement some kind of texting system for their waitlist. I really misjudged this placed on first glance. I thought it was all hype, right on Route 66 between downtown Flagstaff & NAU. This evening, we discovered just how delicious and flavorful this spot is!! We got dinner but, my goodness, those breakfast items were calling my name! Tonight we ordered: - CARNE ASADA FRIES Curly fries, carne asada, crema, mucho cheese, guacamole, pico de gallo and chipotle ranch - HUEVOS BENEDICTOS Grilled english muffin with 2 eggs over medium, shaved ham, green chilis and a little cheese, topped with Hollandaise sauce and served with hash browns - JERRY EL MUJERIEGO (translates to Jerry the Womanizer) A big spicy pork green chile, sour cream, cilantro and cheese enchilada, topped with two eggs over medium - #49 EL REMIREZ Pork green chile burrito topped with red enchilada sauce, guacamole and cheese, served with rice and beans - TU TRIFECTA (PERFECTO TO SHARE... OR NOT) Chicken and cheese enchilada, guacamole tostada, and a cup of green chili pork posole served with rice and beans (I got mine w/out rice) My daughter asked if they had CHOLULA HOT SAUCE and they did! Our server, Gavin, brought it right to the table. He was so friendly and helpful and gave us suggestions and customer favorites. He let us know that they are known for their green chile pork. I'm a Posole lover and got the Tu Trifecta so I could get a cup of the Green Chile Pork Posole - YUMMM! I can tell I'll be craving this posole for months. The warm spice! The huge chunks of pork! I went to MartAnne's for breakfast a few years ago and I liked it so much that I created a reminder on my calendar to make sure to go back. My biggest issue here is the parking. Very limited spots, and quite tight... Once that hurdle is over, the place is kind of small but it has a nice vibe. Service has been OK. I had the chilaquiles with green chile and they were in fact very good. I had to, as there is a sign by the door that says something like "the house that chilaquiles made" or something like that. The portion was big and I had some left overs, that I forgot about, and they were still very good like 3-4 days later, LOL. Anyway, the thing I did not like during this visit (I do not remember my prior visit) is that while reviewing my check I noticed that there was a 4% surcharge, I think. And when leaving I asked the host about it and he behaved as if he had no clue what I was talking about. I went back to the cashier to ask and they said it is a credit card surcharge. I asked if there was a sign or communication about it and they said it was in the menu. I checked the menu, and there it was, at the very bottom, in the smallest near to impossible to read font size. It seemed dishonest to me, and as someone that has heavily relied on credit and credit cards during tough financial times... it felt it was like adding insult to injury... credit card rates are probably between 20-30%, so there's that... In addition, I often lose or misplace cash... and that is gone gone gone. So, credit cards have saved me in a few different ways... I was a solo diner so grabbed a seat along the window. My greeting was prompt and I ordered a drink and my food. The drink took a long time and I did see there was a line to get a seat it was busy. The server apologized and acknowledged this delay without me prompting and I appreciated that. My food arrived piping hot and very good. I had the Mexicana and it was spicy and I love spicy food just a warning for anyone who doesn't like spicy food you may want to hold the chilis. Great food and a huge portion. I took most of mine home on a paper plate wrapped in foil they provided. I wish more places used this method to avoid styrofoam and waste. Over all great place for brunch/breakfast! read more

The reviews surprise me... I went here on a Saturday around noon, and knew it would be a wait. I was totally fine with it; it took about 20min. to get a table. But hey--that's the least of my worries. The food took a bit of time to come out. I think due to how busy it was, the kitchen was likely backed up too. I got the #49 El Remirez, while my partner got the Lunch Chilaquiles. Off the bat--the Remirez was SO salty. Like, it was nearly inedible how salty it was. I literally think I ate more than my recommended daily sodium amount in that meal alone. The green chile pork, the enchilada sauce, the guacamole... EVERYTHING was salty. The rice was the only thing that wasn't, and the rice was terrible. The chilaquiles were also green chile pork, but oddly? NOT SALTY. Yet, it was still abysmal. My partner said even the beans tasted weird. As we left the restaurant, my partner actually said he was glad I got my order (I was debating the Remirez or a regular green chile burrito) cause he was able to experience how terrible the guacamole was.
