I am a fan of Chilaquiles and find that many places are a hit or miss with how they make them. What I loved about the Chilaquiles here is that they coat each chip with the sauce. I am happy I ordered the Chorizo Chilaquiles for my breakfast entrée because I really enjoyed it. We also got a Waffle and some coffee drinks. Everything was great and the service was really nice. Madrez! Café is located off of historic Route 66 east of downtown. They offer both breakfast and lunch and have indoor and outdoor seating. Seating can be limited here on busy days. On the menu you will find gorditas, skillets, birria tacos and burritos. The food is both flavorful and colorful. They also have a nice selection of espresso drinks if you are a coffee snob like me. This is definitely one of my top places to grab breakfast in Flagstaff and I will be back again someday. read more

The Homemade Fruit Waffle is wonderful - light and tender inside with just a touch of crisp to the shell. The accompanying fruit was sweet and fresh. The Greek yogurt was a nice touch, and the maple syrup topped it all off perfectly. This family-owned restaurant is small, clean. The gorditas and tortillas are homemade. My partner ordered the skillet poblano with 1 extra egg. Also, not fried eggs but scrambled eggs and they customized it. They kindly took the order on phone, so it was quick for us. The taste was good but we felt the quantity was a little less(could have been better) for $16.12 with taxes (I see $12 on the menu). As in, beans was less in quantity and had a watery gravy. The dish could have more veggies in it. There is plenty of seating available, the restaurant is clean and the there two clean restrooms. There are two tables outside in the shade as well. As a Mexican, it's super hard to find good, authentic Mexican food in Flagstaff. Lots of "locals" () will lead you astray with their recommendations however, Madrez is the spot to be!!! I've eaten here countless times and I'm never disappointed. They serve breakfast and lunch and have a variety of dishes, including vegetarian options. Their waffles are incredible as are their burritos, skillets, tostadas, and gorditas. Breakfast always comes with a side of whole beans (flavored with ham hock) which are super fresh. I can truly say there's nothing bad on this menu! The staff is always super welcoming and friendly and the ambiance is refreshing. It's a smaller space and it does get pretty busy, so be aware of that. The best part is that the cafe is family owned, with roots in Playa del Carmen, MX. It seems like you have to be and look American to be treated well at this place. The ironic part is that this is supposedly a restaurant with Mexican roots. From the moment we arrived, one of the employees -- who actually looks more Mexican himself -- greeted us with a very unpleasant attitude and a serious look on his face. The service was terrible throughout our visit, and we definitely did not feel welcome. It's a shame because we expected a different experience from a place with Mexican roots. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the sauce was flavorful but the cheese wasn't fully melted and the tortillas were a bit stale so the texture was a bit off for me.
