I made the mistake of coming back here again, but it's on my way home, and it sucks! 22 customers waiting in line with only 2 cashiers. one cashier Jouanne was taking to one of the cashiers as she was helping a customer, I called the store 2 times as I stood in line I heard the phone ringing ans nobody answered it I called back and it rang 5 times before Jouanne answered it I said you have 22 customers in line do you not have any more cashiers to help, she said not right now, we hung up and then she paged for back up cashiers and 2 more came up and then she jumped on a register, that's it work the line down and they can go back yo the floor. of I was a secret shopper you would have failed! They where about to close and they were ringing up my moms purchase and they asked her to apply for the credit card so I left the register to go help her because she didn't understand and the store manager was super rude and kept insisting and insisting for me to go pay when I told her multiple times that I was helping out my mom and she continued to be extremely rude. Sold a non functional air fryer for $80 and refuses a refund. Says we have to contact the manufacturer. It was bought less than a month ago. Our contract was not with the manufacturer it was with the store that sold it to us. Said we cant return as its been used. How do you find out something isnt working if you dont try and use it?! Horrible customer service before maybe like 5-6 months ago it was okay but just okay. Whoever they have working in the past 5-6 months are absolutely horrible. There's a 'manager' or maybe a surpervisor named Maria who is so rude. On 2 different occasions she has given a lot of attitude and entitlement. 1) this happened about a month ago we were returning a women's top and skirt set with the tag attached unworn we just decided not to wear it for the event we bought it for. The cashier took the set wrote on tag in front of us that it was not returnable (despite it being unworn and having the receipt) turned around and told us look at what the tag says ?? Like yes we saw you write on it just now we asked to speak to a manager and up came Maria acting like she was doing us a favor like the employee didn't just write on the tag in front of us 2) we were buying a king size plush blanket with some other stuff for our son. The cashier rung up the items wrong he was going to over charge us by $17 so I asked him to double check everything since the total sounded off. He fixed his mistake which was fine but you could tell he was very uncomfortable or stressed out about being on cashier that's okay the review isn't for him. Maria is supposed to help him price check the blanket , we were shopping before hand and all the blankets we were looking at were between 20-25 for a king but I guess the color we picked didn't have a tag. Maria goes to the blanket section takes a picture of a random blanket might have been a duvet with the price she gave us has the cashier scan the upc code and it rings up for over $30, okay, we ask to see which blanket she gave him the upc code just because it doesn't sound right and she walks away ignoring what we asked. Like okay are we supposed to trust you if you aren't even showing us and if we needed to return it she probably would have met us with the same attitude. We have come here to pick up a few household items, clothing, decor, and kitchen stuff. The brands are pretty good and the selection is decent. The staff are also hospitable and helpful but we did try to return a small kitchen appliance that we bought here after finding out it was defective and the associate said they couldn't accept it even though it was purchased just the day before. It was surprising because their competitors like Ross or TJ Max accept returns regardless, we still had the receipt and tags attached but because we turned it on and tried to use it just to find out it was broken, it was no longer allowed to be returned. Overall the store is pretty clean and the racks are well organized I just wish they re-evaluated this policy because if they sell something that's broken but don't accept the return it's pretty inconsiderate. read more

Good selection of items and neatly organized. Can be pricey but still cheaper and not as crowded as TJ maxx. Lots of free parking. Ok those are the positive points about this shop that earned it 2 stars. Changing room attendants are rude and see themselves as security guards enforcing their policies at the door. I usually go in with tons of clothes to try on and it's frustrating that you can only take a few in at a time. Then you have to get dressed, bring the items out and take the rest in to try on again. And repeat. Very painful process. So I started buying and returning what didn't fit within the 30 day mark. This worked until I realized that they have some system issue with their inventory and they will confidently tell you that an item is not on your receipt because they scan it and it doesn't show up. So make sure you manually check the barcode of the item on your receipt. The first time this happened they took the item away from me without refunding me saying it must have been an error that it was never scanned in the first place and that I can't have it back!! The second time it happened, I checked the item on the receipt and could see it was there even though the staff rudely retorted "I already scanned it, it's not". The staff called their manager and then gave me store credit for the item. No apology for their error and also for their system issue that didn't allow me to have a refund but store credit instead. Used to be my go-to location but something happened here during pandemic (management change!?) and things just went downhill. 1. There's always huge line at the checkout. Somehow checkout is slower now than at South Coast Plaza location, despite that this location on Alton is much less crowded. 2. They don't give a damn about store hours and closing the doors 30-60 minutes earlier than posted. I used to think that it's just a mess because of the pandemic, but it looks like it's their new way of doing business. 3. Attendants are rude. It's especially noticeable at the end of the day, when it feels like the personnel just want to kick everybody out and close the store. I'm wondering how to report it to T.J. Maxx parent company. This is the first store I've been racially profiled at. Malahat was the associate I had the pleasure of working with today . She did not greet me, I greeted her. She overly examined my returns, which had all the tags attached and matching sku numbers. Called her manager over to check one of my returns because the clearance price was apparently too low. Manager looks at her and says it's fine lol. Then she had to make sure the numbers on my card matched the receipt when the receipt said CONTACTLESS. Had to explain that means I paid with my phone. Malahat, if you hate your job, you should have made better choices in life. Maybe things would turn out better for you if you treated people equally. God can't bless who you pretend to be. read more

Have you been to the Nordstrom Rack location by South Coast Plaza? If you have, you know that store has an overwhelming amount of stuff and it's just an absolute mess. This Marshall's is exactly like that - but the store is half the size of Nordstrom. Always messy. Always crowded. Checkout line is always backed up to the Pets section with only 3 checkout lanes open. Another comparison: Nail salon. If you have been to a nail salon and you feel uncomfortable because the Nail techs usually talk among themselves. That's how this location is as well - especially when you're checking out. Came in for a return. Stood in line for 20 minutes. I actually found a pet bed but decided against it during checkout. I told the sales associate I didn't want the item anymore and just wanted to do my return- 2 kids toys. She looked at me stupidly. I had to picked up the receipt from the counter and hand it to her. "You want to return these 2 items?" She asked .... yes, that's what I just said. Started to process the return. "You pay with gift card. I'll need to put it back on the gift card." "Yes, I have the gift card." - as I'm showing it to her. I get ignored as she rummages through the drawer to look for a gift card while chitchatting with the associate next to her. When the credit card machine started flashing blue I went ahead and swiped it. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" she yells. "I have my gift card." - as I showed it to her again. She rolled her eyes, gave me my receipt and started putting away the toys in the return bin while talking to the associate again. I walked away - and as I was 2 registers away she starts yelling "HEY. HEYYYY! HEYYYY MISS! YOU NEED TO PAY FOR THE BED!" Mind you... I had left it with the sales associate and everyone was looking at me. "I told you I didn't want the bed anymore. You don't listen to me. you need to learn to fxxking listen!" Yes. I yelled that at her. I had been patient enough but her yelling and chasing after me - like I had stolen the pet bed - even though it wasn't in my cart - had pushed me over the edge. Seriously. If you can't hear people talk through the mask, don't work the checkout lane. Don't work customer service. It's people like her that make the checkout lane long. read more

Well today I felt like I was not treated well and left this store crying, feeling I was not enough, not looking okay enough or not trustworthy looking. Here is what happened: This weekend I gifted myself a pair of sneakers as I found one on clearance that matched my kids'! I did not have the time to try them on at the South Coast Plaza @marshalls store, but it was the last pair, so I gave it a chance. As soon as I got home and tried them one, I realized it would not work, the shoes were way too small. I couldn't fit all my toes in them . I had to return them. Today, I went to this Marshalls store, in Irvine on Alton parkway, hoping I would find the same pair but at my size this time. My intention was to make an exchange hopefully. They had other pairs on display but not in my size unfortunately. With Covid, we do not go anywhere & I know I will not go on further hunting trips trying to find the right size in multiple Orange County locations, so I decide to return the shoes I purchased this past weekend. I was with my baby in his stroller. Only 3 registers were opened and the line was... VERY long. 30 ish minutes later it's finally my turn. The woman at the register looks at me like I am not worth any welcoming sign of any kind, and says "these were worn you cannot return them". Needless to say they were not worn and I had the receipt. Since I have not worn the shoes, still quite confident I have insisted. She goes to her manager, who without seeing the shoes or talking to me confirms the pair cannot be returned.... I insist again, he finally came to the register (by now they wanted me out of their store).... After 3-4 minutes of useless back & forth I end up saying I want to complain and need them to provide me with a number to customer service ... the number they gave me was for online purchases or store credit cards.... I left like I was a liar, had worn these shoes and had tried to return a second hand item. I am a very good homegoods/tj Maxx / Marshalls client. This has to be one of the worst Marshalls I've ever been to. The merchandise is fine, no complaints there. My low rating is for their horrible customer service. I frequent here a lot because I work nearby so this isn't the first time I've witnessed their bad service. They've got lots of old, cranky ladies working here. The women working the cash registers don't smile or greet you, and they speak to their customers in a very rude and unfriendly manner. My encounter today with a grouchy cashier with short reddish brown hair(cashier #1) and the manager was the final straw. First off, this cashier calls me to her cashier before the first customer she was helping checkout even left. I walk up to the cashier because she calls out for the next customer. Upon arriving, the other customer is trying to hurry to put her bags into the cart and still needs to put her wallet away. I walk up to the lady manning the cashier and say Hi because she doesn't greet me. I let her know that I have a return for an item I purchased yesterday ay another Marshalls. My items was still brand new wrapped in box. I had mistakenly purchased a toner yesterday, thinking it was a hydrating spray. As soon as the cashier sees my item, she say, "No, I can't accept that. We don't accept any Beauty return." Weirdly enough, I've returned beauty products at Marshalls before and this has never been an issue. There's no store policy in there store or online that states that beauty products are non refundable. I'd understand if I bought this item a long time ago or if the items had been used but this is not the case. Plus other Marshalls allow beauty returns so I'm not sure what their issue is here. It's not so much that they didn't accept my return but how they went about it. When I asked my cashier why I couldn't return it when other Marshalls allow it, she says we don't accept beauty returns and she holds up my items and condescendingly shakes it saying "this is a beauty item, I don't know what else you think it is. Let me call my manager." The manager is not much better. Never should you speak condescendingly to a customer or roll your eyes. The clothes are really cute but the staff is really bad. I tried grabbing something from a rack while somebody was organizing it and they told me to move. Then when I went to try on the clothes it was horrible because the ladies were super rude. They made us put all the clothes on the rack to count it even after we had told them how many items we had. Then when my mom wanted to go get a different size it was like they were mad at you! In the end we forgot 2 hangers and they got mad at us! Probably one of the worst stores I've been to in a while. Just came in for one item, I ended up finding a super cute jumper for 9.99 so had to get it. The woman at the register ended up spending a few minutes talking to her co worker thinking that I somehow must have mixed the tags because it can't be that cheap...it's Marshall's. Also if it was a mistake that an employee made shouldn't it be honored? It even had a missing clasp on it but I was ready to ignore that for the price. The one thing I did find really weird is that I noticed a lot of the representatives did not speak English. it was totally OK. We were in town visiting so we stopped in here. The store was kept, and I liked the girls And boys selection of clothes and at a great price. Wasn't a huge fan of the clutter of their home good items and the staff was average at best. The gentlemen ringing us up was very friendly but no other staff asked if we were finding everything okay and even gave a few passive looks if anything. So product wise it was good. This Marshall's has the worst staff of any Marshall's I have been to. Terrible customer service, the staff are so lazy and in such a hurry to get home that they have no respect for the store hours and are always closing at least 30 minutes earlier than the stated store hours. Lines are always really long and the staff there like to take their time. Do yourselves a favor, and drive to another Marshall's, like the one in south coast plaza. As a frequent Marshalls browser and shopper, I find that there are always unique finds, especially when nearing the holiday seasons. Not sure why the overall rating is so low. I've been to this location several times, and each time, I've had good customer service. Sure, the wait for checkout can be pretty long, the bathrooms are not so clean (I mean, they're public restrooms, aka. no passcode to go in), and sometimes the organization can be improved (like any other random collection stores, i.e. Ross, TJ Max). The dressing rooms are well lit and maintained well. If you search carefully, you'll find some good quality clothes for an affordable price. read more

I purchased a pan earlier at another Marshalls for $299.99. I needed to return it and this location was closer than the original location. I took the pan and my RECEIPT into the store. The clerk said it was too expensive to return here. In Irvine, CA. Orange County, one of the most expensive places in the World to live. But it was too expensive to return. No where does it say I can't return an item that costs 299 with my receipt. So the clerk calls Matt over, supposably a manager and he apologized and said it's too expensive for here. I asked him, you do not have anything for 299? He said just one piece of furniture. So I asked him if I go look and find another pan for 299 you'll then take it back right? He said yes. I walk to pan section where they have many items for 299 including a single pan! OMG! Why would he lie to me? I grab the pan walk directly to him and handed it to him and then went back to the cashier . I said I found one and he said he would do it so let's get started. Matt comes over and says to do the return. What do you know, my receipt will not scan into their system even though I just purchased it today. The other manager Rosalina comes over and asked if he tried to do it manually, he said no, and she says sorry take it back to where you got it. I said why don't you try it manually to enter the receipt your company gave me for this purchase. And she types in a few numbers and guess what, invalid receipt. Came in for cologne and the layout seems very cluttered. Employees were not very friendly and no one acknowledged me while I was looking for the cologne section (was hard to find). Service was very slow, and a shoplifter was caught while I was conducting my purchase and the cashiers were not very discreet about it. read more
