Here's another review for the gun range. Prices: awesome. Ease of use, awesome as well. Prepare to be hot of course, since it's outdoors. Unless you go in the winter. Be prepared to set up your targets at light speed when the range goes cold because they switch off really quickly. And if you're not prepared when the range goes back to hot, then you have to sit that one out, Big Tuna. Yeah, I know it's annoying and strict, but I guess it has to be that way because of possible liability and incompetent people trying to do their own thing instead of listening to the range masters. Occasionally you'll find a range master on a power trip or a bit mean, but it comes with the gun range territory. The only reason I've given it a 3 and nothing higher is that I've had a taste of the alternative- a more pleasant quiet range with longer cold periods so you don't have to rush. If I tell you this secret range I would have to kill you so I won't. Also, I have no idea how to get there, so it would be a moot point LOL. BUt I guess all these things are in place because of safety and logistics, and it is a safe and clean and well-kept range, so it's pretty good if you want to shoot your rifles. For indoor ranges and handgun shooting, I prefer Big Al, but that's another entry. read more

Excellent place for recreation. I go here for the gun range and sometimes go to the observatory for astronomy.

Love this park. My wife and I come here minimum twice a week and try to come more. We go for walks and there is so much to do here. Bike riding, tennis, walking, remote control airplane/helicopter fields, shooting range and much more. The pup loves 'barkham at markham' which is the dogpark here. We love the nature trail, it's very peaceful and beautiful to go for a nice walk. 5 stars since it's always clean and there's not much bad to say at all. read more

My husband and I go here all the time. We love to run, bike and skate around this huge park! I through a surprise birthday party here as well and had plenty of space for all of our family and friends. I booked a shelter space online and was given a detailed list of rules to follow and a list of companies which cater to the park (food,bounce houses, etc). Plenty of grills around the park even if renting a shelter isn't in the budget. Great park and very well maintained. read more

Easily the best park in town! There is something to do here for everyone! The park is pretty big so it's a great area to ride your bike around and I believe there are bike trails there as well. Camping spots, a dog park, a gun range, playgrounds, picnic areas, a community pool and trails are just a few of the things on the list of things to do here! read more

This is a very large park for the area. There's a dog-walking park within, there are nature trails, there's an area where you can fly your fancy remote control airplanes with the landing strip, and there's even a place 4 the local sheriff's deputies to practice their marksmanship. Of course, they also have the usual large pavilions which you can rent to host outdoor parties and barbecue events. there is plenty of space for having a small game of catch, frisbee, football, or whatever kind of outdoor games you want to play a park. There does seem to be an issue and some areas of where to park.people Park along the road and on the edge of the grass, but there are not clearly designated parking areas and some of the places where you would want to stop and park your car. And other parts of the park, there is plenty of traditional parking.I'm pretty sure that there is more stuff that goes out of this park that I have not even listed here. I'm not sure if they allow overnight camping. someone wants told me that they spent some time living in this park in their vehicle although I don't know if such activities are sanctioned.I do remember driving by a building that was designated for some other activity which I have not listed here so I would recommend looking up the parks website and reviewing all of the available services and you will see that there is quite a lot that goes on and can be done in this large sprawling Park. Wait, I just remembered one more thing. I believe they have a place where you can lower your boat or jet-ski and other small watercraft into the canal / river that runs along the side of the park. Well is water's to run continuously from lake Okeechobee to the ocean, your boat will not have full access to run that length. It, it still looks like a nice little peaceful place to go around in your boat for jet ski. read more

This is a large park! It's got lots of areas for different types of activities. We went this morning to check out Barkham Park - for our golden retriever. It's great because there are 2 fenced areas for the dogs - one for small dogs and one for large dogs. Both parks have a shaded seating area for owners to watch their dogs from afar. And both parks have "playgrounds" for the dogs. They also have water fountains - both for humans and for the furry friends. There is a lot of space for the dogs to expend their energy. We will definitely try to make this a weekly event for our Nala. read more

I have to agree with Jordan. This place is amazing. I wish I lived closer. We used to have BBQ's there all the time and ride the mountain bike trails on the weekends. Gotta get back to that. Man, some of those trails were pretty advanced and extreme, so proceed with cution if you are not the avid mountain biker and stay on the Novice paths. Expert paths are tough for a rookie. This is a beautiful park with a very bad FIRE ANT PROBLEM! Every time I've been there someone has gotten into ants and left crying. Today I went with my three children by the air field and my three year old daughter and I both got over run by them more than 100 bites. Was not a fun experience. This park is so big and has so many things to do, you can really spent the whole day exploring and doing all sorts of activities. You can pretty much find me every weekend riding my waverunner on the canal that goes all the way to the bank atlantic center, taking my dogs to Barkham Park, checking out people with their remote controlled mini speed boats or the remote controlled planes and helicopters. My boyfriend is from Tallahassee & took me to his favorite park up there once - Tom Brown. I was introduced to Disc Golf & these grassy fields & winding roads & was left thinking: I wish we had a place like this down south. Voila! I was searching for outdoor gun ranges & came across Markham. Then I saw 'Disc Golf Course' & 'boat (canoe/paddle) rentals'... We drove there the next day. The boat section is closed :(, but the Disc Golf was a blast, the mini airfield is great entertainment while having lunch on the tailgate, & the gun range (getting work done, it seems) looks like it'll be a lot of fun, too. We've been out a few times now & just love it. Bringing some friends around soon... :) read more

This review is for the Target Range. This was the first time I went to an outdoor target range. It was great, I must say and it didn't hurt that the weather was amazingly beautiful. We got there at 10:30 and waited just over an hour for a spot. By the time we were called up the waiting area was packed. We were told to come as early as possible the next time, and that we will. Great range with helpful gun rangers there to assist you. It is a very structured environment, I almost felt like I was in camp, but that is good, better to be organized than not at a gun range. Super friendly, great facility can't wait to go back. read more

Just a really great park. Son goes to camp here during the summer as well and has a great time with the amenities. Although its especially great for MLBs, Road Biking is somewhat limited as they often times close the passage area by the shooting range in order to make a full loop. Still, good park. read more

I camped here. I was given a campsite near the L-35 canal, when I arrived my campsite had quite a few bull ant holes, but we killed them with dish soap. That's about the only complaint I have for the camp site or anything around the park. Now on to fishing, We fished in the lake with lures for about an hour and didn't get a bite but we went over to that canal and in about 20 minutes my buddy hooked up to nice bass that had to be at least 5 pounds but lost it. He also caught a small peacock bass. I kept seeing the same 2 peacock bass just swimming by so I casted the lure and the big one hammered it but I ended up losing it. If you are looking for a place with no alligators at all at Markham park, you probably won't have any luck so just be careful. read more

I love markham park! I love spending my lunch hour there away from the hustle and bustle. Park staff not friendly AT ALL...but I dont go to be social, I go to relax unwind and connect with nature. It is a really HUGE park, lots to do and very well maintained. read more

Awesome Job volunteers! They do amazing work at this park. New trails (Nov 2014) this year...great workout no matter what level. I'd be careful bringing small children...it can be dangerous on these trails. beginners should try Amelia Earhart first...safer to learn there. read more

I've only been to the park for the gun range so my review is regarding the range. Nice range. The staff has been very helpful and friendly every time I've gone. Peter has been exceptionally helpful at the rifle/pistol range. The staff gave me tips and suggestions on how to improve on my shooting which was very useful. I rather drive an hour to go to this range than go to any of the ranges near me. read more

I am at the park twice a week. I do use the mountain bike trail, love them. I takemy dogs to the Barkham, they love it. I also use the rifle range. This I don't like so much. It's convenient, close, and cheap. BUT, the range officer with missing teeth has the worst attitude of anyone i have ever come across at a gun range. I think more evaluation of those seeking employment there needs to be given.This is for Snaggletooth, you suck. This guy is nothing but a blackeye for Markham Park. If it wasn't for him, I would gladly have given 5 stars. read more

The requirements and fees for the use of other parks inside should be known by guests BEFORE they spend money to come inside. The dog park is inaccessible unless you go to the office next to the dog park to get a "pass" which is basically the equivalent of enrolling your child in school with the shot records, tags with certain dates (because even if the vaccinations are valid, the tags have to say the current year, one of our dogs was vaccinated in the fall, her tags say 2016 so she wasn't going to be allowed in since it's 2017 now, what a joke), plus extra fees.... We would have appreciated being told the fact that the dog park isn't really one you can use just because you came to Markham, it's a seperate entity with a literally 6 foot list if guidelines outside the locked gate. I don't appreciate being charged for entry into a park only to be turned away by another park inside and not refunded my money. I can't help but wonder how many more people have paid to get access to what they think will be an hour or so at the dog park, only to turn around two minutes later when they realized they have to go home to collect paperwork and proof of things if they want to return. Lol how many times did the guy at the gate take money from people with a barking dog in the car, watch them make a left at the dog park sign, and see them leave again five minutes later, dog still barking in the car.... I'm not happy at all. No wonder on a Saturday afternoon there were only two dogs in the entire enclosure. I will never return to this park. read more

Went today to the gun range with 4 Of my friends and their family members. All of us not only have a CWL but are also emergency physicians. Once we got into the grounds, we were surrounded by 3 employees, Rich, Bob and Tony. They spoke to us in a berating and intimidating manner and when they found one of my guns with a clip in it, they decided to belittle me by telling me that I wound not be allowed to shoot at the range today and asked me to stand behind everyone and watch. I couldn't believe that I was put into time out by a group of employees on some sort of a power trip. I have run Emergency Departments in south Florida and have never seen such disrespectful behavior to a customer. There were 8 of us in total that will never revisit this range again. I was told after about the awful reputation they have. Wish I knew that before I entered the range to be berated. read more

Love this park! I walk my dog a few miles around it in the morning and later in the evening. I always feel safe and love seeing all the smiling faces & receiving beautiful greetings from other happy park goers. Really makes your day when you get a "Good Morning! Enjoy your day!" From strangers. The park has so many places to pull over and enjoy the afternoon. I have also spent many weekends jet skiing my mornings away at the jet ski lake. Markham Park is a potentially excellent park...in the process of going bad. There is plenty of open space, camping, picnicking, model aircraft field, a shooting park, mountain bike trails, dog park and conservation area. Here are some of the problems: First and foremost the park is often closed for special events...or just closed. Often these events are for worthy charities however; the frequency of these events can catch you off guard frequently leaving the people the park was developed to serve...left out. Example: The park was closed the day after Thanksgiving. The day that many people would be in the mall; true but many would also prefer to be outdoors at the park. The park was still open for about twenty campers necessitating the park be staffed and operational...but closed to all others. I witnessed car after car after car (and the potential revenues) turned away by employees who could have just as easily supplemented tax dollars for their wages and the myriad of employees riding ATV's and Ford Ranger pickups to seemingly no-where to do nothing. The campers cruised the all but empty park in trucks towing jet skis, skateboards, roller blades, ATV's etc. Half a dozen cyclists thought they might park nearby and ride the park. Those tax payers were quickly forced to leave taking their chances on the street. Does this make sense? Certainly it doesn't make business sense but I think we're talking politics here...and not business. Maybe the campers were part of a "special group". I always thought tax payers were special. While we're on the subject here are a couple of other potential problems: The dirt wall behind the targets at the range is too low. There is a trail on top of the levee behind the range. It's just a matter of time before one idiot fires his weapon a little too high and takes out a tourist on the levee. The dog park is quickly turning into a "bully-dog only" park. If your dog isn't a killer....he'll be food for the big dogs. There is a radar screen display that will let you know that the slowest vehicles in the park (including the employees) all drive at minimum; double the posted speed limit. I found it informative. Living in south Florida I'm certain we've all come to expect rude and unprofessional behavior from employees. The park is no different. The park has huge potential. I hope I'm wrong about my concerns...although many of them have already become reality. read more

This was a super find for camping near Fort Lauderdale. It is a huge, safe, clean park to camp! It was a nice suprise to find a county park that was well maintained, free wifi, and decent showers. I would stay here again by all means. The draw backs are little, but should be known there is no laundry facility, and a few of the campsites are too far for wifi and its a good haul to the bathroom so check the map before you commit to a campsite. read more

Tent camping at Markham Park was almost unbearable. We stayed on Labor Day weekend. They have a serious mosquito problem, there is trash everywhere, and the grass was super long in our campsite. The only good thing is the free WiFi, which helps to take your mind off of the fact that you can't be outside because of the terrible bug problem. We will avoid this place at all costs in the future. read more

I have been to the Markham Park Target Range approximately 25 times in the last 2.5 years. I go there because they are the only outdoor range in the tri-county area. On Sunday, July 25th I went there with my son to shoot at the rifle/pistol range. I helped set him up and spotted him for the first hour as he zeroed a rifle. They had a lightning stoppage after one hour. It was now 3:00 PM and they close at 5:00 so I went to the front desk and asked about getting a rain check. Now mind you I had only taken 2 shot using his rifle so I could make sure he was zeroing his rifle correctly. I hadn't really even taken one shot with my rifle. The manager begrudgingly offered to give me one rain check. When I went back out to the range, Pete, one of the range officers apparently went in to the managers office and told him that I had been shooting. There was more debate and smack talking between myself and Pete and after all was said and done I still got to get my rain check. But just one. It dawned on me that Pete was acting very petty. I suggest that if you go then go on a day when there is not a cloud on the sky. Why? Because they will take your money but shut down at the drop of a hat and if you've shot even 10 rounds they'll try to keep your money. Bad business. I'm going to return to do my last range trip (with my rain check) and I won't be back. It's not worth the aggravation. read more

The park is nice but the target range is the worst that I have ever experienced. I have been shooting off and on at the rifle/pistol range for over 10 years and unless you can go there during a week day it you will need to wait hours for a lane on the weekend IF you get one at all. No matter if you go in the morning or afternoon on a weekend day there is always a long wait, often 3 or 4 hours. This is not due to overcrowding but under-staffing. The website boasts 66 lanes but never have I seen more than 25 max lanes open while dozens wait for their turn?!?! Many of the ROs are also rude and act like police, I believe that this is from the lack of support from the parks system. I have been hearing for years that the park manager is anti-gun and originally wanted to shut down the range but certain park provisions prevented him from doing so and he has made using the range as difficult as possible? This is a PUBLIC park for ALL residents and should not be used as political fodder. With so few outdoor ranges in South Florida and the Broward Park system funded by tax dollars coupled with the rates for range use more than doubling over the past few years why does it seem so shooter unfriendly? read more

I have been to Markham Park rifle range several times over the past several years to sight in my rifles. The range officers that I have encountered are generally knowledgeable, but also surly. I guess they never heard of customer service. Their job is to maintain range safety and help the novice, not be condescending. Since I am well versed with firearms and safety considerations, that has not been a personal problem, but I have observed several range personnel over the years being less than cordial. Since Markham Park rifle range is about the only game in town, maybe they think this is acceptable behavior. I can not comment on the section Florida Statute 790.33 that supposedly being violated because I only bring three firearms at one time. Any member thoughts on above are welcome. read more

This park is full of activity, which is great during the day, but their security in the campground at night is poor. The officers apparently have no authority so when someone violates the quiet hours, nothing can be done. In addition, no phone number is posted for security, so you're pretty much on your own if a problem arises. It is now 2:30 am and a party is blaring in this circle. The visitors ignored the security officers warning about the noise and we will have to wait until the liquor they've consumed puts them to sleep, hopefully with the radio off. We will be moving tomorrow--a disappointment because we needed a long-term place to stay. read more
