Nice peaceful walk. There is a bit of trash that maybe blows in from the highway and gets tangled in the marshes. You can see them from the boardwalk but can't fish it out. The noise from the freeway is a big loud around that side of the park. There's two lookout points and a half mile path around the swamp, some open field area for playing and restrooms. There's a little bit of shade on one side of the park but the rest of the path is pretty exposed. There's creepy abandoned trailers in the fenced lot next door. The alligator bike rack is cute and the bike tools are nice

Sawgrass Sanctuary Park is a 20 acre park built to protect the ecosystem of the Everglades. At a cost of 2 million dollars it was completed in 2001. Wetlands were created and the park was created with educational experiences in mind that could be enjoyed by the public as well as the elementary school located next door. Some of the teaching features of the park are the animal footprint teaching pads and the interpretive displays identifying the park's four dominant native ecosystem. The most prominent feature of the park is the boardwalk and observation platform overlooking the wetlands. On the boardwalk is a portal allowing you to look down into the wetlands below. Underneath me I saw fish and turtles swimming. I also could swear I heard an alligator grunting but I didn't see him. Other park amenities include a fishing pier and fishing bank, a .64 mile walking/jogging/ biking path around the perimeter of the wetlands, two picnic pavilions, a concert platform, and restrooms. The park is the site of the city's Earth Day festival and Woofstock, an annual celebration bringing together dog lovers and their canine companions. I loved my visit to this peaceful sanctuary on the edge of the Everglades. It is close and to the city and perfect for families to bring their children to introduce their children to nature. I saw a lot of people taking advantage of the exercise loop. It is a wonderful park for exercise, fishing, and just getting out into a more natural Florida.

    A black panther on a tree! J/K, it's a kitty.

OMG! Can't believe this place. It's way more than just a large park as it's a destination worth a…read moredrive. It's in Broward County just off University Drive and it's free. So glad some friends told us about this place awhile back when we were talking about places to take the grandkids in the future. But even if you're just a kid at heart, You may want to visit here. Wear your bathing suit. It's easy to find. And there's ample free parking out front. Mid week when we stopped by it wasn't very busy. But if I had kids, I'd be here every weekend -- especially in our recent hot weather. First and foremost is the interactive water/splash pad. So many machines spraying water, buckets dumping, etc etc. The three kids there were squealing with joy and excitement. Such fun. There's also a story walk/trail for children with various stops plus a regular walking trail. A covered playground with equipment for kids. A Volleyball sand court; basketball court; grills; picnic areas... all with a large swath of green grass in the middle -- perfect for events/concerts. On the south end is the canal C-14 with a fishing pier. More "waters edge" as in the name. And also for adults, there's a covered area right near the water with all sorts of gym/exercise equipment. Don't know what more you could want except maybe a few more resting benches along the main trail for the older folks... Go check it out. Bring the kids.

Featured at the entrance are children's water fountains and refreshing jets of water! Fitness equipment, a short fishing pier, picnic grills and other amenities abound in this beautiful and well maintained park.
