This review is not about the salon itself, but specifically about my stylist, Steven Rene. I had an appointment yesterday and was very disappointed with both the result and the overall experience. Steven spoke maybe three sentences throughout the entire appointment, which made the experience uncomfortable and didn't seem like he wanted to be there. The final color was completely off. The front of my bangs is PURPLE with an ashy base, while the back of my hair is warm with blonde highlights. After he was done, he knew he had messed up and his response was simply, "It'll be less warm in the back the more you shampoo." Why is the back of my head a completely different color than the front? Honestly, this was the worst color job I've ever had, and I would not recommend booking with him. read more

I booked a hair cut for my kid with a senior stylist, I was very disappointed with it. The job was lazy and sloppy. The hair stylist trimmed my kids hair on the side & the back , and told me that he was done while my kid's hair was still wet. My kid has long hair. My personal hair cut experience tells me, it was a lazy and sloppy work because the stylist should have dried the long hair and make final check on the hair cut. I know I could have asked the stylist to do his job right. But I didn't bother to stay longer, I am not returning to the hair salon and I do not recommend it. read more

Luckily, I worked from home and just threw it into a ponytail most days. Went to Jerry yesterday and his skills reminded me why I should never settle for a subpar cut that was convenient. I was charged $50.00 for a blow dry with Vicky, which seems excessive. I frequent upscale salons in Hawaii, and have never been charged this much. In addition, she neglected the front of my highlights around my forehead which any good stylist knows is an important area. I've gone to Jerry Wang a couple of times now and have always had a great experience. He is incredibly kind, compassionate and humble. He's also very experienced with almost 30 years under his belt. I first came in for a consultation and he was so warm toward me. He was easy to talk to and gave concise advice on how I should approach my hair. We did highlights and a trim, and he and his assistant, Jamie complimented my hair's health and thickness. While this seem like a general comment, I've been to other hair stylists who make it seem like my hair is VERY damaged and that I need to chop off half of the length to get it healthy... it makes a difference to the customer experience to build them up rather than insulting them. The time it took was a lot quicker than other places too, and yet I noticed how detailed he was with the highlights and trimming. I've seen some stylists (and I've gone to many) go crazy with the scissors and at the end, it would not at all be what I wanted. Not only that, but other stylists would be cocky and talk a lot about how they knew what they were doing and that gets draining. Those same stylists charge an arm and a leg and I can't wrap my head around how obviously rude they are to customers... With Jerry, he's very gentle, calm and personable. He even taught me some Mandarin! These two times with Jerry have been a refreshing change. I highly recommend Jerry! read more

He genuinely cares about you as a client and gives you his full attention. I had a bad experience recently at another salon in the area where I was double booked and I felt like I was not a priority, so his personalized care and consultation was a breath of fresh air. He helped me select color, was genuinely interested in making sure I walked away feeling and looking fabulous. I have a lot of hair and each strand is thick like real thread like thickness! I put my hair in a bun and it would look like I have a supersize donut on my head! But I feel lighter now and amazing with my new hair! I can put my hair in a bun or tie it in a ponytail using a regular hair tie, no more thick heavy duty hair ties to hold it up! I recently got my haircut by a new stylist to this salon, Richard Rivera. He listened carefully to what I wanted and was able to chat with me (and crack me up!) while also diligently doing exactly what I wanted. I wanted a shorter cut but was kind of nervous and he put me at ease and kept checking with me as he cut. It made me feel so much better to know he wasn't just chopping all my hair off! When he styled it my hair looked amazing! I love that he talked me through what he was doing (bc I had millions of questions as I wanted to be able to do it at home) and showed me how I could make it easier to do myself. Let me just start by saying I am incredibly particular with hair. Especially with handling my thick black Asian hair. I have been to many hairstylists paying top dollar for great recommendations but I've never encountered anyone as knowledgeable and as good as Jerry Wang. First of all, he has 20 years of styling, cutting, and chemical experience. Second, he is so meticulous and is able to educate you as to why something in the past didn't work out the way you wanted (as was my case). He not only works meticulously but he also doesn't waste anytime. He knew exactly what levels of bleach to use on different blocks of my already dyed hair. He also made sure to give me an eye guard during the toning process so my eyes wouldn't feel like they were burning too. He not only color corrected for me but he gave me a cool looking ash blonde greyish balayage and was able to tone it so it didn't look too stark in contrast. I noticed that other hairstylists would just leave your hair to set once they apply bleach but Jerry worked fast to get me out in time and put heat on my hair to get it to set after he applied the bleach. He would check on the foils carefully to make sure it reached just the right color and just the right strength to reach optimum quality. Not only that, he knew exactly what bleach levels to use in order to get my hair to properly bleach but also maintain its strength. My hair is usually pretty flimsy and broken and weak after a bleach job but he worked hard to maintain the quality of my hair! I was so impressed!!! I had to leave really quickly so he didn't get to style my hair with curls but he still had me leave with such a nice straight blow out! Loved my experience there and will never trust my hair with anyone else but Jerry. I found my forever stylist! read more
