I let my hair grow out past my lower back because I was experiencing postpartum hair loss. I thought the longer the hair, I'd feel like the hair loss wouldn't feel so bad. But it got to a point where I needed to cut my hair because it became unmanageable with a 4 month old baby. I found Hotheads on Yelp since I am local to Pasadena. I called the salon, and the owner answered. She was super friendly and asked what I was looking for. I asked for a "trim" but made it clear I have postpartum hair loss so I'd like a consultation too since I don't know what do to with it. Quickly, I got contacted by Stephanie. She was quick to get me scheduled in that same week. Thank goodness! I was going back to work soon so I wanted to cut my hair before then. Fast forward to my appointment. I parked on the street in front of the store. I was greeted by Stephanie right away. She let me change into a salon gown and we started chatting about what I'd like all while washing my hair. I told her I want a trim and some layers. However I'm losing my hair so I wanted to see what she recommended to make it still look full and healthy. Stephanie suggested cutting the thin ends of my hair and doing layers in the front. I'd say the wash, cut and hair dry took about an hour. Which felt quick since we had really good chat about motherhood. Since I'm so low maintenance with my hair, I let her take the lead, did everything she recommended and I'm SO happy that I did! It's literally the best hair cut I've ever gotten. We took off about 7 inches from the bottom and my hair still looks long. The layers shape my face and I feel brand new! I explained that I was inquiring about a haircut and had seen on their website that they had gender based pricing (this is against the law), I asked if this was old information. I was told not only was it current but the woman was very rude after I clarified that what they are doing is discriminatory. Why should I pay more for the same haircut (same length) just because I'm a woman? She very rudely said "If you don't like it go somewhere else". I think we should ALL go somewhere else!! I got a response the next day saying "leave me your cell # and one of our gals will text you to set up an appointment based on their availability" Never got a call or text from any of them. So a few days later I went down the street to their competitor and while I paid more money for my cut, but at least they made making an appointment easy. This 1 star review doesn't reflect how good/bad of a cut you'll get here, because they didn't even see me. I waited in the car for my boyfriend as he visited another business in this complex. As I was waiting, a female came out and asked if I was waiting for someone in the salon. I think I had Jasmine's toughest challenge yet. Due to my mother's dementia, she had an extended stay at the hospital which caused a matted hair situation in the back of my mother's head. I was convinced the only way to remove it was to have her hair sheered off but Jasmine was able to shampoo and brush it out! My Mom's final hairstyle looked exactly like her pre-diagnosis hair and even better! Last year I wanted to go lighter with a balayage and I tried two hair stylist before Jazmine. To summarize it, it was bad. Jazmine totally change the game on my Jair, I was better that what I was expecting. She is straight forward from the beginning sharing all the possibilities, consequences, etc. Then I decided what I want to do with my hair. She explained everything she is doing while doing it making you feel comfortable and the salon is beautiful. Today after 8 months I am back since I want to do it all over again. So I'm writing this review super late, but better late than never! I never liked my old hairdresser. I never really cared much before since I would only get a usual trim. For years, I've had my hair long and straight so I didn't really need much. Last October, we found out that our 15 year old niece Zoe was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. I decided that I wanted to donate whatever hair I had in honor of her. When I first tried to cut it in November, another salon told me that the minimum length to donate was 10 inches and that I didn't have enough. So I had to wait. Right before New Year's of last year, I decided that it was time to try again. Since I wasn't sure if my hair was long enough, I didn't try to get an appointment. I went in and they gave me Taleen. She was the sweetest person!! I told her that I needed a drastic, but very easy to maintain cut (I'm usually a wash-and-go kinda gal with my hair). We looked at some pictures of cuts, we talked about what would look good and what would work. I think that she was more scared of the drastic change than I was! She was very accommodating, asking if I was ok, reassuring me that it will be ok. I knew that it would be cut short. I was ready for the change!! The end result was oh so fab!! I loved my hair! I still LOVE my hair! Everybody loves it!! A lot of people told me that I lost about 10 years with my new do! It's been almost three months since my haircut and I am still getting complements!! I am a male and I go to Jaz for her haircuts. I don't get my hair slashed and burned at Supercuts and the cost is very reasonable compared to other salons in the area. I go in here to take my hair from surfer dude long to a clean crew with absolutely no cuts in between. The way Jaz layers my hair allows for it to grow out beautifully no matter how long it is between cuts. She actually spends the time cutting all the hair rather than buzz whacking it with a machine trimmer. This makes a significant difference in both time spent cutting my hair and the ability for it to grow out naturally without needing trimming cuts. My comparison comes from Half Time Cuts (on Foothill before you get to the Best Buy and Bed Bath and Beyond) and I can honestly say that Jaz does a much better job cutting my hair and easily spends 10-15 minutes longer to make sure that theres no loose squirrels that will grow out into ill-tamed cowlicks. read more

I love this place! The stylist who pampered me was Taleen. She is UH-MAY-ZING to say the least. She knows her craft very well and will tell you if the haircut/Color you want is going to look good on you. I came in knowing what I wanted. I wanted to change my hair color and everything. She was very honest in telling me that it might not be good for me because she was concerned about the health of my hair. Honestly, other hair stylists would've just jumped the gun and did what I asked them to do. I really appreciated her honesty. WORST SERVICE. NOT RECOMMENDED. I found this in Groupon and i wish i shouldnt have. I didnt know it was closed and that they have the worst reviews when i bought a service on groupon. One of the owners, Nick, transferred to HOTHEADS in Pasadena and he ruined my hair! I came out unhappy the first time i came in. I gave him a second chance booked and appointment at 6:00pm. I came in at 6:00pm and no one entertained me. He was just there and didn't mind me at all. After waiting for an hour and 15 mins, he finally entertained me. We talked for 15mins. We couldn't agree on how we are going to fix my hair because if he corrects my hair he's not going to do it for free!!!! He is charging me $120 to correct it. He didn't want to give my money back either!!! Can you believe the audacity of this guy???? He didn't even do anything that night that I came in after waiting for 2hrs!!! I was trying to explain to him what he did wrong but he just DOESN'T GET IT. If he doesn't see what's wrong with my hair how can he fix it? He genuinely think it's great. I've been looking for a new place to get my eyebrows done. . . not a hole-in-the-wall joint, not the ghetto, not an asian fobby place (no offense), not a ritzy day spa either. . . so I did a little searching online, and what comes up first? Hotheads on insiderpages.com. Review after glowing review, there is gushing reports on how fantastic Jazmine is with hair, and how amazing Maral is with eyebrows (and hair). I call the number, speak to Jazmine, and she gives me Maral's number (already pleased with the first conversation). I scheduled my appointment for the next day (wha hoo she can fit me in!). . . I go in, and it's a relaxed atmosphere. I meet Maral, and get my eyebrows threaded (it's her specialty) and my bangs trimmed. . . This was my 1st time getting my eyebrows threaded, and WOW! I'll definitely be back again. . . not as painful as waxing, and I won't break out! I don't have to worry about getting burned again, getting wax in my hair, other people's dna/germs/disease all up in the wax. . . I used to work in the spa and salon industry, and there aren't too many people that offer threading in Pasadena. So my eyebrows look good, and my bangs look, well, banging! I'm super glad I found Maral (btw, her eyebrows are really pretty too. . . which was a comforting thing when I first met her!). I live in the neighborhood and have driven by this place so many times that I wanted to check it out. First of all, I must state that I am quite impressed with this salon, but not because of what the salon looks like, but because of the amazing staff. Well she must have heard the desperation in my voice because she was able to set me up with Taleen. Five stars to Jasmine for accommodating me on such short notice, and six stars for hooking me up with Taleen. Taleen is amazing. She is so efficient and professional. She gave me some recommendations of what i should do for my hair - like length and color. I can rave about Taleen, but no one wants to read a novel. So heres the short of it. Shes amazing at color, but even more amazing with those scissors. I wish i took a pic of the cut, but her layering skills is impressive. Taleen was very friendly and constantly checked in on me, and if i needed anything. She will also work with your schedule! I literally walked out after color, highlights, and a cut less than two hours. I noticed the other customers all had great hair too - from cute cuts to fantastic color. I used to go to Amadeus to get my haircut but I became increasingly annoyed by their lack of personal attention. They hardly listened to my requests and cut my hair exactly the same way every time - despite my vocal desire for a little creativity. Then, a couple years ago, my boyfriend recommended I try Jaz at Hotheads. I was a little nervous (I hate switching hair stylists - I like consistency in who I see), but Jaz immediately put me at ease. In the time I've been seeing her, she's taken my hair lighter, darker, shorter, and now through that annoying growing-your-bangs-out phase, and every time I walk out of there, I'm pleased. Jaz pays attention to what I want, but doesn't hesitate to offer her opinion for something she thinks would look great - and I've never been disappointed letting her do what she wants to my hair. The other thing Hotheads offers is threading. Maral is a master at threading eyebrows and every 5 weeks I go in for 5 minutes and leave with my eyebrows looking taken care of and far less wild. It's very reasonably priced and is much better than waxing for my skin. Besides giving awesome haircuts, the stylists at Hotheads are super friendly. They offer coffee, water, and sometimes food whenever you walk through the door. I'd definitely recommend this place! By the way - the building they're in is under construction right now, so there's no sign out front.
