I've been going to Jazmine consistently for haircuts for about 8 years now and am so happy to write this review for her and everyone at Hotheads that has collaborated with their outstanding service. As a Puerto Rican guy with curly hair, it had always been a struggle to find a very skilled stylist for men hair cuts. Most of the barbershops in my island did the buzz cut where you come in, they pass an electric razor around your head and kick you out- not Jaz. From the first haircut Jaz gave me to the one she just gave me a week ago, I always notice how masterful her skills are. I even tried going to 18/8 (fine men salon- which BTW is more expensive than Hotheads) because of them being closer to where I live and after trying them out and quickly finding out that most of their stylists are newbies, I hastily returned to Jaz so she could fix what they did. Man, was it a difference. I'll gladly drive an extra 40 minutes to go to Hotheads. Jaz is like The Michael Jordan of haircuts. Not only that, but her service and demeanor is very personable, she always accommodates my appointments (Yes, appointments. What did you expect?, this ain't no Super Cuts), works in an efficient, confident manner, is never afraid to try anything you throw at her, has mad skills of matching what she sees in pictures and is just plain awesome as a person. Plus if you want something to drink or little things to munch on she has those around as well. It's no surprise to me Hotheads has 5 stars overall. I started coming here over 4 years ago. When I first called, I spoke with Jaz the owner. She was very honest with me and welcomed my business even though I am a time consuming client. She is very upfront with you about what looks good and how to safely do your hair (I bleach to white which can be extremely damaging if done wrong). She has always done great work on my hair. My husband has been coming to her for some time now too. I highly recommend Jaz and Hotheads if you want someone who will be honest with you, do the best for your hair and not just try to make money off you. The salon is bright and big and there's always coffee and sometimes yummy treats on the weekend. Street parking. It isn't hard to find an open spot though. read more

I recently moved to Pasadena from OC and have massive haircut anxiety ... in fact i had not gotten a haircut in nearly 3 months because of said anxiety. Firstly I very much appreciate the availability of applications like Yelp; moreover, I was impressed to see the level of activity between reviewers and owner for this particular place. A lot of reviews, recent activity/response from ownership and all 5 stars aligned - the trifecta for me to pick up the phone and call a place. I called rather last minute, it was Sunday around noon, I think the Salon owner answered and immediately told me she has someone working right now and that person will call me back right away to discuss available appointments for the day. Carla, my new stylist for the rest of my life, called me within 5 minutes and informed she had an opening in an hour if that was fine. It was perfect. I got a men's hair cut and gave my specifications; she informed me this was known as the good boy cut :o) yea so I'm not original - not my top priority. I have unruly curly hair. You know the kind that has Jeckel & Hyde characteristics; Carla nailed it. Everything I specified and more - it was in fact better. I actually felt amazing ... like I knew my haircut was great. I didn't need to wait for a compliment. That feeling alone is invaluable if you have any kind of haircut anxiety. I have been going to Stephanie at Hotheads salon since I moved to Pasadena in 2015. I love the salon- easy parking, super cute, easy to schedule, and everyone is so friendly. I've been going to Jazmine for haircuts for years. Every once in a while when I'm out of town, and I go somewhere else for a cut. I regret it every time. No one cuts my hair like Jazmine. For the first time last week I tried the Brazilian blowout treatment with Maral and it's amazing - tamed my frizz even living by the beach! I'm not much of a girly girl and Jazmine works with my low-maintenance style: she knows I won't spend more than a few minutes on my hair most days and she always gives me a great cut that's easy to maintain. This has absolutely been by far one of the cleanest yet quickest cut I've received and Stephanie sure knows what she's doing. I called and she said for brows I have to call Maral, because each lady BOOKS HER OWN APPOINTMENTS. Eyebrow Apts/ Maral's phone# 626-221-8492. That means many voicemails. DON'T count on this place if you need something right away! You should probably call 3-5 days early if you want to make sure to get a specific time. If you call the day of or the day before, there may be only a few hours for you to choose from. Also, it seems they open around 10.30am or 11am, till 7pm, but I'm not sure. I say that cause when I called the 'store number' at 11am, the lady who picked up wasn't even at the store yet! (she was on her way.) So I assume the # is the hair cut lady's business cellphone or something. I called Maral (Wed. 11am) and had to leave a message. Hadn't heard back in 20min so called again, but didn't leave a message. Finally some 20 min after that I get a call back and she left a message. She wasn't available today till after 5pm, and tomorrow not free till after 3pm. Yea, those hours stink for me because I have school. So I didn't go. Since I haven't been I can't comment on the place and job done, but wanted to share the info on their schedules. Good luck! PS. My rating is for their horrid apt system, but not the lowest stars because I don't want to ruin their good reputation since after all, I haven't been yet. However, the lady who cut my hair rushed to finish my hair before her next appointment 15 minutes after and ended up leaving me with an uneven cut with plenty of mistakes. I liked my layers from Jazmine---well-blended, not too deep but enough to de-bulk and shape. She didn't give me "mushroom hair," and she understood what I meant by "Cut it straight across the back" (lots of folks cut the back slightly longer than the sides, which isn't my preference.) She also started the layers at the right length of my hair to flatter my face. I mentioned to her that a previous stylist had cut the layers shorter on one side than the other. The problem remained after my cut. The second *big* problem were the bangs. I showed her a picture---something up to my lips that would side-sweep easily with the rest of my hair. But she simply chopped them right below my chin, straight across. She didn't taper them, so they wouldn't stay put when styled to the side. There was no graduation between my bangs and the longest layers of my hair, so I would get long hairs mixed in with my bangs when I tried to style them. They were also uneven. When I went back, Jazmine told me different styling would help with my bangs (not true). While she did end up cutting them shorter and snipping into them to soften, they still were not tapered and looked very bowl-like when I styled them to the side. And still some stragglers that I trimmed when I got home. As for the uneven layers, she didn't even look before saying, "I have a non-traditional method of cutting. I don't cut it the same length all over the head, I follow the pattern of your hair, etc." No, it was uneven cut. But for the $90 I paid (including tip), I was expecting better technical skill and a more humble attitude toward the client. read more

I recently had my hair done by Stephanie Barajas. We first talked about what I wanted done and she seemed to really understand me and what I wanted done. After a few minutes of talking we decided on an ombre color. She totally delivered! Im so in love with the color and how well it fades from light to dark. Additionally, I needed a hair cut. I had ridiculously long hair before so I was nervous about cutting it. Again, she did an amazing job and cut it exactly how I wanted.
