I normally have a good experience here, but I was very disappointed with a new advisor I was appointed. I failed my safety inspection for a side marker bulb, and I had to insist multiple times that I was not fixing it at the dealership. I come back during re-inspection to inquire about a "critical" recommendation, and the service advisor was not keeping a respectful tone with me. He kept insisting "toyota recommends xyz," and refused to tell me what specifically was wrong with MY car, and what they observed during my inspection. I had to put an end to it with "you are not understanding what I am asking" for him to say what was wrong with my vehicle. read more

I had to bring my car by to a couple of service issues. My only complaint is the amount of time you have to wait for someone to come check you in. Why on earth isn't someone checking people in all day long? The dealer I go to is a much busier dealer. They have people checking people in all the time. You may have to wait for a specific service advisor, but if you're open to talk to anyone you won't wait. Anyway, they were very friendly and helpful. I called because my 2025 vehicle was having trouble starting. The person who helped me schedule the appointment knew from the beginning that if it was a battery issue, it would be covered under the Toyota warranty. They scheduled me for the next day. Jason took care of everything, and the process went very smoothly. He showed me the battery test results and replaced the battery right away. For context, I had taken my car to a different Toyota dealership in Raleigh a few days earlier for the same issue, and they told me everything was fine. However, the problem continued. Absolute crap customer service. showed up at 8:50 for a scheduled 9am oil change. Met immediately by a guy putting a card in my windshield, welcomed me and said someone would be with me shortly. Less than a minute later, the customer service guy showed up. Entered my phone number onto his tablet (which almost immediately gets me bot emails from them), confirms my purpose for the visit and says he'll take from there, will text me when ready. I go inside to the waiting area (an open concept space for the customer service reps and customers - meaning you can see/hear from anywhere). 10 min into my wait, a call from 'Michelle' with some "good news" about my car. They just want to know if I would be interested in selling. But nothing from my guy. At 11am, customer service guy calls me on my phone (cos he and the rest seem to be too lazy to walk the 10 steps or so to actually talk face to face with the customer) saying they needed to replace something. Fine. 12pm and no text or call. But I can see my car in the area where they park after service. I give the grace that maybe they're busier than it appears, are finishing paperwork, etc. They'll reach out. Nada. I have to find the guy. No apology. Nothing. They did. it appears to be swamped. Scheduled maintenance for my Prius - fine, I'll go work remote for 90 minutes. I walked into the familiar doors to the service area and - WOW! There is no back wall, with messy tables and cheesy posters behind the service desks! Instead, the area opens directly into the customer waiting area that has been remodeled (yet again!!) to have more seating, spaced further apart (for those who don't know how to have a non-hands free phone call in public - grrrrr!). Then I notice a nicely placed work desk facing the rear glassed in area and - what? Covered, shaded outdoor seating? And the Wifi works well out there? Take all the time you need! It's Spring, I have my soda and water bottle, and there's this comfy table (made from recycled plastic milk carton faux wood - nice touch!) While I'm writing this, I get a text with the multi-point inspection of my vehicle (I've been here 15 minutes!) and recommendations from the mechanic. I'm living in the future! These folks continue to innovate and, as someone in the tech industry who depends on access to internet and quiet for writing or online work, this is as close to re-creating my home office as any business has ever gotten. The worst experience I've had in this dealer 1) they offer vehicles that they don't have online they make me drive for a 1hr saying that the vehicle has it in the store and ready to show it to me and when I arrive they start with lies (Marcelo) he offered me that the car would be ready before arriving and when I arrived that the car has problems and was in the workshop. 2) three days later he calls me to say that the car is ready we make the appointment and he tells me that the car will be ready to look at it and surprise when I arrive it starts with that the car is in the workshop again " lies in this dealer". what a bad service, what a bad business to believe in them and what a shame that it is a dealer of full of lies ... in the end we negotiated the price of another truck and they did not want to negotiate . As a new comer to Durham I took my Camry to Mark Jacobson Toyota for its 30k service.

Based on two service experiences so far, Mark Jacobson Toyota on 15-501 in Durham rates three or four stars for my wife and me. I'm going to be generous and give a four (good), but I think a three (OK) is equally valid. I'm going to break this review down into pros and cons. Pros: 1a. They're decently fast. On an ordinary Saturday, my wife's car was logged in at 1:06pm and ready at 2:15pm. During that time, they changed the oil and oil filter, rotated the tires, performed a multi-point inspection, and replaced the cabin air filter and battery. Total was $358.21 ($112.39 labor, $220.83 parts, $24.99 tax). 1b. On another ordinary Saturday, my wife's car was logged in at 12:58pm and ready at 2:50pm. During that time, they changed the oil and oil filter, rotated the tires, performed a multi-point inspection, flushed the brake fluid, and performed an air conditioning coil and duct refresher service. Total was $472.61 ($268.07 labor, $165.99 parts, $25.57 miscellaneous charges, $20.00 customer loyalty coupon, $32.98 tax). The miscellaneous charges were "environmental fees" "shop waiter appt." What does that mean? 2. They haven't tried to upsell anything. 3. They are open on Saturdays. I think there's value in a garage being open on a weekend day. I prefer to take my car to independent shops which are usually only open on weekdays. 4. On the second visit, my wife got a text with a link to a thorough list of service items. I liked that. The list included a 17-second "Inspection Video" of the underside of her car. It focused on the tires, axles, and joints. I thought it was helpful. I'd love to see more videos of other parts of the car, perhaps under the hood before/after they've replaced or serviced parts. 5. They are good about sending discount coupons after service visits. Cons: 1. On the first visit, when my wife pulled into the service bay, no one came out to greet her. After waiting both inside and outside of her car, since no one showed up, she went inside the building (at some Toyota dealerships, you drop your key off inside the building). An employee told her to go back outside and that someone would be with her. I'm not sure what the issue was there, but she was eventually seen and checked in. In comparison, in general, our experience at check-in bays at various dealerships (not just Toyota) is being greeted by a service advisor almost immediately. This did not happen on the second visit, so maybe this was just a one-off thing. 2. The amenities here aren't as great as other Toyota dealerships. For example, at the Toyota dealership in Savannah, they offer free food (e.g., chips, donuts) and drinks, including coffee, for service customers while they wait. Here, there are vending machines. Also in Savannah, they wash and vacuum my wife's car with every service, and the actual visit is just as fast. Here, they do not wash or vacuum. I'm not saying Mark Jacobson should offer all this; I'm just pointing out that there are other Toyota dealerships out there that offer these perks at no additional cost. It's certainly nice. So, the customer service and amenities were a bit lacking here compared to other Toyota dealerships. 3. The first visit, my wife brought her laptop to try and get some work done while waiting. Someone from the sales department approached her and made small talk. The salesman didn't try to sell her anything. My wife thought the interaction was weird. 4. Mark Jacobson Toyota wasn't as thorough as our favorite independent shop in Georgia (we split our time between North Carolina and Georgia). Unsurprisingly, we get more bang for our buck at the independent garage. Generally, it's no secret that service departments at dealerships charge more. Luckily, I think the increase in cost by going to a dealership for service is somewhat mitigated by owning a Toyota vehicle since Toyotas are some of the best cars on the market in terms of low maintenance cost. All that said, the service level and cost at Mark Jacobson were consistent with other Toyota dealerships we have experience with (Savannah, metro Atlanta). Ultimately, we were satisfied enough with the experience here that we will probably return for future service visits. Mark Jacobson Toyota is conveniently located close to I-40 exit 270. read more

The last time I went there (for an OIL CHANGE) they put my vehicle in 4WD by mistake and added wear and tear to my transmission trying to fix it... btw my oil change was $104!!!!!!!! My issues with this dealership historically: 1. I've ordered two touch up paints from here and one came in time while the other was there for like 6months-a year until I actually got it (someone put it in the wrong drawer and every time I came looking, nobody checked the drawer it was in) 2. Upon getting my seatbelt replaced due to a recall I found an extra bolt in my seat that "wasn't needed" so I just have to trust you this dealership. 3. I once had a tire pressure light on and was told I needed a new sensor (I added more air to the spare and the issue went away). How do I know the bolt wasn't actually needed? Why should I believe it's not actually needed when the service department didn't know how to change my vehicle back and forth from 2WD and 4WD? (this is a simple vehicle operation - especially for a mechanic) How do I know you guys won't up charge me given you've done it with that tire pressure light situation? I just can't trust this service department, even for an oil change. My concerns were passed to the GM, they ignored me and DO NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR CUSTOMERS ONLY YOUR MONEY!!!! read more

Every single time I have left this service department, I have had to return because either the problem was never fixed or they somehow did amazing work and created a new problem! I cannot count on two hands how many times I've had to come in to have problems fixed in the last year for my car that is less than 2 years old. To even get them to listen to what you're saying, you must explain it, explain it again, and honestly probably 10 more times before they decide to pay attention. I visited your parts counter to check on parts availability for the tsb related to the vvti gear prior to dropping the car off. As I expected. Vvti gear not in stock and on national back order. 4 other parts the tsb called for .. gaskets were in stock. I have the parts list from the parts department during that encounter. I found a toyota vvti gear and ordered it. Thinking ? Bring car in, have diagnosed. If vvti gear give go ahead to install. If not and the starter was the issue, bring car to an independent to do the starter. Return the gear. 1. Made an appointment, when I got there was told there was no appointment. 2. I explicitly asked that the cold start problem be diagnosed. I told the writer the vvti gear issue was common, there was a tsb out. I told the writer I had the gear so that if that was the problem, we wouldn't have to wait on parts. I told the writer that the part was on national back order. I explicitly asked to Diag the issue and call me with the cause prior to performing any work. The service request was not written up as I asked. 3. I got a call the evening I dropped off the car advising that the car would not be done that day and would be ready the following day. 4. I got a call on the second day saying the car was ready and Id be charged for the vvti installation. When i arrived, I was handed a bill for near $984. I never got a call confirming it was the vvti or the starter. No chatter on first start leaving the dealership. I made a stop and upon starting the car, I heard the chatter. I popped the hood to take a look. The entire engine bay looked untouched. I checked the receipt and saw I wasn't charged for gaskets. I know there are short cuts that can be taken. But There would be finger prints .. disturbed dirt. Clear signs that work was performed on the engine. There are none. How can you possibly do this job and not replace a single gasket ? Or not disturb the engine ? I have seen a decline in the service at that dealership since the original owner passed. I won't use you guys any more. read more

Came to Mark Jacobson Toyota for an Inspection and Oil Change. I was told I needed new brake pads, which was true, however they wanted to charge 400 dollars for two front pads. That is roughly 320 dollars in service fees when my tires were already off of the vehicle and jacked up, meaning 320 dollars for maybe 20 minutes of their time. Very disappointed in this dealership after having great experiences with Hendricks Toyota Concord. After I declined this offer, I was then told I failed inspection for having ripped front wipers... which considering the tropical storm that passed recently, I'd think I'd know if they were ripped, however "any ridges require replacement." So now I am spending 70 dollars for wipers that are half that price anywhere else. Overall a terrible experience, they will try to get money out of you no matter what. I got a notice of 2 safety recall issues. I called on Friday for them to tell me they had no remedy for one of these serious safety issues but they had the part in stock to replace the faulty cable and I could get it repaired on Monday morning. I took it in Monday morning and they said it'd take a couple of hours but I could use a loaner vehicle. After four hours I returned to get my car only to be told they were still working on it. They suggested I go home until it was ready. So I did. Once I got home I got a call saying they didn't have the part in stock. Without the part, what the heck were they working on for 5+ hours?? I said I'd come get my car but they said I should wait until the following day since the part would be delivered in the morning and they could replace the defective safety issue. I get a call Tuesday morning telling me that the part wasn't delivered and I should come get my car. So, they lied when they said they had the part. They lied when they said it'd only Tak a couple of hours. They lied when they said they were still working on my car. They lied when they said they'd have the part on the following morning. When I went to get my car, they even failed to give it a complimentary wash which they said they'd do. They even lied about that!!! At this point I'm forced to drive a vehicle with two safety defects that they either don't know how to fix or are unwilling to do so. Unsafe! Untrustworthy! On unapologetic regarding wasting two days of my personal life which I'll never get back!!! Totally disgusting and extremely unprofessional!!! read more

I'd been here before to get a key fob set up and ended up having to come back a second time cos it wasn't working properly. I wasn't happy they didn't get it right the first time, but was willing to give them a pass. Now for our second car something broke on the outside and needed to be replaced. It was a simple fix and the part was probably $50. I called and explained what it was and figured while I was making the appointment the person was checking to see if they had the part in stock. Never assume. First of all even though I thought we were clear on what needed fixing when making the appointment, something completely different and unrelated was written on the work order. Second, little did I know their policy for all cars is to take 1.5 hours to access your car and if they don't have the part they have to order it and you have to return. Now why would I waste an hour and a half of my time to find out I have to return later, especially since I've explained what piece on the car needed replacing? It's a detail item at that, not mechanical. And there's no way it would take that long to see this glaring fix needs to be replaced. What else are they "accessing" to try to tell me later needs fixing that was fine before I got there? This is why I DO NOT TRUST dealerships and will never return to this one. read more

Bought a used Honda van November 30, 2024. Before the purchase, I noticed a deep scratch on the top of the van and the manager gave $500 off for that. The first time we had a rain, we had a leak at the top of a back sliding door (not at the scratch). Reached out to dealership to see what to do. Since it was "certified", he said to take it to the Honda dealership. So, I did since I had some recalls for it anyways. The Honda dealership pointed out a good bit of body damage to the top of the van and didn't try to fix the leak...recommended talking to Mark Jacobson for a resolution. After reaching back out to Mark Jacobson, I was told they couldn't do anything because this body damage had been disclosed. I found the scratch on top....nothing had been disclosed about body damage. Came to MJT after a my local garage failed to pick up the phone on New Year's Eve weekend and my Tacoma decided to not start. Got it towed in, one of the sales reps gave me a ride up 501 to the Enterprise Rent-A-Car without prompting or asking if I was even a customer. After New Years, got a detailed inspection and check-list of things that needed done (thankfully only a battery and some other minor routine work), was able to approve, request quotes, or reject all of the work remotely without having to stop working from home. I'm more than upset with the service department from yesterday. I had no idea they were tossing in a $200 plus fee for an alignment and I would have absolutely held off on getting that done. When I called I specifically said, "I want to get my 30,000 mile service set up." They did an alignment and then surprised me with the bill at the end. I did tell the guy I had no idea this was being done and thought anything being done was part of my regular 30,000-mile service and he didn't seem to care nor be helpful in fixing the issue. Then I called back and talked to Maria who said she would have the manager call me yesterday and I confirmed this with her again and she assured me they would call yesterday. I called back at 6 and of course, the manager had already left supposedly when I talked to Maria. The manager called me this morning only to tell me she heard the call where they told me I was getting an alignment... But she fails to hear the part where they do not mention this is not part of the regular 30,000-mile service or that this will be an additional $200 plus dollars. I wrote it off when I bought the car and the finance department upsold many items on the sale and didn't look at other areas for financing than their own department but now this is twice they have upsold me and I've been stuck with the bill. Sadly this is likely done often to women and people in general who are not aware of what exactly is included in their contract. Now being a law student myself it's hard to dismiss and deny them knowing what they are doing. When I got there I should have been told that it would be an extra charge and should have been consulted about if I wanted to go ahead with something that was not typically included and that I would need to pay and additional $200 for. Of course, management was not helpful at all because all they cared about was getting the money. I only went with this location because Edwin is a great salesman and the doctor I was working with Dr. Kelly of Duke recommended this location to me. "Good dealership, excellent service department" We bought a Prius there in 2008- good dealership, but absolutely no haggling- they'll make you an offer and that's the end of it. May seem annoying, but on the other hand, you can always turn it down and go elsewhere, and you'll quickly know their "final price." I like the service department a lot, though. You can make appointments easily online. They are typically very good at telling you how long things take. Yes, they cost a lot more than "Jiffy Lube" ($45 for oil change, rotation, checks), but they do things carefully, the wait-area seating is very comfortable (free wifi!), they'll drop you off somewhere if you need it, all parts are there, the inspection is thorough (pointing out loose belts, worn tires), etc. Plus, they're both honest and rigorous... I went once asking for a 30,000 mile service, they looked online and saw I had done it last time (oops!), and rather than hiding that fact and just doing it again for the same high price, they told me that I had done it already and said all I needed was an oil change. Came in for a test drive of a Certified Pre-Owned, that's when I met Charles Browning (aka Charlie Brown). He was great! Highly recommend working with him. He was kind, respectful, not pushy, and listened to what I was looking for and honestly didn't seem like he was there for the commission, but for me as a customer. I really appreciated that. I am visiting from out of town and locked my keys in my trunk. I needed a key cut for my trunk and it was not an easy fix. The SERVICE department at this location was extremely helpful and kind. I've taken my new Tacoma in to this dealer twice now for the same 2 issues - both have not been resolved. One is alignment and the other is the known issue with Tacoma stereos skipping during Bluetooth connectivity. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/audio-skipping-while-playing-from-iphone.528022/ Dealership is claiming to be waiting for software update - this is a delay tactic and they'll wait for my truck to go out of warranty and I'll be shafted with a stereo that's flawed - I'm in the process of writing a letter to Toyota and letting them know I won't be going away on the issue anytime soon - it has done this literally since day 1 in August. I've tried multiple audio devices they all skip on Bluetooth. The 2nd is alignment. I think this past time they just drove my truck into the bay and drove it back out. The steering wheel still sits to the left and when straightened the truck goes hard right. The other issue is scheduling service - I've scheduled all my service online on their website and when I get there I am in a hurry to get an Uber to get to work - I don't have time for explaining why I'm there - I did it in the SERVICE APPOINTMENT ONLINE. What's the point in doing an online reservation if I have to go through the entire process when I show up? Any time I miss at work I have to make up by staying late. When I show up I want to hand you the key and know that you know what you're doing. I have dropped my truck this morning off at an alignment specialist because I've given up on Mark Jacobson Toyota to fix this alignment issue I've had since day 1. A straight steering wheel shouldn't be asking much in 2020. For my first Toyota vehicle it sure is becoming a pain in the neck. Positives: Shuttle drivers are friendly and the advisers are friendly but I don't think the mechanics know what they're doing based on what I've seen so far. read more
