On the verge of tears from gratitude for Galen and how much he has literally SAVED me these last few years I've been coming to WASP automotive. After getting my oil changed from a different shop (which he had advised me against more than once) my CRV began leaking oil steadily. He determined the other shop over stripped the threads to my oil pan by over tightening, causing the leak. He fixed their mistake, bypassing having to purchase a new oil pan, and had me back on the road without breaking my budget. I cannot express my appreciation enough for the quality of work Galen does and how much I trust him with my vehicle. I've learned my lesson and will be using WASP exclusively. Thank you, G!

If you didnt bring your laptop or tablet to use with their complimentary free wifi, they have two computers you can use.

We just moved to the area and I am so glad that we ended up doing a little more research and found this place. Pete was amazing to work with and was very accommodating. I originally brought my 2001 Honda CRV to the local dealership to be looked at for a possible leak. They told me that I would need a new radiator and also recommended a bunch of other things totaling a price tag of over $3000. I figured a lot of it was bogus recommendations, seeing as they suggested getting work done, that I had just had done a month ago in Ohio. Needless to say, I brought it to Wasp Auto, they were kind enough to squeeze me in for an evaluation and only recommended the new radiator, without any of the other superfluous services the wallet gauging dealership recommended. Great work, friendly service. Another plus is a big waiting room with free wifi and two newer iMacs to use if you don't bring your laptop or tablet.

I love this place. I used to take my car to brand name oil change, quick stop sort of places and always left with a bad taste in my mouth. Either they would try to talk me into changing out a filter that didn't need it or they would charge me for repairs I didn't approve. Wasp doesn't do any of that! I take my Subaru to see Pablo - he's a great guy! But they work on all Japanese model cars, and I believe there's a specialist for each one. Pete, who runs the place, is always trying to help out. As soon as my contract with the tire place runs out, I'm going to buy my tires from them too! They have a convenient waiting room, with wi-fi Internet and 2 computers. They have free soda and coffee, and lots of magazines to read. If you need to drop your car off and get to work, they'll take you! I work in Hillsborough and they've driven me out there more than once! All of that is complimentary when you bring your car in for anything! What I love most about this place though is how upfront and honest they are about your car. They'll explain things so that they make sense (even to a girl who knows nothing about what's under the hood) and they never try and pressure you into something you don't need! Pablo is great about reminding me about major upcoming services on my car and when they do roll around, I get put on a payment plan - because I need my car running, even if I don't have the cash to pay for it at the time. I really, really can't say too much about this place. These are great guys. Keep it local and bring your Japanese car to Wasp. They're a little difficult to find, but if you go to the intersection of 54/55 and you know where the Dog House is...they're right behind it. It's worth the drive from anywhere in RTP!

Most of the staff was smoking, I did see a few packs of cigarettes around. I came in with a flat tire, trying to get it patched. I also had a damaged stud after it broke off the wheel while still inside the lug nut, thanks to roadside assistance. I even brought over an extra lug nut and stud from an auto parts store that was recommended to me. But the staff said they couldn't use those. So they had to use their supplier and it took over an hour to get the part. They actually had to go out to get the right parts, which was good of them to do. They also replaced my air cabin and filter I didn't come in asking for them to be fixed, but at least they made me aware of it and I appreciated that. What frustrated me is the tire was patachable and they didn't do it. They simply removed what was left of the stud and them put on the new parts with my spare still on the car. So they then told me to go down the street to Firestone to try to get the tire patched. That turned into another 2 hours over there, but that's for another review. But the worst part is they charged me $145 in labor. And they couldn't even finish the job correctly. I could understand a small charge for the air filter. But $145 just for labor is insulting and inappropriate. My total bill was around $230. To total it up, an hour and 45 minutes is what I spent in that office, and for most of that time there was only one other customer. It's not as if they were backed up with a lot of Sunday afternoon jobs to do. I have had good experiences with other Jiffy Lube locations in the past. I will never visit this one ever again.

It turns out the engine was also completely shot--something they failed to diagnose or mention. I had to tow the vehicle to another shop, where the mechanics immediately noticed a severe misfire without even plugging in a scan tool. A compression test confirmed zero compression on cylinder 1, requiring a $20,000 engine replacement. It is impossible to believe that a specialized transmission shop didn't notice a catastrophically failing engine before taking my money. When I reached out to discuss a partial discount, management completely refused to budge. Their stubbornness backfired: I disputed the entire $8,000 charge with my credit card company for receiving a broken product, won the dispute, and walked away with a FULL refund. He answered his phone right away, listened to the issue, and came plenty prepared. Not only was he fantastic with the service he provided, he was able to get us discounts on the parts we needed, willing to work around us very close to Christmas (even offering to work ON Christmas), and it turns out he can do more than just cars. Since moving to NC, all we ever hear about is how everyone in this state has "A Guy" they know that can do fix-it/handy projects around the house. Clyde at Pass The Wrench happens to be That Guy for us now. It's rare you find someone that loves what they do and is willing to do good work at a good price without trying to swindle their customers for a quick buck. When it comes to local businesses, Pass the Wrench is exactly the sort of place I want my money going because the person running it happens to be just an all around good human. He might be based out of Raleigh, but he services all over and will come to you to fix your car. We're out in Clayton, and he came to us without issue. I will personally be recommending him to everyone I know.

I arrived at my scheduled time 1:10pm and I was finished by 2:15. I work in the dental field and went on my lunch break, because of this I called my patient and asked if I could move them to 2:30 because I knew I may run late. The patient was able to accommodate me. (This is important for the review) they were able to plug the tire and because I had purchased the warranty there was nothing due. Joe fixed me right up and I made it back in time. A couple days later my TPMS light indicates it can't read my tire pressure. I go online to make an appointment for 6:00 that day. The Durham location calls me and states they can't see me at 6:00 because they have 3 people already for 6:00. I informed them I picked the time the online offer. They stated the online schedule doesn't take into consideration that they already have people scheduled and asked if I could come at 4:00. I informed them I could not, I could do 5:30. They stated they could not see me until next week, informed them I didn't want to wait that long, I'm not sure if this tire is leaking or just the light. I inquired if another Firestone would be able to see me and handle the issue. He stated yes, so I go online and make an appointment with them for 6:00. Low and behold they call me and stated they couldn't see me at 6:00 because they were booked. It sounds like their online systems need to be updated, because you show me what's available and I choose. I say okay and cancel the appointment, I call my mom and ask if i could use her car and she says yes. I go back online and schedule with New Hope location for 12:00pm the next day. I get a call from the location informing me that I made another appointment, I told him yes I will have my mother bring it. He then tells me I need to go back to Durham and what's their number because it makes no sense that they can't see me until next week. I provided the number even though at this point I have steam coming from my ears! New Hope calls back and said he spoke to Jeff the general manager and they can see me tomorrow at 6:00, and to call them. I call Jeff, and said I guess the Raleigh location called you and he proceeds to say we can see you tomorrow at 8:00am. I once again inform him I cannot do 8:00, I have a patient. I can do 4:00 and that's the time we settle on. Last night I received a text that my appointment has been updated to 9:00am, at this point I have decided to see someone else and just pay out of pocket. Then today I received a text today stating my appointment is at 6:00pm then I receive one 15 minutes later stating my appointment has been moved to July 31 at 12:00pm. Who arbitrarily moves an appointment? Can you imagine your dental office sending you a text that they have just moved your appointment? I spent over 1,1000 for new tires and brakes less than a year ago and they can't even uphold their warranty.
