Instead, he kept insisting on telling me the "fastest way to get those maps" in spite of my telling him I did not care and I WANTED HIM TO SEND ME THE MAPS. Four separate times the little twitch prissed at me and talked over me. I'm done with AAA because of him. I was waiting for AAA for over 3 1/2 hours to send someone to tow me after blowing a tire getting off 29 onto 185. After 20 plus text messages back and forth between AAA and myself and sending my wife and her girlfriend home in another ride AAA suggested that I find my own service provider to assist me which really surprised me for supposedly being a national advertised service provider. I called Tar Heel Towing and they were there in less than 10 minutes. B. J. was very helpful and towed me to Tire Max in Summerfield. Thank you Tar Heel Towing and B.J. Trying to get AAA to reimburse me for the towing. Was told twice a provider was contacted but none never showed up. Was given the excuse of high volume incidents were the cause but finally told there was no service provide in this area other than one in Eden and they never responded either. The responses I got back were AI generated and only after I insisted talking with a person did I receive a call back. Would appreciate the chance to express my concerns directly to a decision maker in the local area as if one of my family members needed help like I did it could have turned out differently. read more

I'm honestly surprised to see so many positive reviews--are these genuine, or were they possibly written by AAA themselves? My experience at this location was extremely disappointing. The staff appeared unprofessional. They had no idea what services had already been performed on my vehicle and simply suggested work that had already been done. When I asked for a shuttle ride home, they refused, saying they don't offer it for minor services like oil changes--funny enough, they didn't offer it even when I had major repairs done during my 6,000-mile service. The prices are also way too high. For example, they quoted me $189.99 for a coolant fluid service, while other auto service centers charge just $139 for the same thing. I compared all the recommended services and found other places were much more reasonably priced. To make matters worse, I became a AAA member three months ago expecting benefits--but I've realized that whatever 10% discount they give, they quietly add back into the service charges. So in the end, AAA gains and the customer loses. read more

The manager clearly needs a refresher coarse in customer service. I had a part shipped to the hwy 55 location. My regular service writer was off that day but let me know that it showed up and that the store manager wanted it picked up asap. ( I regularly drive 35 minutes to get my car serviced with AAA) so I drive to the store to figure out what is happening and find the manager, Pete. I told him who I was and that I was told to pick up the door but that I wanted the work done at AAA. He told me the part was out by back already ( he put it by the dumpster while throwing his temper tantrum). When I told him that he was being ridiculous and over reacting, he told me to just go get the part and that he didn't want to do business with me. In a customer service setting if a part shows up with a customer's name on it standard practice is to call the customer to try to set up an appointment and gather information. Instead of handling the situation the right way, Pete was rude and useless. It is time for my transmission service and my brake fluid service within 500 miles so between fluids and the part installation he chose to turn down around $1200 in services just because he handled a situation wrong and was too immature to resolve the issue correctly. This is the only negative experience I have had with AAA in years. I always try to give good reviews for the employees that are informative and respectful. Why are the two local Durham AAA Travel desks closed when I try to get maps? I went to Westgate Dr one day and was told the travel people were not there that day (hours were not posted on the door). They sent me to the Hwy 55 location and again there were no travel people working (and no signs with when they would be there). What is going on with AAA Travel? I also tried to order maps to be delivered to me online and got an error message when I hit the "order maps" button. Is AAA in trouble financially? I used to love this organization but now I cannot get travel info and no one seems to know why. read more

Very predatory business trying to fleece you during your time of need. We have paid for AAA membership for years and finally needed assistance. We suspected there was a battery issue and requested roadside battery service. Their contractor who got the job canceled their trip out, suggesting it was a different issue, then they towed us to their own AAA repair shop to charge 3X the price for the same exact service we had originally requested. Easily 1/3 of the price at another closeby repair shop we have gone to for a different car. Also tried to convince us to get many unnecessary costly services on top of that for no reason. People go into debt because of these types of practices. Absolutely disgraceful. read more

Not particularly happy with the customer service here. I called a day prior to make an appointment. I was a given a quote. I was told that my 10% discount was to be applied once I came into the store. I came into the business and when I was asked to pay I noticed that the 10% discount was not added. They then tried to make it seem like they baked the discount into the price when that is not true at all. Then the guy who did the quote gets up from his chair and basically cut me off when I was asking a question. Very disappointed. read more

These guys seem friendly enough but they don't fix anything. They couldn't really fix my car after keeping it almost a week, we're extremely poor communicators, and let me know I had a bad light bulb early on, but didn't fix it. We were so busy talking about the bigger issue with th car, they didn't even ask me if I wanted the bulb fixed. I ended up paying 170 for a diagnostic with no real resolution and a blown lightbulb. When I mentioned it, (I admit I was frustrated, they just said, well you never asked us to fix it". They didn't even ask if I wanted it fixed! Complete lack of communication. I will take it somewhere else to get the bulb fixed and fix the actual issue with the car. I don't recommend these guys at all. read more

I hate to call BS on the car repair suggestions because each shop may be more or less preventative, but on my third trip in to this shop I was handed a quote for $3000 of repairs. I know every shop handles things differently, but I know this number too well. So, I drove 30 miles to my favorite country car place and was told my brakes had 15-20k miles left on them(I drive about 6k/yr). That's three oil changes, not an "urgent action item". My shop told me one of the "dirty" fluids was clean without anything in it or being burnt. One other fluid needed changed. So my $3000 bill is looking to be $1100 with all that and some other things. This is a great shop for convenience, but I would suggest a second opinion if they give you a fishy report. Again, each shop is different. One might say " you need to fix one so replace all four" or sometimes a wire and some careful fixing can save you a $300 part replacement. But, my $4k car just needs to be well maintained to last me until I'm ready to replace it. read more

I wish I could give this location a '0'. Their manager, Brian, is a bully. He's got a good sales technique though. First he talks bad about the last place you took the car. Offers to correct things he says they did wrong and says that services they recommended aren't needed. And then he goes in for the kill. Says that he sees from your VIN number that you haven't ever had these fluids changed on your car and you should have the one changed every 10,000 miles, the second every 20,000 miles, and the 3rd every 60,000 miles. Uh, I just brought my car in for an inspection. What are you even doing looking up extra services? But it's AAA, so I stupidly trusted him. Turns out that 2 out of 3 of those fluids are not recommended by be changed out by the manufacturer at all. And the 3rd isn't to be changed out until 150,000 miles. How convenient for Brian that I had 60,000 miles on my car. I confronted him about it. He's a stocky, bigger guy and kept getting in my space. I kept saying that according to my manual, these fluids are not supposed to be changed, except for the one at 150,000. He just kept repeating that it's recommended at 10,000, 20,000 and 150,000 miles - like if he kept saying that I would start believing it. I finally told him to stop talking so I could get out of there. Don't waste your time and money going here. Especially if you're a woman. read more

Really very disappointed in the service I received from AAA in the past few days. As a gold membership holder, you would think I would at least receive some semblance of customer service. I made an appointment on Wednesday for Saturday and received a confirmation email, only to get another on Saturday morning saying that I cancelled my appointment (which I didn't). When I called, Rita answered the phone and said she didn't know what happened and that she would try to find out (after I mentioned I was a gold member with AAA). I'm seeing all kinds of reviews from 1 to 5 stars. We've taken our two cars here several times and usually get good service. They even did a repair under warranty one time on a repair they did the previous year. My wife always asks for Shane to work on her car. They have a Web-connected computer, or you can use their wi-fi to connect your devices. On one particularly extensive repair I used my laptop and got lots of work done. I think if they know you, like they do us by now, they'll definitely take care of you. I'm surprised sometimes by the costs -- sometimes higher than I thought, sometimes lower but the actual repairs are usually done well. We've also taken our cars to WASP auto but they've misdiagnosed issues before and their customer service staff are not the most pleasant. read more

I am certain that when someone reads this, it will seem unreal that I assigned a 5-Star review!!!! I took my car for a diagnostic given my check engine light was on and other sensor lights on a 2019 Subaru Forester. The diagnostic process took 1business day which seemed too long for me at the time and a disappointment HOWEVER, when the technician called the following day to tell me what they discovered, they had taken it upon themselves to conduct a search through Subaru online resources and found out that the problem was covered by an extended warranty!!!!! It was suggested that I take the car to a Subaru Dealership for further service. I had the paperwork that the AAA Technician provided, and they were correct ---- the dealership corrected the problem and it cost me $0 which could have cost me ~ $1400 had the AAA Technician not been diligent. The cops were called on me by an employee for simply waiting for a ride. I had my truck towed here, by a AAA tow truck funnily enough, and I was waiting for my wife to pick me up as they allow you to drop off your keys and vehicle after hours. It is 37 degrees right now and, seeing as they're closed, I decided to wait in my truck. I had the cab light and my headlights on so as not to look "suspicious." I even had my truck running for a bit with the heat on. Lo and behold, a cop car circles the area with lights flashing right after my wife arrives to pick me up. I asked the cop, nice guy by the way, if I had done anything wrong and he informs me that an employee called them because I was there. No one ever approached me to ask why I was there. No one saw a giant tow truck drop my vehicle off, nor me conversing with a AAA tow truck driver. However, it's apparently fine to call the cops without any context. A small part of me understands. You're worried about trouble and call the cops, as one should. However, when said person isn't causing any problems and you have a drop-off service, why is the only option to call the cops? Did no one foresee people needing to wait for rides after having unexpected vehicle malfunctions? Especially when temperatures are less than ideal? I haven't even spoken to anyone yet and I already wish I had my vehicle towed elsewhere. read more

If you're a AAA member, you get your passport photo taken for free here. Other places will charge as much as $15. In and out in 5 minutes. The staff is friendly enough, although maybe a little unprofessional (publicly) about not wanting to do "More Work" on a Friday afternoon. In any event, I probably wouldn't bring my car here for service (based on an experience one of my co-workers had here), but if I need passport type photos again, I'd come back. read more

Not happy with this place. I went in for a simple auto inspection by appointment on my 3 year new car. This shouldn't take more than 30 minutes. I left 1 he 15 minutes later with no inspection but with my key fob broken by their reckless mehanxu mix and dirty steering wheel and dirty shifter and vehicle parked outside on top of another vehicle. Ridiculous. The batteries just worked fine (yeah it probably doesn't hold ideal level of charge). They were insistent that I replace batteries. It seems AAA has turned into a place where they push for additional services when you go for auto inspection without very crisply and clearly saying that those services aren't required for passing the inspection. They were focused on everything other than what I asked to get done. Also if they are poking around other places no wonder they cannot finish inspection in 75 minutes. They blamed the state for the modems not working causing inspections not to complete. There was a person who was being turned away second time because they couldn't hook up to state to upload inspection data. In my 10 years in North Carolina I have never seen this at any place. While I will follow up with management on my experience but I wanted to share it with others so they are forewarned. read more

This place had a great location and spirited personnel, but I did not have the best experience getting my car service diagnosed. I brought my 2002 bmw e46 in for a diagnostic because I heard a squeaking noise coming from my serpentine belt. I have been getting my car serviced at BMW in Virginia for the past year. For some reason, most of the folks seem to only have experience on domestic cars or brand new foreign cars. I had a "older" foreign car and they seemed to "find/create" problems to fix that did not exist. They told me I may need a new radiator, tensioner and water pump bolts. They even questioned the work of my BMW mechanic. However, they did tell me they would not charge me for the diagnostic. Next, I promptly took my car to a reliable personal mechanic (in NC) who let me know that none of the "problems" existed. It was only squeaky due to cold weather and we used a $3.00 bottle of belt grease to fix the squeak. This saved me approximately $300-$400 dollars of unneeded repairs. I have multiple cars, and if I had not been a "car guy", I may have been tricked into getting these unnecessary repairs. Great people at this AAA, but they may only be best to work on cars from 2010 and up. Be advised, this is not a place to take your BMW/AUDI or you may walk out with a huge bill. read more

Let me first start off by saying the front room staff was helpful. Unfortunately, that's where the good part of this story ends (I'll keep it short-ish). I bought 2 replacement tires from Tire Rack and had them delivered to this AAA location to have them installed. After confirming the delivery location with AAA's call center, I scheduled an appointment at this location. I didn't find out til the time of my appointment that dispatch had actually schedule my appointment for the other Durham location. Tires in one location, appointment in another location... That's inconvenient, but fine - I'll just take my tires (THAT I'VE ALREADY PAID FOR) to the other location in Durham where the appointment was incorrectly booked. Not only would the service manager, Eddie Coto, not let me take MY prepaid tires to the other location (remember, the scheduling mishap is also their fault), they told me at 11AM that there was no way they could squeeze me in the rest of the day. I had to reschedule my weekend appointment for the following Monday which required me to take time of work, all because Mr. Coto was not willing to release my tires to me to honor the mis-located appointment. One of the biggest values AAA has for consumers is their customer service - consider this a failing grade. read more

My only issue with this place is the check-in process. You literally have to stand 1 feet from them to notice that you're a customer and that perhaps you're there for car service. 1. In one visit there were 2 people at the desk and 1 of them greeted me and said it would be a moment. The other person was just staring at a screen. So I stood there for like 5 minutes and another customer walks in and the other person staring at a screen greets them and helps them. 2. In another visit, I got to the desk and a lady said, "I'll be right there with you in a moment". So I step back and just wait for about 3 minutes and another customer walks in and goes straight to the same lady and then she proceeds to help that person. So I guess the lesson is...hmmm...go somewhere else? ****** As far as car service, it's been great. Have taken great care of my Ford Focus for 8 years. Necessary repairs have always been reasonable and done in a timely fashion. Not waiting in the shop but rather given the option to be driven home is a big plus. Have never felt pressured to do any repair, no upsell at all. Gia is great and all the mechanics very personable. Update: 7/16/19: Had to call AAA out again on yesterday because again my car won't start. Technician that came out did the diagnostic test and it came back "replace now". She then informed me the the battery they installed a year ago was not compatible with my car and it would require an AGM battery but she didn't have one on her truck. She gave me a jump and told me to take it into the Car Care Center the next day. Well, I'm up early today to take my car to the Car Care Center but of course it doesn't start. Had to call AAA again. Of course they do not have the right battery and are having a difficult time locating a replacement. Call the shop on Westgate Drive and some very unhelpful supervisor said they could order but it would not be in until next Tuesday which is an entire week away. Really? This is really the worst service I've experienced in a long time. The technician that came out today (Jared) was great. He was determined to help me and made at least 5-6 calls to different Car Care Centers speaking with multiple supervisors. I was finally told to take my car to the center on Westgate and they would make sure my car is taken care of. Got to the Westgate and met with the service rep from absolute Hell. His name was George. He was completely rude, demeaning, and disrespectful. Made sure to tell me that he is not "AAA" and that he just works here. Told me that he's not sure when he could get to me and even though the technician had called ahead and I may be waiting all day. His attitude and raising his voice was absolutely unacceptable. This entire situation has been unacceptable, inconvenient, and just plain unprofessional. And George really needs some sensitivity and customer service training. I'm an completely disappointment by this service and my treatment. If you need anything other than minor roadside assistance, go elsewhere. Purchased a battery a year ago with an extended warranty. Had to call AAA last week because my car wouldn't start. They tested the battery and could not get a full charge. Even with the extended warranty, they could not offer a replacement; told me I had to take it in to have it charged first. I've had my car jumped and taken into this service center twice now. First time, they told me it could take anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours to charge (no guarantee) so I had to come back. Second time, I took my car in and waited for 3 hours and they still had not even started. I couldn't wait any longer because my body couldn't take it but I couldn't leave my car and come back because their shuttle service only goes a 10 mile radius and I live beyond that 10 mile point. I just had surgery and got out of the hospital 2 days ago, so this has truly been an inconvenience. Having to get a jump just to go from point A to point B and back is not only inconvenient but it's truly not safe for a woman or anyone else. This battery with the warranty cost me approximately $200, but at this point I'm not even sure what's the point of having a warranty. It feels like they are trying to force me to purchase another $200 battery. Dusty, the Assistant Store Ops Manager, tried starting the car to no avail and even told me that he was sure that once he puts the battery on the charger, it would come back and say "needs to replace". If that's the case, why put me through all of this. I'm thoroughly confused, disappointed, and extremely frustrated to the point of tears. One plus, the did offer to jump my car, if needed, so I could drive it back home and made me an appointment to come back tomorrow at 7:30 am to put me through this same chaos. Really?!?!?!?! I definitely would NOT recommend purchasing a battery from AAA. They do not stand behind their word. And the warranty is just a hoax to charge more. Do yourself a favor and buy elsewhere. read more

Had a great experience with these guys. My car hit a piece of debris on the road and had to be towed in to have undercarriage checked for damage. I was picked up by the tow within one hour. Once I got to service station, my vehicle was prioritized despite a wait because I was on my way to work and needed to wait. Service was done quickly while I had a beverage and free wi-fi. After driving to 6 different places after 5 pm looking for someone to help me replace my battery cable connectors, he said all his technicians were gone for the day but he'd see what he could do. He spent over an hour replacing the connectors and getting my new battery hooked up. His work was flawless. Best part- he didn't charge me a penny. I could tell he truly loves serving others. I've never had a good experience at AAA auto but I had a coupon for a free oil change so I thought I would give this location a shot. I made an appointment for 10am, got there at 10:05 and waited 10 minutes to get checked in which took 10 minutes, so I didn't hand them my keys until 10:25. At that point they estimated a 75 minute wait. The waiting area is comfortable with coffee, tea, and hot chocolate and a tv. It took them over 2 hours for them to change my oil and of course come up with a long list of other problems. My experience with AAA is that this list is not reliable - I've taken the list to a dependable mechanic and they couldn't find any of the same problems. I had them change the air filters and clean the battery which took another 20 minutes. The people here are nice but the business is not. read more

I brought my car here for the first time hoping to find a new go-to shop in the area. I made an appointment for 10 am on a Saturday to get my brakes done, as they were feeling mushy. I should have clued in to this place from the beginning, after having to stand in line behind a customer while there was another agent right there chatting with one of the mechanics, but seemingly disinterested in helping me. After reaching the front of the line, I dropped my keys off and fortunately had a ride home to leave my car there. I heard nothing about my car for hours. Finally, around 1 pm, someone called and said, oh, you're wrong, your brakes are fine. But you need these other umpteen expensive services, and new tires! All of which had to be explained to me like a child, because of course a female doesn't know how tires work. Like a fool, I agreed to a fuel system flush and an alignment, forgoing the other offers. Again, heard nothing. The place closes at 4. At 3:30, I called to see where my car was. After being left on hold for about ten minutes, (then again so they could "check"), I was told my car would be done in 15 minutes. "Don't you close in 15 minutes?" I asked. "Oh, yes, it will be done before we close." So I drive out to pick up the car. I mention the ridiculous amount of time my car was there (six hours!) and the cashier says, oh, well, the fuel system takes time to run through the system. 3 hours? Really? And no apology. Here's the follow to my not so happy visit last time. About a week after the oil change I noticed a really bad oil leak coming from my sister's car. I figured it had something to do with the oil change the week prior but I was hesitant to take it back. After some consideration I decided to call AAA and I got Jo on the line. She was very concerned and asked me to brig the car in the next morning. When I arrived she had the technicians check out the vehicle and they determined that the leak was related to the oil plug they replaced the prior week. So to make sure we were totally happy Jo had the technicians replace the entire oil pan. That was 3 days ago and it appears the problem has been fixed. So I am very pleased with how they stood by their work and their efforts to make sure we were satisfied. read more

My car failed inspection at another shop because it needed tires. I wanted to get tires shipped to a shop from Tirerack, so I called around to all the nearby shops and AAA had the BY FAR best price for installation/balancing. The other shop quoted $144 to install and balance 4 tires whereas AAA was $50 for 4. When the tires arrived, they called AND emailed. Got scheduled right away. I wasn't planning to get it aligned, but the manager offered to get a printout of the current alignment and then if it was out of spec, I could decide to get it aligned. It was out of spec (not a surprise) and I believe they were honest because the printout showed the right front was the issue and I had been experiencing a pull to the right front. Since they went to the trouble of getting the printout and proving it was out of alignment, I consider this very good service (a necessary upsell.) Rich, the manager, also told me they do a 35 (or 350, or 3500, whatever) point inspection while the car is in...Great, I thought, so they'll find a dozen other things wrong with my 20 year old car that leaks oil. I was pleasantly surprised when they didn't come back with a list of other stuff that "needed" fixed! Will definitely go here again.
