I had a tumultuous car beginning in North Carolina. Long story short, I had three days before I began my new job here to lease a car. In NC, you can't have an uninsured car. You also can't get insurance for your car without an NC driver's license. This put me in a serious bind, as I had moved from out of state and didn't have a license when I went to go get my insurance. Josh was really great about all of this, starting my paperwork anyway while I ran around to get everything in order. And everything worked out totally fine--the process was much smoother in the end because of his cooperation. But it gets better! On my birthday, I was eligible for a lower insurance rate. Without me having to say boo, Josh emailed me and let me know that he had found a different insurance company with a much lower rate for me, and all I had to do was come in and sign the paperwork. It was a SIGNIFICANT discount. I even got to re-set up my direct deposit right there! As the very large cherry on top of the ice cream, I (inadvertently, so it was an even better surprise) referred someone to come to them for insurance. A bit later, I got a $5 Starbucks gift card in the mail as a thank you. A bit later than THAT... I got a $50 Target card in the mail for winning a separate drawing you get entered into as a result of that! Holy crap! Giant hats off to Josh and the rest of his family (yes, the business is family-owned, too). I never thought I would have active positive feelings toward any company containing the word "insurance."

Elona Duell, the agent/broker, answered the phone and the conversation started out nicely. I told her about our business and explained that I was trying to get a quote on cargo insurance and in less than 3 minutes she told me that we should get cargo insurance with our current insurance company, because it would be more expensive to do it separately. Since I already knew that getting insurance with our current company was an option,, I explained again that I was looking for a couple of quotes from different companies, just to weigh our options, so if she could give me a quote that would be great. She then proceeded to talk to me in "insurance" lingo and said it wouldn't make sense to get cargo insurance separately from our current insurance carrier. After asking her a third time for a quote she said, with attitude, "probably $1800 to $2500 annually, with 30% down or something like that." If you want someone to give you information without a condescending attitude and trying to count your money, then I would suggest that you NOT call Elona at Insurance Direct!! No more bad customer service in 2018!!

After over 30 years of paying premiums for home and car insurance, the only interactions I ever had…read morewith State Farm until recently were dealt with directly in Greg Lopeman's office, because the claim amounts were below $10,000. For the 2 or 3 claims we made over that time Greg's office handled everything quickly and fairly, and up until a couple of months ago I wouldn't have hesitated leaving a 5 star review. The trouble comes when you have a claim ABOVE $10,000, at which point the issue is out of the hands of local offices like Lopeman's and moves to "State Farm Corporate" as they describe themselves. These "adjustors" literally call themselves "a different company" from the local offices, and they are trained assassins at denying claims. We recently had water damage due to Tropical Storm Chantal, and the gyrations these clowns went through to deny us coverage were utterly ridiculous. When I proved that their first reason for denial was wrong because they were misreading a mechanical code, they came up with a second, unrelated denial. When I proved that wrong and insisted on speaking to a supervisor, that supervisor came up with yet a third reason to deny our claim, the first major one we'd made in over 30 years. Greg Lopeman is a good guy and does his best to run a fair business. But the fact is that State Farm Corporate is positively mercenary, and will be of no help to you if you actually need it. Look at their Google Reviews: 1.2 stars, and every review reads just like this one. Run, don't walk, from anything to do with State Farm Insurance. When you actually need them to do what you've been paying them for, they are worse than useless.
