Pretty bummed about this place. I had taken my car here a few times after moving from NJ last year. Mostly for expensive oil changes. I took it here this past weekend after my car was shaking. I was told I had to pay $900 for new brakes so I agreed and got my car back a day later...only to find out my car was still shaking! Took it back again the next day and was now told I needed new tires. I asked the service advisor if I could do an alignment and he refused saying that it would do nothing if I didn't have new tires...and they want another $850 for them! I'm extremely disappointed in this place. read more

I received a call this afternoon from the manager of the car care center. He was very apologetic and explained that this was not the way his shop was run. He expressed a genuine concern about my poor experience and said that he will reinforce customer concern/satisfaction with his staff. I appreciated the follow up and certainly hope that necessary changes will be made. I must say I think it speaks well of AAA for acknowledging the problem and trying to make it "right". read more

I recently took my BMW to AAA Durham for an oil change, and have smelled oil inside the car ever since. The technician made no mention of any oil leak post service diagnosis. Based on previous experience with this location, they never accept any responsibility for shotty work, only suggest additional costly repairs. My mistake for returning. read more

Excellent customer service !! Paul de Serres is an excellent Service Consultant. My car had sustained damage, and I had to deal with an insurance company to get it repaired. Paul walked me through the entire process. I felt so confident in his ability to take care of my car and my needs. I went this AAA because I had recently gotten a membership and needed an oil change. I get my car serviced at Speights Garage on Fayetteville and Barbie and Mr Speight had always been very straight with my husband and I. When I got the oil change the mechanic had found something and the salesman (oh, and that's what he is) got me and took me back to see a part that had broken on my suspension. He was derogatory about my mechanic being blind and told me it should be done, and done in pairs. For $220 he'd fix them both. I decided to take my car over to my mechanic. When the AAA mechanic brought me my keys he asked where I was taking it and agreed that that was a good idea. He told me it was far less worrisome than the salesman had let on. I went to Speights and Mr. Speight said it wasn't dangerous but it needed to be fixed. He fixed only one side for $110 and told me that AAA lied. I didn't need both sides done, the other side looked fine. I really felt taken advantage of. I wouldn't use them for anything. Liars and thugs. read more

Honest. Trustworthy. Lightning Fast. The AAA Center delivers. Rushed over to the center by 5:15pm on a weekday in time to get a state inspection done before they close at 6pm. The gentleman helping me at the front desk was friendly, courteous and assured that they could do the inspection quickly. The waiting area has refreshments for purchase, a tv and a viewing window to the garage (if you wanted to check on your car). While I expected to wait, I brought a book and everything, I barely had time to catch up on emails before the car was ready. It was so quick and easy and there were no upsells. Also, I noticed that I had left a wad of cash in an accessible place in the car...it was untouched. If you're tired of dealing with long waits and constant upsells check out AAA Center the next time you have routine maintenance, this place is the best! read more

I did not have a good experience here. I had a GREAT experience. I was experiencing engine issues with my car a few days ago and had to get it towed. I'm a new AAA member so I asked that my car be towed to a AAA shop. I had to go to work so I couldn't go with the car but knew it was in good hands. I received a call from my service advisor Jimmy once the car was delivered. Jimmy was prompt and communicated all the details throughout the diagnostic and repair work. Once the car was complete the manager, Connie actually called me personally to let me know the vehicle was done. THEN Connie called me back 2 days after pick up to make sure the car was running good(which it definitely is) and to make sure my experience was good. Wow! Thank you Jimmy and Connie! read more

Nice location, but poor service. I called ahead to book an appointment and request a quote, but when I arrived at the appointment time, they immediately tried to revise the quote amount by an additional $50. After I contested the revised quote, they backed down and said that it would only be about $20 more, accounting for taxes. Right. But when I returned for my car later, they tried tacking on another $80 on top of that. This is exactly the kind of nonsense that a AAA member would be expecting to avoid in choosing a AAA car care center. I will not return. This is really no different than any random repair shop except they have a lot of travel guides and fancy Eagle Creek luggage for sale in the lobby. If you go there, be prepared for the up-sell. read more

I have nothing but great things to say about this business. I needed a new alternator, a new timing belt, a new serpentine belt, a new water pump, and an oil change. They got me in right away and finished all the repairs in one afternoon. Shuttle service picked me up from work and brought me to the shop to get my vehicle. My husband and I were on our way to the Outer Banks and we discovered a nail in one of our tires right before we left. We drove down 55 and found this AAA center. I've been a AAA member for years but I didn't know they had physical locations... Anyway Preston at the shop took amazing care of us. They were able to patch one tire but they found another nail in a different tire that could not be patched. Unfortunately AAA did not carry the tire I needed but Preston made a quick call to Just Tires down the street and they were about to squeeze us in. We're at Starbucks now waiting for the tire to be replaced so hopefully we'll be able to head to the beach soon! read more

They illegally failed my car inspection because the brake light was on. They couldn't figure out why it was on. Since there was nothing wrong with the brakes. They then tried to sell me almost $700 worth of brakes and other unneeded items which may or may not get the light to go out. Another place had told me the light being on was not reason to fail the inspection. Called the State of NC and confirmed the light being on was not reason enough to fail the inspection. The State told me to file a complaint against them. Honest? Trustworthy? I don't think so! Complaint filed with the State, Oh yeah! read more

This place is ridiculous. Went there last Thursday and they said it was a 2 hour back up. The lady who waited on me suggested I make an appointment for Friday so I wouldn't have to wait. I did. Made an appointment at 9 and left at 11:30, for an oil change that I made an appointment for. Really! I will never go back and it is 4 minutes from my house. No "sorry for the wait or anything." I would've been better off waiting on Thursday. Tried it give it 0 stars but it wouldn't let me. First and last experience at a AAA car center. read more

I am Disgusted with the service that I was given(or I should say NOT given) at the AAA in Durham. I went in because my check engine light was on. They had called me after I dropped off my vehichle and quoted me a price of $270. So I told them to do the work. The next day They called me to tell me that they forgot to charge me for the part and that the total price would be $350. I said "ok thats fine". I went to pick up my truck and the check engine light was still on! After driving it for a couple of days(as they told me to) the light had still not gone off. So I take it back, and waited 2 hours for them to tell me that they had forgot to reset it and to drive around for another 2 days. I left and 20 minutes later, the light came back on. I take it back for the third time and I was told that I need to take it to general motors because "There may be an engine problem". And they said that I needed to be aggresive when I go to general motors to get what I want. WELL, It shouldnt matter what I know about vehicles or how I act. When I pay somebody to provide a service and they fall short of fixing the problem then they dont deserve to get paid. Also, if AAA technicians are knowledgeable enough to run a bussiness, then pushing me out the door and sending me somewhere for somebody else to detect the problem to my vehicle is not the answer. The staff is wonderful so I dont know where the breakdown occurs....Unfortunately this is the second time I've had to leave a review regarding the same thing... I made an appointment for 11:30 for an oil change and alignment. It took over 2 hours for the oil at which time I had to pull the plug on the alignment. (The car on the alignment machine ahead of me had been there since the oil change started). Please don't accept appointments if you can't keep them. I went here last year with a friend who got ok service. At the time I thought they were not very professional. But recently when I had a problem they were nearby. So I decided to go to this location. Couldn't have been happier with the service I got. The atmosphere was totally different than when I went in last year. Did notice there is a new Manager. I am older and like to be treated with courteousy. I was kept informed and felt they truly wanted to help me. Very impressed with how quickly I was taken care of and my Mazda back on the road. She broke down all of my options, very thoroughly, and did price checks for me without me even asking. She's amazing. And Gia helped me at the desk, she is absolutely amazing as well! Having to deal with auto repairs is never fun and never ever cheap. I had to bring in my van in for a whole host of repairs and dealing with the staff was an excellent experience. The staff was able to assist me in prioritizing the repairs I needed immediately and those that could wait (saving me money). My dad died leaving me in charge of looking after our car! Something I had almost no experience with! I have had only good and great experiences here! Good solid advice with thorough explanations of my options and prices involved. I was told what things were suggested and what things were important for vehicle safety, and no high sell pressure when I opted to only have the necessary repairs done! The front desk staff are very nice, knowledgeable, and understanding of my ignorance and need to stay on a budget. I am updating this review after the general manager, Rich, reached out to me. Rich agreed to take a look at the vehicle himself after my review was posted initially. We agreed to meet at the AAA location on Glenwood in Raleigh. Rich got my car in and had two of the ASE master mechanics there look at the power steering pump. They noted a seepage leak on the return to the pump and showed it to me, which didn't happen on my initial visit. Both agreed that it was not a safety issue that should have failed the car for inspection. Rich refunded my inspection fee and indicated that he would use the incident to help his team learn. He also indicated that he would work to dial back the hard selling in the front lobby. I came out of this feeling better about my overall experience, but as the affair could have been avoided initially, I will still only use this location if necessary. I love AAA roadside service, so I don't like giving a rather poor review, but this was my 2nd straight poor experience with a routine oil change in the AAA Car Center so I felt like I should share my thoughts... 1) When I arrived, I was first in line at the counter, but still stood there for OVER 5 minutes while two gentlemen were on the phone assisting customers. Each time I go it is so clear that the front desk people should NOT be answering the phone... Unfortunately the phone calls are given priority and it gives the customers standing at the counter, a terrible feeling. You need to have a person in an office dedicated to answering the phones so your people at the counter can help those customers. On the positive side, the guys were very patient with their customers, even though one of the gentleman was visibly / outwardly stressed about how busy it was. My wait time was unacceptable. 2) Even though I was a couple minutes early for my appointment, my car didn't get back into the garage for at least 13 minutes. That isn't horrible, but often times I can go to any other shop and not have to wait that long without making an appointment. 3) My biggest complaint is the amount of time it takes to do the oil change, and it isn't because the mechanic is simply being thorough. Both of my past two times, I watch the worker move around about as slow as a sloth and this time he spent MANY minutes just JOKING AROUND with another mechanic. They weren't "talking shop"; they were just BS'ing. I know because at one point when another mechanic opened the door to the shop, the mechanic who was not working on my car, laughed and let the F-word fly... they were laughing and cutting up. When a guy from the desk saw this, and then saw me looking at them, he went back and talked to them so it was even obvious to one of your other employees... Both times, a routine oil change has taken over an hour, so I've decided that even though I'm a long time AAA member, I'm going to start taking my car elsewhere. read more

Took my dodge grand caravan in to have the passenger side window fixed. We were not able to pick it up in the evening do I paid by phone. My husband picks up the car only to find that both of my children car seats had been removed. He thought nothing of it and got them shaped back in. Then we noticed everything from our cargo council between the seats was out of place! We found things under the back seats!!! And to confuse us further we found a small pocket bible under the middle row. It was not ours. When we went back to return the bible and tell them the state we found our car in the two gentlemen at the counter seemed just as dumbfounded as we were and said it must have gotten broken into!!! I will not be taking my car back here...I can not trust them! I have no idea what went on in my vehicle and they took no responsibility for the situation! read more

Up until 2 years ago, I was pretty satisfied with auto maintenance and repair services here. However, over the last 2 years, they have stepped up the aggressive upsale tactics and get pissy when you turn them down. Just recently I got 2 new tires put on. The customer service rep said that the new tires should go on the back, but this was not done so I asked them to re-do it. They did, but whomever drove my car back to the front of the store (they must have been in the car for perhaps 20 seconds to do this) passed gas in the car with the windows rolled up. Yes, it was really gross. So, fellas at AAA, I hope you had a good laugh, but it just cost you a customer of several years. read more

Husband took 2003 Camry in for inspection..... Would not inspect said it wasn't idling good enough. Wanted to charge $110 just to diagnose. Needless to say left there to take to mechanic..... Here is the kicker.... After leavin there it cuts off every time up you stop. Called in complaint to home office. Get a call for a very rude manager that says my husband was in car whole time.... Not true.... He as in waiting area for 45 minutes..... Would not trust them with a bicycle!! read more

I took my Volvo in to have my a/c fixed. They checked the system and found no issue, charged me $98, and then said I would have to go to the dealership to find out what the problem is. This is the first time I have ever been charged by any mechanic or car care center for no services performed. At the very least a heads up that they can't work on problems with my vehicle would have been nice before I handed my keys over. read more

My daughter and I had a great experience with the service on her car at this AAA shop. She went for an oil change the first time and did not have any suggestions for additional service or parts needed. This second time, the staff said she would need new tires soon and gave us a quote. It did not feel like they were "upselling" since no recommendations were made the first time. We were not pressured to buy from there and left and checked prices elsewhere. We came back because we trusted the staff here and their price was competitive. read more

I took my car in for an inspection and found that at least 2 of the 4 tires failed the inspection. It took over an hour and a half for me to find this out. I didn't do any price checking against competitors, so I can't comment on this AAA's affordability, but they did work with me on getting the appropriate tires for my price range. I was pleased with that. Then, it took another 3.5 hours to get out of the shop with the 4 new tires. So, it took a little over 5 hours total for just the inspection and four new tires, which felt like a lengthy wait. This by itself wouldn't be worth taking off the 5th star, but when I got to my car, the contents of my trunk where totally out of place. The extra tire wasn't covered (since they had to find the tire lock nut under the cover), the cargo net was out of place, and everything essentially looked disheveled. Also, instead of putting the tire lock nut back where they found it, they handed it to me at the counter to put back. I figure after 5 hours they could have spent another 10 minutes to fix things up as they found them. So, I would definitely recommend this place, but my experience wasn't quite 5 stars worthy due to the time required and the little bit of missing professionalism. read more

UNFAIR LABOR CHARGE PRACTICE! I had to take my car in due to alternator failure. I had to have it towed and they were closest. They were very nice when I dropped it off, just after closing. Next morning, after being told the total estimated charge, I had to authorize the repair of course (how else would I get my car back?). I didn't have options to take it somewhere else since it would have to be towed. I thought the labor was EXTREMELY high and they commented it's a big job. I contacted my brother (a mechanic), and two other local mechanics about the labor amount. They said they are charging "book rate", which is what a lot of auto shops do. In my case, a 9 hr. estimate when the job takes usually 3 maybe up to 4 hours. Oh, but they did give me an hour discount since I am a AAA member! Book rates estimate the time it would take to do a job...but why is it padded so much? Because the auto industry writes the book! It benefits the shop owner, not the consumer. So I was overcharged on labor by about 4 hours! That's hundreds of dollars!! I contacted them and they agreed to talk about it and I emailed them after I could not make it in to the shop, to continue to try resolve the matter. They never responded back. So why are we consumers overpaying for auto repairs? I urge consumers to use ONLY auto shops that are fair...pay them for labor hours they actually work! I will find an independent or individual who is honest and charges for hours worked. One star for not turning me away after hours... read more

I've gone here for somewhere around 6-7 years that I can remember. They are nothing but respectful and forthcoming and honest with me. Their work is impeccable. I've had several bad experiences in my lifetime with shoddy, crooked and dirty auto mechanics and I am so relieved to have found AAA Car Care Center. They look so professional and act that way also. I can honestly say I've had a great experience with every employee I've dealt with from the guys who drive me back to work while they work on my car to the mechanic, front desk people, and manager and have never had a bad experience. Rich is awesome. He bends over backwards to help me and work with me with things. I've taken my car there twice where I expected a big bill and left paying nothing. Minor issues that they just fixed for free. Once I had to get a battery, it was guaranteed for 3 years in full and another 3 where they would pro-rate it. Well, it started being hard to start about 1.5 years later and they tested it and boom, I got a free one right away. They do what they promise. Other times I've needed some big work done also and haven't had the full amount and what they do is tell me the most important thing that NEEDS to be done, and other things that can be put off. Just to note, my jeep has over 115,000 miles on it. I feel like these guys will definitely keep me going to well over 200,000 miles with their work. Give this place a try, you'll be happy you did, trust me. I don't review many places unless I either hate the place or absolutely love it. read more

Stopped by this morning to find out how much it would cost to replace my interior bulb for my dashboard. The guy asked me about my mileage and when he found that it was under 60K immediately recommended that I contact the dealership because it could still be under warranty. But he didn't stop there. He asked me if he could take a look. Once he got in my car he turned a knob and the lights came on. He noticed my maintenance light had not been reset and that my tire pressure light was on. He reset the maintenance light then told me to pull around back so one of the guys could check my tire pressure. The gentleman comes out to check my tires and then took time to explain what he was doing and why in the winter I needed to come by once a month to get it checked. Then he told me two of my valve covers were missing so he replaced it. I got all of that at no cost. That is just one of the reasons I will always keep a AAA membership. read more

If it's going to take over an hour just to get to a car, you should recommend coming back another time. This is not the first time we've sat in here for hours. Made an online appointment on Monday for the following Saturday. I noted that I wanted 2 tires of the same type I had purchased there before as well as oil change, alignment and inspection. Showed up at 8am Saturday only to be told they didn't have the tires. I asked why they didn't check the availability of the tires before I bothered coming in since they had almost a week to get them. I was told that "That's not how it works. We don't check for online appointments". My appointment information was in the computer and available long before I walked in the door, but they do nothing to verify they can actually do the work requested. read more

Brought my 09 KIA Sportage to this shop after checking reviews of AAA service center locations. Purchased the vehicle in August 2014 for my move to Durham from New England. The vehicle was due for an oil change, but I wanted an assessment of all fluids. I was called with test results before any service was performed. I was shown the results which were also explained to me. In under 3 hours, the oil was changed, battery replaced, fuel system was serviced and power steering changed. They did not attempt to push additional services. Overall, it was an enjoyable experience with a very cordial and professional staff; the cost very competitive. The vehicle performance is far better than prior to servicing. In the event my vehicle requires service going forward, I will certainly return to this AAA shop. I recommend them highly. read more
