Comic of Carmedix Experience

Negligent or unscrupulous? Like other reviewers, I truly wanted to like Carmedix. The front end workers are friendly and communicative. They sometimes provide images of potential equipment issues, which is a helpful practice. Issues I experienced with this shop: +$738.53 estimate to ONLY fix my horn to pass inspection. The faulty clock spring was about $300 at market rate (found it for $40 online). It took literally less than 30 minutes to replace, so I can only conclude the estimate was for $800/hour in labor cost. +Informed me the clockspring was under warranty (meaning it could be free for repair with the manufacturer) only AFTER I refused service. +Double charged me $82.94 for service done last month and have yet to reimburse. +Inflated estimate for a tie rod replacement. Estimate was substantially less at another shop. +Excessive amount of recommended services upon every visit. Given the multitude of negative experiences, I can only describe this shop as predatory.

Great and quick service. Addressed all issues I had and didn't try and sell me on things I didn't need.

Diagnostic was $200 plus the "damage" that was they charged $1000+ for, which I refused to believe, was a simple maybe $150 repair at most.

I took it back to the shop and they told me it had essentially no coolant in it. I immediately asked the technicians why there was no coolant. They told me, "It was filled up when it was here." When I asked, "Then why is there no coolant in it now?", they couldn't give me an explanation beyond repeating that they had filled it. The car continued losing coolant and overheating. I brought it back multiple times, and I was repeatedly told that they had pressure-tested the cooling system and that there were no pressure issues and everything was fine. They also told me there were no warning lights indicating a problem. Meanwhile, I was constantly having to refill the coolant and pull over when the car overheated. One time I had to sit on the side of the road for about 45 minutes waiting for a friend to bring me coolant just so I could get the car home without overheating it. Eventually the car broke down on the highway and had to be towed. After all those previous visits where I was assured the cooling system was fine, I was finally told that the head gasket had blown and that replacing the engine would cost around $6,000. After I challenged that price, the estimate was suddenly reduced to around $3,000. I'm not upset that a Subaru developed a mechanical problem. I'm upset that I repeatedly reported coolant loss and overheating, and I was repeatedly told the cooling system was fine. The car eventually suffered a major failure anyway. I don't trust this shop and I won't be taking another vehicle there. If you're dealing with a recurring mechanical problem, I strongly recommend getting a second opinion before continuing to rely on their diagnosis

The whole place had such good vibes: everyone I met was pleasant, upbeat, and seemed genuinely happy to be there. I got to meet the owner, Steve, along with my car's new bff Pablo, who went above and beyond during what was scheduled as a simple service visit. He affixed my front license plate, cleaned the inside of my windshield (!), let me tag along on the test drive, and even brought me into the shop to see my car's underside once it was up in the air. How did he know I would absolutely love that? Little things mattered too: the waiting area was comfortable, clean, sunny, and quiet, with a thoughtfully planned garden out front. Rates were refreshingly reasonable--and not one cent over the estimate. It was such an exceptional experience, one that gave me real confidence and peace of mind that my car is in good hands. Three cheers for Wasp Automotive!

A couple days ago I had some issues with my car that would not start. They were kind enough to pick it up and bring to their shop. After careful diagnostics they could not find anything wrong. Both their work and their customer service are wonderful! I am what is known as a " senior citizen" and I so appreciate this kind of service which is not always easy to find in today's world.

The mechanic listened, asked good follow-up questions, made sure he understood the problem before drawing any conclusions, and then diagnosed it cleanly. The part arrived within the window he quoted (2-3 hours), was installed without fuss, and the final bill was reasonable. What stood out as much as the technical work: he flagged a slow coolant leak and a minor oil leak -- this is an older car, so neither was a shock -- but there was no pressure to pile on services. He showed me rough estimates so I'd have them when I'm ready and left the decisions to me. That kind of straightforward, no-upsell approach is rarer than it should be. The waiting area is a genuine plus: free wifi, a table big enough to work at, and a small fridge with complimentary drinks, large TV. My one suggestion would be to add a coffee in the AM. Also, the door to the reception currently reads "B". Might want to avoid any confusion with better signage. That said, I am a big fan of this establishment and will be using them for repairs in the future (apparently sooner than I want :) Bonus: he pointed me to a wonderful Indian place across the street, Biryani, which I'd highly recommend if you have time to kill while your car is being worked on.

Every time I have been impressed with their professionalism and their quality work. When I needed both catalytic converters replaced on my car, I called several auto repair and muffler shops. Most said they wouldn't do the work on my car, and many quoted prices just slightly under what my dealer would charge. I finally called JR and they quoted me a much more reasonable price. I wanted to make sure they fully understood what I needed, as the other places made it seem like replacing the catalytic converters was some daunting task, but they told me it was no big deal and to bring it in. I bought my cats online, and they were happy to replace the parts and only charged me for labor. Afterwards, my check engine light went off, and all was good with my car. I've brought mine and my wife's car to JR's a few other times, and I've always been happy with the work. They are very welcoming, and do not pressure you into doing any unnecessary work. I would recommend JR Auto Repair to anyone who wants great customer service, quality work, and fair prices.
