I really liked this place at first. I was new to Durham & wanted to support a mom n pop auto shop. the last time I came earlier this year, I got my headlight replaced & a tire rotation for the main reasons. I wasn't sure if they actually did rotate my tires, so I called & was told yes, indeed they did. The guy on the phone told me they keep the same tires in front & the same in back. well, I just got another rotation elsewhere, & they told me my tires were terrible & had not been rotated in a WHILE. Very disappointing this company lied to my face & charged me for a service they didn't even provide. Will not be returning, very disappointing. Adding more since I just removed my cabin air filter. I also paid for my filters to be replaced, & judging by these pictures taken TODAY, these were not changed when I came in. I'm in absolute utter disbelief. Wish I could give a negative star review. You guys should be ashamed. read more

The customer service at the front desk has been amazing the times I've been here compared to other mechanics in the area, that's the main reason I came back. I also feel a sense of trust since it's a family owned business. I think my rating would be higher if the turn around time were more transparent and realistic for those who call to schedule service. I would say, take the day off for maintenance type services no matter how simple you may think they are just to be safe. All in all, if you don't mind the wait, they have free Wi-Fi, water and coffee in the lobby. Monica who handles the front was super friendly and professional with everyone she came encountered with. I'm not a car expert, but I like to do my own work as much as I can. I bring my cars to JR Auto if I need work done that is too complicated, or that I'm too lazy to do myself. Every time I have been impressed with their professionalism and their quality work. When I needed both catalytic converters replaced on my car, I called several auto repair and muffler shops. Most said they wouldn't do the work on my car, and many quoted prices just slightly under what my dealer would charge. I finally called JR and they quoted me a much more reasonable price. I wanted to make sure they fully understood what I needed, as the other places made it seem like replacing the catalytic converters was some daunting task, but they told me it was no big deal and to bring it in. I bought my cats online, and they were happy to replace the parts and only charged me for labor. Afterwards, my check engine light went off, and all was good with my car. I've brought mine and my wife's car to JR's a few other times, and I've always been happy with the work. They are very welcoming, and do not pressure you into doing any unnecessary work. I would recommend JR Auto Repair to anyone who wants great customer service, quality work, and fair prices. read more

I had driven to Durham from my home in Raleigh and on the way a warning light popped up on my car about my tires being under inflated. I passed by this shop and pulled in. The owner greeted me professionally and warmly, and despite being quite busy agreed to examine my car. I walked to do a few errands and when I returned they had elevated my car to thoroughly examine the tires. He honestly and intelligently explained that they only needed air and saw no need to charge me. Just asked that I remember their shop and return as needed. I will certainly do that and highly recommend their honest, efficient and friendly service. read more

I got great service at JR Auto Repair. The brake lines failed on my 2000 Silverado and I had my truck towed to a different garage that gave me a very large estimate for replacement of almost my entire break system. I had my truck towed to JR's and I was very happy I did. Their price was much better than the other garage's estimate. They got the work done in a couple of days. So I don't tend to review things a lot, but JR Auto Repair is absolutely wonderful. Took my Kia to the dealership - they wanted to charge me $1600 for new brake pads and a new radiator for a car that's barely worth $3000, AND they said it'd take four days to get the part in! I was facing the idea of buying a brand new car I hadn't budgeted for, but I had a feeling this was a ripoff. I called JR at 10 on a Saturday morning. They said "We can do it for $740, and we can do it right now if you bring it in by 1." I did... and they did. This was two months ago, and I haven't had the slightest problem since. JR saved me, and they did it all with maximum politeness, friendliness, and speed. I can't speak well enough of them! read more

Found out my alternator needed to be replaced last minute before a trip. Thankfully I was able to call and come in immediately on a Saturday. The work was done in an hour. Very thankful for their efficiency. They even had a nice waiting room with beverages and a tv. Would highly recommend for anyone new to Chapel Hill or Durham. read more

Recently I went their to take my car to be worked on and at the time I did not know that 4 of the workers their and the owner himself has the corona virus and they did NOT inform me that anyone has it and they were driving my vehicle I'm very upset that the simple fact they did NOT have a sign up saying corona risk! How I found out is one of the workers there, I don't know his name, but he did inform me later after my car was checked out that everyone was infected!! How can you do that and risk other people and their family and children to get sick! I give this place out of 1-10 a 1!! I did call the health department and they also informed me that the risk there is very high! read more

Stay away!!! This people are scammers!! If I could give a 0 rating, I would!!! I took my car to this shop because I was hearing noises when accelerating. I dropped my car off for inspection only to get a call back an hour later with a breakdown of the work that needs to get done and the price required for it. Apparently they inspected the car and found that my catalytic converter was bad and would require $1800 for parts and labor. I was devastated considering I had just purchased the vehicle 3 months prior. I mean they were basically asking for 1/4th of the price I paid for the vehicle so I decided to not fix it. I later took the car to another mechanic for a second opinion only to find out that the car's spark plug need to be fix. Initially I thought it was a misdiagnosis on JR auto's part but later found out they outright lied to scam me. My catalytic converter is in perfect shape and I had no check engine light which is the number 1 diagnosis for CC failure. please just Stay away!!! read more

They were respectful and not intimidating to me as a woman, checked out my vehicle to see what was making noise and were so honest, they actually said there was nothing wrong, and didn't charge me anything! I got a quote for 300 to replace passenger side front tyrod and left the building for a coffee and later got a call that i also have to replace the wheel bearing. They charged me total of 800. This SUV was estimated by firestone 2 weeke before i drop it at JR for 400 and they never mentioned a wheel bearing issue. So im very disappointed with my first time experience with them. A 300 became 800 expense so be careful leaving your car with them. But i guess even youre on the shop, they can always add issues without you knowing it since youre not standing beside the mechanic. Lesson learned, do not go back to them... read more
